donnelly news


Next edition June 30th-July 6th

Welcome to another edition of the of the Donnelly news.

Weather news: most of the days have been sunny and mild during the past week.  If corn being knee high by the 4th is a sign of a good crop this year’s will be a great year as it is already that and more.  The only field work I have seen was somebody putting up some hay for silage although there is lot of hay down in ditches

STJ/KONG News: Service times will switch on July 1st St J at 8:30 am, Kong at 10:15 am. The fall schedule will resume in Sept. there will be joint services at St J on July 8th

There will be a 4th of July celebration at Kong beginning with a flag- raising at 11 am; followed by a pot luck dinner (ice cream, bread and beverages provided) come and reflect on the day.

GSLC news: a reminder that services at the church are at 9:00 am every Sun with coffee fellowship afterwards and adult Ed at 10:30

The following events are taking place today (Sat):

A memorial service for Esther Pasche will be at 11 a.m. at ST Paul’s Lutheran church in Morris,

there will be an open house baby shower for Charles and Amanda (Greiner) Moser from 2-4 pm at ST J, her parents are Greg and Dona Greiner, step grandparents are Rollie and Jan Greiner, they are expecting twins;

There will also be an open house bridal shower for Corin Zapf bride to be of Tyler Ascheman at the Kong parish hall on from 1-3 pm. His parents are Larry and Peggy Ascheman; step grandmother is Liz Ascheman.

There will be a 100th birthday party for Folkert Bruns at the place to be in Donnelly from 2-4 pm

The city council and rendsville 4-h will meet on July 2nd at 7 pm at the fire hall and Donnelly hall

NAPS distribution will be on July 2nd at the Morris sr center.

The red hatters will meet at 1 pm at the place to be on July 2nd an additional meeting will be held on July 20th at the 4-h food stand in Herman at 11 am

The po and most Donnelly business will be closed on July 4th

The community club will meet on July 8th at 7 pm at the Donnelly hall

July 12th will be the final game of ladies sb in Donnelly at 7 pm. there are also many Donnelly area kids and/or adults who are players or coaches of the many sb and bb teams playing games in Morris. The tri county horseshoe league also has games every week at the courts by the po

On Apr. 11 the annual band solo and ensemble contests were held in Morris, the following received awards as members of a group: McKenzie Smith and James Burke Jazz 1,McKenenzie was also a member of the  sax septet, the sax sextet and wind ensemble; Tom Holland and James Burke trombone quartet Alyssa Uphoff and McKayla Smith wind ensemble clarinet choir, McKayla also was a member of the woodwind duet; Dalton Lupke and John Huebner brass ensemble ,Pat Uphoff; brass ensemble ,and a euphonium solo ;Brandon Pry brass ensemble ;Mark Dunn and Myles Smith brass  quartet Amber Recker flute trio; Kristina Johnson flute duet
Congratulations to Shadow Olson of Donnelly who was named to the dean’s list at MSU-Morehead, Nicole Daly SWSU, and Taylor Nohl, MN state community and technical college (Fergus Falls)

A good crowd was on hand on June 21st for the Kiwanis Talent contest at Eastside Park , the winner was Camilla Bjorklund of Farwell, Justine Huebner was a member of a dance trio that finished in a tie for third along with the dance group  "Can't Turn You Loose" that Hailey Leisimeter was a member of. Earlier in the day Maynard Mau was one of the tour guides at the westmor 40th anniversary open house in Morris

The threshing bee royalty were part of the old settler’s parade in Barrett on June 23rd; prior to the parade I visited some friends at the Barrett home. Earlier in the day I attended a memorial service for Betty Gladke Bellmore in Morris. She was a housemate of my cousin Bevy at LL.

Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended the baptism service of  Kinzee Evink at GS on June 24th, in the aft we attended the ice cream social at ST J (Starbuck).Later in the aft I attended the vlbf parade in Alex. After the awards ceremony I visited a friend at the Bethany home in Alex

June 25th “New Wine” had their homecoming concert at First Lutheran members of the cast included Beth and Tom Holland and Amber Recker, Linda Holland was one of the chaperones.

June 26th I traveled to Spicer for the all-state Lutheran choir concert, afterwards I had an opportunity to say “hi” to Bev Nelson ,her husband was pastor at Kong in the late 60’s; enroute to the concert I stopped in Hancock for the relay for life supper

Jim and Lou Eystad attended the wedding of Courtney Vogel and Danny Grout on June 23rd at Assumption Catholic Church in Morris and the reception afterwards.  Between the two events they attended a graduation reception for McKayla Smith

Next edition June 23rd-29th Welcome to another edition of the of the Donnelly news. A reminder that I have changed the deadlines for my “mailboxes” in Donnelly from Tue eve to Mon noon. Weather news: most of the days have been sunny and mild however several nights have featured some nasty thunderstorms fortunately it has not produced anything other than some heavy rain showers around here. Crops continue to look very good esp. the cornfield by GS. STJ/KONG News: there will be joint services at Kong on June 24th @ 8:30 am note this is a change from what was announced earlier. Service times will switch on July 1st St J at 8:30am, Kong at 10:15 am. The fall schedule will resume in Sept. Nominations can be placed in bins that are up in Donnelly or via phone. For more information or call Sandy Dunn at 246-3292. Brandon Jergenson and Miranda Papesh received perfect attendance awards at MAES The following Donnelly area students were among those who were named spring athletes of the week; Megan Mecklenburg and Oliva Reimers sb, Tyler Heinrichs and Tom Holland bb, Beth Holland and Rebekah Aanerud track and field. Tom was also named to the west central tribune all area bb team Congratulations to Rhoda (Mike) Smith who recently became the new director of the Morris area chamber. I also recently learned that Tom Kloos is working for Detoy’s and Patrick Janachovsky for Mobiz. Kellie Wilts was a member of the 400 meter relay team that won 2nd place in a Hershey’s track meet in Morris recently Jim and Lou Eystad attended the funeral for Clarice J. Yerigan at First Lutheran on June 16th and in the aft the Eystad family reunion at Pomme De Park in Morris Good crowds were on hand on June 14th for the fed-tel annual meeting at the MAES (thanks to CNE for the gift card I won there) and at Eastside Park for the Kiwanis talent contest. Syd Beyer was a member of a dance group called “Thunder” which won first place. The DFD was among the units in the 125th anniversary parade in Wheaton on June 17th. I also had an opportunity visit with former Donnelly area resident Rollo Mau before the parade. The threshing bee royalty were in the Keng parade Steve Fults and I were among those who attended the Westrom/Dutcher fundraising picnic at Eastside Park on June 18th and later the ice cream social at the Donnelly hall on June 18th. Thanks to the Rendsville 4-h for making all the delicious pies and the royalty for helping serve the ice cream. After the social the community club had their monthly meeting as we continue to make plans for the threshing bee. Advance sale buttons are now on sale in various Donnelly business and all UFMSB locations (they will cost more at the gate). The theme this year is “the bee something for everyone.” We are looking for people willing to be charge of the kiddie parade and the white elephant sale and of course help of any kind by anybody before, during, and after the bee is always welcome. Weather news; the last weeks has seen mostly sunny and warm temps with some eve rain showers. About all I have seen out in the countryside are some farmers putting up some hay STJ/KONG News: there will be joint services at Kong on June 24th @ 8:30 am GSLC news: June 17th is new member Sun The first installment of the summer reading program will be held on June 20th at 6:30 pm at the church. The May mission of the month is madascar mission, the coffee money will go to relay for life The all state Lutheran choir will be traveling throughout MN beginning today (SAT) the closest places this year are Breck on the 17th and Spicer on the 26th visit their website http://www.maslc.org for a complete itinerary Starting June 15 and concluding July 31, the Donnelly Threshing Bee Royalty Committee will be taking nominations for girls to run for our 2012 Threshing Bee Royalty. The Committee will have bins at the following businesses: Post Office, Donnelly Coop & HD & Co, for the community to nominate royalty candidates. Little Miss candidates age group is 8-10 years old. Queen candidate’s age group is 15-19 years old. The committee will contact all those nominated to ask for their acceptance. You may also call in your nominations or for more information at 246-3292. Also from Sandy Attn. Donnelly past Royalty, Do you still have your photo from the year you were crowned? We may need to make a copy for our display at the Depot. The prior photos have gone missing and we would like to continue displaying all the past Royalty during the Threshing Bee. Call me if we can get a copy of your Royalty year. Unless you may know where the photo collection is or who may have it, let me know please. There will not be any more ll games in Donnelly this year however many Donnelly area kids and some adults are involved as players or coaches on one of the many bb and sb teams that play around Morris during the summer and there are women’s sb games on Thursday evenings in Donnelly The bookmobile will be in town at 3:30 pm on June 25th Due to a conflict the Donnelly community club will meet on June 18th at the Donnelly hall the regular schedule will resume in July. There will be a bike rodeo at the hall at 6 pm There will a supper at Eastside Park in Morris on June 18th from 5:30-7:30 sponsored by the Dutcher for house and Westrom for senate campaigns to raise funds for their campaigns free will offering. A memorial service will be held on June 30th at 11 am at ST Paul’s Lutheran church in Morris Congratulations to Robert (Dan) and Lavonne Kloos on the occasion of their golden wedding anniversary. Several members of the Morris c-a girls track team competed in the state track meet June 8 & 9th McKenzie Smith finished in 11th place in the 1600 and 13th in the 3200. Beth Holland was a member of the 4x 200 meter relay team that finished in 8th place Briella Renne Koehntop was baptized at Faith Lutheran on June 3rd. Her parents are Kyle and Mandi (Kloos) Koehntop. Kallen Erdahl recently received president’s award for physical fitness for the 5th grade all-star sportsmanship awards were presented to Kylie Mau and Jackson Loge 2nd grade ,Kallen Erdahl 5th grade Auddy speer 6th grade Congratulations to Brady Jergenson who was named to the all-tournament team at the 3rd annual Mitchell Kleindi memorial bb tournament Congratulations to Tara Flaten who made the honor role at HHS and to Brady and Brooke Geliespe who did that same at C-A H.S. Carrie Wilts was recently recognized for being a member of the H-N 5 &6th grade school patrols she and her sister Kellie received purple and blue awards as science fair inventors at H_N Amanda Werk graduated from Concordia College recently her parents are Randy and Louisa Werk grandparents are Glen and Gertie In one of the past papers I read that a T Speer from Donnelly had graduated from college but I do not know who that is The Stevens co gen soc. had a workday at the library on June 7th. We decided that we would continue to do that during the months that we do not have a meeting, in the eve a good crowd was on hand for the Kiwanis talent contest at Eastside Park. June 8th Steve Fults and I attended the Agralite annual meeting in Benson; Jeff Hufford was elected to the board from dist. 2 The start of another busy summer parade season began for our threshing bee royalty on June 9th with parades in Cyrus and Chokio. Be sure to check out the community billboard in town when you drive though so you know what is going on in Donnelly.

Next edition June 9th-15th Welcome to another edition of the of the Donnelly news. To make my life a little easier I have deiced to move the dead line of my “news” boxes in Donnelly from Tue eve to Mon noon but will leave the deadline as is for my box at McCollar’s Jewelry as well as for other means (e-mail, phone call)etc. Weather news: the weather has been sunny and mild for most of the last week farmers are busy haying and/or spraying S J/Kong parish news: VBS will be at Kong this year from June 10-13th from 6-8 pm, the 13th will be a day camp at Luther Crest leaving at 8 am and returning about 4 pm. preschoolers welcome on June 10-12th however they must have completed kindergarten to go to the day camp. To register or for more info call the church office at 246-3211 The June newsletter is out; extra copies are available in the narthex of ea. church Lungile Nyathakazi who is an HIV aids educator in the SE diocese of South Africa, will be the guest speaker on June 13th at Trinity Lutheran church of Benson The eve will begin with a picnic supper (free will offering) at 6 pm continue with her talk, songs and prayers around the campfire. McKenzie Smith placed 2nd in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs and 9th in the shot put, Rebekah Aanerud placed 12th in the 100th hurdles, Beth Holland was a member of the 4x 100, 4x 200 relay teams that finished second and fourth, Kourtney Geise and Savannah Aanerud were members of the 4x 800 team that finished third. Zach Geise was a member of the Morris/c-a boys’ golf team that finished third in the sub section The Morris/ca bb team finished in third place in the wccs: team members include; Tom Holland, Chandler Erickson, Brody Bahr and Tyler Heinrichs Congratulations to Beth Heinrich who won a grill from KMRS /KKOK More grads: Kristi Kopel (Mike and Joan) Eddie and Lou Weston Anderson (Jeff and Ali) In one of my visits with Geo Kramer he informed he had a grandson that graduated recently Scholarship winners at MAHS were Jacob Moser (4) Pat Uphoff (4) Megan Mecklenburg (4) Sydney Beyer (5) and Kaitlin Van Horn(1) Lloyd Lesmeister was the winner of the Curtis Van Horn scholarship and the William and Thora Cooley scholarship went to Christiana Thooft, Courtney Ehleringer and Patrick Uphoff. Tara Flaten received several scholarships at Hancock HS and Brady Geliespe also received several at the C-A school Roma Fostervold and Milt and Rudy Anderson of Willmar were visitors at my place on June 3rd Jim and Lou Eystad helped out NAPS at the Morris sr center on June 6th next month’s distribution will be held on July 2nd. Several Donnelly area students are members of the council Congratulations to Jackie Dripps who is celebrating her 20th yr. of daycare Britney Cardwell was one the of girl scouts receiving a certificate of commendation from the VFW Auxiliary, she also earned a girl scout cadette silver award and was bridged to sr girl scouts the Morris/ c-a track team won the subsection track meet on May 24th MaKenzie smith finished 2nd in the 1600 and third in 3200 meter runs and also finished 5th in the discus Rebekah Aanerud finished 4th in 100 hurdles and 2nd in the 300, Beth Holland was a member of the 4 x 100 and 4 x 200 relay teams that finished first and second. She and McKenzie were members of the 4 x 400m that finished fifth.
