Oct 7th -13th

Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news.
Weather news it has rained off and on most of the past week, see some beans are starting to be harvested, although farmers cannot do much due to the rain. We did not get too much rain here in Morris but not too far west Alberta, Chokio etc. it is very wet.
St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news: confirmation services will be held during joint services on October 29th at 10 a.m. at Kongsvinger
St John’s fall festival is October 14th from 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the church, food, white elephant sale, bake, card sale etc.
Gslc news: Fall VBS is on Wednesday afternoons from 3:45-5 p.m. (except on the 18th) though November 1st
A 3 part adult Ed on Martian Luther starts on October 8th after coffee fellowship
Hurricane disaster fundraiser breakfast raised $1260
Other church news: Glacial Ridge Women of the ELCA Fall Gathering at Faith Lutheran Church, Morris Tuesday, October 24th, Registration begins at 4:30p.m.
Registration fee is $8.00 Light supper at 5:00 p.m.; followed by the meeting—in the Fellowship Hall Program in the Sanctuary at 7:00p.m. The program is Martin Luther as portrayed by Rev. Larry Strenge. This is the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation, Ephesians 2:8 “For it is by God’s grace that you have been saved through Faith.”
In-kind offering gifts go to the Stevens County Food Shelf (canned food goods, toiletry items and cash donations)

Alexandra's miracle mission’s 2nd annual 5/2 K run/walk October 14th starting at 8 a.m. at Pomme de Park’s main shelter near Morris

On October 8th the Someplace Safe pancake fundraiser will be held at Old #1 Southside from 9 a.m.-12:30p.m. Tickets available at the door and the Options for Women Respect Life banquet will be held starting at 4:30 p.m. at Morris Evangelical Free Church. Tickets available at Options for Women in Morris
Alex Winther was born on September 10th to Ryan and Jill Winther of Herman. Grandparents are Paul and Nancy Thompson of Herman and Bob Winther of Herman. Great-grandparents are Glen and Gertie Werk of Donnelly
Bristol Elizabeth Welch was born September 21, 2017, at Stevens Community Medical Center to Mikaela Henrichs of Morris, MN and Michael Welch of Morgan, MN. Bristol weighed 7 lbs. 4 oz. and was 21 1/2 in. long. Grandparents are Larry and Mary Friesen of Donnelly, MN, Brian Henrichs of Donnelly, MN and Bob and Teresa Welch of Morgan, MN. Great-grandparents are Don and Shirley Grossman of Morris, MN, and Judy Friesen of Barnesville, MN.
Death notices: Steve Gibbs for Moorhead passed away on September 23rd local survivors include his grandparents; Dennis and Jan (Anderson) Melchert of Alex. Jan is a former Donnelly resident
Wayne David Rathke passed away September 28th; local survivors include his brother Warren (Deloris) Rathke of Morris & their family. Deloris is a former Donnelly area resident

St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news: On October First the Morris area community church choir will sing at a combined parish 11 A.M. service at St. John's in Donnelly. The choir is composed of singers from at least six area parishes.

Gslc news: Gs members are asked to wear their Freddy’s force to church on October 1st to celebrate the end of chemo treatments for Freddy
Other church news: Faith Lutheran will have an outreach breakfast on October 1st during fellowship hour to raise support for the missionary they support in Africa

The Threshing Bee royalty were part of the Lake Region Threshermen’s Association parades (regular and machinery) in Dalton and Applefest in Appleton recently

Weather news: it was rainy and cool over much of the last wkend, some strong winds did some damage Tue eve in the area and knocked out power to some people in the area

Sept 9th-15th

Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news.
Weather news: some cool mornings are a reminder fall is around the corner although the days have been sunny and mild.

St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news: Regular services start on September 17th with services at Kongsvinger at 8:30 a.m. (coffee fellowship afterwards), parish Sunday school at 9:45 a.m. at Kongsvinger, services at ST. John’s at 11 a.m. (coffee fellowship prior to services). This schedule will continue until next May.

Gslc news: breakfast fundraiser for Hurricane Harvey victims September 24th after services

Other church news: Musician and singer Tony DeBlois is back with a concert on September 17th at 7:00p.m. at the Federated Church-Morris.  This 42-year-old pianist from Randolph, MA is blind, autistic and has Savant Syndrome, and has inspired all who meet him.  There will be a Reception to follow.


           
Community news UMM Reference librarian Peter Bremer will give a presentation titled Hidden Gems: Overlooked Genealogical Resources on the Web today (Saturday) at 11:00 a.m. at Rodney A. Briggs Library in room #350A. Free online tools will be highlighted. Afterwards time will be given for personal family history research. Everyone is welcome.co-sponsored by the Stevens county genealogical society no charge

The firemen will meet on September 18th at 7 p.m. at the fire hall in Donnelly

Carolyn Smith of Donnelly passed away on September 8th local survivors include her son Mark (Pat) of Donnelly and their family
Ray Nohl of Hancock passed away on September 11th local survivors include his wife former Donnelly area resident Tracey Loge and their children
The Donnelly community club had their post bee meeting on September 11th, despite the rain we had very good attendance again this year, discussion was held about the past bee and ideas for future bees. A reminder the 2018 bee is August. 24-26th the tri -feature is Oliver, Cockshutt, and Moline anyone who has any ideas/suggestions for it and/or other community club events please let me ,or somebody with club know about it or come to the next meeting on October 9th

Sept 2nd-8th

Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news.
Weather news: We had some rain off and on all day Friday, and I drove home in rain from Rollag on Monday afternoon until I got Barrett, otherwise been sunny and mild  although cool Wednesday a.m.

St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news: September 10th is “God’s work our hands” day, starting with a brief service at Kongsvinger at 8:30 a.m. followed by a time of work throughout the community return to St. John’s at noon for dinner. Sunday school kids will be packing Lutheran world relief kits that day

Regular services start on September 17th with services at Kongsvinger at 8:30 a.m. (coffee fellowship afterwards parish Sunday school at 9:45 a.m. at Kongsvinger serv9ices St John’s at 11 a.m. (coffee fellowship prior to services). This schedule will continue until next May.

Gslc news: rally Sunday is September 10th breakfast fundraiser for Hurricane Harvey victims September 24th after services

Other church news: the movie A Return to Grace: Luther's Life and Legacy will be shown at the Morris Theater on September 9th at 2 pm no charge

Dedication services for the new Trinity Lutheran church Alberta will be held on September 10th starting with services at 10:30 a.m. followed by a dinner

Faith and first and other elca churches in the area will also be participating in God’s work our hands activities on September 10th. Many of these same churches will have rally Sun. on September 17th

Aug 26th-sept 1st

Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news.
Weather news: after about a week of rain it was nice to see the sun again this week.

St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news: The summer schedule will conclude with services on September 3rd at St. John’s .The parish will be leading the community services at 9 a.m. on August 27th under the big top at the threshing bee. There will be no services at either church that day.

Kongsvinger will be serving meals; St John’s will have their sweet shop, the parish youth the pop shack again this year at the bee

St Charles (Theresia’s)-Herman will again have their hamburger stand at the bee



Other church news: Gladys Mungo, from Haiti’s Children Inc., will be at Good Shepherd on August 27 for services at 9 a.m. plus a pot luck meal afterwards. August 30th will be the last Wednesday evening service at the church
The Feed My Starving Children mobile packing event will be held on August 28th-30th at the Morris area elementary school, more info more contact the Morris Evangelical Free church at 589-2808
 Grief Share will meet every Monday at Morris Evangelical Free Church from 4-6 p.m. for a total of 14 weeks.  For more info, contact Neil Leroux at 589-1788 or the church office at 589-2808.
All are invited to come and sing in a Summer Community Choir! Rehearsals will be at 7:00 p.m. at Assumption Church on: Aug. 27th. The choir will then present a concert open to the public on Monday, August 28 at 7:00 p.m. at Assumption Church.

Retirement party for former Donnelly resident David Fluegel as head of the Southwest Minn. sustainable developmental partnership, will be held on August 31st from 3:30-7 P.M. (program at 5:30 P.M.) at Hotel 200-Moris
The final parade for this year’s Threshing bee royalty was the Cornfest parade in Ortonville on August 20th
The Donnelly Threshing Bee (aka our annual family reunion) will be held today (Saturday.) and tomorrow (Sunday) on the grounds on the south east corner of Donnelly. This year’s feature is all things made by Allis; the theme is “yippee it’s time for the bee”. For more information you can visit the website: http://www.donnellythreshingbee.com and/or the new Facebook page (one with the orange button on it).Anyone who wishes to bring items for display, play, sing, do some demonstrations etc. is welcome to do so. I have my cart on the ground again this year for use by handicapped individuals. If you have any questions and/or concerns stop into the depot and talk to whoever is behind the desk or find one of the officers wearing shirts and caps with a shaft of wheat on them. No dogs bikes/dogs allowed on grounds golf carts must be registered at the depot, tractor  pullers, exhibitors, car show people etc. please enter by the south gate, ph. # on grounds is 246-3272

The 2nd work night for the bee is at 6:30 p.m., on August 29th to take things down and put them away. Reminder any help before and/or after, during, the bee is welcome.
There will be a bike ride, a DJ, and other activities at “A Place to be” during the weekend, contact them for more details

Moose island raiders took first place in 9-f sportsmen club trap shooting league, Jane Harstad, BJ Werk, Ryan Smith, Larry Ascheman, earned 25 straight patches, Ryan Smith 75 straight birds
