donnelly news

Next edition May 2nd-8th

Welcome to another addition of the Donnelly news. I want everyone to know that I did write a column last week but “for various reasons” it did not get in the paper.   It is however on –line at the papers website, and my blog ,and I have printed a copy and posted it in the po in Donnelly for you to read  & I will also leave one at McCollar Jewelry for anyone that wants to read it

Weather news: well hopefully the cold weather has left us for good and we can continue to enjoy the warm sunny weather we have enjoyed this week. I personally have not seen a lot of field work going on however it is my understanding there is a lot of it going on.

St John’s/Kongsvinger news:  there will be joint communion services on May 3rd at 11 am at Kongsvinger


If anyone has a graduate in the family this year please let the parish office know ASAP.

Other church news:  National day of prayer at 7 pm at the Morris evangelical free church on May 7th
The dates for the desert theater performances of new wine have been changed to May 27th and June 3rd @ 6pm @1st-Morris
Community news: on May 3rd the city council and rendsville 4-h will meet in a 7 p.m. at city hall and St John's in Donnelly

May 11th the bookmobile will be in town on main st at 3:30 pm the Donnelly community club will meet at the community hall and the firemen will meet at the fire hall both at 7 pm

May 6th the Stevens county genealogical society will meet at 1:30 pm at the Morris library
Open House Bridal Shower for Sydney Beyer, bride to be of Mac Kampmeier May 16th 10 am –noon at Morris Sr. center

“Wags, whiskers, and wine” sponsored by Stevens community humane society today (Sat.) at old # 1 Southside beginning with social hr. at 6 pm tickets available at the door

The Morris FFA ‘15-‘16 officers are Savannah Aanerud ,reporter, Becca Holland treasure, Jonna Moser,  president; awards: outstanding sophomore and Jr. were Savannah Aanerud and  Jonna Moser. Jonna was a member of the Ag issues cde team that placed third in the state.  
Austin Robert Johnson was born on April 23 at Stevens Community Medical Center, Morris to Robert and Ashli Johnson of Morris Grandparents include, Ray Kramer of Morris,  Great-grandparents are Joyce Kramer from Morris and Maynard Koehntop  of Morris

Thank you to the Wayne Grunklee family for furnishing and serving cake for coffee hr. after services at Good shepherd on April 26th in honor of my birthday and to Wally McCollar and Mark Koepke for the birthday supper on April 27th at Detoy’s. It was most memorable birthday I have ever had.

April 25th I traveled to Glenwood where I met Rev A.J. Kluver from Alex from there we traveled to the LCMC Augustana district convention at Christ the king church in Hutchinson. Other events during the past week included the Ruth Benston funeral at 1st-Morris, the Don Poppe & Annete Veum visitation at the Pederson funeral home, the pioneer tractor show at the Viking plaza in Alex a visit with Rose Hanson at the Bethany manor in Alex, the Mitch Kendall archery shoot at Niemackl Lake Park –Herman, burgers, beverages, and blessing at the diamond supper club-Morris

donnelly news

Next edition April 25th-may 1st
Welcome to another addition of the Donnelly news.
Weather news: well the past week has been another reminder of Minnesota’s Ever changing weather going from summer like weather with temps in the ‘70’s, back to more winter like winter with temps in the 30’s cold NW winds and some light snow. Have seen very little evidence of fieldwork in the area have heard too cold and too wet yet to do much. Did talk to one farmer who had planted some corn and was now 2nd guessing that decision.
St John’s/Kongsvinger news:  services will be broadcast on KMRS (1230 AM) April 26th at 11 a.m. sponsored by Gary and Pat smith and family in memory of Ervin and Leana smith
The woman’s book club has been rescheduled for May 4th a 9 a.m. at the Bertha Larson home in Donnelly
Good shepherd news: Delores Hauggorde memorial service will be held today at 11 A.M. at the church
 Adult education “William Tyndale—bible translator and martyr” will be held April 26th after coffee fellowship at about 10:45 a.m.
Other church news:  the Augustana district convention of the LCMC will be held today (Sat) at Christ the King Lutheran church Hutchinson beginning at 9 a.m.
Burgers and Blessings, is held every Wed eve, in the back room of the met lounge at 7 p.m.
St John’s starbuck service (sermon) is broadcast on kmrs every Sunday afternoon at 5:40 p.m.
New wine desert performances will be on May10 and 16th at first-Morris at 7 p.m., tickets are available at either faith or first Lutheran

There will be a presentation on the Boener family cemetery by Rebecca Dean from UMM and former Donnelly area resident Scott boener at 4 p.m. today (sat) at the odd fellows’ hall in Herman

Death notices: three former Donnelly area residents passed away recently Lawrence Kloos passed away on Apr. 16th, Grace (Gulbrandson) Derby passed away on Apr 18th, and Ruth Benston passed away on April 19th. I was among those who attended Lawrence’s funeral at Peace –Barrett and Grace’s visitation at the um church -Herman on April 20th.
Amanda Dohlen of Cyrus passed away on Apr. 17th survivors include her daughter in law Sharon Geise (Gerald) Dohlen of Cyrus and their family. I was among those who attended her visitation at the funeral home on Apr. 20th
Annette Veum of Morris passed away on Apr. 21st survivors include her brother Tom (Roxanne Stevenson) Lesmeister of Morris and Tony Lesmeister of Donnelly

Celebrations: Bennet and Gabi Nienhaus made the honor roll at Hancock H.S.
Tiger track: Marv Meyer invite in Morris ;The boys and girls both finished first girls: Savanah Aanerud was 2nd in the 800 m dash, a member of the 4x400 m relay team that finished first, and the 4 x 800 m that finished third, the 4x100 m relay team that placed second, Islande Speer was a member of that team; boys: 3200 m ,Dalton Lupke (6th );110 m hurdles ,Bo Gullickson (6th );discus: John Huebner( 8th  )   );Levin Strand was a member of the 4x 100 m relay team that finished second  and  the 4 x200 m relay that finished first
Past week I attended the St. John’s spring fling, and the Wayne Lemmerman benefit and, the spring rummage and bake-sale both at Faith-Morris and burgers and a blessing at the diamond supper club
Gail and Owen Gibson of Avon and Laurie Hofer of St Cloud spent some time this weekend visiting family and friends in the area and attending the St John’s spring fling.

Weather news: after months of snow, rain and cold temps it has finally warmed up although we could use some rain, have seen a few farmers out in the field
St John’s/Kongsvinger news:  Spring fling at St John’s today (Saturday) from 10:30 a.m. to 1 pm
The woman’s book club has been rescheduled for May 4th a 9 am at the Bertha Larson home in Donnelly

Morris area H. S. Knowledge bowl team placed 12th in the state Adam uphoff was a member of that team
Hancock H.S. honor roll Bennet and Gabi Nienhaus
Tiger track, Morris invite: girls (1st )4 x 100 – (1) Morris/C-A ;Islande Speer was a member of that team ,Savanah Aanerud  was a member of the 4x400 relay team that finished first and the 4x 800 team that finished 4th ; boys: 3200 Meter ,Dalton Lupke (6th)  ;4x 200 meter relay (2nd) Levin strand was a team member LPQV meet :girls  (first) ;savannah was a member of the 4x800 and 4x400 relay that both finished first;4x100 relays (first) Islande a member ,800 meters savannah (2nd  )boys :triple jump; john huebner (8th )
The Donnelly community club had their first meeting of the year on April 13th as we begin to make plans for our annual threshing bee on Aug.29th & 30th remember this will be our 50th anniversary so we are looking for anything made in 1965 and for pictures of past bees. We are also looking for past minutes from community club meetings apparently somewhere along the line some have disappeared and most of those who were involved in getting the bee off the ground are no longer around. Anyone who has any ideas and/or suggestions for it and/or other events let me or one of the officers know about it.
Past week I attended, the smelt fry in Herman, the Morris co-op supper and the cattleman’s steak fry at the prairie inn, the Belgian waffle fundraiser for someplace safe at old #1 Southside, burger and a blessing at the met lounge in Morris

Former Donnelly area resident Merle Waller of Joliet IL passed away April. 2nd, survivors include his aunt Lillian Heinrich. His parents were the late Hiram and Mae Waller of the Donnelly area; they operated a café in Donnelly for a number of years


Celebrations: Lexi Jo Melberg was born on March 25 at Lake Region Healthcare, to Scott and Amber Melberg of Fergus Falls. Grandparents are Bob and Sharon Melberg of Chokio and Brian and Peg Kruize of Morris. Great grandparents include Harry and Corrine Kruize of Donnelly and Glen and Nancy Koop of Morris
Taya Jane Lehman was born on March 11, to Nick and Laura Lehman, of Herman. Grandparents are Paul and Nancy Thompson, Peggy and Mike Corey all of Herman, and the late Donald Lehman. Great grandparents are Glen and Gertie Werk of Donnelly and Diane Corey of Herman.There will be a meet and greet for her on April 15th from 6-8 pm at the Paul and Nancy Thompson home 58 berlin Ave. S Herman
Jackson Loge was one of the “I love to read” winners at Morris area elementary school
At the state Business professional leadership conference in Minneapolis many chapter members competed at the leadership conference. The following groups and individuals placed at state and have the opportunity to compete at the National BPA Conference in May in Anaheim, California:  bo Gullickson was a member of Network Design Team 1: Riley Biesterfeld was a member of  Broadcast News Production Team 2:,

Thanks to Bob Burner for this: The Donnelly Co-op had its 95th annual meeting on March 19th at the Donnelly community center Carol Boeland from Hennen and associates presented the 2014 financial report sales and earnings for ’14 were down from’13 earnings for 14 were 283,624 compared to the record earnings of 717,270 in ’13 manager Burner remarked on capitol improvement and fixed asset purchases of $288,000 and the purposed spending for ’15 which will include the availably of 91 octane ethanol free gas and the possibility of purchasing the bsnf property (agronomy property the coop currently leases  equity retirement checks amounting to $131,748 and 35 % dividend checks were distributed

Weather news: well March came in a lion, thankfully it going out like a lamb as we have finally gotten some nice sunny warm spring weather
St John’s/Kongsvinger news: There will be services at St. John’s at 8:30 a.m. and Kongsvinger at 10 a.m. on April. 5th (Easter Sunday) , there will be no s.s. and no Easter brunch that day either, this is a change from what was announced earlier.
Good shepherd news: there will be a brunch after church on Easter Sunday

Community news: the Kurt Kruize memorial scholarship fundraiser dinner will be held today (Saturday) at the Hancock community center from 3-7 p.m. free will donations
The City council and rendsville 4-h will meet at city hall and St John’s on April 6th @ 7 p.m.
The Donnelly community club will have their first meeting of the year on April. 13th at 7 p.m. at the community hall

Spring sports season is underway in tiger track Aberdeen meet on the girls side, Savanah Aanerud crossed the finish line first in the 800m run in 2:38.92. On the girls side, the 800-meter sprint medley took 3rd team members included Islande Sperr, and Savanah Aanerud, In the girls 4x4, took third savannah was a member of that team.in the boys 55M HURDLES (11) Bo Gullickson, (13) John Huebner; 55M (24) Levin Strand, he was also a member of the 800 SPRINT team that finished 11th;in the 200M Bo Gullickson finished 25th

Science fair gr. 4 Hannah Cellega tied for 4th; gr. 5 Jackson Loge first
Chelsea (Wishnack) Brezinka received the “2015 pharmacist excellent in patient care award” at Walmart-Princeton MN

Past week the habitat for humanity pork chop fundraiser at the Legion, the Wulf cattle seminar and sale at the Wulf farm, this and that sale at federated church-Morris, the cina pow at the umm pe center, the presentation on the boener family cemetery at umm, Ellen Dornquist funeral at Faith –Morris, community expo at the maes and rep party executive committee meeting at the Legion.
On March 31st while in Alex I stopped to visit Elroy Frank and take in his moving sale. He has put his house up for sale and is moving into an apartment in St Cloud. I also visited a friend in the Bethany Home
