In St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news: There will be joint services at St John’s on Aug 31st at 9 a.m. Rally Sunday will be on Sept 7th with ss at 9:45 and services at 11 a.m. at St John’s.
St Charles –Herman fall festival is on Sept 7th
Sept 8th city council, Rendsville 4-h and Community club will meet at 7 p.m. at various locations in Donnelly.
Stevens County Genealogical society will be meeting on Sept 4th @ 1:30 pm at the west wing village room 108
Celebrations: There will be an open house bridal shower in honor of Ashli Kramer, bride to be of Robert Johnson, today (Saturday) from 10 a.m. to noon at the Morris Senior Center, her parents are Ray and Roni Kramer, grandmother is Joyce Kramer

Kathleen Henrichs, of Huntley, Montana passed away on Aug 20th survivors include her brother former Donnelly area resident Delbert (Alice) Henrichs of New Richmond, Wiis.
Duane Cardwell of Graceville passed away on Aug 24th survivors include his son Doug (Muriel) Cardwell and family of Donnelly.
9-f sportsman club results 1st place Alberta wild (Jim Neal was a member of that team) 2nd place Moose Island raiders; 25 & 50 (2x) straight shooters included Ryan Smith
New threshing bee royalty are Queen Sam Greiner; Princess Makayla Mau, little Miss Donnelly Hailey Lesimeister; princess is Kayla Mau.  Traveling parade trophy went to Fults repair (Joey Fults) of Alberta. Grand marshal of the parade was Bernice Erdahl
Other than moving the church services indoor all other threshing bee activities went on as scheduled despite some off and on  rain showers during the day on Saturday ,thankfully the heavy rains held off until we were done on Sat eve.  Good to see a lot of familiar faces around the grounds again especially some of the former Donnelly area residents that were home for it. My cart developed problems so I did not get around the grounds as much as I would like to have to see people. Reminder next year we will be celebrating our 50th on Aug. 29th and 30th and featuring everything made in 1965. I was among those who helped with taking down fences and putting things away on Aug 26th.
Again this year I helped out   at the feed my starving children packing event at the Morris area Elementary school cafeteria. It was again a reminder of how blessed we are in the USA compared to other countries and how a few hours of time can make a huge difference in the lives of children overseas.
John Ruff and his daughters Shawna Ruff and   Deb Goeke all of TX left for home Monday after spending some time visiting John’s sister Lou Eystad and other family and friends  in the area and attending the bee
Some others that I saw that spent some time visiting family and friends and attending the bee over the weekend were Odell and Joann (Frank) Christianson, Gayle Gibson and family, Mark and Dan Frank ;Laurie Hofer Dennis and Glen Kruize, Arlene Fults and some members of their family.
In past several weeks I have attended the North Central Lab field day, the Morris co-op plot day that got moved indoors due to the rain and visitation and funeral for Joyce Steuck.
Note for personal reasons I will be doing my 9/13 column early so if you have any news for me I will need it by the 9th.

Weather news: the last week has been hot and muggy; we did not get the rain some other areas did i.e. Graceville
In St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news: There will be joint services at St John’s on Aug 31st at 9 am. The parish will be leading services under the big top tent on the threshing bee grounds on Aug. 24th.
Story time at St John’s on Aug 27th at 6:30 pm for kids of all ages

Celebrations: There will be an open house baby shower for Bentley Brunelle, son of McKayla Smith and Terry Brunelle, today (Saturday) from 10 a.m. to noon at the home of his grandparents, Mike and Rhoda Smith, 13680 St. Hwy. 9, Donnelly.   
There will be an open house wedding dance in honor of Brian Ennen and Laura Wolff today (Saturday) from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Old No. 1 Southside in Morris.   Brain’s parents are Dale and Jeanne Ennen
Jacob Moser of Morris graduated from South Dakota State University in spring 2014 Parents are Jon and Lori Moser.

 Chrissy (DeLong) Oaches of Herman has been hired as a teacher at Morris Area Elementary School.
Rita Lehman of Tintah passed away on Aug 8th survivors include her grandson Nick (Laura) Lehman and their family.
Former Donnelly area resident LaVerne Barrie Westerlund passed away on Aug. 17th
Joyce Steuck of Donnelly passed away on Aug 18th her funeral is Aug 26th at first-Morris. She was a very good friend of my Dad.
Well this is the weekend for the threshing bee or as we call it our annual family reunion hope to see many of you there this year. Admission is by a button available at the gate. The web page is http://www.donnellythreshingbee.com there is also a Facebook page
The feature this year is Ford next year it will be anything made in 1965. I will have my golf cart on the grounds again this year for use by handicapped individuals anyone may drive a vehicle i.e. a golf cart on the grounds provided you register it at the depot and provide proof of liability insurance.  The headquarters is the depot so if you need some info or have questions stop and talk to whoever is at the desk the phone # for there is 320-246-3272. Officers will be wearing special shirts and caps if you need to talk to one of them.   There will also be some events at “the place to be” this weekend i.e. a DJ and bike ride, contact them for more info. Check sales of the week in the paper for rummage sales around town this weekend.
There will be lots of activities going on both days; church food stands on the grounds, displays in the depot and school house and on the grounds and demonstrations both days. Anyone is welcome to bring a display, do some demonstrating, provide music etc.
There will be workday on the grounds on Aug. 26th at 6:30 pm.  Work schedules for the bee were mailed out on Aug 11th however any help during and after the bee is greatly appreciated. Lori Mau is looking for adults to help with the pop shack during the bee. Thanks to everyone who came out to help with the setup on Aug. 19th.
The last parade of the year for our threshing bee royalty was at the Ortonville cornfest on Aug 17th. Thanks girls for being our ambassadors during the past year.
Former Donnelly resident John Ruff of Dennison, TX and his daughter Shawna Ruff spent some time this week visiting his sister Lou Eystad and other family and friends in the area
Joan and Jerry Kopacek along with Helen Kill were in Osakis Saturday Aug. 16th working the 5th District VFW Auxiliary Chicken Dinner Fundraiser. A good time was had by all and the food was good too.

Two upcoming events at the main shelter at Pomme De Park; the Hope and Healing picnic sponsored by Pedersen funeral home on Aug.18th at 5:30 pm; the Thrivent picnic is on Aug. 20 at 5:00 pm (note time change from what was previously announced)

Faith Lutheran congregational picnic will be held at Wells Park on Aug. 17th at 4 pm.

Celebrations: Tucker Christopher Lohse was born on July 14 at Lake Region Healthcare, Fergus Falls, to Christopher and Joanna Lohse of Elbow Lake.   Grandparents are Todd and Deb Lohse of Elbow Lake, and Keith and Sheila Kaehler of Morris.
Mallory Christine Lair was born on June 19 at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center to Ryan and Jackie (Kill) Lair. Grandparents are Mike and Rhonda Lair of Morris and Nick and Sandy Kill of Morris. Great-grandparents include Barb and Don Rilley of Chokio, Kermit and Karen Stahn of Morris, Great-great-grandmother is Marlys Alm of Morris.

Jace Lee Dohlen was born on July 23, 2014 at Stevens Community Medical Center, Morris, to Jacob and Krystal Dohlen of Morris. Grandparents include Gary and Sharon Dohlen of Morris, Great-grandparents include Clarence Giese of Morris,  There will be an open house baby shower for  him today (Saturday,) from 2 to 4 p.m. at Sharon Dohlen’s, 15804 County Rd. 1, Morris

There will be an open house baby shower for Leah Marie Winther, daughter of Jill and Ryan Winther, on Aug. 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Paul and Nancy Thompson home, 58 Berlin Ave S., Herman.

Aug. 13th Mark and I attended the visitation for Donnelly area resident Warren Vavra at the Pederson funeral home in Morris, and then traveled to Herman for the visitation for former Donnelly area resident Ben DeLong VII (Sr.) of Alexandria at the Herman United Methodist church. Both gentlemen passed away on Aug 9th and have survivors living in the Donnelly/Herman area.

The threshing bee royalty were part of the Harvest festival parade in Hoffman on Aug 2nd.   Many of us from the area spent time attending the Stevens county fair in Morris over the weekend. I also attended the visitation for Jerry Oaches in Herman.
Some grand champions at the Morris fair were Barb Simpson, Suzanne Smith, Michelle Papesh. 4-h results will be included in a special addition to the Morris paper on Aug. 23rd too many to list here. Also Tyler Busse won twice in the demo derby at the fair

Welcome another edition of the Donnelly news;
Weather news: the weather for the past week has been hot and dry, we need rain. Irrigation and sprinkler systems are in full use around here. The garden produce displayed at the Glenwood fair looked nice.
In St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news: There will be joint services at Kongsvinger on Aug. 10th and at St John’s on Aug.17th and 31st at 9 am.
The parish will be leading services under the big top tent on the threshing bee grounds on Aug. 24th.

Good shepherd news: New address; Rev and Mrs. Mike Hanson 248 South Columbia Ave Morris MN 56267. I was among the members of the church who helped them get moved in on Aug 1st. The house is right across the St. from the school parking lot.

Community news: A baby shower for Erin Ersted and her baby boy to be born in October will be held on Saturday, Aug. 9 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the home of Paul and Renee Ersted, 10301 Pocket Lake Road SW, Lowry, MN  56349.   


Primary Election Day is Aug. 12th most voters in the Donnelly area will vote at the Donnelly hall.
Celebrations: 10u baseball team took second at the state tournament in Rosemont recently; Jackson Loge and Brandon Jergenson were members of that team Rob Jergenson was one of the coaches.  They also took second in a tournament in Raymond and won their home tournament in late June.
Yvonne Evenson was part of the PDT lady’s scramble team that finished second, Penny Melberg was part of a team that finished third.  


The threshing bee royalty candidates will be introduced on Aug. 11th at 7:30 pm prior to the community club meeting at 8:30 pm
The Donnelly fire department “old guys” took 2nd at the crazy day water fights in Morris

The threshing bee royalty were part of the Flekkefest parade in Elbow Lake on Aug 2nd. I also spent some time taking in other Flekkefest activities over the weekend as well attending some events at the Pope county fair in Glenwood. En-route home from the fair I stopped at Samuelson’s drug in Starbuck to visit with our former postmistress Mary Shultz for a few minutes. She said I was supposed to say “hi” to everyone in Donnelly
