donnelly news

Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news.

Weather news: The weather continues to be almost ideal sunny warm days and enough rain to freshen things up. The crops that were on display at the Herman fair looked fantastic the best I can remember seeing there in a long time. Thankfully there has been no severe weather in our immediate area.

STJ/KONG PARISH NEWS: VBS kickoff will be on Aug 1st when Bethel of Herman will join the parish for joint services at St J at 10:30 am. Staff from Luther Crest will be leading the services followed by a potluck dinner. Communion services will be held on Aug 8th at both churches. This is a change from what was announced in the summer schedule.

Bethel of Herman will be joining the parish again this yr for VBS AUG 1-6TH from 9 am to 3 PM at St J conducted by staff from Luther Crest.

There will be a sweet corn feed at Trinity of Alberta on Aug 1st from 5-7 PM

WAM will meet on Aug 7th at Trinity of Benson (700 NV) coffee at 9:30 am meeting at 10 am; the program will be a DVD presentation by Dr Buda director for Africa national ministries of the ElCA.

Craig and Lori (Backman) Eveslage would like to invite you to an open house wedding dance beginning at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 7 at the Best Northland Prairie Inn in Morris. Everyone welcome

The following events will take place today (Sat) at 10:30 am

 

A committal service for Wilma L. Matejka will be held at summit cemetery in Morris followed by a lunch at the Eddie Kopel farm (56845 150th st) of rural Donnelly

Funeral services for Donna Eystad Bahr of Morris who passed away on July 26th will be held at First Lutheran in Morris. Survivors include three sons Jamey (Kathy), Lee (Donna) and Robert (Bernie) Eystad of Donnelly and their families. Her family has owned and operated Eystad Trucking in Donnelly for many yrs.

Funeral services for Melvin Wholers of Morris who also passed away on July 26th will be held at Assumption. Among his survivors is a granddaughter Kayla (Aaron) Erdahl of Donnelly

Geneva Vesterby of Chokio passed away on July 23rd. Marge (Trost) Sperr and her family are among the family members that survive her, she and Harold were cousins.

Mandon Michael was born to Mike and Jen Cihaz on July 9th. Grandparents are Glen and Judy Henrichs

The don community club will meet on Aug 9th at 7 PM at the town hall.

The primary elections will be held on Aug 10th most Donnelly area residents will vote at the town hall in Donnelly.

Congratulations to the 18u SB team that won the championship in Alex recently. Megan Mecklenberg is a member of that team.

Congratulations to the following who won championships at the grant co fair Kenton and Breaden Long (4-h) Janet Hoernemenn (open class) and Andy Brevig who won the sweepstakes award in the open class hort building for his produce. Courtney Lehman (nick and Laura) took 2nd place in her age group in the kid’s tr. pull

Congratulations to the VFW bb that finished runner up in the dist contest. Tom Holland and Brady Bahr (Scott and Kathy) were members of that team

Congratulations to the Angles Little league bb team that won the league tournament. Levin Strand and Kellen Erdahl were members of that team; Kellen's dad Brian was an ast. coach. Brain's parents are Steve and Sue Erdahl -Nelson his grandmother is Bernice. The royals were runner up's Dakota Lupke (Mary (Alan) Uphoff) was a member of that team. The tigers finished third Jerrod and Brock Anderson and Brady Jergenson were members of that team and his dad Rob was the coach. Jerrod and Brock's parents are Jeff and Ali, grandparents are Ardell and Jerry Anderson great grandmother is Dorothy Jergenson.

Congratulations to Bob Leegard who was recently elected as chairman of the RTA board. His mother is Thelma

The Donnelly threshing bee is Aug 28 and 29th. Advance sale buttons are now on sale at various businesses in Donnelly. Posters are available at HD & co in Donnelly. Sat activities start with a pancake breakfast and conclude with a dance at the hall featuring "pure country". Sun starts out with an open air church service and concludes with the popular horse and pony pull and there will be plenty of activities going on both days including some new ones such as an amazing race and kids games. This yrs feature is Allis Chalmers. a reminder that any one is welcome to bring displays,do demonstrations, play ,sing ,have a unit in the parade etc.

I attended the funeral for Ruth Sands on July 22nd at the funeral home ,the group work camp closing program at Edison auditorium on the umm campus on the 23rd and some of the crazy day activities in Morris on the 28th.

Joyce Steuck and I were among the many from the area that took in some of the events at the Grant Co Fair in Herman over the weekend. On Sat at the fair I had the opportunity to visit with Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Gregerson of Mpls. who were up visiting family and friends in the area. They do plan to return for the threshing Bee. Jeff and Brenda Volker and family were among those who attended the Volker /deveirs family reunion at the pavilion in Herman on the 24th.

The Threshing Bee royalty were among the participants in the Watterma parade in Glenwood on July 25th.
