donnelly news

Next edition June 22nd-28th



Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news:



Weather news: warm, sunny, weather the past week or so has been a boom for the crops. As someone one on the bus tour remarked “you can almost hear the corn grow”.  All crops continue to look good, but I did hear some crops had to replanted, after they were destroyed by hail.



ST John’s/Kongsvinger News: There will be joint services at St John’s, on June 23 at 8:30 am



4th of July celebration at Kongsvinger, with a flag raising ceremony at 11:15 am, followed by a pot luck dinner



Good Shepherd news: There will be adult forums, after coffee hour, on the 1st and 3rd Sunday, of each month, during the summer months.

The Morris Life Care baby bottle fundraiser will end on June 23rd, bring the bottle back to the church, and put them in a box, in the pastor’s office

June mission of the month is New Hope missions; the coffee money goes to Stevens county Relay for Life



Other church news:  The Minnesota all -state Lutheran choir will conclude its tour on June 26th stopping in Spicer on June 25th



Community news: The Morris area high school class of 1973, will have a 40 year reunion today, (Saturday),at the Crystal Lanes bowling center, beginning with a social hour at 6 pm, followed by dinner.



I was asked to announce that there will be a Harstad/Gulbrandson reunion on July 28th at Kongsvinger Lutheran church on July 29th, beginning with a potluck dinner at noon. All family members invited.



Donnelly Rod and Gun club will have their 20th annual walleye tournament at the Pomme De Terre Lake public access, June 23, beginning with registration at 9 am. More info 589-4421 or 246-3307

There will be a Stevens County disaster drill on June 29th, in the Donnelly area

 Death notice:  Maryann Given Stout of Wheaton passed away on June 9th. Survivors include her step daughter, former Donnelly area resident, Bernadine (Reuben) Kruize, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and their family.



Celebrations: Rob and Kathy Kopel are proud to announce the engagement of their daughter, Tracy Kopel, to Sean Lockrem, son of Steve and Tracey Lockrem. They will be wed on July 20, in Morris. Her grandmother is Evelyn Kopel There will be an open house bridal shower for them, on June 29 at the Old No. 1 Southside from 9 to 11 a.m. Please use back door.



Dani Kloos and Jesse Streed are pleased to announce their engagement. Dani is the daughter of Phil and Kris Kloos of Donnelly. Jesse is the son of Darrell and Naomi Streed of Milan. The wedding date is set for August 31 in Alexandria her grandparents are Herb and Carol Kloos. There will be a Bridal shower for them today (Saturday), at Kongsvinger, at 10 am



Royce Kaylon Erdahl was born on June 1st at Stevens Community Medical Center, Morris, to Aaron and Kayla Erdahl of Donnelly. . Grandparents are Kevin and Sherry Wohlers of Morris, and Steve and Sue Erdahl-Nelson of Donnelly, and the late Bruce Erdahl. Great grandparents are Connie Wohlers, Dennis and Linda Dahl, and Bernice Erdahl all of Morris.

Accomplishments Gabi Nienhaus was named to the b honor roll at Hancock High school. Her parents are Barry and Patty grandmother is Geesien Kill



The following students have been named to the Minnesota State University Moorhead dean’s list, in recognition of academic achievement, for the 2013 spring semester: Sydney Beyer of Morris and Shadow Olson of Donnelly.

 Joan and Jerry Kopacek were delegates to the VFW State convention, in St. Cloud, June 14th -16th

A good crowd was on hand, on June 13th, for the 40th anniversary celebration, at Superior Industries in Morris, later Irene Stand and I attended the federated telephone annual meeting at the Morris area high school music hall.  Arden Frank and I also attended the Kiwanis talent contest, at Eastside Park, that evening.



Several members of the Good Shepherd family were among those of us who attended the visitation for Dwaine Benson at the Pederson Funeral home on June 14th.Afterwards I traveled to Benson, for the Pionnerland Band festival 



Mark Koepke and I attended the memorial service for Bill Underwood at Kongsvinger on June 15th, in the afternoon Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended the funeral for Dwaine Benson at Good Shepherd Lutheran church.







Our threshing bee royalty and Dale Graff were among the participants in Runestone Days' parade in Kensington on June 16th. Later Mark Koepke and I attended the open house birthday party for Jeanne Ennen at the Donnelly community hall. In the evening a good crowd was on hand for the All –State Lutheran Choir concert at Shalom Lutheran church in Alexandria.



Mark and I attended a little league game in Donnelly, on June 17th, and in Morris, on June 18th




Several current and former Donnelly area residents were among those of us who took a conservation bus tour throughout parts of Stevens County, on June 20th, including a stop at the Mark Erickson farm near Donnelly. In the eve Mark and I attended the 25th anniversary celebration for Rev Dell Sanderson at Faith Lutheran in Morris.
