Welcome to another edition of the of the Donnelly news
Weather news: other than a few minor rains showers the past week has been hot and dry. The crops and the garden produce that was on display at the Clinton & Herman fairs sure looked very good. I have seen some grain harvesting going on as well some haying esp. in the ditches. When I drove past the Donnelly co-op on Mon they were getting the binder ready to “swath” the threshing bee grain
STJ/KONG News: The parish is coordinating the 2nd annual block party to be held today (sat) at the threshing bee grounds in Donnelly there will be a sb game at 2 pm between the fireman and the rod and gun club. After the game about 4 pm supper will be served, on the menu is brats or hot dogs, beans, potato salad. There will be a free will offering to the food shelf. For more info contact the church office at 246-3211
GSLC news: VBS will be held on Aug. 8th 15th and 22nd beginning with a supper at 5:30 pm
Faith Lutheran of Morris will be celebrating its 25th anniversary on Aug. 4 & 5th with a variety of actives contact the church at 589-2970 for a complete schedule and more info
Jim Hendricks will be in concert at Trinity Lutheran Cyrus on Aug. 5th at 5 pm free will offering
The Erik and Karen Harstad family and Gulbrandson family reunion will be held at Kongsvinger Church of rural Donnelly on July 29 beginning with a potluck dinner at noon. Please bring a dish to pass and your own dishes. For more info call Jeanne Ennen at 246-3416
The annual VFW Cancer Aid Salad Luncheon will be August 2nd at the Old # 1 Southside.
  A quick reminder that July 31 is the deadline for nominations for queen or little Miss Donnelly
 There will be an open house bridal shower for Brianna Neuman today (sat) from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Methodist Church in Herman.
The st co rep party central cmte will meet at Detoy’s on July 30th at 6:30 pm
Caleb Bradley Giese was born on July 11, to Erik and Nichole Giese of Donnelly. Grandparents are Rodney and Linda Giese of Donnelly and Brad and Mary Audette of Brooklyn Park. Great-grandfather is Clarence Giese of Donnelly.
Ed Delong of Herman passed away on July 19th survivors include his wife Yvonne, brothers John and Ben and grandsons Ethan, Tate, Shane, and Brody Harstad. Several of us from the Donnelly area were among those who attended his funeral at the um church in Herman. I used to work for two sheep farmers in the area so when he and his father in law Walt Steger came to sheer their sheep it was my job to help catch them. My dad used to raise sheep however when I was born he sold them to pay the hospital bill, when my mom told Walt that, he thought he had made a good “trade”.
  The theme for our bee this year is “the “bee”, something for everyone”, the feature is Oliver and the website is http://www.donnellythreshingbee.com/

Congratulations to the Morris vfw bb team that receive the #1 seed in the dist. 5 playoffs, members include Brady and Bryce Jergenson, Bo Gullickson, Riley Biesterfield, and John Huebner ;Vance Gullickson and Rob Jergenson are coaches of the team they will host the playoffs this weekend at cheizek field in Morris
Congratulations to MaKenzie Smith who won the women’s 5 k at the "Marv Meyer fun run" held during ppd
Congratulations to Owen Gibson who placed third at the ppd hot shot contest in 4-5 grade division
Congratulations to Tyler Busse who won first place in the compact class at the Demo Derby’s in Clinton on July 28 and at Herman on July 29th
I did not get too many results from the Herman fair due to the heat and other factors but I do know that Janet Hoernemann won the silver tray from MN dak for baking with sugar, Fred Sperr won several grand champions for his woodwork and other things, and Clyde and Brenda Long’s children won several purples in 4-h.  Bryce and Courtney Lehmann both won their age division in the kids tractor pull
Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended the 2nd installment of the book club at GSLC on July 18th, earlier in the day
I visited Verle and Della Dunn at their home in Donnelly.
July 19th I visited my aunt Pearl Anderson in the hospital after she fell and broke her hip, she was transferred to the WWV on July 23rd where I visited her and some other friends there that eve
On July 20th I traveled to DeSmet SD to attend their wilder pageant and take in some sights around town. I left on July 21st traveling to Clinton, to see some of the Big Stone county fair, then went to Herman for the Grant co fair and I also saw the LTD ride go through Graceville. Several of us from the Donnelly area also attended it on the 22nd as well as the golden wedding anniversary celebration for Graham and Iloise Groth in the aft at the Bethlehem Lutheran church in Herman, in the eve I visited Selma Bruse in her apt in Herman.

The threshing bee royalty had a busy day on the 21st participating in the kids’ day parade in Benson in the am the grant co fair parade in Herman in the aft, and were at the Miss Morris/Miss Midwest pageant in the eve. The Dfd and Ennen’s repair were also in the Herman parade.

Welcome to another edition of the of the Donnelly news. Please keep in mind that well I will do my best to gather the news every week from various sources i.e. area papers, the radio station ,church bulletins ,newsletters, internet etc., the best source is from my readers so if you do have some news for me please let me know about it
Weather news: as I am writing this on wed am for the first time in about a month we are finally getting some badly needed rain and could very well be what the dr. ordered to ensure a great crop year. The past week has been pretty much a broken record very hot and dry. When I drove past some of wcroc fields earlier this week I saw they starting combine some wheat.
STJ/KONG News there will be communion services at both churches on July 22nd.

The ltd motor cycle ride is scheduled for today (sat) starting at 10 am in Appleton and coming through Morris about 4:30 pm. Part of the ltd is David Day who was married to Amy Gulbrandson more info call 1- 320-333-8615

Katie Jean Kruckman was born to Joshua Kruckman and Kellie Pry on July 16th. Grandparents are Dave and Cora Pry
Noah Scott and Weston Joseph were born on July 3rd in Fargo ND to Charles and Amanda Moser, grandparents are Greg and Donna Greiner, and great grandparents are Rollie and Jan Greiner
Brianna Marie Neuman and Benjamin James Summer wish to announce their engagement. Parents of the couple are Judy and Scott Neuman of Herman and Kathy and Wayne Summer of Alexandria. There will be an open house bridal shower for Brianna, on July 28 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Methodist Church in Herman.
Amy Day and Ryan Murray wish to announce their engagement. Parents of the couple are Gary and Bonnie Gulbrandson of Donnelly, Sue Murray of St. Paul and Bill Murray of Kansas City. Grandparents of the couple are Arlene Gulbrandson of Herman, Hazel Vestrum of Hoffman and Joe Osendorf of St. Paul.
Congratulations to Katie Geise of st Mary’s for winning the swcd mural contest She advanced to the area 2 competition where she placed third
July 16th I watched part of the babe Ruth championship game where red defeated black. Members of the black team were John Hubener, Reilly Biesterfield, and Brady Jergenson, his brother Brody was the bat boy, and his dad Rob was the coach. Vance Gullickson is the commissioner
Several current and former Donnelly area farmers were among those who attended the summer field day at Wcroc on July 13th. Mark Erickson is a member of the advisory board Kendra Sperr and Natalie Johnston are among the summer interns working out there. In the aft a good crowd was on hand to help the UFMSB celebrate its centennial.  It was nice to see several former Donnelly area residents who returned for the event.
In the eve a good crowd was on hand for the finals of the talent contest at Eastside Park Alex  McIntosh was the winner, Syd Byer was a member of the dance group “thunder” that placed third
July 14th Jim and Lou Eystad and I were among those attended the prairie Extravaganza at the fish and wildlife office and other actives of PPD.  On the 15th the threshing bee royalty and several members of the Dfd were part of the PPD parade.
Several current and former Donnelly area residents helped Elroy and Loraine frank celebrate their silver wedding anniversary in Nelson on the 14th
the threshing bee posters are now out you may pick one up at HD&CO in Donnelly, advance sale buttons are also on sale at various business in the Donnelly area and at all Ufmsb locations

Welcome to another edition of the of the Donnelly news.
Weather news: it continues to be very hot although not quite as hot as it was and we are badly in need of rain. Crops continue to look good despite everything
STJ/KONG News: there will be joint services on July 15th at Kong at 10:15 am with David Holtz executive director of Luther Crest as the guest speaker and the next communion service will be on July 22nd, when the regular service schedule will return.
There will be a special meeting at Kong on July 15 following services regarding the shingling /repair of the church
GSLC news: July 15th is new member Sunday
The red hatters will meet on July 20th at the 4-h food stand in Herman at 11 am during the grant co fair. The fair is July 19th -22nd Jeremiah Thompson is a member of the fair board
There will be a benefit supper and silent auction for Tyler Smith on July 19th from 4:30-7:30 pm in the tiger/cougar rooms at the prairie inn in Morris, he has a heart defect. His parents are Nathan and Heather Smith, grandparents are Roger and Sherry Gausman of Alberta, and Richard and Suzanna Smith of Morris, great grandmother is Pauline Smith, free will offering. If unable to attend to you can mail donations to Colleen Neal box 132 Alberta MN 56207 (Make checks out to Thrivent financial)
Chandra Busse and Steve Schmitz, both of Sauk Centre, announce their engagement. Chandra is the daughter of James and Julie Busse of Appleton; her grandparents are Verle and Della Dunn of Donnelly. Steve is the son of Florian and Rosella Schmitz of Sauk Centre. A September 22, 2012 wedding is planned at Zion Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre with a reception to follow at Gerards Banquet Facility.
Caden Shane Wevley was born to Shane and Holly Jo Wevley of Elbow Lake grandparents are Sherman and Sheeree Long of Hoffman, Kathy Wevley and John Jensen of Barrett, great grandparents are Virginia Long and Esther Wevley of Morris
Eugene J. Lesmeister passed away on July 5th survivors include his sons Tony of Donnelly, Tom and Roxanne of Morris and their family; grandson Casey (Danielle) and their family and granddaughter Audrey (Steve Larson) McNally of Donnelly. Some of you will remember that he used to come up to threshing bee and split wood. Verle and Della Dunn and I attended his visitation on July 9th at the funeral home and I also attended his funeral on July 10th at assumption

Andy Brevig and I were among those who attended the 4th of July celebration at Kong and the st co rep party central cmte meeting on July 5th at Detoy’s, the next mtg is scheduled for July 30th
The threshing bee royalty had a busy weekend. On July 7th they participated in the Hancock and Wendell parades and Kamern Sperr was in the parade in Starbuck on July 8th.  They went through the Wendell parade a second time on Sandy Dunn’s float, “hats off” to her and her family for doing a fantastic job of putting that parade together. The Dfd was also a part of the Hancock parade; I thought the Hancock band again did an excellent job of playing and preforming. After the Hancock parade I watched part of the tractor pull some of the pullers will probably be in Donnelly for the one at the threshing bee, later I attended part of the “jam” session at Della Conroy’s house. After the Wendell parade I stopped to visit Vivian Johnson. After the starbuck parade I visited several friends in the home and Donna Frank and Inga Mae Urke in their homes. On the 7th I also traveled to Herman to help with some painting at the fairgrounds and in the eve went back to Hancock for the fireworks show

On June 29th Jim and Lou Eystad attended the open house for Renne (Boursea) Thompson at the Hoffman community center honoring her for 20 years of being in business. Although she has sold her beauty shop Lou says she is going to continue working there part time.
On July 8th we attended the ilt presentation by Rev David Patterson at GSLC.
Joan Kopacek and I attended the fellowship and evangelism committee meeting at ST J on July 9th as we made plans for the block party to be held on July 28th at the threshing bee grounds. I will have more details next week.
Joan and Jerry Kopacek and I attended the RTA mtg in Barrett on July 11th enroute I stopped to visit my cousin Bev Hurlbut and a friend at the Barrett care center. Unfortunately Esther Cline is  no longer able to have visitors.

Weather news: it has been very hot and humid this week, fans, ac and other cooling devices have been working overtime. Corn and wheat continue to look very good, beans are lagging some.
STJ/KONG News: there will be joint services at St J on July 8th @ 8:30 a.m. and on July 15th at Kong at 10:15 am. David Holtz executive director of Luther crest will be the guest speaker on the 15th, the next communion service will be on July 22nd.

The 23rd Annual Luther Crest Bible Camp Quilt Auction will be held today (sat) at the Bible Camp near Alexandria.  Quilt review, silent auction, bake sale begins at 10 a.m. and live auction starts at 12:30 p.m.

July 12th will be the final game of ladies sb in Donnelly at 7 pm. The tri county horseshoe league also has games every week at the courts by the po
Ufmsb will be celebrating their centennial with a variety of events on July 13th in Donnelly starting with an ice cream social and concluding with a fireworks display
I have a little story to tell about the bank. My grandmother was Norwegian and she never learned to speak English so when she needed to do some business at the bank she went to see CC Erstad the president who was Danish. The two languages were similar enough so they could understand each other.

Douglas D. Pedersen, of Ivanhoe, passed away on June 21st; survivors include his father Ken Pedersen, and uncle, Merrill Pedersen both of Alex, and former Donnelly area residents. They owned and operated the Pedersen funeral home in Morris for many years.
Adam Jerome Lesmeister and Kendra Lee Gaebel proudly proclaim their engagement. Parents are Jerry and Jane Lesmeister of Morris and the late Jeanne Lesmeister, and Gary and Lori Gaebel of Becker, grandmother is Shirley (Anderson) Holman
On Tuesday, July 3 at the Blood mobile, Kathy Eystad completed her 8 gallon donation; Beth Heinrich completed her 4 gallon donation
On Apr. 11 the annual band solo and ensemble contests were held in Morris, the following received awards as members of a group: McKenzie Smith and James Burke Jazz 1,McKenenzie was also a member of the  sax septet, the sax sextet and wind ensemble; Tom Holland and James Burke trombone quartet Alyssa Uphoff and McKayla Smith wind ensemble clarinet choir, McKayla also was a member of the woodwind duet; Dalton Lupke and John Huebner brass ensemble ,Pat Uphoff; brass ensemble ,and a euphonium solo ;Brandon Pry brass ensemble ;Mark Dunn and Myles Smith brass  quartet Amber Recker flute trio; Kristina Johnson flute duet

Congratulations to the Morris b squad sb team that had an undefeated season Samantha Heinrichs was a member of that team

Congratulations to Brooke Geliespe who won the hustle award for grades 6-8 at the tiger bb camp she also placed in the top three in several events of the kid’s games during the Chokio community picnic
A good crowd was on hand again for the Kiwanis talent show on June 28th the group tea tom took first place
A good crowd was on hand on June 30th for the memorial service for Esther Pasche at St Paul’s Lutheran church, in the aft I traveled to Herman to help do some painting at the fairgrounds
After services at Kong on July 1st I visited Denny Anderson in his house in Donnelly later Jim and Lou Eystad and I visited Gary Weirs at scmc as of this writing he is in the Good Sam home in Hoffman
Jerry and Joan Kopacek spent an enjoyable time at Luther Crest Bible Camp Women’s Week from the 24th-28th. Bernice Erdahl was one of the lefsa makers Monday. Mason Dunn from “xtereme camp” helped lead the Dining room grace Thursday. This year the women got to go zip-lining on the camp’s new high ropes course. On the way home they stopped in Hoffman to visit Marvel Wagner, who said to say “Hi!” to everyone. Jerry and Joan will be back at camp the 6th and 7th to assist with their annual Quilt Auction.
