Next edition June 28^th –July 4th

Welcome another edition of the Donnelly news;

Weather news some sunny mild weather during the past week has allowed the area to dry out some.

In St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news: there will be joint services at St John’s on June 29th at 9 a.m.; Kongsvinger July 6^th and 13^th. No bible study on the 29th.

There will be a 4^th of July celebration at Kongsvinger at 11 a.m.

Good Shepherd news: Adult Ed will resume on June 29^th.

Trinity Lutheran Church- Cyrus is sponsoring a gospel message every Wed eve through Aug 27^th with speakers from “Minn. Youth Alive” at the Venture Arts Center in Cyrus at 6:45 p.m.

St. John’s (Starbuck) Ice Cream Social will be held on June 29^th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the Menu is Pork on a Bun, Chips, Pie and Ice Cream. Tickets are available at the door.

New wine will have a homecoming concert at First Lutheran- Morris on June 29^th at 7 p.m..

Community news^: There will be A Post nuptial open house for David and Hannah (Hilton) Larson at Kong on June 29th from 2-4 p.m. They were married on June 7^th at Kongsvinger. His parents are Corrine Larson and Larry Tuffton and the late Elroy Larson, grandmother is Bertha Larson

Former Donnelly area resident Veronica Smith passed away on June 20^th local survivors include her daughter in law Marilyn Smith and her family. Mark and I attended her visitation at the funeral home on June 24^th    and I attended her funeral at Assumption –Morris on June 25^th

Former Donnelly area resident Selma Bruse passed away on June 24^th her funeral is today (Saturday) at the Methodist church in Herman.

Haley Henrichs of Morris and Olivia Reimers of Donnelly were among the students named to the dean’s list at Ridgewater College for the spring semester

Senior Bryce Jergenson of Morris Area / Chokio-Alberta was named honorable mention to the West Central Tribune’s All-Area baseball team. He and Beth Holland have also been nominated for the West Central Tribune’s Hengstler-Ranweiler Award.

Agnes Searle was the recipient of a Stevens county “pay it forward” award recently

Bennett Smith informs me that he was one of the runners from the area that took part in the Grandma’s half marathon in Duluth last week. He finished 1953 out of 7299 runners.

The threshing bee royalty were part of the old settlers’ parade in Barrett on June 21st

In the past week I attended the Kiwanis talent show, visitation for Arlene Melchert at Zion-Morris, other old settler’s reunion events in Barrett as well as visiting some of the resident of the Barrett care center. Mark and I stopped into a rummage sale on 21^st at his old house in Donnelly and met the new residents Sue Pester and her family; she said her husband works at westmor industries with Doug Cardwell.

Next edition June 21^st-27th

Welcome another edition of the Donnelly news;

Weather news: some very heavy rains over the weekend combined with some previous rains means that every low spot around here has standing water and more is predicated. It has been sunny and mild when it has not been raining. Crops look nice although some have drowned out. 

In St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news: there will be joint services at Kongsvinger on June 22nd   not at St John’s as listed in the summer worship schedule and at St John’s on June 29th at 9 a.m., no bible study on the 29th.

Good Shepherd news: Adult Ed will resume on June 29^th.

There will be a Community Bible School on June 23^rd-26^th at Zion- Morris this year co-sponsored by Zion and Good Shepherd, with staff from Lutheran Bible Camp near Henning leading it. Everyone is welcome more info contact either church.

The all- state Lutheran choir will be on tour throughout MN through June 25^th

Two upcoming bridal showers at Kongsvinger: for Laura Wolff bride to be of Brian Ennen will be held today (Saturday) from 9:30-11:30 a.m. and a Post nuptial open house for David and Hannah (Hilton) Larson on June 29th from 2-4 p.m.   They were married on June 7^th at Kongsvinger. His parents are Corrine Larson and Larry Tuffton and the late Elroy Larson, grandmother is Bertha Larson

Janice Kaehler of Morris passed away on June 12^th. Her daughter Karen (Mark) Janachovsky and family are among the many family members in the Donnelly area who survive her, Jim and Lou Eystad and I were among those who attended her funeral at St John’s on June 16^th.  My mom stayed with Janice’s grandparents when she taught in the dist. 7 school in the early ‘40’s.

The Tiger trapshooting team won the Novice Championship at the trap shooting contest in Alex recently Sam Henrichs was a member of that team finishing third individually in her division

Bryce and Brady Jergenson both pitched no hitters in baseball recently ,Bryce for the Morris legion team on June 10^th and Brady for the VFW team on June 7^th  .Many of you will remember that Bryce  also pitched a one hitter as a member of the Tiger bb team this spring.

Sydney Beyer, Maria Cin and Shadow Olson made the dean’s list at Minnesota State –Moorhead recently

The threshing bee royalty were part of the Chokio community picnic and Kensington runestone days' parades over the weekend. About a dozen of us attended the community mentoring meeting at the Morris area elementary school on June 12^th. I also attended the acria (fed tel) supper and annual meeting at the school, the pioneer land band festival in Benson, other runestone days' events, the all-state Lutheran choir concert at living word Lutheran church-Alex and the funeral for Elmer Jessnes in Wendell.  As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, my Mom stayed with the Jessnes family when she taught out in the Swan Lake township area. Mark and I attended the neighborhood picnic at Faith Lutheran on June 17^th. We both won a door prize there.

Welcome another edition of the Donnelly news; Mark and I want to wish our Dad’s a happy father’s day in Heaven.

Weather news: It has been sunny and mild most of the last week and most fields that can be planted are and most of the crop is up. However some heavy rains means that everything is very wet around here.

In St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news: there will be joint services at Kongsvinger on June  15th, 22^nd and St John’s on June 29th at 9 a.m. no bible study on the 15^th and 29th. Note that services on the 22^nd will be at Kongsvinger not St John’s as announced earlier

Good Shepherd news: Tue a.m. bible study will resume on June 17^th at 10 a.m.

There will be an open house baby shower honoring the soon to be son of Scott and Mindy (Janachovsky) Schmidt, from 10 a.m. to noon today, (Saturday), at the home of Mark and Karen Janachovsky, 15763 510th Ave, Donnelly.  Grandparents are Milford and Janice Kaehler.

Stevens’ community humane society annual meeting will be held on 6/14 at 7p.m. at the Morris senior center.

Donald Opp of Morris passed away on June 4^th survivors include his sister former Donnelly area resident Norma Osterman

Cyrus Jon Reed was born on May 28 at Stevens Community Medical Center, Morris, to Joshua and Jana Reed of Morris. Grandparents are Bob and Deb Danelz of Donnelly and Curtis and Patricia Reed of Moose Lake.

Shaylyn Johnson, Justine Huebner, Britany Cardwell, Mark Dunn and Beth Holland were some of the band students that were members of various groups that won awards at the large group festival held in Morris in March.

Sam Henrichs placed 3^rd in her class in MN clay shooting championship in Alexandria

Becca Holland was named to the west central tribune all area team.

As delegates, Joan and Jerry Kopacek attended the VFW state convention in St. Cloud June 5-8. In route they stopped to visit Jerry’s cousin Marlene Meyer.

Our threshing bee royalty were part of the Cyrus Days parade on June 7^th, after the parade I visited some with former Donnelly area resident David Jergenson. Mark & I attended the ice cream social in Donnelly and the famers’ market supper in Herman. After the social the community club had their monthly meeting as we continue making plans for the bee. In addition to the parade I also took in some other Cyrus Days activities over the weekend, and attended the Kiwanis talent contest at eastside park Ditto Hennen and her grandson preformed a piano duet in it.

Every so often I will stop into McCollar Jewelry for a visit with Wally he informs me that he is planning on having a 60th class reunion next year so if you are a member of the MHS class of ’55 or know somebody that is keep that in mind. He also informs me that he received a 20 gallon pin from the Red Cross not a 10 gal as I reported in an earlier column

Next edition June 7^th-13th

Welcome another edition of the Donnelly news;

Weather news: It has been sunny and mild most of the last week; however some places (i.e. the Morris public library) received water damage due to some localized heavy rains over the weekend.  Crop progress ranges from untouched fields, to crops already being up.

In St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news: there will be joint services at Kongsvinger on June 8^th, 15th, 22nd at 9 am followed by Bible study during coffee hour afterwards.

Good Shepherd news: reminder that our services are at 9 am every Sunday followed by coffee fellowship.

Walker Ernest Koehl was born on May 15 at Stevens Community Medical Center, Morris, to Lucas and Tracy Koehl of Morris. Grandparents are Roy and Jenell Koehl of Morris and Charles and Deb Hacker of Hancock. Great grandparents are Alice Wulf of Lester, Iowa, Don and Janet Hacker of Hancock, and Wanda LeSage of Phoenix, Ariz. His great-great grandmother Millie LeSage was the first Donnelly news correspondent eons ago.

The tiger girls track team finished 7th at the section meet Beth Holland, Kourtney Geise, Rebecca and Savannah Aanerud all finished in the top 15 in their events either individually or as members of a relay team.  All Tiger sports teams are finished for the year it has been enjoyable covering them again this year.

Among the Tiger trap shooters that qualified for the 2014 championship in Alexandria are Brittany Cardwell, Lindsay Flogstad, Kourtney Giese, and Sam Heinrichs,

Beth Holland, Kortney Giese ,Rebekah and Savannah Aanerud are members of the Tigers girls track team that finished 5^th in section 5A true team meet in early May and tied for first in the sub section team meet held at UMM last week. They all finished in the top ten in both meets either individually or a member of a relay team. Beth, Rebecca, and Savannah advanced to the section meet.  The boys placed 6^th at the true team and won the subsection meet. Dalton Lupke is a member of that team

The Donnelly ladies were well represented in the Memorial Day services. At the Armory Liz Aschman presented flowers to the Gold Star Families. Jeanne Ennen and Pat [Mark] Smith carried the VFW AUX Flag and Banner, Jerry and Joan Kopacek marched with smaller flags in the possession to Summit cemetery and Joan participated in the cemetery program. John Kopacek was Staging Officer for the ladies and he also assisted with cemetery program preparations

Past week Jim and Lou Eystad attended the graduation open house for Katlin
 Vogel, visited her aunt Marlys alm at the West wing village and we attended the 75^th birthday party for Chuck Spohr at the Morris senior center. Over the weekend Mark was able to see his old farmstead and the Herman school two places he had not seen in over 30 years. I attended the open house for Beth Holland at the old # 1 Southside, and the funeral for Eileen Jessnes in Wendell, my mom stayed with the Jessnes family when she taught at a school out in Swan Lake Township.

Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news;

Corrections: Corrections: Rev A.J. Kluver and I traveled to Perham on May 10^th and Wally McCollar received a 20 gallon from the bloodmobile

Weather news: for the first time this spring we have had multiple days of sunny warm weather. Personally I still have not seen much in the way of fieldwork yet or even a lot of evidence of it, saw a lot of untouched fields in my trip to and from Donnelly on Tue.

In St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news: The summer worship schedule with weekly joint services at 9 a.m. alternating between the churches  starts on May 25^th at St. John’s and continues at Kongsvinger on June 1^st, 8th, 15th and 22^nd  See the May newsletter for the complete schedule.

Good Shepherd news. There will be a 75^th birthday party for Chuck Spohr (Pr. Mike’s father in law) on May 25^th from 2:30-5 p.m. at the Morris senior center. No gifts please.

Other church news: There will be a community vacation bible school on June 23-26^th co- sponsored by Good Shepherd and Zion-Morris at Zion with staff from Lutheran Island bible camp –Henning leading the activities. Everyone is welcome 

Fund raising is under way for the “feed my starving children” packing event which will return to Morris again this year in August. Contact the Morris e Free church for more info.

Former Donnelly area resident, Alice (Devick) Hallman of Morris passed away on May 18^th. Several of us from the Donnelly area were among those who attended her funeral at the Pedersen funeral home on May 22^nd.

Ag country scholarship winner is Rebekah Aanerud; Carly Gullickson was named a recipient of a 2014 Road to Success Scholarship from Bremer Insurance of Morris and Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company of Grinnell, Iowa.

The Morris –Benson area storm squirts hockey team won first place at the MN. Hockey showcase held recently, Brady Loge was a member of that team, his dad Ryan was a coach.

Business professionals of America ambassador torch bearers were Dalton Lupke and Carly Gullickson

Isabelle Eve Marlow was born on May 5, at Stevens Community Medical Center, Morris, to Matt Marlow and Tracy Hagen of Chokio. Grandparents are Bud and Carol Marlow of Chokio, Janet Hagen and former Donnelly area resident Gary Ritzschke of Kensington

Tiger track at the west central conference meet the girls placed second, the boys third; Rebecca and Savanah Aanerud, Kortney Geise and Beth Holland are members of that team who finished in the top ten individually and/or as members of relay teams, in the   boys Dalton Lupke was a member of 4x800 that finished ninth.

May 22^nd I was one of the guests of Wally McCollar at Buddies Bar and Grill in Hancock for a surprise 87^th birthday party for Helen Peterson of Hancock.

I plan to recognize Donnelly area graduates in a future column if you have one you please let me know especially if it a post -h.s graduate. Also let me know about any upcoming open houses.

Some of the events I attended in the past week in the area include open houses at Valu Ford, SCMC, Amundon Peterson, the “buck of cancer” horse show at fairgrounds; Logan benefit, GSLC SS picnic, visitation and funeral for Vern Krupke, EMT open house at the ambulance garage, and the Kummrow benefit.

Next edition: May 17^th-23rd

Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news;

Weather news: cool and wet are the operative words for the weather for the past few week as we have had rain off and on for much of it and temps are still on the cool side. Some farmers have gotten some fields planted, I see the wheat is up on the field by the threshing bee grounds but not much has been done this week. At least we did not get the foot of snow that a former Donnelly area resident in WY reported they got out there.

In St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news:  our graduates will be recognized during joint services on May 18^th, at 9 a.m., at Kongsvinger and at a   brunch afterwards in the parish hall. There will be Joint services at St. John’s on May 25^th at 9 a.m.

Details on the summer schedule will be announced later.

Good Shepherd news. May18th is the last day of Sunday school; to celebrate, there will be a potluck dinner at Green River Park at noon with games and other events to follow. We will also be recognizing our graduate(s) during services.

Other church news: the last performance of the new wine dessert theater at first Lutheran –Morris is tonight (Saturday). Dessert at 6 p.m. shows at 7 p.m. tickets available at either first or faith Lutheran churches.

There will be a community vacation bible school on June 23-26^th co- sponsored by Good Shepherd and Zion-Morris at Zion with staff from Lutheran Island bible camp –Henning leading the activities.

Graveside services for Cathy Elgin will be held at 11 a.m. today (Saturday) at Calvary cemetery in Morris, she passed away on Jan. 17^th.

James Ruplinger, of Alex passed away on May 10^th survivors include his daughter Amy (brad) Searle of Morris and their family

Laurie Ellen Kaehler passed away at home in Petaluma, California on May 7^th; survivors include her brother in law Milford (Janice) Kaehler and his family.

Other celebrations: the Morris FFA chapter placed first in the ag literacy challenge and received the ninth overall chapter award program at the MN state FFA convention Rebekah Aanerud received 3^rd place in ag communications; Beth Holland received a state FFA degree and was named region 3 star in agri business; and Savannah Aanerud won 1^st place in creed and will advance to the nationals.  Many other Donnelly area kids were among the members of the chapter that brought home a “boatload” of awards from the convention either individually and/or as members of teams in career development. There are too many to list here.

The tiger girls and boys track teams took first in Ortonville; Kourtney Geise ; Beth Holland; Savannah and Rebecca Aanerud are members of the team that placed in the top 6 in their events either individually and/or as a member of relay teams.

The Donnelly community club had their monthly meeting on May 12^th.  As we talked about plans for next year the general consensus was that we would feature everything made in 1965(cars, trucks, tractors, machinery etc.) the next meeting is June 9^th at the community hall. This year’s bee is Aug. 23rd & 24^th, and we will be featuring Ford.

About two dozen of us attended the community mentoring meeting in Morris on May 8^th. The next one is June 12^th same place and time

May 10th I met Pr. AJ  Kluver of Living word Lutheran church-Alex in Evansville from there we traveled to New Creations Lutheran church in Perham for a presentation by DR. Steve Paulson of Luther seminary

I plan to recognize Donnelly area graduates in a future column if you have one you please let me know especially if it a post h.s graduates

Every so often I stop into McCollar Jewelry to visit with Wally for a while one of the things he tells me is that he is planning on putting together a 60^th class reunion for the MHS class of ’55 next year so if you are a member of the class or know somebody from there be sure to keep that in mind. Also I made an error last week he received a 20 gal pin from the Red Cross

In the past week I have attended the Hancock all- town rummage sales; the spring fling at Herman-Norcross school and the ground breaking ceremony at the wwv and visited some of the residents there afterwards.
