donnelly news

Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news this issue is dedicated to the memory of Mark’s foster dad Stan Koepke who passed away 30 years ago.
Weather news: after umpteen weeks of cold, snow and wind the sun has come out and it has actually gotten above freezing this week, meaning we can get rid of some of the snow and ice around here and be out and about some  without getting cold. Unfortunately the forecast calls for a return to the deep freeze soon.
In St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news: There will be joint services at Kongsvinger on Feb. 23rd at 11 am with the SS kids singing. Tal Arkay Frank and Nash Arkay Frank (Randy and Kelly) will also be baptized
There will be Bible studies between services at Kongsvinger on Feb.23 and Mar 2nd.

From Good Shepherd Lutheran Church: There will be weekly Bible studies on Wed a.m. @ 9a.m. though the month of Feb.; starting on Mar 4th they will be held on Tue a.m. @ 9 a.m., until after Easter. We are starting a study on the Augsburg confession. Everyone welcome
Other church news West Central homes will have their annual meeting on Mar 9th at Faith –Morris at 1:30 pm
Glacial ridge conference assembly will be held on Mar 9th at 1:30 pm at Glenwood Lutheran in Glenwood

The 2014 Runestone telephone association directories are now out extra copies can be obtained at HD & co in Donnelly
There will be an open house baby shower for the baby of Melissa and Erik Whittemore today (Saturday) from 2 to 4 p.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Chokio. They are registered at Target. Bring a book instead of a card.        Erik’s parents are Dave and Julie Whittemore of Donnelly

Walt Baker of Morris passed away on Feb 16th; survivors include his daughter Rhoda (Kenton) Lange. Kenton is a member of our threshing bee “family”
Former Donnelly area resident Jeanette Pedersen-Greiner of Morris passed away on Feb 15th. Her funeral will be held today (Saturday) at Trinity Lutheran church in Cyrus
Hadley Adle Johnson was born on Jan 27th in St Paul to Kerry and Vangie Johnson ,grandparents are Gordon and Gay Ekberg of Herman, great grandmother is former Donnelly area resident Grace Derby of Barrett
Knights of Columbus free throw contest winners include Brandon Jergenson (10 yr. olds) Jackson Loge alternative
Morris-Benson area storm hockey squirts won 1st place in the Marshall Tournament lately, Brady Loge is a member of that team, and his dad Ryan is a coach.
5th grade Tigers girls’ basketball team won three tournaments at Benson, Ortonville and in Morris; Courtney Lehman is a member of that team
Future farmers of America awards : Beth Holland; state FFA degree region 3 star in Agri business; Rebekah Aanerud ;first state equine entrepreneurship ,and ag communications; Tom Holland first ag mechanics fabrication and design placement; Region winners: (donnelly area kids on the team )horse elevation team, (2nd ),(Savannah and Rebekah Aanerud); floriculture, (2nd) (Sam Griener); ag issues  ( Rebekah Aanerud and Melanie Van Horn) ;Market plan (2nd) (Joanna Moser) ;nursery landscape ;(2nd )(Beth and Becca Holland); small animals,( 5th),Amy Disselkamp, Melanie Van Horn); Ag sales, (first), (Brady Jergenson) (4th individually); crops elevation ,(4th ),(Bryce Jergenson).  
Business Professionals of America, region 7 competition: Carly Gullickson vp;  teams winning awards (donnelly area kids who were part of the team) include: systems  administration using cisco(2nd) and small business management  (4th) ( Bo Gullickson) ;financial analysts(2nd ) (Beth Holland) economic research team( 5th )(John Hubener): video production (Sam Henrichs ) broadcast news team #1 (first )(Brady Jergenson,)   # 3 (2nd )(Riley Biesterfeld) global marketing team (first) (Carly and Bo Gullickson) presentation management( Kourtney Giese) state torch award winners were Carly Gullickson ,Beth Holland, John  and Justine Hubener, Brady Jergenson. As a member of the Hancock bpa Gabi Nienhaus was a member of the small business management team that finished 5th in the competition.
The Tiger gymnasts were honored in Litchfield as the Section 6A Academic Team Champion and State Class A runner up Academic Team Champion. Savannah Aanerud performed another stuck beam routine, receiving 10th in all-around competition.
Last week I stopped into Super Valu when the Stevens county farm bureau had an ag awareness day there, when I stopped at the table to register, Paul Stark told me I had to put in the my column that they were there, since I aim to please I am, especially after I won a Super Valu gift card from them. Thank you.
Jan 16th Mark and I attended the birthday party at the west wing Village for Marlys Alm, she is 99 years young. Many of her family were there for the event.  After the party we visited some of the residents there. During the past week I attended Bible study at Good shepherd and stopped into see Wally at McCollar Jewelry, he was telling me about how he got his start in Morris, saying his Dad gave him good advice back then. Selling three engagement rings on one day about 50 years ago was a huge morale booster for him when he was getting started.
