Next edition Aug. 2nd-8th
Welcome another edition of the Donnelly news;
Weather news: No sooner had I sent in my column last week then we got some rain. We have not had anything major since then.  Crops in the area look really good.
In St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news: There will be joint services at Kong on Aug. 3rd and 10th at 9 am. Bp. Anderson will be the guest speaker on Aug. 3rd.followed by a question and answer forum.

Good shepherd news: be sure to “vote” for Ethan Hufford in the “options for women” adorable baby contest at the Stevens county fair.

Leah Marie Winther was born on July 14 at Douglas County Hospital to Ryan and Jill Winther of Herman. Grandparents are Paul and Nancy Thompson of Herman, Bob Winther of Herman and the late Virginia Winther.  Great-grandparents are Glen and Gertie Werk of Donnelly and Beverly Winther of Redwood Falls.
Bentley Lee Brunelle was born on July 22 at Stevens Community Medical Center, Morris, to McKayla Smith of Morris and Terry Brunelle of Webster, S.D. Grandparents are Terry Brunelle Sr. and Sherrie DeRossett of Colorado and Cara Smith and Michael Smith of Morris.
Arla Olson of Clinton passed away on July 25th survivors include her niece Jan (Rollie) Greiner and their family of Donnelly.  She was preceded in death by her brother Paul Ersted Sr.
Former Donnelly area resident Brenda Wente passed away on July 25th. Her parents are Dick and Linda Wente of Donnelly; I attended her visitation on July 29th
The Mets were Little League champs this year, Brady Loge was a member of that team his dad Ryan was the coach; Raths Brothers construction were elementary Softball champs; Kamren Speer was a member of that team. Morris 2 was the 18u and under consolation champs, Brooke Gillespie was a member of that team, her mother Judy was the coach
Fishing league champs slump busters first - team members included Ryan Smith, Nancy Kisgen; the Reef Hawgs were 2nd team members were Sid Wilcox, Mac and Joel Beyer

Community news:  Wally McCollar informs me he has been talking to some of his fellow MHS ’55 classmates about a 60th reunion next year the general consensus seemed to be to have it during the weekend of the Morris fair
Threshing bee royalty were part of watererma parade in Glenwood, while there I ran into Les Cin and we visited for a while he is living in Glenwood now near where his wife is.
Our threshing bee will be Aug 23rd and 24th the feature this year is Ford, advance sale buttons are on sale at various business in Donnelly. We are working on getting posters up in the area I will leave some at McCollar Jewelry here in Morris if anybody wants one or get in touch with me and I will make sure you get some.
The event starts on Aug. 23rd with our annual pancake breakfast and tracotorcade, and continues with various events thought out the day: softball and cornhole tournaments, kiddie and regular tractor pulls and ending with a queen coronation at the depot and a dance at the hall in the eve. We have a new dance band this year “DC and Hawk” will replace “pure country” which has disbanded. Any one is welcome to bring a display, demonstrate, provide music etc. I will high- lite Sunday events next week

There will be workdays on the grounds on Aug 19th and 26th at 6:30 pm.  Any help before during and after the bee is greatly appreciated.
The threshing bee royalty candidates will be introduced on Aug. 11th prior to the community club meeting
Aug 4th the city council and rendsville 4-h will meet at 7pm and the bookmobile will be in town @3:30 pm
July 28th I met my friend Mark and his sister Linda O ‘Kane of Fennimore Wis. and her sister in law Sue Steiner, from Rockford, Illinois for lunch at Detoys, later we visited my aunt Pearl in her apartment in Morris. On July 29th the four of us were joined by Esther Gilbertson, Gary Volker and Cal and Jan Baumgartner for dinner at the Pizza ranch in Morris. We had breakfast together on July 30th before she and Sue left for a trip to the black hills.  She hopes that she and her brothers can return next year for the Herman all school reunion.

donnelly news

Next edition July 26th –Aug 1st
Welcome another edition of the Donnelly news;
Weather news: well for the first time in a long time we went a whole week without more than a few sprinkles fortunately we escaped the severe weather Alex and some other places had this week.  The crops and garden produce that were entered at the open class at the Herman fair sure looked good.
In St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news: There will be joint services at St John’s on July 27th at 9 a.m. Due to a fall Bp. Anderson was unable to make it to services at St John’s on July 20th; he has been tentatively rescheduled for joint services at Kongsvinger on Aug 3rd
The parish was recently recognized as being #10 in the state for food and funds donated in the Minn. food share March program
The “Kongsvinger Krusaders” were one of the teams that were part of the relay for life at Pomme De Park on July 18th/19th.

First and Faith Lutheran churches-Morris will have Vacation bible school from July 28th August 1st at Faith
Community news: The annual block party coordinated by the St. John’s/ Kongsvinger parish will be held at the Threshing bee grounds in Donnelly today (sat). A meal of hot dogs, beans, chips etc. will be served starting at about 4 p.m. and continue until about 7 p.m. with the Ophoven family of Grand Rapids MN playing and singing during the meal. There will also be a beanbag tournament. There will be a free will offering for the Stevens county food shelf matching funds by Donnelly Cenex. Note the sb game has been cancelled.
Kellan Nathan Long was born on July 15 at Stevens Community Medical Center, Morris, to Nathan Long and Shana Stevens of Kensington. Grandparents are Sherman and Sherry Long of Hoffman and Vicki Ackerson of Kensington and Jim Rosby of Blaine. Great grandparents include Virginia Long of Morris,
  Shaelyn Rose Schmitz was born July 19 to Steve and Chandra Schmitz from Sauk Centre, MN. Grandparents are Jim and Julie Busse from Appleton, Great Grandparents are Verle (Della) and the late Helen Dunn, from Donnelly,

Maxine Golombiecki of Donnelly passed away Saturday, July 12th her funeral is today (Saturday) at St Mary’s- Chokio.
Irene Blocher of Starbuck passed away on July 21st Survivors include her grandson Jarrod (Heidi) (Kopel) of Fergus and their family. I attended her visitation in starbuck on July 23rd later visited Darlene Christofferson at her home in Starbuck

Jean Ritzschke was given the “pay if forward” award recently her husband Bob is a former Donnelly area resident.
Some grand champion winners at the Herman fair included Eliane Harstad, Micah, Savannah, and Rebekah Aanerud
The threshing bee royalty were part of the Grant county fair parade in Herman where I spent much of the weekend. The threshing bee buttons are here and can be purchased at various businesses in Donnelly, they will also be for sale at the block party. There are posters for the bee up in Donnelly. The dates are Aug. 23rd and 24th the feature is Ford, next year it will be anything from 1965 as we celebrate our 50th anniversary. The candidates for threshing bee queen and little Miss Donnelly will be introduced on Aug 11 prior to the community club meeting.

The Stevens County Republican Party had a meeting on July21st at detoy’s as we started making plans for our fair booth.  Anyone who is willing to sit in the booth can call Dan at 218-766-7989. As I was on my way home I ran into my old farm neighbor Steve Loge and we had an opportunity to visit for a few minutes

Next edition July 19th-25th
Welcome another edition of the Donnelly news;
Weather news the weather has been very pleasant for the past week although It has turned cooler this week. Crops continue to look good; farmers are busy spraying and haying.
In St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news: There will be joint services at St John’s on July 20th (Bp. Jon Anderson will be the guest preacher) (no bible study) and on the 27th at 9 a.m. There will be coffee hour and Bible study after services at the host church unless otherwise announced
Good Shepherd news: There will be no bible study on July 22nd as Pr Mike will be at continuing education at Mt. Carmel Bible camp. Pr Mike along with some chaperones and youth returned from a trip out to a Bible camp in Flathead MT late last week.

Community news: July 21st the bookmobile will be in town @ 3:30 p.m. and the fireman will meet at fire hall at 7 p.m..
The annual block party coordinated by the St. John’s/ Kongsvinger parish will be held at the Threshing bee grounds in Donnelly on July 26th. The day starts with a sb game between the fireman and the rod and gun club at 2 p.m. followed by a bean bag tournament. The David Day memorial fishing tournament will be held on July 20th on Lake Minnewaska, the headquarters is “the water’s edge” south of Starbuck and the LTD motorcycle run is today (Saturday) leaving   Appleton (Swift county fairgrounds) at 10 a.m. traveling throughout the area stopping in Morris  about 3:30 p.m. before ending in Appleton about 4:45 p.m.
Nick Bolluyt of Morris passed away on July 12 survivors include his daughter, Shirley (Darrell) Uhden of Kensington, Darrell is a former Donnelly area resident.
Maxine Golombiecki of Donnelly passed away Saturday, July 12th her funeral is July 26 at st Mary’s Chokio. 
Jen Kopel and Scott Rudnicki, La Crosse, Wis., announce their engagement.  Parents are Rob and Kathy Kopel of Donnelly, Patty Rudnicki of Fargo, N.D., and Ernest Rudnicki of Avon
Amber Recker of Morris was recently named to the Honor list at Minnesota state Mankato recently  Tyler Henrichs of Morris has been awarded a scholarship from the Fergus Area College Foundation to attend the Fergus Falls campus of Minnesota State Community and Technical College in fall 2014

Ava Lynn Evink was born on June 30 at Stevens Community Medical Center, Morris, to Brent and Angela Evink of Hancock. Grandparents are Rodney and Linda Giese of Donnelly and David and Melinda Evink of Hancock. Great grandparents are Clarence Giese of Morris and Audrey Evink of Hancock.
Henry James Volker was born on Apr. 12th to Aaron and Molly Volker of St Cloud grandparents are Kevin and Nancy Volker of the Herman/Donnelly area.
Marv Meyer fun run results: 5000 meter run; women’s 1, Makenzie Smith, 2 Savannah Aanerud, both of Donnelly, Men’s; 2 Bennett Smith, of Donnelly,
Donnelly fire dept. had a bike rodeo during the ice cream social; bike give away winners were Joe lonergan, Abbigail Athey


The threshing bee royalty were part of the prairie pioneer days parade in Morris, many of us from the Donnelly area took in some of the activities associated with it over the weekend
The Donnelly community club had a lengthy meeting on July 14th as we continue to finalize plans for the bee. The buttons are here and will be for sale in area business soon or can be purchased from a community club officer.  The posters should be ready soon; we are looking for somebody to be in charge of the bingo stand, reminder that any help before, during or after the bee is always welcome. Reminder the dates are Aug. 23rd  and 24th feature is Ford, next year it will be anything from 1965  as we celebrate our 50th. As I do every so often I stopped into visit Wally McCollar this week, he was on the phone with some of his classmates  discussing possible dates for a 60th class reunion next year and the general consensus seemed to be having it during the weekend of the Morris fair.
I .was told there was an accident in the north end of Donnelly last week that temporarily closed several blocks of the highway  no other details are available at this time.

Next edition July 12th-18th
Welcome another edition of the Donnelly news;
Weather news: lots of sunshine mild temps and some breeze made it a very pleasant weekend to be out and about, more rain this week means that crops especially the corn continue to look very good.
In St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news: There will be joint services at Kongsvinger on July 13th at and at St John ’s on July 27th at 9 am there will be coffee hour and Bible study after services at the host church unless otherwise announced.
Bp. Jon Anderson will be the guest speaker during joint services at St John’s on July 20th at 9 am, No bible study that day
The KLCW and St John’s WELCA will have a joint bible study at Kong on July 15th at 7:30 pm
The joint and individual council meetings will be held on July 16th at 7 pm at St John’s note change of date
Good Shepherd news: the July tithe will be split between reclaim resources and feed my starving children; coffee money goes to Sola publishing.
There will be no bible study on July 22nd.
 The July newsletter for both churches is now out extra copies are available in the back of all three churches.
Bethel Lutheran Morris will have VBS at their church on July 14-18th; First and Faith Lutheran churches-Morris will have VBS from July 28th August 1st at Faith
July 12th will be Pr. Martha Hanson’s last Sunday at St John’s Starbuck. She has decided that for now she will be a full –time stay at home mother. Brunch and program to follow services

Bev Nelson of New London passed away on July 5th ,her funeral is today (Saturday),in New London, she and her husband ,Rev Philip Nelson served the Morris Lutheran parish which included Kongsvinger from 1962-1967
Tiger track awards: Beth Holland most valuable sprinter, Savannah Aanerud most valuable distance, Beth and Kourtney Geise were named all-conference and Beth was a west central conference performer of the week
Tiger girls’ bb camp award winners included Becca Holland: free throw and 1 on 1
Elizabeth Holland and Rebekah Aanerud of Donnelly were both recipients of a $500 scholarship from Dacotah Bank. Both girls will be attending NDSU this fall.
The Donnelly Threshing Bee Royalty Committee is accepting nominations for our 2014 Royalty candidates. Nominations will be taken till July 15 and names can be entered in our drop boxes at these Donnelly Businesses: The Coop, Post Office and HD & Co. Questions can be directed to the Royalty Committee
The threshing bee royalty were part of the 4th of July parade in Hancock and the Heritage Days parade in Starbuck
Past week I helped with naps, attended the 4th of July celebration at Kongsvinger, and community celebrations in Hancock, Villard and Starbuck ,the open house at big stone therapies in Morris and the RTA meeting in Barrett

Next edition July 5th-11th
Welcome another edition of the Donnelly news;
Weather news: more heavy down pours last week meant more standing water in the area and the roof of St Mary’s school here in Morris collapsed causing a lot of damage in the school. In between showers farmers are busy spraying and putting up hay, so far most crops look good despite all the rain.
In St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news: there will be joint services at Kongsvinger on July 6th and 13th. There will be coffee hour and Bible study after services at the host church unless otherwise announced.

The KLCW and st John’s WELCA will have a joint bible study at Kong on July 15th at 7:30 pm

Trinity Lutheran Church- Cyrus is sponsoring a gospel message every Wed evening through Aug 27th with speakers from “Minn. Youth Alive” at the Venture Arts Center in Cyrus at 6:45 p.m.

Community news: On July 7th the red hatters will meet at the Herman bar and grill at 9 am, the bookmobile will be in town at 3:30pm, the city council and rendsville 4-h will meet at 7 pm in the fire and town hall.
July 14th the Community club will meet at the town hall and the fireman at fire hall both at 7 pm

Several employees at the West Central Research and Outreach Center in Morris have reached notable years of service: Gary Gulbrandson (30 years) and Keith Graff (25 years)

Mark Smith of Donnelly was one two employees at the West Central Research and Outreach Center, who received the Research Initiative Award in honor of their outstanding service and collaboration with University of Minnesota research projects. This award is granted by U of MN Research and Outreach Centers, with eight locations throughout the state of Minnesota.
Liz Aschman was recently installed as Chaplin of the American Legion Auxiliary
  Jerry and Joan Kopacek spent an enjoyable week at Luther Crest Bible Camp.  They also attended a concert at Mt Carmel by the touring Swedish Trio “Tio Con Brio Stockholm”.



When I got home from the funeral on Saturday I had a message from a Mr. Agoste (Donna’s Wolking’s son), stating that he and his aunt Dot were in the area, and asked me to call him back. Unfortunately by the time we connected he had left town, he said his aunt might return for St Mary’ school’s centennial celebration in Sept.  She was in the last class to graduate from there. The Wolking’s owned and operated the gas station in Donnelly where the Donnelly co-op is now
In the past week I attended the open house at Moore calves near Hancock, the Kiwanis talent contest at eastside park, the Fitzgerald auction in Morris, open house at prairie ridge medical center in Elbow Lake, Selma Bruse funeral in Herman, the ice cream social at St John’s Starbuck, the Viking land band festival in Alexandria, the new wine homecoming concert at First Lutheran Morris; visited with a friend in the Bethany home- Alexandria, Margret Kearns in Alberta, and Bill Telkamp in Morris
Most business in Donnelly will be closed on July 4th some will probably be closed on the 5th too
The Donnelly Threshing Bee Royalty Committee is accepting nominations for our 2014 Royalty candidates.
Eligibility age as of Aug 23, 2014 is as follows:
Little Miss Donnelly/Princess ages 8-10. 
Threshing Bee Queen/Princess ages 14-18.
Nominations will be taken till July 15 and names can be entered in our drop boxes at these Donnelly Businesses.  Donnelly Coop, Donnelly Post Office and HD & Co. 
Each girl nominated, will be contacted for verification.
