donnelly news

July 20th-26th
Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news:
Weather news: the rain we had Sunday was just “what the doctor ordered for area farmers”, otherwise it has been hot and dry .Crops look good esp. the corn by the Good Shepherd church
ST John’s/Kongsvinger news: services on July 21st will be at 8:30 am at Kongsvinger; 10:15 a.m. at St John’s.
There will be joint services at St John ’s on July 28th at 10:15 am, followed by a farewell pot luck dinner for Pastor Judy. Note this is a change from what was announced
A block party coordinated by the parish ,will be held on July 27th ,at the threshing bee grounds ,starting with a softball game between the fireman and the rod and gun club at 2 pm, followed by food at 4 pm ,and bean bag tournament. Free will offering to benefit playground equipment in Donnelly
There will be a community vacation bible school ,on July 30th from 9-noon at St John ’s.; July 31st from 9 am-2 pm at Pomme de park with a picnic lunch. the Wednesday session will include some time at the splash park ,so please bring along swim suits, towels etc. in case of bad weather it will be held at St John’s.  Children should be dropped off and picked up at St John ’s on Tuesday and Pomme De Park on Wednesday.  Preschool through 6th grade are invited to register or for more info call Joan Fults at 589-4421, or the parish office at 246-3211
Good Shepherd news: there will be no more women's bible study until August, and no Adult forum on July 21st
Community news: There will be an Erickson family reunion at Kongsvinger today (Saturday) beginning with a potluck dinner at noon. 
A Gulbrandson Harstad reunion will be held on July 28th at Kongsvinger beginning with a pot luck dinner at noon. All family members are welcome come and enjoy the afternoon
There will be an open house celebrating Cliff Bjorlin’ s 90th birthday on Saturday, July 27, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Hosanna Worship Center, Morris.
Lloyd Plocker of Morris passed away on July 17th. Survivors include his daughter Betty (Roger)
Werk and family.his funeral is today (Saturday) at faith Lutheran in Morris
Celebrations: Sami Searle was named a Miss Morris ambassador on July 13th
The National FFA Organization has awarded a $1,000 Ford Trucks/Built Ford Tough scholarship to Thomas Holland of Donnelly.
Brianna Kruize of Morris graduated from North Dakota state university    with an A.A.S. in dental hygiene; her parents are Brian and Peggy; grandparents are Harry and  Corrine, Glen and Nancy Koop; Art and Carol Durkke
“Dancing off Broadway” ,of Alexandria ,recently took home top honors at the encore dance completion. Justine Huebner is a member of that dance troupe
Thanks to Karen Long for this: Bev (Bouressa) Marty from Clarksville TN has been visiting in the area for 2 weeks Her parents were Gene and Ellen (Harstad) Bouressa meeting for brunch one day last week were Elvira Bennett of Kensington, Darrell Harstad of Perham ;Deanna Heuer of Donnelly ;Gordon Harstad; Gloria Heuer and Donna Gades, Ron and  Jan Bouressa all of Morris ;Karen Long and Vedar Harstad of Herman.  Lots of reminiscing was done!!! Bev Marty visited with aunt Opal Harstad. Charles and Karen Long and granddaughter Emma met Stan and Konnie Harstad and grandchildren Nicolle and Parker along with great aunt Selma Bruse in Elbow Lake one evening for supper. Bev Marty spent some time in Elbow Lake ,visiting several old friends, Harold and Bev Marty left Elbow Lake for Tennessee 26 years ago. Bev also spent time in Coon Rapids, with her aunt Doris (Bouressa) Leaf ,who resides in a nursing home.  Bev and Karen stopped by to visit Laverne Kopitzke one afternoon. Bev fondly remembers wonderful cream and bread days with cream form Chester and Gloria Larson. They also visited local cemeteries
July 11 I stopped at the West wing Village to visit Mary Drips and other residents. Mary would very much like to hear from some of the Donnelly people she grew up with, and told me to say “hi” to everybody in Donnelly
A good crowd was on hand for the Kiwanis talent show on July 12th at eastside park .Earlier in the day I attended summer field day at the west central research and outreach center. McKenzie Smith is a summer interim out there
Jim and Lou Eystad and I took a wagon ride as part of the prairie extravaganza at the united states fish and wildlife service headquarters near Morris, on July 13th .Later I stopped at the eastside park to take in some of the activities of prairie pioneer days there.  Mark and I attended the fireman's pancake breakfast at the Morris fire hall on July 14th due to rain the parade was cancelled

July 15th I took in part of the babe Ruth championship game at Chizek Park won by the black team, Bryce Jergenson is a member of that team.
