Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news

Weather news: although it is officially fall it has felt more like summer this week with some very nice temps.  Bean harvest is in full swing



St John’s/Kongsvinger news: there will be a special congregational meeting following services at both St. John’s (about noon) and Kongsvinger (about 9:30 a.m.) on Oct 4th for the purpose of issuing a call to a new pastor.

Good shepherd news: You are invited to a tea party today (Sat.) at 2 pm at the church. The Speaker is Pam Behan who will tell her story as a nanny for the Kardashians. Rsvp to Joan Bruer at 585-2569

Other church news:: On September 27 Pastor Dean Mandla Ndwande, the Dean of the Eshowe Circuit of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Southern Africa will be at the 8:30 am services at Faith Lutheran Morris and at 10:30 am at First Lutheran Morris. There will also be a meet and greet for him today (Sat) at first Lutheran at 7 pm and an adult forum on the 27th at faith about 9:45 a.m.



Community news: Open house bridal shower in honor of Rachel Sperr, bride to be of Andrew Chalmers, will be held today (sat.) from 9:30 - 11:30 at Morris Evangelical Free Church.  Options for women respect life banquet on Oct. 4th at the Morris evangelical Free Church on Oct 4th starting with seating and silent auction at 4:30 pm dinner starts at 5:30 pm. The speaker will be Kim Padan.

The Stevens county genealogical society will meet on Oct. 1st at 1:30 pm at library in Morris

The city council and rendsville 4-h will meet on Oct. 5th at 7 pm at St. John’s church  and the community hall in Donnelly

Death notices: former Donnelly area resident Jeanette Mickelson of Cyrus passed away on Sept. 18th local survivors include her sister Lou (Eddie) Kopel of Donnelly

Former Donnelly area resident Paul Bjorlin of Cottage Grove passed away on Sept 19th local survivors include his brother Cliff and sister Carolyn Smith of Donnelly, and  Fern Haley Rasmussen of Morris and their families.

Celebrations Girls Tiger CC –little Croix meet Savannah Aanerud finished 4th

Rebekah Aanerud of the Morris Area FFA was selected as a national finalist for the National FFA Proficiency Award, in Agricultural Communications – Entrepreneurship/Placement. Aanerud is one of only four people chosen to compete for this award at the national finals held Oct. 28 to 31 during the 88th National FFA Convention and Expo in Louisville, Kentucky.



An open house honoring Carol Sperr's 80th birthday will be given by her family on Saturday, Oct. 3, from 1 to 4 p.m. at West Pomme Lodge. No gifts please.

There will be a bridal shower for Brandon Koehentop and Andrea Singleton at Faith Lutheran –Morris today (Sat.) from 10 am. 12 p.m.

The threshing bee royalty were part of the parade in Appleton on Sept. 20th
I was asked for results from the car show at the bee I hope to have the results next week

Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news
Weather news: it has been a very pleasant week sunny and mild.  Corn is being cut for silage and some farmers are starting to harvest beans.
St John’s/Kongsvinger news: The regular worship schedule will resume on Sept 20th with services at Kongsvinger at 8:30 am followed by S.S. at 9:45 am and services at St John’s at 11 a.m.

Bruce and Deb Koehntop of Morris, formerly of the Donnelly area along with Tim Singleton of Savage and Jan Johnson of Jordan are excited to announce the engagement of their children Brandon Koehntop and Andrea Singleton. There will be a bridal shower for them at Faith Lutheran –Morris on Sept. 26th from 10 am. 12 p.m.
The threshing bee royalty were part of the parade in Dalton on Sept 12th; I spent the day at the Dalton threshing bee.
The Donnelly community club had a lengthy post bee meeting on Sept. 14th. We had one of the most successful bees we have had in a long time in terms of attendance, participation, exhibits, button sales etc. The next community club meeting is Oct 12th, next year’s bee will be held on Aug. 28 & 29 and the feature will be John Deere. I also learned Mon evening that there is more than one Donnelly threshing fb page the “official” one has a button on it. I do not know who started the other one(s), or why

Sept 13th Mark Koepke & I traveled to Nora Lutheran church, near Garnder ND, for their lutefisk dinner. Plans to visit with his uncle and aunt afterwards got cancelled due to illness

Next edition: Sept. 12th -18th

Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news
Weather news: since I was in Rollag all weekend I do not know what the weather was like here understand it was very hot over the weekend then cooled off after we got some rain. It was very nice in Rollag mild temps, some light rain showers, and about an inch of rain on Sat eve.
St John’s/Kongsvinger news: Sept. 13th the parish will have a “Gods Work Our Hands” work day. If you are an older adult who needs cleanup of some type, window washing, weed removal, cleaning gutters, mowing etc. or wish to help please contact the parish office at 246-3211. Anyone in the community is eligible for the services. Activities start at St. John’s at 8:30 a.m. with a short service, followed by work and concluding with a dinner at Kong at 11 a.m.
The regular worship schedule will resume on Sept. 20th with services at Kongsvinger at 8:30 a. m followed by S.S. at 9:45 a. m and services at St John’s at 11 a.m.
New this year is a youth club meeting on the 3rd Wed of the month (starting on Sept. 16th). This will be similar to vbs contact the church office for more info.
Good shepherd news: root beer and orange floats will be served after church on Sept. 13th for Rally Sunday.

The city council, Donnelly community club, and fireman will all meet on Sept. 14th at 7 p.m. at various places in Donnelly.

I spent 4 days in Rollag Mn over the weekend attend their threshing show, very enjoyable time

Weather news: we had fantastic weather over the weekend mild temps and nice breeze ideal for the bee, supposed to be hot and humid rest of this week. Crops continue to look good; the grain we thrashed at the bee looked very good.
St John’s/Kongsvinger news: There will be joint services at 9 a.m. on Sept. 6th at St John’s.

Marvel Koehntop of Starbuck passed away on Aug. 25th survivors include her nephews former Donnelly area residents Maynard and Darrel Koehntop of Morris and their families
Former Donnelly area resident David H. (Smith) Danzeisen, of Herman, passed away on Aug 29th
I spent some time last week attending some of the class of ’55 60th class reunion events at Hotel 200 in Morris. I was asked to represent my mom who taught some of the students in Donnelly. Darrell Koehntop was given an award as the only one still involved in the family business (farming).
Tate Brian Harstad and Alexis Hubbard were married on July 31st in Alexandria VA.   Tate is the son of Wendy Harstad and Steve Hanson of Rockford Minn.; and Brian and Kelly Harstad of Delano MN, grandparents are Norma DeLong of Herman and George and Elaine Harstad of the Herman/Donnelly area
Don and Tamela Sperr of Morris along with Jim and Laurie Chalmers of Shoreview are happy to announce the engagement of their children, Rachel Sperr and Andrew Chalmers. Her local grandparents are Paul and Betty Sperr from Donnelly
Some of the grand champions at the Morris fair in the open class and homemakers’ buildings include Eliane Harstad, Barb Simpson, Bernice Erdahl, Rose Uhden, Peggy Horning, and Shirley Libbon. For 4-h results see the supplement to the Aug. 29th paper too many to list here
Zachary Alan Blume was born on July 16, in Fergus Falls to Kevin and Ronda Blume of Herman. His grandparents are Ron and Sherry Volker and Neil and Pat Blume, all of Herman. His great grandparents are Doris Sperr of Herman and Lenora Volker of Barrett and Mavis Blume of Barrett.
Raelyn Vera Smith was born on August 14, to Demi Roiland and Cody Smith of Appleton. Grandparents are Tony and Heidi Roiland of Morris, Pat and Amy O’Malley of Buffalo and Doreen Hanson of Donnelly. Great-grandparents are Pete Roiland and Tabor and Kathy Hoppe all of Appleton.
MACA cc team placed 3rd in its own invitational Savannah Aanerud finished 9th

Congratulations to our new threshing bee royalty Queen - Cheyenne Baumgart; Princess - Savannah Aanerud; Little Miss Donnelly - Amaya Raths; Little Miss Princess - Tabitha VanHorn ;also to our grand marshal in the parade Bertha Larson
For the 8th year I helped with the feed my starving children packing event at the Morris area Elementary school a sobering reminder of how a little time, work and money can go a long ways in feeding hungry children
Another successful threshing bee is history hope to see everybody on Aug. 27-28th 2016
Note for personal reasons I plan on sending my Sept 19th column in early (Sept 15th) so keep that in mind if you have news for me.
Extra past wk. helped with set up, and take down on the bee grounds, was in threshing bee parade, attended Morris co-op plot tour, bbb at old # 1, & helped with naps distribution


We had a great threshing bee this year nice to see so many old & new friends on the grounds
