Lois Loher of Morris passed away on June 26th. among her survivors is a son Jerry (Jody)Loher and family of Donnelly visitation is June 29th 4-8 pm at the funeral home funeral is June 30th at 10:30 am at Assumption Catholic Church Morris.

Next edition June 26thth –July 2nd

Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news.
Weather news: The weather continues to be ideal for the crops sunny warm weather and good rains. The crops are looking good esp. the small grains and corn (which is already knee high) although the beans could use more sunshine. Farmers are busy spraying and putting up hay.
STJ/KONG PARISH NEWS: There will joint services at St J on June 27th at 8:30 am

On July 4th there will be joint services with Holy Communion at Kong at 10:30 am; followed by a flag raising ceremony, and a pot luck dinner. Note this is a change from what was announced earlier.

West Central Lutherans invites you to another open worship service at the Hancock community center at 10 am on June 27th. Weekly services begin on July 11th at the cougar room in the prairie inn in Morris at 9 am

There will be an LCMC meeting at the Hoffman community center on June 28th at 6:30 pm, hosted by Rev Dave Gram. For more info call 320.762.2684

The all state Lutheran choir is currently on tour in the state. They will be in Ortonville on June 27th and Glenwood on June 28th

WAM will not meet in July; the next meeting will be in Aug.

There will be women’s SB games at Aanerud field on June 28th at 7 pm and on July 1 @ 7:15 pm The Rendsville 4-h will be manning the concession stand.

Irene Erlandson of Morris passed away on June 19. A daughter Cheryl Beebe of Donnelly is among the family that survives her.

Byron Holman of Donnelly passed away on June 21st. survivors include his wife Shirley (Anderson) and her family

To Becca Holland for winning the presidential award for physical fitness at MAES and also for winning the One on 0ne contest, being part of the winning team in the three on three contest & placing third in the dribble competition, at the girls bb camp held in Morris recently

To Levin Strand who won or placed in almost all the 5th grade events he participated in at the H-N elementary track and field event on May 21st.

After church on June 20th several of us had a chance to visit with Jerry Boerner of NJ who was in the area visiting family and friends.

Kensington had a beautiful day for their runestone day’s parade on June 20th. Our threshing bee royalty were participants in it along with Bennet Smith and his family. He is running for Minn. House dist 11a. After the parade it was off to the TR pull for a while where I visited with David and Jullete Jergenson of Cyrus. Enroute home I took in the ice cream social at Solem Lutheran church of rural Keng.

June 16th I took in the open house at Morris chiropractic enroute home I stopped to visit Denny Anderson

June 17th I visited Burton Stand and Bill Underwood at the WWV

Two good Little League games were played at Aanerud field in Donnelly this week. Playoffs begin next week in Morris

About 60 men attended the men’s health night at SCMC on June 22nd

On June 23rd many family and friends attended the visitation for Byron Holman at the Pederson funeral home. Earlier in the day I took in the open house at Total Mortgage solutions.

Kristi Larson spent some time over the weekend visiting her parents Don and Algene and other family and friends in the area.

A Bridal shower for Adam Erickson bride to be of Katie Braaten will be held today (Sat) from 10-11:30 am at the Kong parish Hall

There will be an open house bridal shower for Amber Kruize, bride to be of Scott Melberg, today Saturday, from 9 to 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Hall in Chokio and from 1-3 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Morris. Her parents are Brain and Peg, grandparents Harry and Corrine and Nancy and Glen Knopp and Art and Carol Durkee

WCMCA is looking for volunteers to help out with their group work camp coming up in mid July as well as ladders they can use for the week. For more info call 1-800-492-4805

Pete Schmidt of Duluth passed away on June 6th. Family members that survive him include a niece Lisa (Mike) Melchert
Lori Backman and Craig Eveslage are pleased to announce their engagement. Parents of the couple are Doug and Carol Backman of Alberta, and Dan and Rita Eveslage of Greenwald, her grandmother is Liz Aschman.
An open house bridal shower for the couple will be held on Saturday, June 26 from 9-11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Chokio.
Madelyn Kay Raths was born May 30, 2010 Norfolk, Va. to Brian and Michelle Raths of Norfolk, Va. Grandparents are Robert and LeAnn Raths of Fergus Falls and Scott and Char Beckland of Millville. Great grandparents are Irene Raths of Morris formerly of Donnelly and Allenor Goddard of Farmington, formerly of Morris.
I have one more grad to recognize Cody Amundson (WCA) his parents are Gary and Diane grandfather is Cliff Bjorlin.

Congratulations to Levin Strand for winning a perfect attendance record at the H_N School. He also won a spelling award
Congratulations to Samantha Larson, Paige and Landon Strand for receiving green hand awards for the H-N FFA
Congratulations to the 13 u baseball team which recently won the Alex tournament and thus qualified for a berth in the state tournament to be held in Marshall 7/23-25. Vance Gullickson is their coach his son Bo and Riley Biesterfeld (Kathi says his name was omitted from the picture in the paper) are members of that team
The 14 u team is also headed to their state tournament in Austin on July 23-25th after winning the Marshal tournament. Bryce Jergenson is a member of that team his dad Rob is the coach.
Tyler Rouske and the MAHS Track team concluded a very successful season by winning the section tournament at Concordia and competing in the state tournament
Congratulations to Nicole Gillespie who won a society of women engineers for outstanding achievement in science and math award. She was also named to the pheasant conf all conf SB team and won an all state academic award.
On June 9th several members of the Don Com club got together to power wash the depot on the Threshing bee grounds in preparations for getting it painted.
On June 10th after attending part of the center for small towns’ symposium at umm I had an opportunity to talk to David Flugel and he was very pleased with the turn out for both days.
In the eve it was off the Kiwanis talent show. Jordan Nieland, Jerry Sander and John Franey were the winners
June 12th Verle and Della Dunn and I took in the Rincke auction in Morris, afterwards it was off to Chokio for the community picnic parade. Our threshing Bee royalty were participants as was Kendra Speer who is the area pork ambassador. The Cyrus parade was cancelled due to rain.
In the eve I took in the visitation for Earnest Beir at the funeral home then it was off to heartland motors for the retirement open house for Bill Dripps.
After church at Kong on June 13th I had an opportunity to visit with my former neighbor Arne Sather.
6/13 Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended the WC Lutheran worship service in Hancock on June 12th and also the gospel sing along at the Eden reformed church in Herman in the eve. Afterwards I visited with Selma Bruse at the Pullman house.
Two good games of Little League bb were played in Donnelly on June 14 and 15th. Prior to the game on the 15th I took in the open house at Anderson Acres of rural Alberta.
Joan Kopeck and Howard Hennen were among those who predicated in the Flag Day program on June 14th.
As I have stated before one of the “perks’ of doing this job is hearing from various former Donnelly area residents. The latest was Dr Howard Larson. He lives in Idaho and has been “partially” retired since ‘91

Weather news: The weather has been virtually a repeat of last week with mild temps and several rain showers; so far the crops are looking good.

STJ/KONG PARISH NEWS: The June parish newsletter is now out and extra copies are available in the narthex of ea church.



The summer worship schedule is now in effect. Copies of the summer schedule were included in the May newsletter and are posted at ea church and extra copies are available at the parish office



Ivor Aal says thanks for the very generous offering received for the Gideon’s on June 6th. If you were not in church and wish to make a donation to the Gideon’s you can mail it to box 142 Glenwood MN.



West Central Lutherans invites you to another open worship service at the Hancock community center at 10 am on June 13th. In July weekly services will begin at the prairie Inn’s cougar room in Morris. Fund raising is under way to purchase land move the Good shepherd Lutheran church building from rural Appleton to Morris.

Congratulations go out this week to the Lyrical Trio dancers who won the Kiwanis talent show on June 5th. Beth Holland and Sydney Beyer are members of that trio.

Tom Holland and Michael Michaelson received their Eagle Scout awards in a ceremony held Sunday at the First Lutheran Church in Morris.





Many friends and family were on hand for the visitation of DeWayne Mickelson at the funeral home on June 5th and his funeral at Assumption on June 6th.



The Kopacek family and I were among the members that attended the Agralite annual meeting in Benson on June 5th.



Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended the WAM meeting at St J of rural Starbuck on June 5th. The next meeting will be on Aug. 7th at Trinity in Benson, there will be no meeting in July. En route to the meeting I stopped by Frank’s annual rummage sale in Donnelly.



Many family and friends were on hand for the memorial service for Kurt Kruize on June 6th at the H. S. gym in Hancock.



Danny and Mark Frank, Laurie Hoffer, and Gail Gibson and family spent some time this weekend helping out with the annual family rummage sale and visiting family and friends in the area.



Pearl Amundson spent some time this week visiting her brother Chester (Gloria) Larson and other family and friends in the area.



A good crowd was on hand on June 7th for the Little League game at Aanerud field, the ladies SB game afterwards and the ice cream social at the hall. Thanks to the threshing bee royalty for serving the ice cream and the Rendsville 4-h for all the delicious they made and sold. After the social it was time for the monthly meeting of the Don Com club as we continue to make plans for the threshing bee and upkeep and maintenance of our buildings.

The weather has remained mild. A shot of rain over the weekend helped some, but we could use some more. So far the crops that are up are looking good.

In news from the St. John’s/Kongsvinger parish: Parish Bible study will meet at 7 p.m. June 8 at Kongsvinger.

On June 6, 13, and 20, services will be at Kongsvinger at 8:30 a.m. and St. John’s at 10:15 a.m.

June 5 is Gideon Sunday in our parish. A representative of the Gideons will give a message and receive an offering.

West Central Word Alone will meet at St. John's Lutheran Church of rural Starbuck today (Saturday). Coffee is at 9:30 a.m. and the program at 10 a.m.

West Central Lutherans will have another open worship service on June 10 at 10 a.m. at the Hancock Community Center.

The Red Hatters will meet June 7 at 9 a.m. at Sax’s CafĂ©.

The Donnelly Community Club will meet on June 7 at the community hall.

A memorial service for Kurt Kruize will be held at the Hancock H.S. gym at 1:30 p.m. on June 6.

There will be Little League games at Aanerud Field in Donnelly at 6 p.m. on June 7, 8, 14, 15, 21 and 22.

The Center for Small Towns and Minnesota Rural Partners will host the Symposium on Small Towns June 9 and 10 on the UMM campus. For more information, call David Fluegel at 589-6451.

Brooke Anderson, daughter of Lonnie and Pat, granddaughter of Denny Anderson; graduated from Morris Area High School.

Jessica Daly, daughter of Pat and Dee, granddaughter of Nick and Karen; graduated from Morris Area High School.

Jen Lesmeister, daughter of Tom and Roxanne, granddaughter of Verle and Della Dunn and Eugene Lesmeister, graduated from the University of Minnesota, Morris.

DeWayne Michaelson passed away on May 30. He was a member of our Threshing Bee “family” for many years.

Congratulations go out this week to: Corrine Flaten (conductress) Joan Kopacek (trustee, color bearer), Jerri Kopacek (color bearer) and Liz Ascheman (trustee # 3) who were recently elected as officers of the VFW Auxiliary in Morris.

Wyatt Vara recently earned a Point of Light badge from the Morris Cub Scouts.

The Morris 8th grade baseball team recently won the Mitch Kleidl Memorial Tournament in Wheaton. Bo Gullickson, Brady Jergenson, Riley Biesterfeld and Gage Backman are members of that team.

Brandon Pry was named to the 9th and 10th grade honors band.

Nicole Gillespie won 2nd place in the visual arts competition at Chokio-Alberta High School.

Samantha and Hannah Larson earned a gold and silver medal at the state FCCLA convention. Sam earned the right to compete at the national convention in Chicago in July.

Joe Blysacyk was named employee of the month at Larson’s Inc. of Elbow Lake. He is the son-in-law of Roger and Betty Werk.

Kelli Pry, Mindy Parker, and Dylan Recker were recently named winners of the MSHSL art awards at Morris Area High School.

Tyler Roske and the rest of the MAHS track team have been very successful in several meets lately. They won the true team meet in Paynesville which qualified them for the state meet, where they placed 2nd. They also won their conference and the subsection meets. Tyler was a member of the 4x200 relay team that won first place at the state meet and the 4x100 relay team which placed 2nd in the conference meet. He also finished 2nd in the 200 at the Paynesville meet.

After attending some of the city-wide rummage sales on May 21, I stopped in to visit my aunt Pearl A. Anderson. On May 23, we attended the graduation brunch for Mikell Dunn at Kongsvinger Church.

On May 25, I visited my aunt, Pearl (Albert) Anderson in the hospital. Enroute home, I stopped in Donnelly to take in the Little League game.

Michael Eble gave a presentation on “Seeing Modern Art” as part of the Learning Unlimited event at the Morris Senior Center on May 26.

Afterwards I again visited my aunt Pearl in the hospital. Enroute home I stopped in to visit Lou Eystad at her home in Donnelly.

A good crowd was on hand for the retirement party for Stevens County Coordinator Jim Thoreen on May 27.

That evening, I took in the visual arts show at the MAHS gym.

Enroute home I stopped at my aunt Pearl’s house to talk to my cousin Bev and express my sympathy on Pearl’s passing. Her funeral was held June 1 at Kongsvinger.

Enroute to Morris on May 29, I stopped in to visit with my cousin Bev and her family. Later a good crowd was on hand at the Janachovsky farm to help Mark and Karen celebrate their 50th birthdays.

On June 1, the Kopacek family and I attended the Delaware Mutual annual meeting at the Herman American Legion.

On May 29, Corrine Larson was in Blaine, Minn. to help grandson Christian Weispfenning celebrate his first birthday. Others in attendance at the birthday party included Ryan, Anna and William Weispfenning, Beth Larson, Bill and Diane Weispfenning, Mike Weispfenning, Jan and Roger Halverson, the Kregg Weispfenning family, Mike Webster family and Vickie Opel. Christian turned one on May 24.
