donnelly news

Next edition Oct 16th-22nd

Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news.

Weather news: Farmers are very busy taking advantage of the warm sunny mild temps we have had over the past week to pick corn and other fall crops. My neighbor told me that some of the corn that they had picked was the driest he could ever remember. Some places in the area have broken several high temp records in the past wk. given the forecast I would suspect that many farmers will be done with the corn harvest in another week or so.

The st co gen soc had their first meeting of the fall on Oct 7th at the Morris public library. We are always looking for new members and remember that due to the hard work of a lot of volunteers there is a lot of info in the gen room in the library.

Oct 9th was a busy day for me. I started the day at the Wilcox relocation auction in Morris, stopped at the fall festival at St J before heading to Elbow Lake for a memorial service for a distant relative of mine Julie Walwick at United Lutheran. I then returned to Morris for the open house at the Christus house, the benefit for Lyle Kruize at the Legion and the 4- h awards show at the wcorc. I also stopped at the Old # 1 Southside to offer congratulations to Beth (Van Horn) Kieffer on the occasion of her remarriage.

Oct 10th I attended the joint service of MSGLC of Morris and St J of rural Starbuck and the dinner after wards at st J. After wards I traveled to Morris where I took in the green energy tour and the homecoming concerts. One of the alumni I had a chance to visit with a little at the concert was former Donnelly area resident Dick Kloos. After the concert I went over to the green rivers apts to visit some with Vedar Harstad at this mothers place. He said his mom was very happy with all the birthday cards she had received so far,

The Donnelly community club had its monthly meeting on Oct 11th. We barnstormed on ideas for next year’s bee and/or other events. If you have any please share them with us. A quick reminder that the dates for next year’s bee are: Aug. 27 and 28th and the feature will be john Deere tractors and machinery. I also happy to report, that we had another successful bee, again this year. Due to a conflict next month’s meeting will be on Nov 15th instead of the 8th.

On Oct 12th I stopped in to visit Denny Anderson en-route home from Morris.

Gayle, Jenna, and Owen Gibson of Avon spent some time over the weekend visiting family and friends in the area and attending the St J fall festival.
