DONNELLY NEWS

Next edition Aug. 27th-sept 2nd
Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news.
Weather news: crops continue to make good progress due to some sunny and warm days and some timely rains showers. I have heard that the grain harvest has not been very good.
STJ/KONG PARISH News: the parish will be leading the community worship services under the big top tent at the threshing bee grounds on Aug 28th at 9 am with Tom and Pearl Horning providing the music. There will be joint services at ST J at 8:30 am on Sept 4th
GSLC news: The coffee money during Aug will go to the Feed My Starving Children packing event. GS will be packing meals on Aug 30th at 1:30 pm
Gs will be having a rummage sale on Sept 9th (5-8 pm) and 10th (8-11 am) at the old prairie trailer building on HY 28 w to sell items from the old gs church, anyone who wishes to bring items for it can bring them out there on the eve of the 8th from 6-7 pm.
The fmsc packing event will be in Morris again on Aug 30,31st and Sept 1st .If you or your org would like to help out contact the Morris E Free Church at 589-2808 or e-mail:office@mefc.net, there will be a fundraiser at the pizza ranch on Aug. 29th all day.
A work night is planned for Aug 30th at 6:30 pm on the threshing bee grounds, to take the fences down and put things away. I can also use help on the evening of the 28th to take the chairs in the tent and put them back in the depot. Any help by anybody, during, and/or after the bee is greatly appreciated.
The theme of the threshing bee this weekend is “Donnelly a great place to call home”, today’s events start with a pancake breakfast at 7 am and concludes with a free dance at the hall featuring Pure County at 8 pm. Sun begins with an open air worship service under the big top tent and concludes with the horse/ pony pull in the aft. There will be lots of other activities both days, The feature this year is John Deere and our special guest will be Don Duffner displaying his three in one tractor. He will also be demonstrating it. Next year’s feature will be Oliver. I do plan to have my cart on the grounds again for use by handicapped people, remember if anybody is going to use a vehicle such as a golf cart on the grounds you must register it at the depot. No bikes and dogs (except for service dogs) on the grounds please use the south gate for bringing items (trs cars machinery etc.) into the grounds. The headquarters is the depot so if you want more info, need help, or have any questions stop in and talk to whoever is at the desk. The phone # there is 246-3272. Again this year the officers will be wearing shirts and caps with Donnelly threshing bee on them, the website is http://www.donnellythreshingbee.com and there is also a Facebook page.
There are also some rummage sales in town this weekend and there may be other off site events as well.
There will be a bridal shower for Kayla Harstad bride to be of Josh Erdahl at first Lutheran in Morris today (sat) at 9:30 am.
Due to the Labor Day holiday WAM will meet on sept 10th at the Minnewaska Lutheran home.
Liviah Rhys Volker was born on June 21st to Travis and Brittany Volker grandparents are Bill and Darlene Volker
Congratulations to the Jenna Larsen/Islande Sperr duo that won the Dribble/PingPong Competition at the owl dribbling camp held recently at the pe center.
Congratulations to Natalie Johnston who was named 2nd runner up in the MN pork ambassador contest in redwood falls recently.
Winners in the homemaker’s building at the st co fair included Bernice Erdahl, Elaine Harstad and Rose Uhden. Winners In the open class building were Steve and Michelle Werk, Michelle Papesh, and Beth Heinrich. The stampede club and Rendsville 4-h club both won several grand and reserve championships on several of their club projects. Individual 4-h awards are again too numerous to list, the winners will be published in a special supplement in the s-t on ----
Congratulations to Tyler Busse who won 1st place in his class in the demo derbies at the Pope and Stevens co fairs.
Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended VBS at GS on Aug 17th; we also attended the Morris co-op customer appreciation picnic at Pomme De Terre Park on Aug. 18th. They also helped get the Christus House ready for fall that day. Earlier in the day I boarded a bus at the soils lab for a tour of their swan lake research farm. After dinner I boarded another bus for a trip to the Prairie Horizons farm south of Starbuck. I finished the day at the valu ford carnival at the armory in Morris where I had a chance to say “hi” to former Donnelly area resident Gary Huebner
Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended services at gs on Aug 21st later the threshing bee royalty were part of the cornfest parade in Ortonville. When I arrived home I discovered somebody had cut the lock on my front door and stolen some computers and accessories.
Dianne Amundson and I attended the Pederson funeral home’s time to remember picnic at the Pomme de Terre Park on Aug 22nd. Afterwards I visited my cousin Bev Hurlbult at Legacy Living.
It was a case of “many hands make light work” on Aug. 23rd as a good crew was on hand to help get things ready for the bee. Special thanks to the don co-op for the use of their forklift and to Corrine Larson for again supplying the drinks and food.

GSLC news: Aug 21st is new member Sun, women’s bible study continues on Wed a.m. and VBS will conclude on the 24th at 5:30 pm. at the church. The coffee money during Aug will go to the Feed My Starving Children packing event.

Queen candidates this year are Rebekah Aanerud her parents are Andy and Heather, grandparents are Jim and Lorraine, Olivia Reimers her parents are Al and Shelly. Little Miss Donnelly candidates are Kamern Sperr, her parents are Duane and Lori, grandparents are Paul and Betty, Callista Kill her parents are Jim and Julie, grandfather is Dick Cady, Kellie Wilts her parents are Doug and Ellen, grandparents are Millie and the late LaVern, Kendra Wevely her parents are Matthew and Alisha Gramith, grandparents are Ron and Sue Wevely, great grandmother is Liz Ascheman.
There will be a post nuptial bridal shower for LeAnn Van Horn and Ben Honzay today (sat) from 9-11 a.m. at Kong they were married on Aug 6th. There will also be a bridal shower for Kayla Harstad bride to be of Josh Erdahl at first Lutheran in Morris on Aug. 27th at 9:30 am.

Pederson funeral home will hold their annual time to remember picnic at Pomme de Terre Park on Aug. 22nd at 5:30 pm

Jack Fuchs and I were among those who helped do some clean- up work at GS on Aug 9th
Verle and Della Dunn and I were among those who attended the memorial service for Fran Pederson at Bethel in Herman on Aug. 10th and the funeral for Darlene Awsumb at Assumption Catholic Church in Morris on Aug 13th. Fran’s family has owned and operated Pederson imp in Herman for many years, at lunch I had an opportunity to visit with Dick Goldenstein. After the funeral I visited with Selma Bruse in her apt Herman. In the aft I stopped by the fairgrounds in Morris for a look around then attended vbs at gs in the eve.

On Aug. 11th about a dozen of us got together to pick up the bundles from the field by the threshing bee grounds and put them on racks. We had more bundles than racks so there will be a lot of threshing going on during the bee.

On Aug 12th I visited with my aunt Pearl at the sunrise apts in Morris.
Steve Fults and I spent some time over the weekend at st co fair in Morris. I will list some of the winners from the homemakers and open class in a future column, as usual the number of awards that the Donnelly area kids won is too numerous to list individually so look for a special supplement to the s-t with a list of 4-h winners on Aug –.

The last parade of the year for the threshing bee royalty was on Aug. 14th in Hoffman. As always they did a good job representing Donnelly in many parades and events this year. After the parade I visited some friends in the good Sam home in Hoffman

DONNELLY NEWS

Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news.
Weather news: After weeks of hot humid weather and a lot of thunderstorms the weather has settled down some with some cooler temps and just a few shots of rain and things are starting to dry out a little. Crops continue to look good I have seen a few fields of wheat being harvested in the area. The garden produce on display in Glenwood looked much better than it did it Herman.

The theme of this year’s threshing bee on Aug 27th and 28th is “Donnelly a great place to call home” This week I will highlight Sat activities next week sun. The day begins with a pancake breakfast, continues with a sb tournament, kiddie parade, kids tr. pull, antique tr. Pull, bike safety rodeo, coronation and dance at the hall. A new event this year on Sat will be a twelve horse hitch on Sat aft about 1 pm. In the morning various teams will be plowing and harrowing. As always anyone is welcome to bring a display, demonstrate, play, sing etc. there will be lots of activities both days, horseshoe tournament, chain saw carving, flea market etc. The area churches will once again be serving food. There are two upcoming showers at Kong: On Aug. 14th there will be a bridal shower for Andrea Bergstrom bride to be of Joha Toma from 2-4 pm. On Aug 20th there will be a post nuptial bridal shower for LeAnn van Horn and Ben Honzay from 9-11 am.
Lee R. "Dick” Kloos, of Hopkins, formerly of Donnelly passed away on Aug 2. He is survived by his wife, 8 children, and 8 grandchildren. His Dad ran the lumberyard in Donnelly and lived where Shirley Frank now lives. Dick Goldenstein says his folks bought the lumber from his Dad to build their house. I have posted his obit on my blog.
Former Donnelly area resident Darlene Awsumb passed away on Aug. 8th. Her funeral is today (Sat) at 10 am at Assumption Catholic church in Morris
Former Donnelly area resident Mavis J. Gulbrandson, of Hoffman, passed away on Aug. 7th.

Chase Dylan Jensen was born on July 25, at Stevens Community Medical Center, Morris, to Christeena Jensen and Wayne Higgins of Herman. Grandparents are Theresa Pagel of Morris, Michael Higgins and Cheryl Beebe of Donnelly, and Scott Jensen of Lincoln, Neb.

Jim and Lou Eystad and I were among those who attended Willie’s parking lot party at Eastside Park on Aug. 4th. I then traveled to Glenwood to attend the Pope co fair where I watched part of the horse pull there and listened to Pure Country the band that will be playing at our threshing bee dance again this year.
Richard and Val Olson and I were among those attending some the Flekkefest activities in Elbow Lake on Aug 5th. While there I had an opportunity to say “hi” to former Donnelly area residents Diane Amundson and Rosie Sax. In the eve Vance and Kim Gullickson and I were among those that attended the SAL sweet corn feed in Morris.
Tim and Deb Root were among the workers and their families of Superior Industries and Wesmor that attended the co picnic at East Side Park on Aug 5th. The #99 Aflac NASCAR car which was on display generated a lot of interest
Andy Brevig and I attended the all committee meeting at St J on Aug. 6th and the community block party and chicken supper in the aft. In the eve the threshing bee royalty were part of the Flekkefest parade in E.L.
Geo and Arlys Pederson and I were among those who attended the sister city program in Elbow Lake on Aug. 7th
Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended the meet the threshing bee royalty candidate’s event at the town hall on Aug. 8th. Afterwards the community club had their monthly meeting as we finalized plans for the bee. After the meeting I visited Denny Anderson at his house.
Bob and Dorothy Eisel recently returned home from a trip to Wasilla AK where they visited with their family members that live there.

Kloos, Lee R. "Dick" Age 82, of Hopkins, died Aug 2. Retired Minnegasco employee and U.S. Marine from 1951-1953. Survived by wife of 58 years, Gerry; children Julie (Matt) Thompson, Lee, Trudy, Mary (Ron) Gould, Tom (Mary), Bob (Giovanna), Kathy (Brian) Miller, Joe and Chuck (Jennie); grandchildren, Bud, Abby, Carrie, Molly, Erin, Bridget, Will and Daniel. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to N. C. Little Hospice. Private interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Funeral Mass 11:00 AM Saturday, Aug. 6th at Church of St. Joseph, 1310 Mainstreet, Hopkins. Visitation one hour prior to Mass at church, and also Friday, Aug 5th from 5-8 Pm at : Washburn-McReavy Strobeck Johnson Chapel, 1400 Mainstreet, Hopkins. 952-938-9020.

DONNELLY NEWS

Next edition Aug. 6th-12th
Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news.
Weather news: The weather during this past week has been about the same as it has been for some time sunny and hot during the day with some thunderstorms rumbling through the area at night. There is a lot of standing water due to all the rain we have had, there was some hail here on Sat afternoon but thankfully we escaped the damage some areas had this week. The crops that have not been drowned out continue to look good.
STJ/KONG PARISH News: the parish is coordinating a block party featuring a bike ride, food and music between St J and the Donnelly Hall today (Sat) to benefit the st co food shelf. The day will start with a bike ride from the “place to be” at 1:30 pm call 246-3221 for info about this event. Serving will start at 5 pm and continue until 7:30 pm or until the food is gone. On the menu is chicken, potato salad, baked beans and chips. The LL will be selling pop and water and the 4-h will be serving ice cream treats. There will be a DJ at “the place to be” beginning at 8 p.m... Everyone is welcome to come and join the festivities. There will be a free will offering for the meal. “Meet the Candidates" for the Donnelly Threshing Bee Royalty is August 8th at 7:30 pm, at the Donnelly Hall.

This year’s threshing bee is Aug 27th and 28th. There will be a couple of new events this year including a 12 horse hitch on Sat aft. Most of the other events will stay the same. The feature this year is John Deere so if you have any tractors and/or machinery be sure to bring them to the show. There will also be a special display in the feature area this year, Don Duffner’s triple tractor (830’s jd diesels) Next year’s feature will be Oliver. Ruth Moerke passed away on July 28th , Jim and Lou Eystad and I were among those who attended her funeral at St J on Aug 3rd afterwards I had a chance to visit with Pr. Luther and his family who were up for the funeral. Ruth’s daughter Carol asked to me announce that some of the flowers they had on her Dad’s grave at Vinger are missing if anybody knows anything about them let me know and I will pass the info along to her. In aft Andy Brevig and I were among those who attended the NHAS customer appreciation supper at Niemakel lake park, in the eve Ellen Wilts and her girls and I attended the VBS program at GSLC.

Congratulations to the Morris VFW team that recently won the dist. championship, Bryce Jergenson and Chandler Erickson are members of that team.
Mr. and Mrs. Byron Gilbertson and I attended “hort night” at the wcroc on July 28th
Marge Kleinhans and I were among those who watched the Irondale band’s performance at ‘big cat” stadium in Morris on July 29th
Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended the baptism service for Brady Woodke at GSLC on July 31st In the aft I traveled to Glenwood where the Threshing Bee royalty were participants in the Waterama Parade. Logan and Baily represented Donnelly at the Miss Morris/Miss Midwest pageant in Morris on July 23rd.
Opal and Vedar Harstad and I were among those who attended the visitation for Rachel Martian at the Pedersen funeral home in Morris on Aug 1st. Joan Kopacek was part of the VFW AUX honor guard for past president Rachel Martin
