Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news
Weather news: it was cloudy cool and rainy on Monday but otherwise most of the rest of the week  has been sunny and mild; except for snow piles, most of the snow and ice has melted. It was so nice over the weekend that the UMM Cougars actually play a doubleheader of baseball in the cities, unfortunately as I am writing this snow is in the forecast for later this week.
St. John’s Kongsvinger news:  Lenten services start on March 1st at 7 p.m. at Kongsvinger and continue on March 8th at St John’s, with coffee fellowship afterwards and alternating between churches each week

There are still several dates left to sponsor in 2017 for the KMRS radio broadcast. If you would like to sponsor one of these broadcasts in 2017, please contact the Parish Office at 246-3211 and reserve your date
Good Shepherd Lutheran Church news: Lenten services start with Ash Wednesday services on March 1st at 7 p.m. at the church, there will be a fundraising supper (scalloped potatoes and ham) beforehand starting at 5:30 p.m., free will offering for the youth trip this summer
Other church news: a Kingdom ball will be held on  March 4th from 6-8 p.m. sponsored by the Morris Evangelical Free Church at the church call 589 2808 for more info on the event
St Mary’s School –Morris: annual auction and dinner will be held today (Saturday) starting at 4 p.m. at the National Guard Amory in Morris.
The West Central Homes annual meeting is February 26th at the Federated Church Morris at 1 p.m.
There will be a Family movie night at Zion Lutheran-Morris on February 26th at 6:30 p.m. (movie is a “surprise”)

Starting March 1st Burgers, Blessings and Beverages will be on hiatus until after Easter
Community events: the Donnelly city council will meet on March 4th at 4:00 p.m. note new day and time
The Rendsville 4-H will meet on February 6th at 7 p.m. at St John’s Lutheran church -Donnelly
The Donnelly Rod and Gun club is raffling off a fish house; contact any member for a ticket
Draw doubles dart tournament in memory of Steve Larson to benefit American Heart association today (Saturday) at The Place to Be in Donnelly starting at 11 a.m.
The Stevens county genealogical society will not meet in March, first meeting of the year will be in April
There will be a benefit for Freddy Hanson (4 year old son of Pr Mike and Pr Martha Hanson), (grandson of Chuck and Liz Spohr) on March 18th from 4-8 p.m. at Faith Lutheran- Morris. There will be a pulled pork meal (Free will donation). There will also be a kid’s carnival and silent auction. If you would like to help or make a donation you can contact Amy Swanson (287-1867) or sign up at Good Shepherd Lutheran church. He has cancer
Open house for Megan Mecklenburg bride to be of Patrick Uphoff on March 4th 2-4 p.m. at Faith-Morris
Raising Up Stevens County's 2nd annual quarter Kraze will be held at the Old # 1 Southside in Morris March 4th starting at 2 p.m.
Herman Red Hats will meet March 6th at 11 a.m. at the Hunan Spring Restaurant in Fergus Falls
9-F sportsmen club will have their annual meeting on February 27th at 7 p.m. in the back room of the legion at 7:30 p.m., talk to Craig Awsumb at Super Valu for more info.

Gary Carlson of Louisville KY passed away on February 19th survivors include his wife former Donnelly area resident Barbara (Stahn)
Steve and Chandra Schmitz along with their daughter Shaelyn, are the proud parents and sister, of twin girls. Layla Kay, and Olivia Helen, where born February 16. Grandparents are Jim and Julie Busse of Appleton; Great grandparents are Della Dunn of Donnelly and the late Verle and Helen Dunn.

Knight wrestling: Keaton Long was part of the Knights wrestling team that won the section 6A wrestling title and is headed to the state tournament

Perfect attendance awards at Morris Area Elementary School included: Addison Chihak (grade 3) Charli Erdahl (grade 4)
Dona Greiner was recently given an award for outstanding commitment to emergency management by the St. Of Mn. department of public safety division of homeland security and emergency Management
Baily Armstrong was named to the honor roll at west central area H.S.

Weather news:  After a sunny mild day on Sunday it has cooled off some this week.
St. John’s Kongsvinger news:  the Kongsvinger service will be broadcast on KMRS on February 19th at 11 a.m. in memory of Verle Dunn sponsored by his family. It will also be adopted grandparent Sunday during Sunday school.

Dorothy (Frank) Johrdhiem of Donnelly passed away on February 14th her funeral is today (Saturday) at 1 p.m. at St John’s – Donnelly
Robert J. Leuty, of El Cajon, CA passed away on Feb 1st survivors include his niece Karen (Charles) Long of Donnelly /Herman area and other family members in the area
Tiger gymnastics Savannah Aanerud: 10th on Bars with a new personal best of 8.25, 7th on Beam with a new personal best of 9.1, 7th on Floor, 5th in All-Around with a new personal best of 34.7
Brooke Gillisepe was named to the honor roll at Chokio-Alberta H.S.
Knight wrestling: Keaton Long was part of the Knights wrestling team that won the Park Region conference tournament and the Dr. Busian invitational at Morris; where he won the championship  at 152 lbs. He also ranked 6th in the state individually in the latest edition of the Guillotine Magazine rankings
Tiber wrestling: Brady Cardwell part of the team that finished 3rd in Dr. Busian tournament held in Morris he finished 4th at 152 pounds He was also named to the West Central Conference all -conference team
Tiger swimming and diving western regional finals: Levin Strand was part of the 200 medley relay that finished 7th and he finished 7th in the 100 breast. Lee Eystad finished 15th in the 50 free and 100 free and was part of the 400 free relay that finished 11th ;Lee and Levin were part of the 200 free relay that finished 7th

The Donnelly community club had their annual meeting at the community hall in Donnelly on February 13th. Two directors were reelected to the board. It was another good year for the bee and the community club. Next mtg is March 13th at 7 p.m. at the hall. Reminder that this year’s bee is August 26th and 27th and the feature will be Allis Chalmers. Anyone with suggestions or ideas for it or any other community club sponsored activity is encouraged to share it with the club if you did not make it to the mtg but would like to join you can send your dues to the Donnelly Community club ,Donnelly Minn. 56235

Weather news: last week the ground hog predicted we are going to have 6 more weeks of winter this year; it appears his prediction will be true with some of the coldest temps in about a month and some light snow this week.

Good Shepard news: thanks to everyone who participated in the fund raiser for the Ronald McDonald house on January 29th we raised about $2500 for it

Eldren Lichtsinn of Wheaton passed away on February 1st survivors include his granddaughter Kelly (Corey) VanHorn of Morris, Corey is a former Donnelly area resident
Celebrations: JoLette Faye Searle was born on January 22 at Stevens Community Medical Center to Marilyn and Josh Searle of Morris.  JoLette weighed 7 lbs. 9 oz and was 19 1/2 inches long.  Grandparents are Jan and Lowell Searle of Donnelly and Ace and Lois Sperr of Morris.  Great-grandparents are Agnes Searle, Laverna Lesmeister, and Bertie Sperr from Morris.

There will be an open house bridal shower for Megan Mecklenburg, bride-to-be of Patrick Uphoff today (Saturday) from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Morris, with a program starting at 10. The couple is registered at Menards, Target, and B Inspired.
Donnelly area youth club meets on February 15th from 4-6 p.m. at St. John’s
Death notices:  Betty Hoyer of Morris passed away on January 19th survivors include her daughter former Donnelly area resident Fran Cin
Chester Larson of Donnelly passed away on January 30th survivors include his wife Gloria, daughters Jane, Cindy, and son Chuck and their families. Many of you will remember him as being part of the Kongsvinger quartet, and custodian at Kongsvinger for more years, then most of us can remember his funeral services are private.
Former Donnelly area resident Marlyn Hagen of Calif. passed away last wk. survivors include his nephews Lyle and Lowell Dunn of Herman/Donnelly area and niece Julie Dunn Busse of Holloway and their families. Funeral arrangements are pending
Marrida A. Bjerke Myron of Elbow Lake passed away on January 27th according to the obit she was teacher and principal in Donnelly in 1954 according to Eliane Overson Stork
Celebrations: Tiger wrestling: West Central Conference tournament: Tigers (5th) Brady Cardwell runner up 152 lbs. (all conference) 160 Dakota Lucas 5th 160 lbs.

On January 29th I stopped into the Sunrise Apartments to wish my aunt Pearl A. Anderson a belated 91st birthday. Her birthday was January 27th. She says thank you to everyone who sent her a birthday card
