Next edition Sept 25th – Oct 1st.
Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news.
Weather news: Mother Nature has reminded us quite vividly that fall is here with some cool days and nights. Last week’s rains stopped bean harvest over the weekend but dry sunny weather this week has enabled most area farmers to start in again. I talked to my neighbor today when they were combining beans he said they had not a chance to figure out the yields but the moisture level was about 14%

STJ/KONG PARISH NEWS: There will be joint services at Kong on Sept 26th at 11 am with the ss kids singing

The play “Godly Women out of History” will be presented at Kong during KCLW family guest night on Sept 26th at 5:30 PM everyone (including men) is invited. It is an excellent program and I hope many of you will make plans to attend.
Landon Michael Cihak (mike and Jen) was baptized at Kong on Sept 19th.
The confirmation service project for this fall is collecting items for churches united for the Homeless in Moorhead. A list of items needed was included in our church bulletin (food, kitchen items, clothes, office supplies, hsd supplies etc.). You can contact the office for a complete list; it is also posted in narthex of both churches
WAM will not meet in Oct the next meeting will be on Nov 6th at the Minnewaska Home in Starbuck.
LCMC augustana district “Women of the Word” will meet at faith Lutheran in Hutchinson on Oct 2nd at 9 am. Pastor Jaynan Clark will be the speaker. For more info or to register (there is a fee for the luncheon) call 795-2477. There will also be a local wow mtg at faith in Garfield on Oct 9th.

An open house bridal shower for Beth Van Horn, bride to be of Josh Kieffer, will be held from 1-3 p.m. in the Assumption Catholic Church basement.

There will be a benefit for Miranda hauglund from 4-7 PM at the Alberta city hall. There will also be a dance at the Alberta bar and grill starting at 9 PM featuring the Fat daddy’s live band. She has a rare autoimmune disease. Her parents are Jim and JoAnne Hauglund of Donnelly.

The red hatters will meet at Sax’s cafe on Oct 4th at 9 am. Please wear your favorite Halloween mask and bring your favorite candy bar to exchange.

Bev Henrichs of St Louis Park passed away on Sept 15th. Among the family members that survive her are a sister in law Jullete Banister of Donnelly and her family. She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin. Her funeral was held on Sept 21st in St Louis Park

Lucille Scribner of Morris formerly of Donnelly passed away on Sept 18th her funeral was held on Sept 23r at the WWV

Congratulations to Levin strand who recently earned a Boy Scout merit badge in coin collecting and his brother Landon who became an eagle scout on July 24th.

Congratulations to Alex Erickson (Dean and Jeri) on being crowned homecoming king at C-A HS. He was also recently elected sec tres of the Sr class and is the starting qb for the fb team. His brother Chandler was elected VP of the sophomore class.

Agnes Kruize and I were among those who spent some time in Albany over the weekend attending their Pioneer days threshing show. Her son Dennis is a member of the Stearns co Pioneer club and I had an opportunity to visit with him some on Sat. One of the people that I missed at our Threshing bee this yr. was Vern “the one man band”. I had a chance to visit with him some in Albany, he had an accident this summer and burned his fingers so was unable to play for a while, he hopes to return to Donnelly next yr. En route to Albany I stopped at the good Sam home in Hoffman to visit with Thelma Leegard.

The threshing bee royalty were among the participants in the apple fest parade in Appleton on Sept 19th. After the parade it was off to the swift co fairgrounds for a meal put on by the ridge riders trail club. En route home I stopped at the Busse farm to visit with Jim and Julie some. Later I stopped by the location of the good Shepard Lutheran church to see the progress being made in preparation for its re location to it's new home ne of Morris where it arrived on the 23rd. If all goes as planned the congregation hopes to be worshiping in the building by thanksgiving

Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news.
Weather news: the past week has seen several days of rain and some cool nights along with a few mild sunny days especially over the weekend. Some farmers in the area have started bean harvest as well as corn chopping.
STJ/KONG PARISH NEWS: The fall schedule will resume on Sept 19th with services at st j at 8:30 am, ss at 9:45 am at Kong, and services at Kong at 11 am. There will be joint services at Kong on Sept 26th at 11 am with the ss kids singing

With fall here it is also time for church suppers/dinner the, UM and Eden reformed Herman, first Lutheran (Keng), St Paul’s (Lowry), Nora (Keng), faith (Morris), are just some of the area churches who will have one in the upcoming weeks.

The play “Godly Women out of History” will be presented at Kong during KCLW guest night on Sept 26th at 5:30 pm everyone is invited.

The musical group “go fish” will be in concert at the Lake Geneva Christian center (605 Birch Ave) in Alex on Sept 19th at 4:30 pm. No reserve seating and no tickets required. This sponsored by the local Thrivent agents in the area you can call the Morris office at 589-1731 or your local Thrivent agent for more info.

St J fall festival will be held on Oct 9th. They are looking for craft and other items to sell (no clothes) so if you are doing some fall cleaning keep them in mind. You can bring the items to the church at any time for more info contact the church office or call 246-3470
Assumption Catholic Church will have its September fest on Sept 19th beginning with an indoor mass at 10 am and continuing throughout the aft.

An open house diaper shower (diapers and bathroom supplies) for Brynnlee Mae Siegel, daughter of Darrik and Misty Siegel, will be held today (Saturday), at 10 a.m. to noon at the home of Janet and Steve Sauter, 17411 US Hwy 59, Morris


The Morris area boy scouts will be celebrating their centennial on Sun sept 19th from 3-6 pm at the main shelter in Pomme de part. All past and present scouts are welcome.

Khloe Anne Johnson was born on August 28, 2010 at Stevens community Medical Center, Morris, to Jada Siegel and Derek Johnson of Correll. Grandparents are Neil and Janet Siegel of Wheaton and Kevin and Lisa Johnson of Appleton. Great grandparents are John DeLong of Morris, Lorise Siegel of Wheaton, Annette Moen of Appleton, Doris Johnson of Odessa, and the late Hazel DeLong, Loran Siegel, Roger Moen and Clarence Johnson.

Evelyn Ann Ritter was born on September 2, 2010 at Douglas County Hospital, Alexandria, to Adam and Carla Ritter of Donnelly. Grandparents are Charles and Karen Long of Herman, Don and Karen Ritter of Morris, and Wendel and Deb Marotzke of Hancock. Great-grandparents are Adolph and Virginia Long, Opal Harstad, Loretta Ritter and Charles and Margie Mesenbrink, all of Morris.

Com Wyatt Orville Ray Hagen was born on August 17, 2010 at the St. Cloud Hospital to Jeff and Kelsey Hagen of Alexandria. Wyatt Orville. Grandparents are Lynn and Sheila Schulz of Morris, Neil Twetten of Cosmos, Pam and Brian McKenna of Nevis, Dolores Schulz of Parkers Prairie and great-grandparents are Betty Hagen of Hoffman, Shirley Henrichs of Donnelly, Orville and Wanda Thun of Alexandria and Lois Twetten of Gaylord

Kiersten Roy Nell Harrom was born on August 13, 2010 at Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls to Jennifer Harrom and Tony Harrom of Fergus Falls. Grandparents are Nick and Sandy Kill of Morris, Mark Harrom of Wheaton, and Mary Lindner of Fargo, N.D. Great-grandparents are Barb and Don Rilley of Chokio, and Kermit and Karen Stahn of Morris. Great-great grandmother is Marlys Alm of Morris.

Congratulations to the following 4 h er’s who won awards at the general encampment at MN state fair, cammi and Rebekah Aanerud, Brittany cardwell, Sami Searle , and Jacob Sperr. It addition the Rendsville 4-h club won a blue ribbon for its banner

Congratulations to the Morris tiger vb team that finished 2nd in the Stacy Poizin mcintyre vb tournament at umm on sept 11th. Carrie Rouske is a member of that team and Mandi koehntop is a member of the coaching staff


On sept 9th I stopped in to visit my aunt Pearl A. Anderson en route home from Morris

I spent some time in Dalton on Sept 10th attending the LRPTA show and also the big iron show in Fargo on Sept 14th.

Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended the WA mtg at St J in Starbuck on sept 11th. Rev Mike Hanson of Glenwood gave a presentation about the new North American Lutheran church after attending their convention in OH last month. After the meeting I traveled to Starbuck and stopped into the minnewaska Lutheran Home to visit Denny Anderson who is recovering from knee surgery. He hopes to be home in a couple of wks. From there it was off to Morris where I attended part of cougar fest and the Stacy Poizin McIntyre vb tournament. Later I stopped into the prairie inn to visit with some members of the Alberta class of ’51 who were having their reunion there. En route home I stopped in Donnelly to visit with Sam and Dorothy Johrdheim

Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended the rally sun services and dinner at St J on sept 12th during which third grader Garrett Eystad (Marty and Mindy) received his bible and the ss teachers were installed. In the eve we partook in the sing a long at the Eden reformed church in Herman. Afterwards I visited Selma busse at her apt in Herman. In the aft I attended the “Godly Women out of history” play at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus afterwards I had a chance to visit with a former neighbor David Jergenson.

The don community club had a very lengthy meeting on sept 13th in which we discussed some of the problems that occurred during the bee as well as some of the comments, suggestions, and ideas that were received during it, and some of the changes we might make for next year as a result of them. If you have any ideas for future bees and/or other events fill free to contact one of the officers or put something in one of my boxes. Preliminary figures show that we sold about 1500 buttons and finished in the black again. We will feature John Deere next year and are especially looking for old machinery.

The Kopacek family and I were among those who attended the Lu event at the Morris Library on Sept 15th. Author David Keeny gave a very interesting presentation based on his book, "Minnesota goes to war.” En route home I stopped in to visit Jim and Lou Eystad at their home in Donnelly


Several weeks ago Joe Mau of Isanti spent some time visiting his cousin Lou Eystad and other family and friends in the area attending the Donnelly threshing bee and a class reunion in Morris.

Sept 11 Pearl A. Anderson traveled to the Jim and Bonnie Fabian home of rural Herman to help her daughter Bonnie celebrate her birthday.

Thanks to the Kopacek family you will all know who I am now when I am out and about covering various events. I will be wearing a Donnelly reporter hat that they gave me. Mange takk!

Weather news: the cool nights and days we have had in the past week reminds us that summer is ending and fall will be here soon. It started to rain about mid aft Mon and kept on most of the aft and into the eve. I drove home in rain all the way from rollag. The crops looked as good up there as they do down here.

STJ/KONG PARISH NEWS: Sept 12th is rally sun with SS at 9 am and joint services at St J at 10:15 am followed by a potluck dinner. The fall schedule will resume on Sept 19th with services at Kong at 8:30 am ss at 9:45 am and services at St J at 11 am
The Sept newsletter is now out extra copies are available in the narthex of each church
The mission start good Shepherd Lutheran church (MSGLC) in Morris is will celebrate rally sun on Sept 12th with the installation of teachers and presentation of bibles to the third graders.
Many other churches in the area will also have Rally sun services and special activities on Sept 12th.
With fall here it is also time for church suppers/dinner st Charles in Herman (Sept 12th) and the Herman UM (Oct 17th) are just some of the area churches who will have one in the near future.

An open house baby shower for Ellery Rose Spohr, daughter of Crystal Henrichs and Matt Spohr, will be held from 2-5 pm at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Morris. Everyone is welcome including men

There will be a reunion of the Alberta High School class of 195l. It will be held at 5 PM at the Ranch House Inn in Morris. Friends welcome to drop in. This was the last class that included the Donnelly Bunch---Mary (Olsen) Dripps, Suzy (Olsen) Ziemmer, Richard Goldenstein and Duane Ruff (deceased).

Learning unlimited will meet on Sept 15th at 1:00 pm at the Morris public library community room; author David keeny will give a presentation based on his book "MN goes to war”

There will be a Vietnam War era veterans appreciation day at the Old #1 Southside on Sept 12at 2 pm

Congratulations to Steve Engelby who was part of the winning team in the Hoffman fishing league.

Congratulations to following 4-h er’s, who won awards the MN State fair livestock encampment: Jacob and Jenna Moser; Natalie Johnston; Shauna Kill; Mackenzie smith, Kendra Sperr. Natalie and Jake were members of the general livestock judging team that finished 5th overall, second in beef and 5th in sheep. Jenna also received purple ribbon auction scholarship. Congratulations to Laura Thielke who received the Mary Martelle Memorial award at UMM in Apr. Her parents are Delano and Linda Meyer



Steve Fults and I were among the large crowd that attended the metal to money sale near Hoffman on Sept 3rd. Later I stopped into the good Sam home to visit with Thelma Leegard.

A 12 horse hitch on a plow, a ride on the merry go round were along with many interesting displays , exhibits and events that were part of the 56th annual WMSTR that Dennis Kruize and I attended in rollag over the Labor Day weekend. At the Hawley Lutheran church food booth I ran into my classmate Joe Grotjohn who I had not seen since graduation

Jerry and Joan Kopacek recently returned home after a tour bus trip to Holden Village, Washington, in the Northern Cascade Mountains. While there they had an enjoyable time relaxing and hiking. On the way out they took in the Medora ND musical. On their way back they stopped in Yellowstone National Park and were witness to the extremely rare event of Old Faithful and Beehive geysers erupting simultaneously. But the biggest highlight for them was getting to meet for the first time, Jerry's cousin Arlene and husband Ray Poche' from Ravensdale WA, who drove over 2 hours to Wenattchee so they could have supper together.

Sam and Dorothy Johrdheim traveled to Avon on Sept 3rd to visit Jeff and Gayle Gibson and family, en route home they stopped in Alex to visit Odell and Joann Christenson

Pearl A. Anderson spent some time On Sept 5th in Norcross visiting Lauren Lennox and family.

Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news. Please note that while I try to be as accurate as possible in reporting on upcoming events in the area I do occasionally get the date and/or time of an event wrong. So if you are planning on attending an event I have listed it always good to double check the info.
Weather news: my weekly weather report is beginning to sound like a broken record lots of sunshine and mild temps combined with timely rains continues to be very beneficial for the crops. Beans are starting to turn and harvest will probably begin in a couple of weeks. The wheat we thrashed at the bee sure looked good.

The latest edition of Meyer mission news is now out. Copies are posted in the narthex of each church and on my blog. They are raising support for a short term mission trip to Tanzania in early 2011

Due to a schedule conflict there will be no St co Gen soc mtg in Sept the next mtg will be in Oct.

The red hatters will meet on Sept 7th at 9 am at Sax’s cafĂ© in Donnelly note change to day due to the Labor Day holiday.

Please note that time and space do not permit me to list all the org (city council, firemen, 4-h etc.) which have monthly meetings so if you are interested in any of them please contact a member of that org for specific times and dates.

Most Donnelly business will be closed on Mon in observance of Labor Day and the bookmobile will not be in town its next visit is Sept 20th.

An open house baby shower for Ellery Rose Spohr, daughter of Crystal Henrichs and Matt Spohr, will be held Sept 11th from 2-5 pm at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Morris. Everyone is welcome including men

The Donnelly com club will meet at the town hall on Sept 13th at 7pm


Morgan Rose Grossman was born June, 17, 2010 to Trent and Robyn Grossman. Grandparents are Tim and Tammie Grossman of Alexandria, and Dennis and Gail Andrewski of St. Paul. Great grandparents are Marie and the late Clarence Grossman; Bob and Myrna Tomalla, Theodore & (late) June Swanson, Louise and the late Raymond Andrewski.

Ellery Rose Spohr was born on August 14, 2010 at Stevens Community Medical Center, Morris to Crystal Henrichs and Matthew Spohr of Morris. Grandparents are Rollie and Deb Henrichs of Morris and Wayne and Camille Spohr of Hancock. Great grandparents are Ron and Char Castor, and Millie Lesmeister of Morris and Ruth Spohr of Hancock.

Congratulations to the 2010-11 threshing bee royalty Queen Paige Strand, Princes Sara Stallman, Little Miss Donnelly Bailey Armstrong, Little Miss princes Logan Mau.

Congratulations to Herb and Carol Kloos for being named grand marshals of the Donnelly threshing bee parade. He is retiring from his county commissioner job at the end of the yr.

Congratulations to the Chris Athey sb team which won the tri county traveling league team tournament, members of that team were Lucas Schmiesing, Chris Athey, and Paul Daly

Congratulations to Shawn Knutson of Donnelly who took third place in the 2x4 demo derby at the st co fair, brad Hable took third in the 4x4 pickup demolition derby.

Congratulations to Jonathon Olson who was recently sworn into the U.S. army. His parents are Rev Tim and Cyndi Olson of Rockford IL formerly of Donnelly. His dad says he is going to ostu training at fort Knox KY He will be a scout for armored vehicles.

The following were winners at the threshing bee horseshoe glen werk won his class and Father Pete finished third in his class. Donny Sperr, Scott and Brianna Neumann (our former Donnelly princess) won trophies in the tr. pull, Herb Nelson won the traveling parade trophy and he finished third in the pony pull. Athey construction defeated the Donnelly dukes for the sb championship.

Aug 26th I visited Mary Drips at her home in Morris later I enjoyed a root beer float at eul’s they were celebrating their 80th anniversary. En route home I stopped at the threshing bee grounds to look around.

Jon and Jack Kopacek and I were among the many that worked on the grounds on Aug 27th to get everything ready for the bee.

A presentation on country churches by Doug Ohman on sat eve and the parade and the horse/pony pull on sun were some of the many highlights of the 45th annual Donnelly threshing bee that Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended on Aug. 28th & 29th. We had good crowds both days, thanks to everyone who came to help us celebrate

Steve Fults and I were among those who enjoyed the NHAS picnic supper at the Pomme De Terre Park. Later we attended the St Co Rep central committee meeting at Detoy’s. It was decided that we would invite tom emmer, Lee Byberg and others to attend a fall rally/town hall mtg in early Oct.

A good crew was on hand again for the second threshing bee work night on Aug. 31st, thanks to the co-op for letting us use their forklift.
Jeanne Ennen and I were among the members of our parish who helped pack food for the Feed My Starving Children org at the Maes cafeteria. Our shift packed about 130 boxes of food. It is a sobering reminder of how a little time and money can make a huge difference in people’s lives.

Gail, Jenna and Owen Gibson of Avon spent some time over the weekend, visiting family and friends in the area and attending the threshing bee.

Bonnie Fabian of Herman and some members of her family spent some time over the weekend visiting her mother Pearl A. Anderson and other family and friends in the area and participating in some of the threshing bee events.

One of the nice things about the bee is the opportunity to see and visit with some of the former Donnelly area residents who were home for the event such as David Aanerud, Arne Sather, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Gregerson.
