donnelly news


Next edition June 30th-July 6th

Welcome to another edition of the of the Donnelly news.

Weather news: most of the days have been sunny and mild during the past week.  If corn being knee high by the 4th is a sign of a good crop this year’s will be a great year as it is already that and more.  The only field work I have seen was somebody putting up some hay for silage although there is lot of hay down in ditches

STJ/KONG News: Service times will switch on July 1st St J at 8:30 am, Kong at 10:15 am. The fall schedule will resume in Sept. there will be joint services at St J on July 8th

There will be a 4th of July celebration at Kong beginning with a flag- raising at 11 am; followed by a pot luck dinner (ice cream, bread and beverages provided) come and reflect on the day.

GSLC news: a reminder that services at the church are at 9:00 am every Sun with coffee fellowship afterwards and adult Ed at 10:30

The following events are taking place today (Sat):

A memorial service for Esther Pasche will be at 11 a.m. at ST Paul’s Lutheran church in Morris,

there will be an open house baby shower for Charles and Amanda (Greiner) Moser from 2-4 pm at ST J, her parents are Greg and Dona Greiner, step grandparents are Rollie and Jan Greiner, they are expecting twins;

There will also be an open house bridal shower for Corin Zapf bride to be of Tyler Ascheman at the Kong parish hall on from 1-3 pm. His parents are Larry and Peggy Ascheman; step grandmother is Liz Ascheman.

There will be a 100th birthday party for Folkert Bruns at the place to be in Donnelly from 2-4 pm

The city council and rendsville 4-h will meet on July 2nd at 7 pm at the fire hall and Donnelly hall

NAPS distribution will be on July 2nd at the Morris sr center.

The red hatters will meet at 1 pm at the place to be on July 2nd an additional meeting will be held on July 20th at the 4-h food stand in Herman at 11 am

The po and most Donnelly business will be closed on July 4th

The community club will meet on July 8th at 7 pm at the Donnelly hall

July 12th will be the final game of ladies sb in Donnelly at 7 pm. there are also many Donnelly area kids and/or adults who are players or coaches of the many sb and bb teams playing games in Morris. The tri county horseshoe league also has games every week at the courts by the po

Ufmsb will be celebrating their centennial with a variety of events on July 13th in Donnelly

Keason Cihak was born to Mike and Jen Cihak on June 9th. Her sister Amanda and her husband Josh Anderson had a baby on May 13th Grandparents are Glen and Judy Heinrichs

Congratulations to Kody Armstrong who made the honor roll at wcahs

On Apr. 11 the annual band solo and ensemble contests were held in Morris, the following received awards as members of a group: McKenzie Smith and James Burke Jazz 1,McKenenzie was also a member of the  sax septet, the sax sextet and wind ensemble; Tom Holland and James Burke trombone quartet Alyssa Uphoff and McKayla Smith wind ensemble clarinet choir, McKayla also was a member of the woodwind duet; Dalton Lupke and John Huebner brass ensemble ,Pat Uphoff; brass ensemble ,and a euphonium solo ;Brandon Pry brass ensemble ;Mark Dunn and Myles Smith brass  quartet Amber Recker flute trio; Kristina Johnson flute duet
Congratulations to Shadow Olson of Donnelly who was named to the dean’s list at MSU-Morehead, Nicole Daly SWSU, and Taylor Nohl, MN state community and technical college (Fergus Falls)

Congratulations to Kristina Johnson who has been selected for membership to the national society of high school scholars

Congratulations to Tom Holland who was named to wcc all conf team and Chandler Erickson who was named honorable mention in bb

A good crowd was on hand on June 21st for the Kiwanis Talent contest at Eastside Park , the winner was Camilla Bjorklund of Farwell, Justine Huebner was a member of a dance trio that finished in a tie for third along with the dance group  "Can't Turn You Loose" that Hailey Leisimeter was a member of. Earlier in the day Maynard Mau was one of the tour guides at the westmor 40th anniversary open house in Morris

The threshing bee royalty were part of the old settler’s parade in Barrett on June 23rd; prior to the parade I visited some friends at the Barrett home. Earlier in the day I attended a memorial service for Betty Gladke Bellmore in Morris. She was a housemate of my cousin Bevy at LL.

Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended the baptism service of  Kinzee Evink at GS on June 24th, in the aft we attended the ice cream social at ST J (Starbuck).Later in the aft I attended the vlbf parade in Alex. After the awards ceremony I visited a friend at the Bethany home in Alex

June 25th “New Wine” had their homecoming concert at First Lutheran members of the cast included Beth and Tom Holland and Amber Recker, Linda Holland was one of the chaperones.

June 26th I traveled to Spicer for the all-state Lutheran choir concert, afterwards I had an opportunity to say “hi” to Bev Nelson ,her husband was pastor at Kong in the late 60’s; enroute to the concert I stopped in Hancock for the relay for life supper

Jim and Lou Eystad attended the wedding of Courtney Vogel and Danny Grout on June 23rd at Assumption Catholic Church in Morris and the reception afterwards.  Between the two events they attended a graduation reception for McKayla Smith
