donnelly news

Next edition July 24th –July 30th

Weather news: The past week has been hot and dry with only a few scattered showers in the area. Crops continue to look very good, the corn is probably the tallest it has ever been at this time of the year.
STJ/KONG PARISH NEWS: there will be communion services on July 25th at 8:30 am at St J and 10:15 am at Kong. VBS kickoff will be on Aug 1st when Bethel of Herman will join the parish for joint services at St J at 10:30 am. Staff from Luther Crest will be leading the services followed by a pot luck dinner. This is a change from what was announced in the summer schedule.

Bethel of Herman will be joining the parish again this yr for VBS AUG 1-6TH AT St J conducted by staff from Luther Crest. If you have not yet registered your child (ren) for it please do so ASAP. Registration forms are available from either church office.

Staff from St Luke's in Garfield will offer Lcmc services at Solem Lutheran church of rural Keng at 8:45 am. For more info call the church office at 320-834-2285

The following events will take place today Sat

There will be an ordination service for Seyward Mattson Ask at first Lutheran in Morris beginning at 2 pm


The LTD motorcycle ride will be held beginning in Monte going through Morris (about 3 pm) and ending up in Appleton. For more info call 320-333-8615


Threshing bee buttons are now on sale at various locations in Donnelly $5 in advance $6 at the gate. Posters are also out and are being posted in the area. If you want one, stop into HD & co in Donnelly.

Addison Smith was born on June 25 at SCMC to Chris and Janelle Smith. Grandparents are Leon and Marylyn smith of Donnelly, Lenord and Darlene Hout of red lake falls, great grandparents are Veronica Smith of Morris and Elsie Kalmia of Starbuck.

Wilma L. Matejka, of Sarasota, Florida passed away on July 20th. Survivors include a sister in law Lou (Eddie) Kopel of Donnelly. Graveside services will beheld at Summit centenary in Morris on July 31st at 10:30 am followed by a lunch at the Kopel farm

Ruth (Devick) Sands of St Anthony formerly of Donnelly passed away on July 17th. Two sisters Alice Holman and Corrine Jackson are among the family members that survive her.

To: Nick and Karen Daly, who recently celebrated their Golden wedding aniv.

To: the Bank of the West elementary sb team which won the championship. Katie Geise is a member of that team and her Dad, Brain was the coach. Becca Holland was a member of the Pederson granite team that finished as runner ups

To the CAHN cadets that won the championship at the chokio tournament. Levin strand is a member of that team.

To: Ashley Dohlen on her recent graduation from Bethel u

To: Sami Searle who was selected to participate in the FFA national leadership forum in Washington dc in June

July 16th the WCROC celebrated its centennial at their annual summer field day. Several crop tours showcased crops from the past 100 yrs. There was also a display of cream separating and hogs that were fed a diet from 100 and 60 yrs ago.

In the aft Wally McCollar & I and several ’55 classmates journeyed to Donnelly stopping at school, bank and HD & co before having lunch at Sax’s café. I also spent some time with them poolside at the prairie Inn that eve. Jim and Lou Eystad and I were among the many that spent some time at Pomme De Park taking in some of the Relay for Life activities.

July 17th I traveled to Alberta for the sons of the American legion pancake feed. Later that day Herb Kloos and I were among those who took in the group workcamp picnic at Eastside Park. Later I represented my Mom and Aunt Mabel at the class of ’55’s banquet at the Prairie inn. Among the former Donnelly area residents in attendance were Eddie Speer, Wayne Sperr, JoAnn Frank Sonja Sather, Darrell Koehntop, David Aanerud, Curtis Sax, Wally McCollar, Mavis Chapman, and Maryann Manney.

The threshing Bee royalty were participants in the Benson kid’s day parade on July 17th

July 18th Jim and Lou Eystad attended the wcl worship service at the prairie inn in Morris. Afterwards they traveled to Hoffman for the Jeff Hagen benefit. Pearl A. Anderson also attended it. Joyce Steuck and I were among those who attended the farewell service, dinner and program for Rev Todd Matteson and his family at First Lutheran in Morris.

July 21st Jim and Lou Eystad and I were among those who attended the Thrivent picnic at Pomme De Park. Thanks to Lynn Shultz for providing the music.
