donnelly news

Next edition Dec 5th -11th

Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news.

The weather during the past week has been mostly cloudy and cool although there were some periods of sunshine and milder temps. It has been dry though which has enabled most farmers in the area to finish harvesting and to get their fall field work done.

STJ/KONG PARISH NEWS The parish is collecting items for the food shelf during the months of Nov and Dec. Non perishable items may be left in the shopping cart located in the narthex of both churches. There will also be a cap and mitten tree in the narthex of both churches for the SA until Dec 13th.

A community Christmas carol sing will be held on Dec 6th at 4 pm at St J followed by a light supper, everyone is welcome to come and help celebrate the Christmas season.

There will be a poinsettia Garden in the parish this yr. To buy one in memory or honor of somebody, please contact the parish office by Dec 14th.

The Kong Christmas Card Club will be held again this yr to add your name to the list contact Bertha Larson or Florentine Erickson by Dec 20th.

The following events will be held today (Sat):

The KCLW Christmas Advent family potluck brunch will be held at 9 am at the parish hall.

WCAWA will have their annual Advent potluck dinner at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus today. The program will begin at 10 a.m. with dinner to follow.

Thrivent is sponsoring a bus to the Concordia College Christmas concert today from Glenwood. For info about this trip or the WCAWA event call 795-2477


The Holidazlle trim a tree contest at the Donnelly Hall concludes today from 2-5 pm. The public can vote for their favorite tree display as well as sign up for the door prize. Winners of the Trim a Tree and door prize will be announced at 5 pm. Tickets will be available at the door. The money raised will go towards the Donnelly Town Hall remodeling of the kitchen and bathrooms. Stop in for some fresh Coffee, hot Cider, and baked Goodies! Contact Sandy Dunn at 246-3292 if you would like to bring in a tree to display or for more information. I stopped by the hall on Dec 2nd and there were already a lot of nice looking trees on display.

The SCHS holiday open house will be held today at the museum from 9-12 pm.

The Sr Citizens bazaar will run from 9-1:00
pm today at the Sr Center in Morris

Pederson Funeral Home’s “A time to remember” will be held on Dec 6th at 4 pm at the funeral home in Morris.

The Red Hats will meet on Dec 7th at 9 am at Sax’s cafĂ© in Donnelly. This is the Christmas party so bring your favorite cookie or candy to pass.

Santa will be stopping in Donnelly on Dec 19th.

Learning Unlimited will meet on Nov 9th at 1 pm at the Morris Public Library. Laird Barber will trace Jesus’ ancestry through the Gospel of Matthew.

Congratulations to Nichole Gillespie who was recently named the AAA winner for the ‘09-‘10 school year at C-A H.S.

Congratulations to Jake Long of the West Central Area Knights FB team who recently won several awards from the team and the Heart of Lakes conf at their fall sports banquet.

Ida Johnson of Donnelly passed away on Nov 29th. Her funeral was held on Dec 4th at St J. Her son Lloyd Bendt of Donnelly and his family are among her survivors.

Carol Erickson passed away on Nov 14th. Her sister in law Peg Wischnak of Morris formerly of the Donnelly area is among the family that survives her.

Several of us from the area took in the craft show at the Nat Guard Armory in Morris, on Nov 27th .Enroute home I stopped by St J where Jim and Lou Eystad were among those of us who helped decorate their church. Later in the aft Sandy Dunn and I decorated Kong.

Lowell and Sandy Dunn and family traveled to Wendell on Nov 26th to celebrate Thanksgiving with her mother Vivian Johnson

On Nov 28th Pearl A. Anderson and I were among the family and friends from the area who attended the 90th birthday party for Ruth Moerke at the Sr Center and the Golden Wedding celebration for Delroy and Gloria Heuer at Faith Lutheran in Morris. We were also among those from the area that took in the open house at Unger’s furniture on Nov 29th, enroute home I stopped to visit Sam Jordheim in Donnelly.

Jeff and Gayle Gibson and family of Avon were supper guests of Sam and Dorothy Jordheim on Nov 26th and also spent some visiting other family and friends in the area during the weekend. Mark Hofer of St Cloud traveled to Donnelly last week and picked up his mother- in law Shirley Frank and took her back to his home St Cloud to stay for a few days over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Jim and Lou Eystad and I were among a good crowd from the area that attended the community meal at the Sr Center Morris and later Rev King’s presentation at the MAHS. If you were unable to make it to the meeting you may buy a DVD of the event contact me for more info about ordering one.

Dec 2nd I stopped into McCollar Jewelry to wish Wally an early Happy Birthday.

Pearl A. Anderson and Larry and Peggy Wilke traveled to Fergus Falls on Nov 25th to have dinner with Kris Wilke.

Jim and Lou Eystad were Thanksgiving dinner guests of Tom and Colleen Dogotch of Morris

Verle and Della Dunn were Thanksgiving guests of their granddaughter Chandra and her husband in Alex
