DONNELLY NEWS

Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news. a quick reminder to check out the community billboard in the park for current events.
Weather news: After several rainy cool weeks the weather has done a 180 this wk with sunny warm temps just what the area farmers were looking for. They are busy with bean harvest and given the forecast most should be able to finish this wk and then start on the corn next wk. My neighbor said the moisture was down to about 13% so they did not need to dry the beans. Fortunately we escaped the heavy rains some parts of the state got last week.

STJ/KONG PARISH NEWS: St J fall fest will be held on Oct 9th from 10:30am – 1 PM. They are looking for craft and white elephant items such as household items, small appliances, games, books (no clothes) etc. . Items can be brought to the church anytime for more info call 246-3470 or the parish office at 246-3211
On my blog site I have posted some info about the many churches in the area having dinners/suppers and/other events in the next month or so.
WAM will not meet in Oct the next meeting will be on Nov 6th at the Minnewaska Home in Starbuck.
LCMC augustana district “Women of the Word” will meet at faith Lutheran in Hutchinson on Oct 2nd at 9 am. Pastor Jaynan Clark will be the speaker to register or for more info call 795-2477
A local Lcmc:”women of the Word” meeting will be held on Oct 9th at St Luke's Lutheran church in Garfield at 9 am.
LCMC annual national convention will be held at the Calvary Lutheran church in golden Valley on Oct 3—6th. For more info or to register for any of these two events call 762-2684
MSGSLC and St J of rural Starbuck will have a joint worship service on Oct 10th at 10:45 am followed by a pot luck dinner.
LCM will have a homecoming celebration on Oct 9th at the Christus house 110 Columbia Avenue in Morris from 2-5 PM. Stop by for refreshments and conversation from 2-5 PM.
Zion Lutheran church in Morris will celebrate their 50th anniversary with special services and events this weekend.
Oct 3rd is UMM Sun at first Lutheran in Morris. Rev Kristi Braaten -Lee will preaching and she and other members of the Lutheran Campus Ministry will be sharing their story in song and word.

The glacial ridge conference women's fall gathering will be held at Our Savior’s Lutheran church in Chokio on Oct 4th beginning with registration at 4:30 PM followed by a supper. Rev. Kristi Braaten Lee will be the guest speaker with music by "cross-eyed".

Jada Leigh Wittern was baptized at Kong on Sept 26th. Her parents are Jeremyah and Nicole Wittern; grandmother is Becky Bergstrom; great grandparents are Burton and Irene Strand

The red hatters will meet at Sax’s cafe on Oct 4th at 9 am. Please wear your favorite Halloween mask and bring your favorite candy bar to exchange.

The St co rep party will be having their fall rally on Oct 5th at the Prairie Inn beginning with registration at 5 PM. A steak supper prepared by the west central cattleman's assoc will begin at 6 PM and the candidates will speak at 6:45 PM. All local and state republican candidates have been invited to the rally., so far Lee Byberg, Tim tingstead, rep Torrey westrom and Sen. bill Ingebretson are confirmed. The St co Gen soc will meet on Oct 7th at 1:30 PM at meeting room of the public library.

There will be a benefit of Lyle Kruize on Oct 9th from 3-7pm at the American Legion in Morris. He has cancer.

The Donnelly community club will have their monthly meeting on Oct 11th at 7 PM at the town hall

Emery Morgan Schlemmer was born on August 28, 2010 at Billings, Mont. to Rachel and Greg Schlemmer. Grandparents are Jeri Lange of Starbuck, Kermit Lange of Alberta, and Ervin and Julie Schlemmer of Joliet, Mont. Great-grandparents are Ione Lange of Morris and Eleanor Miller of New Ulm.

Alyson Lynn Lange was born on August 23, 2010 to Jonathan Lange and Karie Mattson of Glenwood. Grandparents are Jeri Lange of Starbuck; Kermit Lange of Alberta; Bob and Judy Mattson of Glenwood; Gary and Jeri Johnson of Glenwood. Great-grandparents are Ione Lange of Morris, Eleanor Miller of New Ulm, and Barb Schutt of Glenwood.

Correction: Bev Henrichs of St Louis Park passed away on Sept. 15. She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin (not Melvin).
Ludwig Pochardt of Morris passed away on Sept 24th. Among the family members that survive him, is a niece Pat (Gary) Smith and their family. His funeral was held On Sept 27th at first Lutheran of Morris
Joe Wagner of Hoffman passed away on Sept 26th. Among his survivors is a sister in law Ruth Moerke. I attended his visitation on Sept 28st at the funeral home. Joan and Jerry Kopacek attended his funeral at first Lutheran on Sept 29th.
Viola Thompson of Alex formerly of Donnelly passed away on Sept 27th. Her funeral was held on Oct 1st at first Lutheran in Morris.
Congratulations to Kristi Kopel (Mike and Joan) who was chosen as a junior and Beth Holland (Joe and Linda) as a freshman rep for the mahs homecoming court. Carrie roske was a queen candiate.

Congratulations to Bernice Erdahl for being elected VP of the St co home council

Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended the “ram” event at Nat guard armory in Morris on Sept 23rd sponsored by valu ford of Morris. . I also had a chance to visit with former Donnelly area resident Gary Huebner for a few minutes. Earlier in the day I visited with some friends at the WWV. En route home I stopped by to visit Denny Anderson who recently returned home after knee surgery and rehabilitation at the Minnewaska home. He wanted me to say thanks for all the cards, prayers and get well wishes he has received in the past few wks. He is doing very well going to therapy several times a wk.

In the eve they traveled to Alberta for the benefit for Miranda Hauglund

Wally McCollar and I took in some of the events during the founders’ weekend celebration at UMM on Sept 25th and 26th.

Lou Eystad and I were among those who attended the play “godly women out of history” at Kong on Sept 26th.

Pearl A. Anderson and I attended the community meal at the Morris Sr. center on Sept 27th. Later Andy Brevig and I attended the St co rep executive committee meeting at Detoy's. The main purpose of the meeting was to make plans for a fall rally/supper on Oct 5th We also attended the "emmer for gov." rally at Eastside Park in Morris on Sept 29th. The event also featured Torrey westrom and Lee Byberg.


Now that the good shepherd Lutheran church has been moved to it's site near Morris I have been asked what their plans are out there. I am told that the church will face south and be put on a flat slab with a "cubbyhole" underneath and they plan to add on to the east side of it for a fellowship hall. They are continuing to have weekly services, at the cougar room of the prairie inn, every Sun. at 9 am.

Odell and Joann Christionson of Alex were guests of Sam and Dorothy Jorhdheim on Sept 24th. also joining them were Donna Frank of Starbuck and Shirley Frank of Donnelly, This was a farewell dinner as they are moving to the cities. On Sept 29 Jim and verna stoneburg of Sunburg and Marlene Burlag of Cyrus were coffee guests of Sam and Dorothy.
