.

The theme of this year’s threshing bee on Aug 27th and 28th is “Donnelly a great place to call home” This week I will highlight Sundays activities .The day begins with an open air church services continue with a classic car show, parade, horse/pony pull and conclude with the cash drawing. As always anyone is welcome to bring a display, demonstrate, play, sing etc. There will be lots of activities both days, horseshoe tournament, chain saw carving, wood sawing shingle making, flea market etc. The area churches will once again be serving food. The feature this year is John Deere and our special guest will be Don Duffner displaying his three in one tractor. I do plan to have my cart on the grounds again for use by handicapped people, remember if anybody is going to use a vehicle such as a golf cart on the grounds you must register it at the depot. Also remember no dogs except for service dogs are allowed on the grounds. For more info call 320-795-2437 or e-mail donnellythreshingbee@runestone.net. There is also a website: http://www.donnellythreshingbee.com with more info on it. Please note that this is an independent website and is not associated with the Donnelly Community Club. There is also a Donnelly threshing bee page on Facebook.

Winners from the donnelly area at the Vfw Cancer Salad drawing were Joanne Graff, Deanna Heuer, Pat (Gary) Smith, Shirley Kill, Rose Uhden, Veronica Smith , John DeLong and Deanna Recker

Jack Fuchs and I were among those who helped do some clean- up work at GS on Aug 9th
Verle and Della Dunn and I were among those who attended the memorial service for Fran Pederson at Bethel in Herman on Aug. 10th and the funeral for Darlene Awsumb at Assumption Catholic Church in Morris on Aug 13th. Fran’s family has owned and operated Pederson imp in Herman for many years, at lunch I had an opportunity to visit with Dick Goldenstein. After the funeral I visited with Selma Bruse in her apt Herman. In the aft I stopped by the fairgrounds in Morris for a look around then attended vbs at gs in the eve.

On Aug. 11th about a dozen of us got together to pick up the bundles from the field by the threshing bee grounds and put them on racks. We had more bundles than racks so there will be a lot of threshing going on during the bee.

On Aug 12th I visited with my aunt Pearl at the sunrise apts in Morris.
Steve Fults and I spent some time over the weekend at st co fair in Morris. I will list some of the winners from the homemakers and open class in a future column, as usual the number of awards that the Donnelly area kids won is too numerous to list individually so look for a special supplement to the s-t with a list of 4-h winners on Aug –.

The last parade of the year for the threshing bee royalty was on Aug. 14th in Hoffman. As always they did a good job representing Donnelly in many parades and events this year. After the parade I visited some friends in the good Sam home in Hoffman
