Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news. Due to the large amount of news this week I have had to omit the long list of “honorees” I had this week I will post them on my blog and hopefully have an opportunity to recognize them in a future column
Weather news: Mar has definitely come in like a lion with cold temps and some stormy weather. I think by now just about everybody is getting tired of never ending winter we are experiencing this year,
STJ/KONG PARISH News: The parish will be participating in the MN food share campaign during Mar. carts are locate in the narthex of ea. church in which to place nonperishable food items for the food shelf or You can also make a financial donation
The mar newsletter is now out extra copies are available in the narthex of ea. church.
Ash wed services will be on Mar 9th at Kong beginning at 7 pm with a lunch to follow. Services will alternate between st J (16th) and Kong (23rd) each week
St J welca will hold their annual st pat’s day lunch and entertainment at the WWV on Mar 17th at 2:15 pm
GSLC news: Staring on Mar 9th and continuing throughout the Lenten season members of the church will join with members of St J of rural starbuck for services at St J. The eve starts with a light supper (if planning on attending please rsvp to 795-2477) at 6 pm (free will offering) followed by Lenten services at 7 pm. For more info call 589-1461
WAM will meet today (sat), at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home with coffee at 9:30 am program at 10 am. The speaker will be Pr. Julie Smith, from the Institute for Lutheran Theology, the new seminary in Brookings, S.D. She will also be the guest speaker at gslc on Mar 6th and have a forum after services. The glacial ridge conf. of the ELCA will meet on Mar 13th @ 2 pm at Trinity Lutheran church in Cyrus,
“Physical and spiritual beauty with Karen and Kevin Leaf will be held at the Hosanna worship center in Morris from 10 am -3 pm for tickets or more info call shelly at 585-5951
West central Lutheran homes will have their annual meeting on Mar 13th @ 2 pm in the fireside room at First Lutheran in Morris
Allisia Melberg will present a program “Researching Families in West Central Minnesota” at the st co museum today (sat) at 10 a.m. on Mar. 12th .The movie “tales of the last river rat” will be shown there on Mar 13th @1:30 pm for more info about either event call 589-1719
Donnelly and other area townships will have their annual meetings/elections on Mar 8th. For more info contact your town clerk or your county auditor’s office.
The following events will take place on Mar 7th in Donnelly: the bookmobile will be in town @ 3:30 pm; the red haters will meet at 1 pm at “a place to be” (bring a favorite flower seed packet); the Donnelly city council and Rendsville 4-h will meet at 7 pm at the hall and fire hall.
Evelyn Kopel informs me that the homemakers will meet at her house in Donnelly on Mar 10th at 2 pm for more info call her at 246-3310
The red hatters will have a st pat’s day party on Mar 17th at Denny’s in Herman at 1:30 pm for pie day Dutch treat.
Habit for humanity is sponsoring a “build your burger night” at the Old#1 on Mar 10th from 4-7 pm free will offering. They will also have a special story time with Miss Midwest Rachel sands on Mar 17th at the Morris public library for more info call 392-5451
The Donnelly community club will have their annual meeting on Mar 7th at the Donnelly hall beginning with supper at 6:30 pm meeting to follow. For more info call 795-2437. If unable to attend you can mail your dues to the don com club Donnelly MN.
Lloyd Stier of Donnelly passed away on Feb 23rd. a memorial gathering will be held on Mar 6th at 2 pm at the community center in Hoffman.
Ralph Jipson of Graceville passed away on Feb 24th. A sister Myrta Diehl is among the family members that survive him.
Larry Rohloff of Atwater passed away on Feb 26th. His step mother Ardeth (Anderson) Rohloff is among the family members that survive him.
Mitchell Rohloff and Courtney Johnson are engaged to married on Aug. 20 in Brookings sd. Parents of the couple are LuAlan and Shawn Rohloff of Morris and Diana Johnson of Tulare, S.D. step grandmother is Ardeth Rohloff of Morris formerly of the Donnelly area
I have another long list of accomplishment to acknowledge this week so congratulations go out to: ; Thelma Leegard who named queen of the good Sam home in Hoffman on Feb. 14th; the h-n usat team that finished 2nd in st Cloud. Keaton Long and Levin strand are members of that team; to Samantha Larson who was named to the a honor roll at h-n h. to Amy Kloos on the opening of her new business "hair expressions" at 714 Atlantic ave. in Morris; to Melanie van horn citizenship( freshman); Becca Holland most improved (7th grade) for being named students of the quarter at mahs and to Brady cardwell who won third place in the weboles division of the cub scouts annual pinewood derby on Feb. 13th at heartland motors
On Feb 25th Andy brevig and I attended the Westrom/Inglebreigtsen town hall meeting at Detoy’s in Morris and later the co-op meeting at the Donnelly hall. Thanks to the KCLW for the delicious meal they served.
Jim and Lou Eystad and I were among the good crew that helped with the cleanup at the site of the new gslc on Feb 26th. It was truly a case of “many hands make light work as the church” was literally cleaned from top to bottom and much of the fellowship hall was painted. Another workday is planned for the near future to do more painting and other odd jobs. On the 27th we attended services at gslc and on the 28th the community meal at the sr. center in Morris.
Jim and Lorraine Aanerud and I attended the “answers in genesis” conference on the 27th and 28th at the Maes musical hall and at the Hosanna worship center
Thanks to bob burner for the following info. The co-op experienced its second best year ever with a net income of over $345,000. Carol boelend from Hennen and associates presented the annual report. Mike Lonergan a director for 9 yrs. completed his term and was replaced by Paul Daly, Chris smith was reelected to the board. Guest speaker Todd Monroe dist. manager Cenex energy sales and lubricants gave a very informative presentation about Cenex 5w-40 full synthetic diesel oil and the warranty program they are offering for those users. Joe Altrich was recognized for 53 yrs. of service to the Donnelly co-op. Dave Whitmore will be replacing him in the agronomy dept. after 17 years as custom applicator his son Erick will replace him. Joel Schmidt has been hired to replace David Haynes who passed away about a year ago in the LP department. In Dec 2010 the Donnelly co-op paid $170,000 to those 70 years of age and older, at the meeting patrons received $95,000 in 30% cash dividends. In the past five years the don co-op has reinvested $850,000 in fixed asset back into the company along with retiring $720,00 to it patrons

DONNELLY NEWS
Next edition Feb 20th –Feb 26th
Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news. A quick reminder to check out my blog ;( (DonnellyMinn.blogspot.com). I have more and updated news from the area on it.
It was another stormy weekend with difficult travel conditions in the area esp. on Sun and Mon. Thankfully the forecast calls for some milder weather in the near future. A huge thank you to my neighbors for all the times they have blown out my driveway this winter it has been greatly appreciated.

STJ/KONG PARISH NEWS: Parish Bible study on Psalms 23 continues on Thursday’s at St J (10 am) and will be repeated at Kong @ 7 PM
Parish Lenten services “The sign of Jonah” with supper at 5:30 pm and services at 6:45 Pm will continue through Easter. Supper and Services will alternate ea week between Kong (Feb 24th) and St J (Mar 3rd).
Services with Holy Communion will be held on Feb 21st at both churches not during joint services on Feb 28th as stated in the newsletter. Services on the 28th will be at 11 am at St J with the S.S. kids singing. It will also be broadcast on KMRS at 11am sponsored by Don and Algene Larson in memory of Arden Larson and Albert and Ellen Mishcike
The Area Lutheran youth org will be going “night” bowling in Graceville on Feb 21. Meet at Our Savior’s in Chokio at 5 pm for supper and a game before traveling to Graceville for more info contact Sandy Dunn at 246-3292 or the parish office
The Feb parish newsletter containing the full Lenten schedule is now available . The schedule is also posted on the doors of ea church. Extra copies are available in the narthex of ea church
The Feb edition of the Meyer Mission news was recently sent out. Copies are available in the narthex of both churches and on my blog, for you the read. In it is a report about their recent trip to Uganda
The Donnelly Community club supper and annual meeting will be held on Mar 1st at Sax’s cafĂ© beginning with supper at 6:30 pm meeting to follow. Please rsvp to 246-3217.
The St Co DFL county convention will be held on Mar 6th at 9 am at the legion in Morris.
The Niemackel Lake board will be holding a pancake breakfast fundraiser on Mar 21st at the Legion in Herman.
NHAS (the elevator) will hold their annual meeting at the Prairie inn in Morris on Feb 23rd beginning with a noon meal.
The Donnelly co-op will have their annual meeting on Feb 26th at the hall beginning with a noon meal.
The 2010 RTA phone books are now out extra copies are available at the bank in Donnelly.
Congratulations to Bernice Erdahl and Andy Brevig who were recently installed as officers in the Sons of Norway lodge
Congratulations to Levin Strand and Keaton Long who were 5th grade winners at the H_N spelling bee. Levin won the overall bee and will represent the school at the regional bee in Fergus Falls
Congratulations to Breadon Long who was recently selected to participate in the west central Minn. middle school honor choir.
Congratulations to Christa Bahr who recently won two scholarships at the Alex tech for spring 2010 semester.
Congratulations to Jake Long who won his class championship at the Tiger invitational in Morris recently.
Feb 13th Andy Brevig, Steve Fults and I were among those who attended the St Co Rep party central committee meeting on Feb 13th where we finalized plans for the county convention.
A good crowd was on hand for the Daytona party at the Donnelly Hall on Feb 14th,
Jim and Lou Eystad attended the St J annual meeting on Feb 7th and the adopted grandparents’ event at Kong on Feb 14th. Lou says two of her aunts are celebrating birthday’s this wk; one of my predecessors Millie Lesage was 93 on Nov 17th and Marlys Alm was 95 on Feb 19th. She is now home.
Nancy Sheir and two of her daughters came Thursday and are spending a few days visiting with their mother and grandmother Pearl A. Anderson at her home in Donnelly. Larry and Peggy Wilke recently stopped in to visit her when they got home from AZ.
