donnelly news

July 27th-Aug 2nd
Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news:
Correction: it was Brady Jergenson who was member of the black Babe Ruth team
Weather news:It has been hot and dry the past week, corn and wheat continue to look very good so far, beans are looking better. A lot of ditch hay is being put up this year. As I am writing this on Thursday a.m., we are getting some much needed rain.
  • ST John’s/Kongsvinger news: There will be joint services at St John’s, on July 28th at 10:15 a.m., followed by a farewell pot luck dinner, for Pastor Judy. She is retiring on August 1st, and moving to Fargo.
A block party coordinated by the parish ,is being held today (Saturday) ,at the threshing bee grounds ,starting with a softball game between the fireman and the rod and gun club at 2 p.m., followed by food at 4 p.m. ,and a bean bag tournament. There will be a free will offering, to benefit playground equipment in Donnelly.
There will be a community Vacation Bible School, on July 30th from 9-noon at St John ’s.; July 31st from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Pomme De Park, with a picnic lunch, at noon. The Wednesday session will include some time at the splash park, so please bring along swim suits, towels etc. in case of bad weather, it will be held at St John’s.  Children should be dropped off and picked up at St John’s on Tuesday, and Pomme De Terre Park, on Wednesday.  Preschool through 6th grade are invited to attend. To register for it, or for more info, call Joan Fults at 589-4421, or the parish office at 246-3211.
There will be joint services at 10:15 a.m., on August 4 and 18th at Kongsvinger; and August 11 at St John’s.
The August parish newsletter is now out; extra copies are available in the narthex of each church.
There are two upcoming bridal showers at Kongsvinger in August, for Audrey McNally, bride to be of Steve Larson, on August 10th and Amanda Werk, bride to be of Sean Sorteberg, on August 17th. More details later.
  • Good Shepherd news: Vacation Bible School will held on Aug 7,14,21,28, from 6-8 p.m. More details later. For  more info call 589-4345
  • Other church news: Trinity Lutheran of Alberta will have their annual sweet corn feed on August 4th from 5-7 p.m. at the church. 
Faith Lutheran Morris will have a church picnic at Wells Park, on July 28th, at 4 p.m.
  •  Community news:  A Gulbrandson- Harstad reunion will be held on July 28th, at Kongsvinger, beginning with a pot luck dinner at noon. All family members are welcome to come and enjoy the afternoon.
There will be an open house celebrating Cliff Bjorlin’s 90th birthday today, (Saturday), from 1 to 4 p.m., at Hosanna Worship Center, Morris.
The Aanerud Family Reunion will be held August 4th at Pomme de Terre Park’s main shelter starting with a noon pot-luck dinner.
On August 5th the red hatters will meet at the Herman bar and grill in Herman at 9 a.m., the bookmobile will be in Donnelly at 3:30 p.m., the Rendsville 4-h and city council will meet at 7 p.m. in the fire hall and city hall in Donnelly.
I know that there are threshing bee buttons now on sale at the United Farmers and Merchants State Bank in Morris and HD & co in Donnelly and probably other places as well. There are some posters up around the area, and the website http://www.donnellythreshingbee.com/ has been updated.
  • Celebrations: The reflections softball team, were the runners up in the elementary soft ball tournament. Team members included Kendra Wevley, Kamern Sperr and Miranda Papesh; Brandi Sperr was one of the coaches.
Open class winners at grant county fair included: Barbara Simpson, Linda Volker, and Esther Gilbertson.  Bryce Lehman was a winner in his age division in the kiddie tractor pull
Among those competing at the Marv Myer, Prairie Pioneer days, 5k ladies run, were: McKenzie Smith, Rebekah and Savannah Aanerud who placed first, second, and third, and Becca Holland (13th)
Audrina Michelle Boe was born on July 7, to Brittney and Jesse Boe of Fargo, N.D.; grandparents are Randy and Karla Schmiesing of Chokio and Randy and Cathy Boe of Morris. Great grandparents are Wally and Marls Giese
Micah Aanerud was a member of the royals little league teams that were runners up in this year’s little league tournament

  • Mark Koepke and I attended part of the little league championship games at Wells park on July 19th. Later I traveled to Herman for the fireworks show at the Grant County Fair. En-route home, I stopped at the relay for life event at Pomme de Terre Park.
Several current and former Donnelly area residents, were among those of us who attended the visitation for Lloyd Plocker, at the Pederson funeral home in Morris, on July 19th .He was my aunt Pearl (Albert’s), brother -in -law.
The threshing bee royalty were part of the Grant County fair parade in Herman, on July 20th.Later I took in some of the activities at the fairgrounds.
July 21st Mark and I attended the 50th anniversary polka mass, and dinner at the West Wing Village, then traveled to Herman for some the Grant County fair activities.
The Stevens County Republican Party steering committee had a meeting on July 22nd at Detoy's.  We are looking for people to sit in the fair booth if interested call 795-2806.
For the person who put a note in my post office “mail box” about dogs in Donnelly, I would suggest you talk to the council about it.

July 20th-26th

Weather news: the rain we had Sunday was just “what the doctor ordered for area farmers”, otherwise it has been hot and dry .Crops look good esp. the corn by the Good Shepherd church
ST John’s/Kongsvinger news: services on July 21st will be at 8:30 am at Kongsvinger; 10:15 a.m. at St John’s.

The National FFA Organization has awarded a $1,000 Ford Trucks/Built Ford Tough scholarship to Thomas Holland of Donnelly.
Brianna Kruize of Morris graduated from North Dakota state university    with an A.A.S. in dental hygiene; her parents are Brian and Peggy; grandparents are Harry and  Corrine, Glen and Nancy Koop; Art and Carol Durkke
“Dancing off Broadway” ,of Alexandria ,recently took home top honors at the encore dance completion. Justine Huebner is a member of that dance troupe
Thanks to Karen Long for this: Bev (Bouressa) Marty from Clarksville TN has been visiting in the area for 2 weeks Her parents were Gene and Ellen (Harstad) Bouressa meeting for brunch one day last week were Elvira Bennett of Kensington, Darrell Harstad of Perham ;Deanna Heuer of Donnelly ;Gordon Harstad; Gloria Heuer and Donna Gades, Ron and  Jan Bouressa all of Morris ;Karen Long and Vedar Harstad of Herman.  Lots of reminiscing was done!!! Bev Marty visited with aunt Opal Harstad. Charles and Karen Long and granddaughter Emma met Stan and Konnie Harstad and grandchildren Nicolle and Parker along with great aunt Selma Bruse in Elbow Lake one evening for supper. Bev Marty spent some time in Elbow Lake ,visiting several old friends, Harold and Bev Marty left Elbow Lake for Tennessee 26 years ago. Bev also spent time in Coon Rapids, with her aunt Doris (Bouressa) Leaf ,who resides in a nursing home.  Bev and Karen stopped by to visit Laverne Kopitzke one afternoon. Bev fondly remembers wonderful cream and bread days with cream form Chester and Gloria Larson. They also visited local cemeteries
July 11 I stopped at the West wing Village to visit Mary Drips and other residents. Mary would very much like to hear from some of the Donnelly people she grew up with, and told me to say “hi” to everybody in Donnelly
A good crowd was on hand for the Kiwanis talent show on July 12th at eastside park .Earlier in the day I attended summer field day at the west central research and outreach center. McKenzie Smith is a summer interim out there
Jim and Lou Eystad and I took a wagon ride as part of the prairie extravaganza at the united states fish and wildlife service headquarters near Morris, on July 13th .Later I stopped at the eastside park to take in some of the activities of prairie pioneer days there.  Mark and I attended the fireman's pancake breakfast at the Morris fire hall on July 14th due to rain the parade was cancelled

July 15th I took in part of the babe Ruth championship game at Chizek Park won by the black team, Bryce Jergenson is a member of that team.

donnelly news

July 13-19th



Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news:



Weather news: it has been hot and dry the past week we could use some rain. Farmers are busy spraying ,and putting up hay. The corn looks fantastic ,as does the wheat ,by the threshing bee grounds, beans are fair



ST John’s/Kongsvinger news: There will be joint services at St John's on July 14 @10:15 am



Services on July 21st will be at 8:30 am at Kongsvinger: 10:15 am at St john's.



A block party coordinated by the parish will be held on July 27th at the threshing bee grounds



Good Shepherd news: there will be no more women's bible study study until August



The July coffee money goes to life right outreach ministries in Alexandria



The July mission of the month is Lutheran church in missions to Christ  disaster relief for Oklahoma



Adult forum on July 21st



Construction work has begun on the new addition ot the church.





Food distribution July 16 5:30 pm at Morris area high school cafeteria



There will be an open house bridal shower for Joanna Braun, bride to be of Chris Lohse, on Saturday, July 13 at United Lutheran Church in Elbow Lake from 9 a.m. to noon. Joanna is the daughter of Keith and Sheila Kaehler of Morris. Chris is the son of Todd and Deb Lohse of Elbow Lake.



Sami Searle is a contestant in the Miss Morris pageant to ge held today (Saturday)in the Morris area high school auditorium







Nominations for our 2013 Donnelly Threshing Bee Royalty are now being accepted thru July 15.  There are drop boxes in these Donnelly Businesses:

Donnelly Co-op, Donnelly Post Office, HD & Co.

LTD Motor cycle run will be held on July 20th starting with registration at 7:30 am at the swift county fairgrounds in Appleton. Morris will be one of the stops in the ride



Jill Marie Thompson and Ryan Lee Winther were united in marriage on Feb. 8, 2013 during a beach ceremony in Cancun, Mexico.  A reception and dance followed when the couple returned on Feb. 23 at the Herman American Legion. Parents of the couple are Paul and Nancy Thompson of Herman and Bob Winther of Herman and the late Virginia Winther.  grandparents are glen and Gertie Werk 


Chandler Erickson was named to the honor roll at Chokio Alberta high school

The following were members of a group or a solo act that won awards at the 2013 band solo and ensemble contest:  MaKenzie Smith ,Adam Uphoff ,John Heubner, Becca and Tom  Holland .James Burke ,Amber Recker, Brittany Cardwell


Mark Koepke and I attended the 4th of July celebration at Kongsvinger . In the afternoon the threshing bee royalty and several other Donnelly area residents were in parade in Hancock. In the eve a good crowd was on hand for the fireworks show at the ball field



July 6th the threshing bee royalty were part of the heritage days parade in Starbuck, afterwards I stopped into the Minnewaska home to say"hi" to some of the residents there .later I attended the queen coronation at the park, visited Inga mae Urke at the her house, then took in the fireworks display at the park.



Our refurbished threshing bee float looks fantastic. thanks to everyone who made it possible




July 7th a good crowd was on hand for the reception for Jerry and Erica Lohr III at Kongsvinger. Later I traveled to Clinton to for their 130th anniversary parade.



July 8th the fellowship committee had a meeting at ST. John’s to make plans for the block party on July 27th. Afterwards I went across the street to the hall for the community club meeting ,as we continue working on plans for the bee. The posters are out, I have a limited # at my house,  they will be available at HD & co in the future, and posted though out the area.  The buttons are also here and will be for sale  in Donnelly area business in the future, and the United Farmers & Merchants bank locations. If you want one right now  contact one of the officers. The theme this year is “Donnelly Threshing Bee it is a gas” (engines that is). The dates are August 24 & 25th ,the feature will be gas engines, next year it will be Ford. A  new feature this year is a “corn hole double elimination tournament” Saturday afternoon. Good crowds were on hand on July 9th for the Little League games at Wells park .



July 10th several Donnelly area residents were among those of us who attended the visitation for Jessica Hanson at Zion Lutheran in Hoffman ,after visitation I visited Marvel Wagner at Hoffman home. later the Kopacek family and I attended the Runestone Telecom association meeting at West Central Area high school in Barrett, after the meeting I visited Lorraine Frank. at the Barrett home

DONNELLY NEWS

Weather news: Many residents in the Morris area still cleaning up from the June 21st storm. Thankfully the weather has been sunny and warm since then giving crops time to recover from the storm. Farmers are busy spraying and haying. Corn continues to look very good
ST John’s/Kongsvinger news: there will be joint services at Kongsvinger at 10:15 am on July 7th followed by a time of fellowship for Jerry and Erica Loher and family. He is being deployed to Afghanistan later this summer.  Note change of time from what was announced earlier.  His parents are jerry Jr.; Jody Lohr grandmother is Bertha Larson
There will be joint services at St John's on July 14 @10:15 am
The July newsletter is now out extra copies are available the narthex of each church
Rev Judy Gellinske, the parish pastor for the past 4 1/2 years, has announced she will be retiring on Aug. 1st.

Jerry and Joan Kopacek attended an enjoyable Women’s Week at Luther Crest Bible Camp.
On June 25th   Craig and Cork Loge and I attended the final little league game of the year in Donnelly, later Jack Fuchs and I watched another one at Wells Park in Morris.
 Several Donnelly area residents were among those of us who attended the Kiwanis talent contest in Morris on June 27th
The Stabekk School Band from Oslo, Norway was one of the bands featured in the Viking land band festival in Alexandria on June 30th. The 726 cadets were grand champions. After the ceremony I visited with a friend in the Bethany home.  I then stopped by the future home of the living word Lutheran church in Alexandria
Several Donnelly area kids were among the “new whiners” who performed their homecoming concert at First Lutheran on July 2nd
