donnelly news

Apr 28th-May 5th
Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news. ,
Since everything from community events to church services has been postponed or canceled due to the Coronavirus, I have decided not to list any events for the foreseeable future. Before you plan to attend any events I have listed in past columns, please check to make sure they are still on. Since everything is constantly changing, please listen to local media and /or check fb posts for any updated info. Also, some meetings may be held virtually.
Weather News: spring is slow to arrive this year, still have a lot of cold days and too cold for any real fieldwork yet although I have seen a couple of farmers applying some fertilizer
Until further notice, there will be no services and events at St. John's and Kongsvinger, Donnelly; Gslc, Morris, or any other church in the area. Some churches, pastors in the area are posting devotions, "services," etc. on places like Facebook, YouTube, etc. GSLC is going to have a parking lot service every Sun at 10 a.m. at the church, and there is also a community service at the MAES parking lot at 9:30 a.m.  KMRS will broadcast that service
If you planned to purchase an Easter lily for Kongsvinger this year, instead, you can donate the price of one ($13) to the Kongsvinger furnace fund in memory or honor of someone. Contact the parish office for more info.
St John's/Kongsvinger will honor our graduates from the parish in the May newsletter. If you have a graduate from h.s. or higher-ed this year, please let the parish office know a.s.a.p.,   I will have my annual graduation edition in early June again if you want to give me their names.
Rev. Mike Nelson is scheduled to have his farewell service on May 2nd at 9:30 a.m. at Kongsvinger, followed by a potluck dinner and program. It is unknown at this point in time if that will take place.
May 7th is the national day of prayer, unsure if there will be any local activities.
May 2nd is the new date for all Republican Congressional district meetings which are all going to be virtual ones, contact your local BPOU chair if you want more info about attending them
Becca Holland was a co-winner of the cougar excellence award at UMM
No Stevens County genealogical society meetings until Sept.
Thanks to Kopecks for this: Sandy Kopel was elected Trustee at the April VFW Auxiliary meeting.
She joins Kay Jacobson and Jack Kopacek. Sandy replaces long –time Trustee Liz Ascheman who continues as the Patriotic Instructor. Joan Kopacek continues as President, Janet Malo, as Treasurer, Helen Kill as Secretary, and Phyllis Rickmeyer as Chaplain.

Postponed: The annual May VFW Buddy Poppy drive to a later date

Monday the 20th, Jack Kopacek opened the garage door, backed out the car and ran over a skunk that had been locked in there since Saturday. No smell detected.
Looking back Apr.24th 2015

Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news.
Weather news: well, the past week has been another reminder of Minnesota's Ever-changing weather going from summer-like weather with temps in the '70's, back to more winter-like winter with temps in the 30's cold NW winds and some light snow.
