Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news:

Weather news: bare fields, Sidewalks, streets etc.;  are signs that spring is not too far away, temps have been fairly mild the past week, although most days have featured some cold winds

St John’s/Kongsvinger news:  Lenten services will again alternate between Kongsvinger Mar 2nd and St John’s Mar 9th at 7 p.m. with coffee hr. to follow

KONGSVINGER EASTER LILY MEMORIAL GARDEN – The signup sheet to order Easter lilies is up in the narthex at Kongsvinger. Please indicate the number of lilies you wish to purchase and the memorial/honoree information. The cost of the lilies will be $12.50 each – payable to KLCW. If you have questions, please contact Deb Erickson or Cork Loge. There is also a signup sheet for St. John’s at the church too (same price) contact the church office for more info

The youth will go tubing at Andes tower hills on Feb. 28th at 1 p.m., members of the community are invited to join the fun Sign up at church or call the church at 585-6868



Other church news: WEST CENTRAL CHRISTIAN HOMES, INC. will have their Annual Meeting on Sunday, February 28, 2016, at 1:30 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Morris, MN. All delegates are urged to attend.

Glacial Ridge Conference Assembly (ELCA) will be held on March 13th at Our Redeemers, Hancock beginning with registration at 1:30p.m.

Community news: The Bookmobile will be in town on Main Street in Donnelly on Feb 29th from 3:45-4 p.m.

Former Donnelly area resident Ruth Strand will be celebrating her 100th birthday on Mar. 5th at the sunrise apartments (6 Thomas Street) in Morris from 2-5 p.m. everyone welcome no gifts please

Precinct caucuses will take place on Mar 1st at 7 p.m.; all of the precincts in Stevens county will meet in one location; hotel 200 (tiger room) (republicans); old # 1 Southside (dfl)

Stevens  county genealogical society will meet on Mar. 3rd @ 1:30 p.m. @ the library

The 2016 rta phone directories are now out extra copies are available hd and co Donnelly.

Township annual meeting and elections will he held on Mar 8th at various locations. Most voting is from 5-8 p.m. with meetings at 4 p.m. check with your local county auditor office for specific meeting places and times 

The Donnelly city council and rendsville 4—h will meet in Donnelly at the city hall and St. John’s Lutheran church on Mar 7th at 7 p.m.

Celebrations: Lacey Jo Fahl and Brian Luke Harstad of Morris are happy to announce they are engaged to be married on October 15, 2016, at the West Pomme Lodge near Morris, Minnesota. Parents of the couple are Sherri and Jonathan Fahl of Benson, Minnesota, and Jane and Gordon Harstad of Morris.

Tiger gymnastics: The Tigers were honored as the STATE GYMNASTICS CLASS 'A' ACADEMIC TEAM CHAMPION for 2016. The Team GPA Average is an impressive 3.960.

Knight wrestling: in the section 6A individual tournament Keaton Long won first place at 145 lbs., and is wrestling in the state tournament, this weekend in St. Paul.

Xavier running hawk is a member of The Morris youth wrestling team that won another tournament in New London Spicer recently

FFA officers Becca Holland Jonna Moser, Savannah Aanerud ,Savannah also received region 3 sec other awards she won include being part of the ag communications team that placed 2nd at the state convention and first in the regional cde in extemporaneous speaking and will compete at the state level Beth Holland earned an American decree at nationals her sister Becca ,Savannah  and Jonna  competed in proficiency areas at completed applications and then interviewed at the regional level   they placed first and will advance to the state, Becca and Jonna will receive state degrees this spring

Mark Koepke and I were among those who attended the visitation for Alice Jaeck at the Pederson funeral home on Feb 18th. His foster Dad used to work for her foster son Harvard Jaeck at the Donnelly co-op

Past week: visitation and funeral for Todd Hovendick at funeral home and GSLC, “stork bus” fundraiser at Pizza Ranch, Lenten services at Gs.

Weather news: a very cold weekend has given way to a mild week. Had some snow on Sun enough to bring out the snow removal equipment again

Group youth camps will be coming to Herman this summer deadline to apply for work is the end of the month. More info 1-800-492-4805 this is the org that built a ramp and deck for my dad on the farm

Death notices: Sylvia Volker of Herman passed away on Feb.6th ;her sister in law Lenora Volker of Herman passed away on Feb 11th.most of the Volker’s that are living and/or have lived in the Donnelly area are among the family members that survive the ladies
Oliver Christiansen of Morris passed away on Feb. 13th survivors include his sister former Donnelly area resident Lyla (Les) Cin of Glenwood.
Alice Hickman Jaeck of Morris passed away on Feb.16th  survivors include her niece Sue Sax of Donnelly ; stepson  Harvard Jaeck of Mapleton Mn and sister in law Rosie Sax of Elbow Lake ;Rosie and Harvard are former Donnelly area residents
Celebrations: Keaton Long is a member of the Knights wrestling team that won the section 6A wrestling tournament and is headed back to the state again
Bo Gullickson of Morris was named to the 2015 fall semester dean's list at the University OF North Dakota.
Tiger gymnastics: section 8A tournament: team: 5th place; gold award for academic achievement; for the third year in a row, they were named section 8 academic champions. The cumulative GPA for the Tigers, averaging 14 gymnasts’ GPAs, was 3.96. coach Olberg was named District 8 coach of the year ;  Savannah Aanerud: vault 8.8, 12th Place; bars 8.8, 12th Place; beam 8.3 14th Place; Floor: 8.7 12th Place; All – Around: 33.7 10th Place; Katie Giese vault 7.9 36th Place  beam 7.05 27th Place
Morris area elementary school students of the month include: 2nd grade Hunter Smith, 3rd Justin Miller & Cassandra Fults 6th Jackson Loge, Hope Sperr
Feb 13th girl’s bb player of the game: Becca Holland
Tiger swimming: conference championship:  Levin Strand was part of the 200 medley team that finished 5th, 200 free medley that finished 5th, and he finished 10th personally in the 100 back stroke; vs. Detroit Lakes he was part of the 200 medley team that finished 3rd and he finished 4th in the 100 backstroke
The tiger youth wrestling team won the Benson dual tournament recently, Zavier Running Hawk was a member of that team
Past week Rusc quarter kraze at Legion, girls/boy bb doubleheader at MAHS, pancake breakfast at gslc, visitation and funeral for Eddie Kopel, at assumption, visitation for Oliver Christiansen at funeral home, midweek Lenten services @GSLC

Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news:
Weather news after several weeks of fairly mild weather it has turned cold again Mon brought some snow and strong winds causing difficult driving conditions
St John’s/Kongsvinger news:  Lenten services will again alternate between Kongsvinger Feb 17th and St John’s Feb 24th at 7 p.m. with coffee hr. to follow
On the third Wednesday of the month (February 17), Youth Club will meet at St. John’s Church from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m.

There will be a Valentine’s day breakfast after services on Feb. 14th at the church, the youth will go tubing at Andes tower hills on Feb. 28th at 1 p.m. Sign up at church or call the church at 585-6868

Brooke Gillespie was named to the honor roll at Chokio Alberta h.s. she is a junior there; she was also named rookie Auctioneer of the year in Minn.; the youngest person ever to win this award, she also received a cert of service from the school for her volunteer work.

Brady cardwell is a member of the tiger wrestling team that finished 3rd in their own invitational on Feb. 5th,Keaton Long is a member of the knights wrestling team that finished 2nd in the same invitational, he recorded his 75th win there of his career

Feb 6th-12th

Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news:

 Weather news weather has been fairly mild thankfully we missed the big snow storm that hit other parts of the state we only got a few inches
St John’s/Kongsvinger news: Ash Wed services on Feb. 10th at   St. John’s. @ 7 pm with coffee fellowship to follow services will again alternate between Kongsvinger and St John’s every Wed.   until Holy week

On the third Wednesday of the month (February 17), Youth Club will meet at St. John’s Church from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. and is open to all children in our community. Caring adults and older youth are encouraged to lend a hand - we will find something for you to help with. All area children are welcome to attend.
Good shepherd news. No Tue a.m. Bible study until after Easter
Lenten services start with ash wed services on Feb 10th at 7 p.m. and continue ever Wed at that time until Holly week.

Other church news: friends of the Morris life care pregnancy center will have a fund raising night at the Pizza ranch on Feb 21st from 5-8 p.m.

There will be +Super Bowl Party on Sunday, February 7th at 4:00p.m. At FAITH LUTHERAN-Morris; All 6th thru 12th graders are invited!
From faith –Morris February 10 The Sunday School students (Kindergarten—6th grade) and families will be serving the Ash Wednesday meal at 5:15 p.m.—come support the students.

There will be a Valentine's Day Tea on Friday, February 12th from 2:00-4:00 p.m. in the First Lutheran Fellowship Hall. 
No “Burgers, beverages and a blessing” until after Easter.

Benefit for Donna Haugen of Milan today (Sat.) from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at Kviteseid Lutheran   church (308 North Third Street) in Milan. She is Jeanne Ennen’s sister in law and has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer
