DONNELLY NEWS

Next edition Dec 12th -18th



Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news. Please note that due to the Christmas and New Year’s holidays I will have early deadlines so I will need any news by the 22nd and 29th.

Winter has made it's return here with several inches of snow ,strong winds and the first below 0 temps of the season. I did see a few farmers in the field between Glenwood and Alex on Sat. but around here everyone is done for the yr.

STJ/KONG PARISH NEWS The parish collection of food for the St Co Food shelf will continue through Dec. The deadline for donations to the SA cap and mitten tree is Dec 13th.

There will be a poinsettia Garden in the parish this yr. To buy one in memory or honor of somebody, please contact the parish office by Dec 14th.

The Kong Christmas Card Club will be held again this yr to add your name to the list contact Bertha Larson or Florentine Erickson by Dec 20th.

There will be two performances of the ST/J/Kong S.S. program this year. The first one will be on Dec 20th during the 11 am worship service at St J which will be followed by a roast beef dinner. The second one will be held on Dec 23rd at Kong at 7 pm followed by birthday cake, punch and coffee in honor of Jesus’ birthday.

The sons of Norway will have their annual bake sale and Fårikål lunch at the Sr Center in Morris today (Sat) beginning at 11 am

Please remember to look at our community bulletin board when driving though town for details of upcoming events such as Santa’s annual visit to Donnelly on Dec 19th.

Congratulations to Nichole Gillespie who was recently named the AAA winner for the ‘09-‘10 school year at C-A H.S and was a winner of a 2009 Harde’s Heisman award.

Congratulations to Jake Long of the West Central Area Knights FB team who recently won several awards from the team and the Heart of Lakes conf at their fall sports banquet.

Congratulations to Maggie Larson who was one of the winners of the Christmas Medallion hunt sponsored by M S-T

Brice Tyler Backman was born on November 13, 2009 at St. Cloud Hospital to Jackie Hentges and Jon Backman of Donnelly. Grandparents are Jerry and Kate Hentges and Elizabeth Ascheman of Morris. Great-grandfather is Ralph Hentges of Canby.

Ryker Elliott Graff was born November 23, 2009 at Merit Care Hospital, Fargo to Brock and Tylise (Grossman) Graff. Grandparents are Tim and Tammie Grossman and Keith and Brenda Graff of Morris. Great Grandparents are Bob and Myrna Tomalla, Arven and Joanne Graff, Marie and (late) Clarence Grossman, and Verna and (late) Keith Scheldorf.

On Dec 3rd I traveled to Peace Lutheran Church in Barrett to attend the visitation for Elaine Ray. The Rays and Ekholms were family friends. After visitation I stopped up to visit Thelma Leegard in her apt.

Memorial services for Ida Johnson were held at St J on Dec 4th, Pearl A. Anderson and I were among the family and friends that attended her service.

Later in the day I took in the Hollidazle tree event at the Hall. All the trees looked fantastic and as far as I was concerned picking out the three best was a very difficult job. We hope to make this an annual event. The event was a great success with good crowds and participation by the community in bringing in trees and decorating them. Sandy Dunn and her family did a fantastic job of putting the event together. She provided the following info about it: The people’s choice awards were:1st - Jackie Raths "Colon Cancer Awareness Tree" 2nd - Jeanne Ennen - "Fiber Optic Our Family Tree" 3rd - Deb Root - "Doggie Treat Tree" 4th - Deb Kill - "Mini House Tree" Door Prize winners:Snowman –winners were Makayla Mau, Evelyn Underwood ;Poinsettia Plant winners were Gertie Werk, Allen Anderson .Others bringing in trees were Jan Greiner, Karen Janachovsky, Vivian Johnson, Dawn Blanchard, Allen Anderson.

On Dec 5th several of us from the area attended the holiday open house at the museum; my next stop was at the sr. center where Jim and Lou Eystad were among those helping out at the bazaar. I then traveled to Trinity in Cyrus for the WCAWA annual Advent service and dinner. Thanks to the ladies of Trinity for helping serve the meal. The next meeting will be Jan 2nd at Glenwood Lutheran in Glenwood. In the aft I traveled to Glenwood where I boarded a bus to the annual Concordia College Christmas Concert in Morehead. Thanks to Irene Sansness for organizing the event and to Thrivent for sponsoring the bus and providing the lunch.

Dec 6th Jim and Lou Eystad and I were among those from the area who participated in the Christmas carol sing a-long at St J. Enroute to the church I stopped in to visit my aunt Pearl (Albert) Anderson and Cousin Bev Hurlbut at their home in Donnelly.

Dec 7th Andy Brevig and I were among those from the area that attended the ST Co Rep party meeting at Detoy’s in Morris. The next meeting is tentatively scheduled for Jan 11th.

Jim and Lou Eystad visited her aunt Marlys Alm at her apt in Morris on Mon.
