Thanks to Leo overson for this bit of Donnelly history: Hi Donnelly Kids,
Well, it is the 100th anniversary of the great Donnelly fire that did so much damage to the town. Most of Main Street was taken out.
My grandparents, Gus and Emma Overson, moved to Donnelly just a year before with their children, Clinton 9, Rubin 7, Florence 5, and Raymond 2.
They were originally from the Glenwood area and got married in 1904. They lived in Glenwood, Appen N. D. and Beardsley before moving to Donnelly.
In Beardsley they owned and operated a mercantile store along with his business partner Mr. Iver Roan. In 1915 they heard there was a store available in Donnelly so they made the move .Mr. and Mrs. Roan also came to Donnelly and they were in business in Donnelly for many years. There first store was on main street where the Phillips 66 gas station was later.
Their residence was next to the store. They lost most everything in the fire.
In 1917 they built a new store and were there for many years. Overson and Roan retired in 1954 but their store still stands today as HD & Co.
Grandpa Gus died in 1965 and Grandma Emma died in 1967.
Thanks for reading this little bit of Donnelly history on the 100th anniversary. November 2, 2016. Leo Overson.
