Welcome to another addition of the Donnelly news.
Weather news with the exception of one mild day on Fri the rest of the week has been very cold we got several inches of snow on Wed.
St John’s/Kongsvinger news: Lenten services will again alternate between Kongsvinger (March 4th) and St John’s (March11th) with a soup supper starting at 6 p.m.
On Mar 1st Services will be broadcast on the radio (1230 KMRS) at 11 a.m. 

Good shepherd news: there will be breakfast following the Mar 8th services to raise funds for parking lot improvements. 


Other church news:
ST. John’s Lutheran church of Starbuck will offer Sunday Lenten series, at 10:45 a.m. and broadcast over the Morris station (KMRS) 1230AM at 5:35 p.m., all Sundays during Lent beginning on Feb 22nd.-Mar 22nd
West central Christian homes, Inc. annual meeting will be held on March 15, at 1:30 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Morris, MN
There will be a World day of prayer at assumption church on March 6th at 1:30 p.m. and at several other churches in the area
Community news:  there will be a 25th wedding anniversary celebration for Loren and Kaylene (Kleinhans) Mecklenburg on March 7, from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. at First Baptist Church Morris 
Mar 2nd Bookmobile will be in town by HD and CO at 3:30 p.m., rendsville 4-h and city council will meet at 7 p.m. at St John’s and community hall
The Stevens county genealogical society will meet on March 5th at the West wind village ,room 108 at 1:30 p.m. (end of Atlantic Ave.)

Death notice: former Donnelly area resident Ed Kill of Monticello passed away on
Feb 18th he is survived by his brother Wally (Diane) Kill of the Donnelly area ,he was proceed in death by his parents Herb and Irene Kill
Former Donnelly area resident Evelyn Kopel passed away on Feb 23rd her funeral is today (Sat) at Assumption-Morris
Mille trost of Madison passed away on Feb 23rd survivors include her sister in law former Donnelly resident Marjorie (Trost) Speer
Celebrations: Individual wrestling results sec 6A Keaton Long of the west central area knights was 2nd at #132 and will be going to the state and in Section 3AAA Tiger Jacob Sperr, 4th place at #220
Several area students were named to the Academic High Honor and Honor lists for the fall 2014 semester at Minnesota State University, Mankato including Junior Amber Recker of Donnelly who qualified for the high honor list.
Senior Natalie Johnston has been named to the 2014 fall semester Dean's List at the     University of Minnesota Twin Cities.
Isaac Nienhaus was a member of the Hancock 5th gr boys’ basketball team that won the championship in Wheaton recently


Chandler Erickson umm cougar baseball player of the week
Past week I attended the Backer/Westrom town hall meeting at the Morris library, the Stevens county republican county convention at the legion in Morris, the habit for humanity pancake fundraiser in Hancock, (visiting Wally McCollar and Helen Peterson in their home of rural Hancock afterwards), the 100th open house for Marlys Alm at the West Wind Village (afterwards Wally and I visited Mary Dripps and Marvel Wagner there), and the community meal at Faith Lutheran.
John Ruff and his daughter Deb Gocke from TX spent some time over the weekend attending Marlys birthday party, visiting his sister Lou Eystad, and other friends and family members in the area
 The plans for the 60 yr. reunion for the Morris High school Class of ’55 on Aug 26-28th   are progressing right along. Earlier this week I got a sneak peek at the invitation letter that will be going out in the mail in the near future. An option to stay and attend the Donnelly threshing bee that weekend is also available




In addition to Mecklenburg’s other Donnelly area couples that have or will celebrate significant anniversaries recently are Mark and Karen Janaowscky (35yr) 3/22 ,Steve and Jeanne Halbe (30yrs), 3/30 Robert and Dorothy Eissle (20yr,), 3/18 Vance and Kim Gullickson (20yr) 3/11 Ray and Laura Theilke (20 yrs.) 3/18

Weather news: -0 temps and strong winds meant for a cold week, some light snow too
St John’s/Kongsvinger news: Lenten services will again alternate between St John’s (Feb 25th) and Kong (Mar 4th) with a soup supper starting at 6 p.m.
 
Good shepherd news: there will be breakfast following the Mar 8th services to raise funds for parking lot improvements. 
Rev. Burton Hushagen of Fergus Falls passed away on Feb. 16th He was one of several guest pastors at Gslc during our start -up year. Funeral arrangements for him are pending

The glacial ridge conference assembly of the ELCA that was ppd on Feb 8th has been rescheduled for Feb 22 at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran –Alberta
Habitat for humanity pancake breakfast:  today (Sat) 7 a.m. until 11 a.m. @ Hancock community center. Free will donation

Community news: There will be an open house 100th birthday celebration for Marlys Alm today (Sat) from 2 to 4 p.m. at West Wind Village. Everyone is welcome. No gifts, please.

Death notice: Loretta Asmus of Morris passed away on Feb 14th survivors include her granddaughter in law Nicole (Dohlen) Asmus and her family. Nicole’s grandfather is former Donnelly area resident Clarence Giese. I was among those who attended her visitation at the funeral home on Feb 16th
Celebrations: Keaton Long is a member of the West Central Area Knights wrestling team which won the section 6A wrestling tournament


MACA Tigers Gymnastics Team is the Section 6A Academic Champion and the Class A State Academic Champion GPA of 3.963 using sixteen gymnasts savannah Aanerud was named west central conference player of the week 2/2-2/7 in gymnastics.

Morris FFA: 1st Place Extemp Speaking Savannah Aanerud at the region competition she was also elected a regional officer.
Brook Gillespie is going the state as a member of the Chokio-Alberta business professional of
America chapter, taking 4th in basic office and 2nd in fundamental spreadsheet application
Gabi Nienhaus B honor roll 10-12 gr Hancock H.S.

Past week I attended visitation and funeral for Della Cin and the movie wwjd at Zion Lutheran in Morris
Class of ’55 update Wally is busy putting the finishing touches on the invitation letter hopefully be going in the mail the near future. He is still looking for an Iwatka and some pictures for it.  So far about a dozen classmates have indicated they plan to attend. St John’s/Kongsvinger news: Ash wed services at Kong on Feb 18th At 7 pm.
Good shepherd news: we want to welcome our newest member of the church Rylin Jo Evink daughter of Jason and Julie Evink who was baptized on Feb 1st

St Mary school annual dinner and auction will be held on Feb 14th beginning with social hr. at 5 pm at the old# 1 Southside in Morris
Community news: the Donnelly fire dept. meets on Feb 9th at 7 pm at the fire hall

MAHS AAA award winner (Male) John Huebner; excel winner (female) was Becca Holland
Sons of Norway officers include Jim & Vicky jasper of Donnelly
- The Morris Area High School one act play, The Cove, took first place at the subsection one act competition on  Jan. 31 john huebner is a member of that cast
past week I attended services at the Wwv with deaconess Deb preaching (Thur.) and pr Mike Hanson (sun) afterwards I had a nice visits with Mary Dripps, the boys/ girls double header bb game at MAHS (both teams won) the presentation by Kristian Hawkins of students for life at umm, the Ron Carlson visitation at the funeral home “burgers and a blessing” at the diamond supper club .next week will be the final one until after Easter
