donnelly news

Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news  this being thanksgiving week I want to say Manga Takk to all my loyal readers out there who have helped make this column a success.

Weather news:   some cold winds and near 0 temps during the past week are vivid reminders that we live in Minnesota.  Most farmers are done with their work for the year there are still a few with some crops to harvest and some fall tillage to be done others are busy doing some ditching tiling etc.


ST John’s/Kongsvinger news: the Kongsvinger fall festival is Nov 24th
, beginning at 11 a.m.  On the menu grilled pork chops, baked potatoes, hot dishes and salad, there will be a bake sale and raffle items. Tickets available at the door


Good Shepherd news:  Mission of the month is “Haiti Mission to the Nation’s” Coffee money is going to gift/mitten tree youth project.

Thanksgiving eve services will be held at Good Shepherd and also at Kongsvinger at 7 pm on Nov 27th. Good shepherd offering will go the Philippines relief effort Kongsvinger will go to the Stevens county food shelf

Other church news Thrivent for Lutherans invites you to a Christmas story by jean shepherd on Dec 8th at 2 pm at the Alex Area Arts Association, more info contact the Thrivent office at 589-1731.

Celebrations tiger volleyball awards Beth Holland defensive Most Valuable Player and west central conference all conference; tiger football Gage Backman outstanding defense and all -conference

Mackenzie Smith was named MSU /Courtyard by Marriott “athlete of the week”. She fished 44th out of 203 runners at the central region meet in Sioux Falls SD

Deann Recker was named co support staff member of the year at Morris area schools at a recent staff recognition event she also honored for 20 years of service Vicky Beyer was one of the other nominees. Other recognized include Sharon Carlson (35 years), Kayla Erdahl (5 years), Sharon Carlson (10 years), and Kris Kloos (15 years).

Ezekiel Craig Swanson was born on Nov 4th to Amy and Craig Swanson of Morris. Grandparents are Ralph and Mary Huebner, great- grand mother is Joyce Strand

The threshing bee royalty, and the St John’s/ Kongsvinger youth group, were among the participants in the parade of Lights on Nov `14th.  Before and after the parade I attended some of the open houses around town. 

Nov 17th I attended the Thrivent workshop at the Old # 1 Southside in the aft and in the eve the Stevens county Ag society meeting as they start making plans for next year’s fair. 
Nov 18th Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended the final bible study on revelations at good shepherd.

For the next few months I will be writing an abbreviated column as I take some time off to catch up on some work and other things.

I had a request for the names of the Donnelly fire department fire and rescue squad I have posted a copy of the letter that was sent out to Donnelly area residents with the names on it on the Donnelly news face book page
