Weather news: Well in contrast to the Christmas weekend, the
New Year’s one was fairly mild and storm free. However the start of the New Year has brought
very cold temps and wind chills , several inches of snow, and some blowing and
drifting
St. John’s Kongsvinger news:The annual meetings are as
follows: St. John’s on January 22nd
,at noon following worship
services; note change of service times for that day only; Kongsvinger at 8:30 a.
m. and St. John’s at 11 a.m.. The Kongsvinger meeting is on January 29th
,about noon following services ,both meetings will be followed by a potluck
dinner
Good shepherd news : the ski trip has been rescheduled for
January 8th ,meet at Andes at 1 p.m. for a group rate ,to register or for more
info contact Elysia Woodke at 320-815-5485. The Sunday school will have an egg bake fundraiser for the
youth , after services, on January 15th. There will be a fundraising breakfast
(French toast, sausages etc. ) on January 29th
after services (about 10:30 a.m.) for the Ronald McDonald house proceeds
will provide food supplies for the people staying there. Matching funds
provided by Thrivent, both events are free will donation
Community events: The bookmobile will be in town on January
16th on Main St. at 3:45 p.m.
Habit for humanity fundraising pancake breakfast January
15th at the Morris Legion from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. free will offering
There are two upcoming Rising up Stevens County events: the
first is a free pool party at the Regional Fitness Center pool in Morris on
January 14th from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. co-sponsored by the Donnelly Rod and Gun club
and the second is a Hot dish cook-off on January 24th at Faith Lutheran Morris
starting with entries at 4:30 p.m. meal at 5:30 p.m. tickets available at the
door more info about either event call the Rusc office at 585-7872
The Stevens County Republican Party convention will be on
February 10th at the Morris legion at
7 p.m.
Donnelly Rod and Gun club annual ice fishing tournament will
be held on Pomme De Terre (Perkins) Lake on January 21st from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
register by January 18th for early bird drawing, there is also a raffle
associated with the contest ,for more info or to buy a ticket talk to Craig
Awsumb at Super Valu or any member of the Rod and Gun club.
Death notices: former Donnelly area resident Robert (Bobby)
Koepke of Orlando FL. passed away Dec 12th; survivors include his foster
brother Mark Koepke of Morris. His parents were the former Stan and Elsie
Koepke of the Herman/Donnelly area
Former Donnelly resident Deloris Weinreis of Morris passed
away on December 30th survivors include her husband Jim of Morris. They used to
own and operate the corner café in Donnelly; her memorial service is January
21st at 1:30 p.m. at the West Wing Village (Villa)
Former Donnelly area resident Marlene (Frank) Bruland of
Starbuck passed away on January 3rd. Her parents were the late John and Ellen
Frank of the Donnelly area. Survivors include her cousin Dorothy (Sam)
Johrdhiem of Donnelly and their family. Her funeral is today (Sat.) at 10:30
a.m.at Trinity Lutheran -Cyrus

Nevaeh Rayn Jensen was born on December 23, 2016 at Stevens
Community Medical Center in Morris to Christeena Jensen and John Higgins of
Morris. Grandparents are Scott Jensen of
Detroit Lakes, Theresa Pagel of Morris, and Micheal and Cheryl Higgins of
Donnelly.
Past week Opal harstad visitation and funeral, at the
funeral home and Faith-Morris, helped with Naps at the sr. center, BBB at the
met lounge
