Weather news:  After a very hot and muggy weekend it has cooled off some this week. Crops continue to look fantastic, have seen some grain harvesting going on
St. John’s Kongsvinger news: There will be 140th anniversary celebration for Kongsvinger on Sept. 18th
Annual garden (block) party today (Sat.) with serving starting at 4 p.m. on west side of St. John’s free will offering to benefit the Stevens County Food Shelf. Hopefully some of the stuff planted in our community garden will be part of the menu

Community news:  There will be a meet the candidates’ forum for the Threshing Bee royalty contestants on Aug 1st at 7:30 p.m. at the Donnelly Community Hall everyone welcome
Donnelly City Council and Rendsville 4-H will meet on Aug 1st at 7 p.m at the hall and St. John’s Lutheran church
Donnelly Community club will meet on Aug. 8th at 7 p.m at the community hall. This will be our last meeting before the bee which is Aug. 27 and 28th and the feature is John Deere. Buttons will be on sale soon at Donnelly business or may be purchased from community club officers. Death notice Verle Dunn of Donnelly passed away on July 24th  I will miss him, he was a good friend, former  neighbor and land renter, I used to call him frequently to talk about crop progress for this column
Former Donnelly area resident Fern Rasmussen of Bloomington passed away on July 25th survivors include her daughter Renee (Paul Jr.) Ersted of Lowry and their family; her sister Carolyn Smith of Donnelly and her family, Paul Jr. is a former Donnelly resident
Business news Paul’s Paint and Repair is now part of Rupp Body Shop HQ in Elbow Lake
West central wiring and consulting (Walt Biesterfeld) has now merged with Info Link HQ in Morris
There will be an open house bridal shower in honor of Cassidy Hennen, bride to be of Matt Huot  today ( Saturday), from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Pomme de Terre Golf Club, 24860 State Highway 9 Morris. Cassidy is the daughter of Rick and Carrie Hennen of Morris. , Darin and Nancy Huot, of Donnelly are Matt's parents
MHS class of 1961 will have their 55th class reunion of on August 27th at Hotel 200 (old Prairie INN)
Celebrations Wyatt Vavra recently received the Eagle Scout award
The Morris eagles won the Land of Ducks baseball championship team members included Bryce Jergenson
The Morris 2 team won the 18U softball championship on Tuesday.  Brooke Gillespie was the winning pitcher and earned player of the game honors

Weather news:  after some more rains over the weekend it has turned very hot and muggy. The crops I saw today on at the swan lake research farm sure looked fanatic
St. John’s Kongsvinger news: As of July 17th services times have switched with services at St. John’s Sundays at 9 a.m. and WOW at Kongsvinger at 7 p.m.

Community news:  The Threshing Bee buttons are here right now they may be purchased from any of the Community Club officers; they will be on sale at businesses in Donnelly soon. Posters are also here and we will be getting them up in the area in the next few weeks. I will leave some at McCollar’s jewelry if you want one. Reminder the bee is Aug. 27 and 28th and the feature this year is John Deere. On Aug 26th the West Central Cattleman will be serving a hamburger supper along with kid games and tractor Olympics, you must have a button for the supper and cost is $5

Celebrations the pirates are the Morris little league champs this year Brandon Jergenson was the winning pitcher

Thorstein David Larson was born on July 19, at Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris to David and Hannah Larson of Donnelly Grandparents are Corrine Larson and the late Elroy Larson from Donnelly and Rick and Mary Hilton of Woodbury. Great grandparents are Bertha Larson from Donnelly and Reverend Dale and Margie Hilton from Kernersville, North Carolina
The annual VFW Cancer Salad Luncheon will be 11 A.M. - 1 P.M. July 28th at Old #1 South side. Free Will Offering.



The Donnelly Youth Club met July 20th. The children enjoyed the air conditioning except for at the end when they went out into the 92 degree heat and armed with slices of watermelon had a seed spitting competition.

Weather news:  well the crops continue to look good thanks to some abundant rains we have had in the past week. Thankfully we did not have some of the severe weather other parts of the state i.e. Browns Valley did Sat eve.
St John’s/Kongsvinger news: July 17th services time will switch with services at St. John’s Sundays at 9 a.m. and WOW at Kongsvinger at 7 p.m.

There will be a youth club meeting on July 20th at 4 p.m. at ST. John’s

Good Shepherd news: as part of their fundraiser for the stork bus Alexandra’s Miracle Mission has a collection box at GS (and other churches in the area) for Willie’s paper bags
Rob Lucus, the manager of the Morris Pizza Ranch, has graciously given “Friends of Alex” permission to have lemonade and goodies stand every Wednesday from 11a.m.-1 p.m. in front of Pizza Ranch all summer long. So come out and have a drink and goody and all of the money with help Alexandra's Miracle Mission
Mi Mexico is donating 10% of all sales today (Saturday,) plus donations to Options for Women | Morris Stork Bus! A fun and tasty fundraiser to raise funds to benefit our local 6 county community! YUM!

Rockin C Horse ranch will be open today (sat) from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. the ranch is located 8 miles w of Donnelly on 150th St. admission is $5 at the gate
Donnelly fire department meets on July 18th at 7 p.m. at the fire hall

The Samuel and Catherine Smith family reunion is today (Saturday), in the main shelter at Pomme de Terre City Park just East of Morris. Registration, coffee and rolls at 10:30 a.m., potluck at 12:30 p.m. and lots of reminiscing during the afternoon. BBQ sandwiches, coffee, lemonade and utensils provided. Please bring a dish to pass. The Smith's had 12 children... spread this invite to all branches of our family tree. For more information call Marcia at 320-324-7414. Many of the Smiths from the Donnelly area are part of this family
 The Threshing Bee royalty were part of the Prairie pioneer days parade in Morris on July 10th

Kellen Kent Reed was born on July 5, 2016 at Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris to Joshua and Jana Reed of Morris. Grandparents are Bob and Deb Danelz from Donnelly, Minnesota and Curtis and Patricia Reed from Moose Lake, Minnesota.

The Aanerud family participated in the Marv Meyer walk/ run on Sat 5k men’s division Micah placed 16th ;women’s division Savannah finished 2nd ;Heather finished 26th

 The Threshing Bee royalty were part of the Heritage Days parade in Starbuck on July 2nd and also attended the Miss Minnewaska pageant in the park after the parade. They were also part of the 4th of July parade in Hancock on July 4th
Celebrations Eugene Stoneburg was crowned king of the Minnewaska home in Starbuck recently
The Morris Eagles recently won the Green Isle Hamburg amateur bb tournament. Team members include Bryce Jergenson, Tyler Henrichs & Mac Beyer. Bryce was named MVP of the tournament
John Ruff and his daughter Deb Goracke from TX spent some time this week visiting his sister Lou Eystad and family & friends in the area. He informs me he has great granddaughter due later this yr.
