Next edition: Oct 29th- Nov 4th Welcome to another version of the Donnelly news. Weather news; A few mornings of waking up with “frost on the pumpkin” and some cool days reminds us that fall has arrived. I suspect that by the time you read this most of the farmers in the area will have had all their crops picked and fall fieldwork done. STJ/KONG PARISH News: There will be joint services at Kong on Oct 30th at 11 am with the ss kids singing. St J beef supper will held on Nov 8th at the church beginning at 4:30 pm. GSLC news: Services are at 9 am followed by coffee hour. SS is at 10:30 and while the kids are in ss the adults have bible study in the sanctuary. First Lutheran of Morris will have a Scandinavian supper and silent auction on Nov 2 from 4-7 pm. Advance sale tickets are available at the church office Faith Lutheran will have a meatball supper on Nov 9th at the church The community Halloween party will be held on Oct 31st at the Donnelly hall beginning with games at 5:30 costume judging at 6 pm. Light lunch to follow everyone welcome for info call 246-3451 The st co gen soc will meet on Nov 3rd at 1:30 pm at the library. The Morris life care center will have an Italian dinner and silent auction on Nov 5th at the Assumption Catholic Church beginning at 4:30 pm free will donation Harriet Schwartz, of Alexandria formerly of Donnelly passed away on Oct 15th. Survivors include a grandson Greg (Naomi) Fynboh and their family of Donnelly Vern Eystad of Fergus Falls passed away on Oct 19th, survivors include his nephews’ Jamey (Kathy) Eystad; Lee (Duke) (Donna) Eystad and Robert (Bernie) and their families of Donnelly and a brother in law Don Bahr of Morris. He and his family like his brother Melvin and his family were also cattle truckers and when the Eystad family in Donnelly quit hauling cattle he took over their territory and when we quit the cattle business they were the ones that hauled them away. Roger Andersen of Garrison MN passed away on Sept 23rd. Survivors include his sister Barb (Lowell) Simpson and their family I received word last week that my mom’s cousin Dr. Harvey Larson of Bozeman MT passed away on Oct 18th. Andrew Huntley was born on May 2nd in Alex to Bret and Heidi Huntely; grandparents are Ken and Connie Wohlers Conner Daniel Werk was born on July 9th to Craig and Laura werk of Fargo, grandparents are Ken and Diane Werk Congratulations to McKenzie Smith who as a member of the mahs girls cc team finished 2nd at the Monte meet and won the girls meet at Benson as well as the wcc-south championship race. Congratulations to Ray and Tracy Nohl who recently won the regional MVP award from mycogen seeds Congratulations to the Morris FFA marketing team that earned a trip to the national FFA convention, Beth Holland is a member of that team. Congratulations to Samantha Larson who was chosen as junior attendant in the h-n homecoming court Congratulations to the Alberta wildlife trapshooting team that won the league championship at the 9-f sportsman club. Jim Neal is a member of that team. He, Gary and Ryan Smith were recognized for shooting 25 straight, Ryan was also recognized for shooting 50 straight Congratulations to the Morris area chapter of the bpa that recently earned a trip to wash dc for their presentation on teens and driving. Sydney Beyer is a member of that team Sami Searle, Rebekah and savannah Aanerud recently competed in the state 4-h horse show sept 16-19th and came home with a “boatload” of ribbons. Sami also won many ribbons at the reichert celebration horse show in Fort Worth TX on sept 8-11th. They are also members of the stampede 4-h club that won the community pride award and finished second in the window display. They are also members of the Rendsville 4-h club which finished runner up as club of the year. Many members of that club won awards at the 4-h awards show held at the wcroc auditorium on Oct. 8th too numerous to mention here. Details can be found in the Oct. 15th edition of the Morris s-t A good crowd was on hand on Oct 21st at Faith Lutheran in Morris for the LCM banquet. Oct 22nd I stopped into LL to visit my cousin Bev Hurlbult, on Oct 25th I visited some friends at the wwv. Oct 9th a good crowd was on hand for the Thrivent event at Faith. Wayne Grunklee and Alan Saugstad presented an update on Thrivent choice after lunch we enjoyed the comedy duo of the preacher and the teacher. Next edition: Oct 22nd-28th Welcome to another version of the Donnelly news. Weather news; the weather during the past week has been more fall like with some cool temps and cold winds. Most of the corn fields in the area have been harvested and many have also been worked up for the year. STJ/KONG PARISH News: the confirmation servant event of collecting clothes for churches united in Morehead will continue until Oct 29th. They are accepting clothing, towels sheets and blankets (do not need to be new) as well as new personal care items. They are also collecting non -perishable food items and financial donations for the Salvation Army. You may drop your items off at the parish office labeled for them. Light lunch to follow everyone welcome for info call 246-3451 An overflow crowd of friends and family were among those of us who attended the memorial service for John “Jack” Kleinhans on Oct 14 at St J. That eve many of us from the area attended the visitation for Irene Kill at the funeral home Walt Biesterfeld and I were among those who attended the meeting of the Morris area school board at the Donnelly hall on Oct 17th. Nathan Gerald Olson and Olivia Elaine Olson were born on July 25, 2011 at Albany to Tim and Shannon Olson of Albany. Grandparents are Jerry and Fran Altrich of Donnelly and Allen and Joyce Olson of Donnelly. Ron Wooldridge of Morris passed away on Oct 15th; among the family members that survive him are a sister Corrine Flatten and her family Josh Erdahl and Kayla Harstad were married on Oct 8th His parents are Steve and Sue Erdahl -Nelson grandmother is Bernice Erdahl her father is Jeff Harstad. Bryan Taffe and Becky Smith were united in marriage on July 23, 2011 at Faith Lutheran Church in Morris. The bride is the daughter of Richard and Suzanne Smith, grandmother is Pauline smith, Jim and Lou Eystad again helped out at the arc bazaar on Oct 19th. Since I have again spent most of the last week splitting my time between the farm and my new house there has not been much time to devote this column, I have just about finished moving so hopefully my life will settle down some and I can catch up on some news in the upcoming weeks.

Next edition: Oct 15th-21st Welcome to another version of the Donnelly news. I am still busy moving and getting things set up in my new house and catching up on some other jobs so have not had a lot of spare time to devote to this job. Weather news; there have been a few days with some rain showers during the past week but for the most part it has been sunny and warm. Farmers are busy picking corn; given the forecast I suspect most will be done in about a week or so. I understand that the corn is very dry when I talked to my neighbor on Sat he said they were hauling corn to town at 14%. I do understand that the bean harvest was only fair. .Correction: Mary Schultz has been hired to replace Peggy Wilke as Postmaster replacement not as postmaster STJ/KONG PARISH News: the confirmation servant event of collecting clothes for churches united in Morehead will continue until Oct 29th. At 4 pm will be amazing Mark vaudeville and magic show The red Hats will have a pie day at Denny’s in Herman on Oct 17th at 1:30 Dutch treat The Morris area school board will meet at the Donnelly Hall on Oct 19th at 7 pm I have five death notices this week: Former Donnelly area residents, Milo Prindle of Herman passed away on Sept 29th his funeral was held on Oct 8th, Don Huebner of Morris passed away on Oct 7th, William Braun of Morris passed away on Oct 8th, Irene Kill of Morris passed away on Oct 11th her funeral is today (sat) at Assumption in Morris. John (Jack) Kleinhans of Donnelly passed away on Oct 10th. Les Cin and I were among those who attended Don’s funeral at First Lutheran on Oct 11th in the eve Howard Hennen and I were among those who attended the visitation for Bill Braun at the funeral home Hudson Allen Lupkes was born on August 16, 2011 at Fairview Northland Hospital, Princeton, to Dr. Jason and Jessie Lupkes. Grandparents are Ralph and Diane Lupkes of Wheaton and Nick and Sandy Kill of Morris. Great-grandparents are Barb and Don Rilley of Chokio and Kermit and Karen Stahn of Morris. Great-great-grandmother is Marlys Alm of Morris. Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended the baptismal service for James Dean Koehl at GSLC on Oct 8th. His grandmother Janet Hacker was one of my Dad’s home help aides for several years. In the eve I attended the Thrivent financial for Lutherans event at Faith Lutheran The Donnelly community club had their last meeting of the year on Oct 10th the next meeting will be the annual one usually held in mid- Feb. It was another successful year for the club and the threshing bee. The pictures of the past queens that were posted in the depot last year are missing if anybody has them or knows what happened to them please let us know. Lou Kopel informs me that some members of the late Fred smith family were in the area last week visiting friends and family members and spent some at the Eddie Kopel farm on Sun. Since I still have a lot of stuff to get rid of I have decided to have another moving sale today (Sat) all day see the ad in today’s papers for details. Next edition: Oct 8th -14th Welcome to an abbreviated version of the Donnelly news. Due to preparations for my moving sale and the actual move I have not had time to write much this week hopefully next week I can catch up. A reminder that my moving sale is today (sat) if you missed my ad in last week’s paper I have some flyers up in Donnelly, Morris and Herman. As of this writing some of my trs and other things have already been sold. Weather news; Indian summer weather has continued for the past week enabling most farmers in the area to get most of their beans harvested and some have started pickinng corn . STJ/KONG PARISH News: St J will have their annual fall festival today (sat) from 10:30 am – 1 pm. There will be rummage, bake sale, raffle, lunch etc. There will be a special meeting for ST J members on Oct 9th following the 11 am service The Oct newsletter is now out extra copies are available in the narthex of each church GSLC news: Oct 16th is new member Sun. In addition to St J; Zion (Morris) and Our Savior’s (Chokio) are also having “fall festivals” today (sat) our newsletter, area papers; community and church bulletin boards list many other churches in the area are having some dinners, suppers, lunches and other events in the upcoming weeks too many to list here. At 4 pm will be amazing Mark vaudeville and magic show The preacher and the teacher comedy duo will be preforming at faith in Morris on Oct 9th at 6:30 pm. The event is sponsored by the st co chapter of Thrivent for Lutherans and will also an update on Thrivent choice dollars. There is no charge for this event. On Oct 10th @ 7 pm, the fireman will meet at the fire hall and the Donnelly com club will meet at the town hall. HD & CO will be open until 4 pm on Sat through the hunting season Nadine Heck oic at the Donnelly po announces the following changes at the po: Mary Schultz has been hired to replace Peggy Wilke as Postmaster replacement. Mary has agreed to come down to the po and lock it at 7 pm at night which means the lobby will be open later again. Rose Athey has replaced Bud Anderson who retired as rural mail carrier. Joan reports that Sunday the 2nd was peak color at the Kopacek farm it was the best in years.

Next edition: Oct 1st -7th Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news. Weather news; Indian summer has arrived with a lot of sunny warm weather during the past week. Bean harvest is in full swing in the area and some farmers have also been chopping corn for silage. . STJ/KONG PARISH News: There will be a work day in the Kong basement today (sat) at 9 am to finish cleaning the walls and paint them. The confirmation servant event churches united for the homeless in Moorhead has begun; you can bring items to the church from now until the event in Oct. For more info on acceptable items contact the parish office. If you have a cd of the Kong quartet concert that does not work anymore you can return it to parish office or Jeanne Ennen (with your name on it) and it will be redone for you at no charge. St J will have their annual fall festival on Oct 8th. They are looking for craft and white elephant items (new or nearly new) you can bring them to the church anytime between now and the 7th. There will be a special meeting for ST J members on Oct 9th following the 11 am service GSLC news: women of the word augustana dist. will have a gathering today (sat) at Christ the King Lutheran church in Hutchinson beginning at 9:30 am The fall grief share recovery seminar/support group continues at the Morris e free church in Morris on Mon eve, for more info call 589-2614 The following events are taking place today (sat) The SA is sponsoring a theme table brunch and silent auction/ quirky boutique beginning with table viewing at 9:30 am and Brunch at 10:30 am. Congratulations to Bryce Jergenson who was chosen as a sophomore attendant for the Mahs homecoming court and Kourtney Giese who was chosen as freshman attendant. Makenna Loge (Kevin and Shannon) was crown bearer, Sydney Byer and Kristi Kopel were queen candidates, and Jacob Moser was a king candidate. Brady Gillespie was a king candidate for c-a homecoming Congratulations to Landon and Levin Strand that recently earned their Boy Scout rifle and shotgun shooting badges The threshing bee royalty were among the participants in the mahs homecoming parade in Morris on Sept 23rd . After the parade I visited my aunt Pearl Anderson in her apt at the sunrise apts. Bennet Smith representing Sen. Amy Klobuchar’s office was one of the speakers at the dedication of second umm wind tribune on Sept 24th. Katie Geise (Brain and Holly) was one of the winners in the poster contest held in conjunction with the event. There were about 200 posters submitted. Jim and Lou ‘Eystad and I were among those who attended the play “godly women out of history” on Sept 25 at gslc and the community dinner at the sr. center on Sept 26th. After several years of discussion with my finical advisor, friends, family and others and a lot of thought and prayer I have made the very difficult decision to sell my farm, buy a house in Morris, and move there. Saying goodbye to the community that has been my home for over 56 years is very difficult but sometimes life forces you to do things you do not really want to. I will still be around attending various events in the Donnelly area and writing the Donnelly news. At least I will still have a part of Donnelly in Morris as my next door neighbors are Geo and Joyce Kramer. Please check out the ad in this paper about my moving sale next Sat. (Oct 8th) I should be living in my new house by mid Oct. I will have my new contact info next week however I will continue to keep my old contact info until the New Year.
