donnelly news

Welcome to another edition of the of the Donnelly news
Weather news some more rain showers during the past week were very welcome however some people experienced some hail damage on the 15th.
STJ/KONG News:  On Aug. 26 the parish will lead services under the big top tent at the threshing bee grounds; there will be no services at either church that day. Tom and Pearl Horning will be leading the music, and the vbs kids will be singing. There will be joint services at Kong on Sept 2nd at 10:15 am. This is a change from what was announced earlier. Services will be broadcast on KMRS that morning at 11 am
GSLC news: Alan Saugstad will have a presentation about his trip to Honduras following coffee hour on Aug 26th
 Fmsc packing event Aug. 28th, 29th, and 30th at the Morris area elementary cafeteria more info call Tammy Sperr 589-1729 gslc will help pack on Aug. 29th during the 12:30- to 2:30 pm shift
Pedersen funeral home will have their annual picnic of hope and healing on Aug 30th at 5:30 pm at the main shelter at Pomme De Park.
Denny Boursea of Donnelly passed away on Aug. 18th. Many from the area attended his visitation at the funeral home on Aug 20th and his funeral at St J on Aug 21st.
Cole Leon Smith was born on August 6 at Stevens Community Medical Center, Morris, to Christopher and Janelle Smith of Donnelly. Grandparents are Leon and Marilyn Smith of Donnelly and Leonard and Darlene Huot of Red Lake Falls. Great grandmother is Veronica Smith of Morris.

Aug 18th I traveled to Fergus Falls where I met Mark Koepke of West Fargo and brought him to stay at my place. He plans to stay until Sept 2nd visiting with friends in the area. He will be at the bee and other events in the area and would enjoy visiting with people from the area. You are also welcome to stop by my house to see him or call him here.
It was a case of many hands make light work on Aug. 21st as a good crew was on hand to help get things ready for the bee.
The Community Club is conducting a "Silent Auction" on Aug 26 near the Depot from 2 - 4 pm. This fundraiser is to support the upgrade for the Royalty float.  I have listed the names of those who have donated to it on my blog. She is still looking for pictures of former queens if you have any let her know.
A 2nd work night will be held on Aug. 28th at 6:30 pm to take things down and put them away. I can also use help to move the chairs from the tent to the depot on sun aft after the horse pull   Help of any kind by anybody  during, or after the bee is greatly appreciated all you need do is show up and we will put you to work
The threshing bee or as we refer to it our annual “family reunion" is this weekend I hope many of you are planning on coming to Donnelly to help us celebrate.  A “new” event this year a country school reunion; students who went to districts 7, 33, 37 meet under the big top tent after services on the 26th .This year’s feature is Oliver; the theme is “the “bee” something for everyone”.  The website is: donnellythreshingbee.com. Events start on Sat a.m. with the pancake breakfast, and they conclude in the eve with a dance by pure country at the Donnelly hall, the main event will be the tractor pull in the aft. Sun starts with an open air worship service and concludes with the cash drawing the main events are the parade and the horse pull. The area churches will again be serving food on both days ,there will be exhibits  in the school house and depot, activities on both days including  threshing, horseshoe tournament, flea market etc. ;demonstrations ( log sawing ,shingle making etc.)  Anyone who wishes to do a demonstration, bring an exhibit(s), share some talent, i.e. play and sing etc. is welcome to do so. You can just show up or call one of the people listed on the poster.  The officers will again be wearing special caps and shirts the headquarters is still the depot, talk to whoever is behind the desk for more info, the phone # in the depot 246-3272
I know there is at least one rummage sale in town, a bike ride, and there may also be other events around town during the weekend.  
 the last parade of the year for the threshing bee royalty was the corn fest one in Ortonville unfortunately due to car trouble I did not get down to see it.  As always they did a great job representing Donnelly during the last year     
I am planning on having my  golf cart on the grounds again this year for use by handicapped individuals

DONNELLY NEWS

Weather news: Fri and Tue evenings have brought some welcome rains; the rest of the week has been sunny and dry. Some of the garden produce I saw the Glenwood fair sure looked fantastic

GSLC news: VBS will be held on Aug 15th and 22nd beginning with a pot luck supper at 5:30 pm. the main dish and beverages will be furnished please bring a side dish For more info about vbs call the church at 585-6868
The Thrivent picnic will be held on Aug. 15th at Pomme De Park at 5:30 pm more info 589-1731
There will be an all-day fund raiser at the Pizza ranch in Morris on Aug. 13th for “feed my starving children”. A portion of the proceeds and tips from 11 am-2 pm and 5-8 pm will go to help with expenses for the packing event later this month.
On Aug. 13th the Donnelly community club and the fireman will meet at 7 pm at city hall and fire hall
There will be a meet the candidates for the threshing bee royalty at the Donnelly hall on Aug 15th at 7:30 pm
There will be an open house at the Morris sr center from 3-6 pm on Aug. 16th
Natalie Janae Zimenova was born on June 30th at Douglas County Hospital to Roman Zimen and Janet Zimenova. Grandparents are Merlyn and Angie Schwartz, of Donnelly.
Carter Daniel Erickson was born on June 16 at St. Cloud Hospital, to Dan and Jammie Erickson of Albany. Grandparents are Ron and Sue Wevley and Mark and Deb Erickson, all of Donnelly. Great-grandmothers are Liz Ascheman, Esther Wevley and Evelyn Raasch. There will be a baby shower for him Aug. 18th from 10 am-noon in the gazebo at the prairie inn in Morris and he will be baptized at Kong on the 11th.
There will be an open house bridal shower for Amy Gerber, bride to be of Blake Heinrich today (Sat) from 10 a.m. to noon in the Gazebo at the Prairie Inn, Morris. Blake is the son of Scott and Beth Heinrich of Morris, his grandmother is Lillian Heinrich they will be married on Sept 15 at the Heinrich farm by Donnelly
  Marion Raasch of Morris passed away on Aug. 1st survivors include a niece Deb (Mark) Erickson and their family of Donnelly.
Lowell Christians of Herman passed away on Aug. 4th survivors include his sister Brenda (Jeff) Volker and their family.

Congratulations to Mike Cihak who was recently   installed as an officer of the Morris Eagles

Congratulations to Morris VFW auxiliary pres. Joan Kopacek who was given an award for outstanding auxiliary achievements at 5th dist. VFW meeting in Benson on July 18th, the auxiliary itself also won several awards.
Congratulations to Ashley Mecklenburg who graduated from Alex Tech earlier this year
Congratulations to the Morris American Legion bb team that finished in 2nd place in the dist. legion tournament, the VFW bb team finished in third place at their tournament.
Congratulations to Dave Lonergan who was recently named fair person of the year for 2012 for dist. 7. He has been on the st co fair board for 31+ years
Denny Anderson is now in the Starbuck home having had an operation to remove a brain tumor last week (it was cancerous).  I talked to him on the phone on Wed eve he was in good spirits although he tires easily and said to tell everybody thanks for all their prayers and get well wishes.  His ph. # is 239-7164. The threshing bee royalty were in the flekkefest parade in el on Aug. 4th, the highlight of the parade was the appearance of the U of MN marching band.

The Donnelly threshing bee is Aug. 25 and 26th this week I will highlight the sat activities next wk. sun. They begin with a pancake feed at 7 a.m., followed by a sb tournament, kiddie parade, tr. pull, queen coronation and concluding with a dance at the hall featuring “pure country” at 8 pm. There will also be a lot of activities both days i.e. horseshoe tournament, lumber sawing, threshing, etc. displays in the schoolhouse and depot, and the area churches will again be serving food on the grounds. New this year is a smoke house sponsored by the Dfd
The Community Club is conducting a "Silent Auction" on Aug 26 near the Depot from 2 - 4 pm. DONNELLY NEWS

Welcome to another edition of the of the Donnelly news
Weather news: the past week has been hot and dry, although thankfully not as hot as it has been. I talked to a friend who helped combine some wheat and said the crop was fantastic. Corn and beans continue to look good although they do need some good rains. I see the wheat for the bee has been shocked and is standing in the field.
STJ/KONG News: there will be joint services at st j @ 8:30 am on Aug 12th
The newest member of our parish is Keason Cihak (Mike and Jenny) who was baptized at Kong on July 29th; grandparents are Glen and Judy Heinrichs
GSLC news: VBS will be held on Aug. 8th 15th and 22nd beginning with a pot luck supper at 5:30 pm. the main dish and beverages will be furnished please bring a side dish
The church is now putting out a monthly newsletter you can elect to receive it by e-mail or mail

On Aug. 6th the red hatters will meet at 1 pm at the place to be in Donnelly the bookmobile will be in town at 3:30 pm the city council and Rendsville 4-h will meet at 7 pm in the city and fire halls

Congratulations to the Morris American Legion team that finished in 2nd place in the dist. 7 legion tournament, the VFW team finished in third place at their tournament.

My cousin Bev Hurlbut passed away on July 29th.  Many family and friends attended her visitation at the funeral home on Aug. 1st and her funeral at Kong on Aug 2nd
I was among those who took in the umm green tour on July 27th ,later I visited Irene Strand at the heritage apts. and in the evening watched the Irondale band performance at big cat stadium.

July 28th a good crowd was on hand for the 2nd annual block party at the threshing bee grounds, the rod and gun club beat the fireman in sb, and Maynard Mau and Doug Cardwell won the bean bag tournament.
A busy summer is coming to an end for our threshing bee royalty with only a few parades left. On July 29th they were part of the Waterema parade in Glenwood.  Afterwards I watched part of the bald eagle water ski show. Enroute home I stopped to visit a friend in the Minnewaska home and Darlene Christoferson and Inga Mae Urke at their homes in starbuck.
July 30th Andy Brevig, Steve Fults, and I were among those who attended the st co rep party central committee mtg at Detoy’s.  The next meeting is tentatively scheduled for Aug. 27th. Anyone willing to sit in the republican booth at the st co fair call Laura Carrington at 589-1999, earlier in the day I visited my aunt Pearl Anderson at the WWV.
