Aug 18th I
traveled to Fergus Falls where I met Mark Koepke of West Fargo and brought him
to stay at my place. He plans to stay until Sept 2nd visiting with friends in
the area. He will be at the bee and other events in the area and would enjoy
visiting with people from the area. You are also welcome to stop by my house to
see him or call him here.
It was a case
of many hands make light work on Aug. 21st as a good crew was on hand to help
get things ready for the bee.
The
Community Club is conducting a "Silent Auction" on Aug 26 near the
Depot from 2 - 4 pm. This fundraiser is to support the upgrade for the Royalty
float. I have listed the names of those
who have donated to it on my blog. She is still looking for pictures of former
queens if you have any let her know.
A 2nd work
night will be held on Aug. 28th at 6:30 pm to take things down and
put them away. I can also use help to move the chairs from the tent to the
depot on sun aft after the horse pull Help
of any kind by anybody during, or after
the bee is greatly appreciated all you need do is show up and we will put you
to work
The
threshing bee or as we refer to it our annual “family reunion" is this
weekend I hope many of you are planning on coming to Donnelly to help us
celebrate. A “new” event this year a
country school reunion; students who went to districts 7, 33, 37 meet under the
big top tent after services on the 26th .This year’s feature is
Oliver; the theme is “the “bee” something for everyone”. The website is: donnellythreshingbee.com. Events
start on Sat a.m. with the pancake breakfast, and they conclude in the eve with
a dance by pure country at the Donnelly hall, the main event will be the tractor
pull in the aft. Sun starts with an open air worship service and concludes with
the cash drawing the main events are the parade and the horse pull. The area
churches will again be serving food on both days ,there will be exhibits in the school house and depot, activities on
both days including threshing, horseshoe
tournament, flea market etc. ;demonstrations ( log sawing ,shingle making etc.) Anyone who wishes to do a demonstration,
bring an exhibit(s), share some talent, i.e. play and sing etc. is welcome to
do so. You can just show up or call one of the people listed on the poster. The officers will again be wearing special
caps and shirts the headquarters is still the depot, talk to whoever is behind
the desk for more info, the phone # in the depot 246-3272
I know there
is at least one rummage sale in town, a bike ride, and there may also be other events
around town during the weekend.
the last parade of the year for the threshing
bee royalty was the corn fest one in Ortonville unfortunately due to car
trouble I did not get down to see it. As
always they did a great job representing Donnelly during the last year
I am planning
on having my golf cart on the grounds
again this year for use by handicapped individuals
