Next edition May 30th _June 5th

Welcome to another addition of the Donnelly news.

Weather news:  most of last week was sunny and mild, however it turned cool and rainy on Sun and Mon, some sunny warm weather this week should help dry things out. Most of the crops are up and looking good so far

St John’s/Kongsvinger news: starting on May 31st and continuing every Sun. through the month of June (except for the 14th) there will be joint services at Kongsvinger at 9 a.m. and starting on June 3rd there will be joint services at 7 p.m. at St John’s

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL will be held on June 15, 16, 17th from 5:00 until 7:30 p.m. each day. Open to four year olds through completing fourth grade. Grandchildren are welcome! Be watching for more information in the June Newsletter. You may pre-register by calling the Parish office at 246-3211.

Copies of the summer worship schedule are posted on the doors of both churches

Good shepherd news: Martin Olaf Hanson  was born on May 27th at SCMC to Pr Mike and Pr Martha Hanson; grandparents are Chuck and Liz Spohr of Morris; Tyrone and Shirley Hanson of Hoffman

Vbs will be held on June 15-18th, from 1-4 p.m. at good shepherd, Held in cooperation with Zion –Morris and led by staff from Lutheran Island Bible camp. To register or for more info call Zion Lutheran 589-2744

Other church news:  New Wine performances begin this month. Dessert Theatre Performances will be at First Lutheran on June 3rd, at 6:00 p.m. The last two church performances before the tour will be on, June 14th, at First Lutheran and June 21st at Trinity Lutheran in Cyrus both at 9 a.m. homecoming concert is July 1st at first-Morris at 7 p.m.

There will be a farewell coffee hour for interim pastor Don Berheim on May 31st following services at about 10 a.m. at first Lutheran-Morris. Graduating seniors will also be recognized

There will be no Burgers, beverages and blessings on June 3rd it will resume June 10th at 7 p.m.in the basement of the Old # 1.

Community news Stevens’ county genealogical society will meet on June 4th at 1:30 p.m. at the Morris library

City council and rendsville 4-h will meet on June 1st at 7 p.m. at city hall and St. John’s.

Death notice: former Donnelly resident Ken Cline of Fergus Falls passed away on May 23rd, services are private (no visitation) with burial at Frog Lake cemetery near Alberta

On June 8th the bookmobile will be on Main Street at 3:30 p.m.., at 7 p.m. the community club and the fireman will meet at the community and fire hall.

There will be an open house bridal shower for Emma Strachan, bride-to-be of Tom Kloos (son of Phil and Kris Kloos)  on  June 6th, , starting at 10:30 a.m. at the Kongsvinger Parish Hall. Everyone is welcome!

Agralite electric annual meeting June 1st at 7 p.m. at the Benson sr. high school, Benson

Celebrations: Tiger track: the girls won the sub section meet at Benson with Islande Sperr and Savannah Aanerud finishing in the top 3 in the events they were part of and are moving on to the section tournament in several of those events., The boys finished 2nd, Levin Strand, John Huebner, Bo Gullickson and Dalton Lupke finished in the top 15 of the events they participated in.

Catlin Krenz of Bismarck ND and Craig Nelson of grand forks N.D., announce their engagement. Her parents are Mark and Terry (Boener) Krenz; grandparents are the late Bob and Bernice Boerner of the Herman/Donnelly area

Gabi Nienhaus received the feed the children award from the Hancock H.S., she also received 3 scholarships. The Sgt. Kurt Kruize scholarship was awarded to Leah Street

Brooke Gillespie recently received a music, speech, and service award at C-A h.s. 

 I will be doing my annual grad recognition hopefully next week if you have any esp.in higher Ed let me know or of any open houses.

Lois Johnson called me to say something had been stolen from her husband (Ken’s) grave recently and she asked that it be returned ASAP no questions asked

Past wk. block party planning meeting at St John’s birthday party for Helen Peterson at buddies’ Hancock, Herman –Norcross h.s graduation, and reception for Brad Dahlen at Legion, memorial services at the armory and memorial dedication and burgers, beverages and blessing at old #1

After spending some time putting decoration on graves of family and friends on May 23rd I stopped at the Barrett Care center to visit Iver Aal.

Welcome to another addition of the Donnelly news.
Weather news:  It rained off and on most of last week we got about 3-4”of rain over the weekend and it has turned cold this week, we actually had some snow Mon a.m.
St John’s/Kongsvinger news:  There will be joint services at St. John’s on May 24th and at Kong May 31st both at 9 a.m.
On May 17th Taya Jane Lehman was baptized at Kongsvinger.
Our graduates this year are Hannah Jo Larson and Amanda Casselton
Good shepherd news: youth (7th-12th) are invited to a high ropes course, a rocking climbing wall, and zip line at Luther crest –Alex on June 3rd, please register by May 27th
Mitchell Aschman and Lacce Jo Mananum were recognized as our graduates this yr. on May 17th.

Community news A supper and silent auction benefit for Randy Fults of Donnelly will be held today (Saturday) from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at-Faith-Morris. Thrivent Financial will provide supplemental funding. Donations may be made at Dacotah Bank. Randy is home recovering from major heart surgery in Rochester last week. If you would like to volunteer to help or provide food or silent auction items, please contact Karen Uphoff at 246-3533. His parents are Virgil and Theresa Fults

Celebrations: Tiger track: the girls placed 4th in the state true team meet, Savannah Aanerud finished first in the 800 m run, the girls finished first at the wcc meet at Benson on May 15th the boy s 2nd. Savannah Aanerud and Islande Sperr finished in the top 12 either individually or a member of a relay team, on the boys side john huebner finished in the top 10 in his events.
The tiger sb team won the west central conference north title recently going undefeated in the conference; team members include Sam Henrichs, Becca Holland, and Brooke Gillespie. Brooke threw a new hitter in the opening game of the section playoffs in Morris on May 19th
Jill Loge has been named personal banker at the bremer bank in Morris
Nancy Erdahl received an outstanding factuality award from UMM recently
I had a note form Corrine Larson in my box about the threshing bee parade: the parade committee is looking for “things” that are 50 yrs. old for the parade; trucks, tractors cars etc. as well as those 50 years old, or who been married 50 yrs. or anything else you can think of. Call Lori Sperr 246-3496 or Kaylene Mecklenburg 795-2711 for more info or to register a unit in the parade. “Thank you in advance for helping us have a grand parade” reminder the threshing bee dates are Aug. 29th and 30th and IH is the feature this year as well as anything made in ’65. The next community club mtg is June 8th.

Welcome to another addition of the Donnelly news.
Weather news: weather has been a bit of a potpourri this last week some nice days followed some colder ones Tue was had freezing rain in the a.m. which made for slippery driving
St John’s/Kongsvinger news: Lenten services will again alternate between
St John’s and Kongsvinger at 7pm with a soup supper at 6 pm preceding services starting with Ash Wed services at Kong on Feb 18th (no supper) continuing at St john’s on Feb 25th.
  An inter-generational Sunday School Event “A Mountain Top Experience” will be held on Sunday, February 15th from 9:45 A.M. to 10:45 A.M. at the Kongsvinger Parish Hall. All people of all ages are most welcome to join us for this event

Good shepherd news Lenten services will be held on Wed eves at 7 pm starting with Ash Wed services on Feb 18th 
There will be a breakfast on Mar 8th following services to raise money for improvements to the parking lot.
Other church news: St. Mary’s School annual dinner and auction will be held today (Sat) beginning with social hour at 5 p.m. at the Old No. 1 Southside in Morris.

The glacial ridge assembly of the ELCA that was ppd on Feb 8th has been rescheduled for Feb 22 at 2 pm at Trinity Lutheran –Alberta
Habitat for humanity pancake breakfast: Saturday February 21st 7 a.m. until 11 a.m. @ Hancock community center. Free will donation

Community news: The Donnelly Fire Department meets on Feb. 16th at 7 p.m. at the fire hall and bookmobile will be in town at 3:30 pm
The Stevens County Republican Party’s annual convention will be held on Feb 20th at 7 p.m. at the Morris American Legion. Rep Backer and Sen. Westrom will also be holding a town hall meeting at the library from 3:45-4:30 pm earlier that day
There will be an open house 100th birthday celebration for Marlys Alm on Saturday, Feb. 21 from 2 to 4 p.m. at West Wind Village. Everyone is welcome. No gifts, please.

Gymnastics west central conference meet tigers 3rd  Tiger gymnastics wcc meet tigers 3rd (also third in conference standings) Savannah Aanerud Tied for 10th Place on Vault, Tied for 8th Place on Bars, 5th Place on Beam, 9th on Floor, 5th in All-Around
Katie Giese and Savannah Aanerud performed stuck Beam routines; Savannah also made all conference
Amanda Luthi of Donnelly graduated summa cum laude from the College of St. Scholastica on Dec. 13 in a commencement ceremony at the Reif Gymnasium on campus. Luthi graduated with a bachelor of science in Nursing.
Huxton Evan Brustuen was born on February 4, 2015 at Stevens Community Medical Center, Morris, to Abigail Kontz and Josh Bogenreif of Donnelly.  Grandparents are Tom and Elise Kontz of Clara City, Brian Daly and Kris Kontz of Alberta, and Brenda Brustuen of Morris.
On Jan. 27, the Morris Area High School knowledge bowl teams attended a meet in Fergus Falls. Morris Mahoney took first place in the written round and third place overall, Adam Uphoff is a member of that team. Morris Misty Blue took eighth place. Amber and Dalton Uphoff are members of that team
Hancock Jr. high girl’s bb team won a tournament in Sisseton bennet Nienhaus was a member of that team
Keaton Long is a member of the west central area knights wrestling team that won the prairie lakes conference tournament
Past week attended the memorial service for Don Uphoff at faith, Mark Koepke and I attended the gymnastic fundraiser at the Pizza ranch, worship services at West Central homes with Deaconess Deb presiding afterwards we visited a few min with my aunt Pearl A. Anderson in the eve we attend the spaghetti fund raiser at the Morris evangelical free church, 
Burgers and blessing at the diamond supper club (this will be on hiatus until after Easter.)


As many of you know I spent last weekend in the hospital for some medical issues thanks to Wally McCollar and Mark for their help while I was in the hospital, and to Pr Mike Hanson and everyone else who visited me up there.
Class of’55 update: Wally is putting the finishing touches on the invitations for the class reunion and they should be in the mail shortly. He says he has already booked 7 rooms at the Prairie inn for his classmates .a reminder if you have any pictures of the class, or a ’55 Iwatka you can drop them off at Wally’s store ,send them to him, or e-mail them too me at aenders@fedtel.net His # at the store is 320-589-0127

Welcome to another addition of the Donnelly news. This week’s edition is dedicated to Mark’s foster Mom Elsie Koepke who passed away 10 years ago today (Sat.)
Weather news:  everybody’s spirits were raised over the weekend as we had a “million$ rain we got about 2” here. Most farmers in the area have their crops in some are up more will be now
St John’s/Kongsvinger news:  If anyone has a graduate in the family this year please let the parish office know ASAP. 
There will be joint services at St. John’s on May 24th and at Kong May 31st both at 9 a.m.
Good shepherd news: there will be a special congregational meeting on May 17th to discuss options for the parking lot.
Open house wedding dance for Kathy O’Keeffe and Dave Anderson today (Saturday) at west Pomme Lodge from 8p.m. to midnight

There are two Open House Bridal Showers today (Sat.) from 10 a.m. –noon:  the first one is for Sydney Beyer, bride to be of Mac Kampmeier  at the Morris Sr. center the 2nd one is for Maria Cin and  Jeffrey McSorley, Jr. at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Morris.  Recipe cards are requested for both couples.

Death notices Sylvia L. Krei age 93 of Maple Grove, MN (formerly of Alberta, MN) passed away on May 8, survivors include her sister former Donnelly area resident Bertie (Ralph) Sperr of Morris and their family

Tiger track: The girls tiger track team will be competing the state true team track meet in Stillwater today (Sat.) at the Ortonville meet Islande Sperr placed in the top 6 either individually or as a member of a relay team, for the boys John huebner placed in the top 10 in events he competed in. (some track members did not compete here due to the national Bpa convention)
The owl JV team recently won a bb tournament in Wheaton; Brent Nienhaus was a member of that team

The Donnelly community club had a lengthy meeting on May 11th as we discussed suggestions and ideas for the bee.  It was decided to raise admission prices by a dollar; I had to leave early before discussion was finished on several other ideas. Next edition May 2nd-8th

Welcome to another addition of the Donnelly news. Happy Mother’s day to all the mothers esp. to those like me who have our mothers in heaven now

Weather news:  sunny warm mild weather during the last week means that most farmers were able to get in the fields and get their crops in. I suspect by the time most of you read this most farmers will be just about done planting for the year. However it is still very dry we have not had a good rain yet this spring

St John’s/Kongsvinger news:  Beginning in June there will be joint worship services at Kong on Sun a.m. and St. John’s Wed. eve. until further notice, the schedule is in the May newsletter available in the back of both churches

If anyone has a graduate in the family this year please let the parish office know ASAP.

Open House Bridal Shower for Sydney Beyer, bride to be of Mac Kampmeier May 16th 10 a.m. –noon at Morris Sr. center

Death notices Marilyn J Kaehler, of Morris passed away on April 30th survivors include her sister Joann (Arven) Graff and brother in law Milfred Kaehler both of the Donnelly area and their families. Her funeral is today (Saturday) at the funeral home in Morris

Sylvia Schmidt of Morris passed away on May 7th survivors include her daughter Gail (Paul) Kloos and family of the Donnelly area. As of this writing funeral arrangements are pending.

Tiger track: Benson girls 1st, boys 3rd; Islande Sperr, Becca Holland and Savannah Aanerud finished in the top 4 in the events they competed in either individually or as a member of a relay team at Benson, Sisseton and Hawley, and true team section, on the boys side Dalton Lupke and Levin Strand finished in the top 10 in the events they competed in either individually or as members or a relay team at all 4 meets. The tiger girls also won the section 5 true team championship on May 5th at UMM, the boys finished 5th.

Maria Cin and Jeffrey McSorley Jr. are engaged to married, her parents are Jerry and Wanda Cin of Morris a bridal shower for them will be held May 16 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Morris. 
Kashton Lee Hormann was born on April 28 to Devin and Chelsea Hormann of Starbuck.  Grandparents include Dean and Leila Hormann of Starbuck.  Great grandparents include John DeLong of Morris.

At the West central area h.s. wrestling banquet Keaton Long was recognized for having the most escapes during the year

MAES math masters placed 12th at the woodland elem. school in Alex, Jackson Loge a member of that team

The following were members of groups that received superior and/or excellent awards at the solo and ensemble concert held at MAHS recently  Becca Holland, Lindsay Flogstad, John Huebner, Mason Dunn, Adam Uphoff ,Brittany Cardwell ,Lee Eystad, Amber Uphoff, Shannon Kill
