Weather news: according to calendar spring arrived on Fri afternoon, However winter is still hanging around we got about 3-5” of snow on sun aft and more is predicated as I am writing this.
St John’s/Kongsvinger news: There will be joint services at Kongsvinger on March 29th (Palm Sunday)at 11 am with the ss kids singing, contact the church office  for details about other holy week events .no ss on April 5th
Good shepherd news: there will be a brunch after church on Easter Sunday
Other church news: For details on Holy week services at churches in the area see the ad in this week’s paper
This and that sale at the federated church today (Sat.) starting at 9 am
The Bemidji state choir will be in concert at the assumption catholic church today (Sat) at 2 pm

Community news: the Kurt Kruize memorial scholarship fundraiser dinner will be held on April 4th at the Hancock community center from 3-7 pm free will donations
City council and rendsville 4-h will meet at city hall and St John’s on April 6th @ 7 pm
The Stevens county Republican Party executive committee will have a meeting March 30th at 6:15 pm at Legion
The Stevens county genealogical society will meet on April 2nd at 1:30 pm in room 108 of the West wind Village

Death notices: Irene Monroe of Morris passed away on March 14th survivors include her daughter Nadine (Robert) Heck who was postmistress in Donnelly for a few years.

Celebrations: buddies bar and grill won the men’s league championship in community Ed basketball, Taylor Nohl was a member of that team.
Tiger gymnastic awards: Savannah Aanerud MVP, West Central Conference –all conference; Kourtney Geise Tiger award
 Tristan Raths of Donnelly who is part of the Tiger elementary wrestling program took first place at the regions in New London on Mar 21st. He will be going to the nywa (national youth wrestling association?) state wrestling tournament in Rochester March 26th-27th.  The Tigers are taking an elementary team to the state for the first time on March 28th and 29th
Joel and Jamie Beyer of Morris, along with Tim Kampmeier of Chokio and the late Linda Kampmeier, are happy to announce the engagement of their children, Sydney Beyer and Mac             Kampmeier; her grandparents are Sid and Carol Wilcox
Carrie Roske and Kody Kramer of Morris are happy to announce their engagement. Carrie is the daughter of Russell Roske of Donnelly and John and Holly Riley of Morris. Kody is the son of Ray Kramer of Morris and Roni Kramer of Brandon. A May 30th wedding is planned. His grandmother is my former neighbor Joyce Kramer.

The class of ’55 is still looking for pictures for their reunion; classmates should be getting their invitations soon
The Donnelly co-op had their annual meeting on Mar 19th they had another good year; I will have more info about the meeting in an upcoming column. Other events I attended during the past week included the Irene Monroe visitation at the funeral home, the lions pancake breakfast at the Lee center, and the spring expo out there too, the legion fundraising breakfast in Barrett, the sing a-long at Lincoln Lutheran church rural Hoffman, the college republicans fundraiser at the pizza ranch, the Doug Ohman presentation on barns in Minnesota at the Hancock community center ,and the west wind village, on state parks at the Minnewaska home, the White Bear Lake insurance company’s annual meeting at the Minnewaska house by Glenwood and the Aaron Goll visitation at the funeral home. I also stopped to visit with some current and former Donnelly area residents at the “Villa” on Wed a.m.

The public is invited to attend an event this coming Sunday at the UMM:

Sunday, March 29, **1-4pm, in Imholte Hall (Social Science Building), Room 109, on the University of Minnesota Morris campus
Come and see about the ongoing work on the Boerner Family Cemetery project by Professor Rebecca M. Dean and her students.
Students will be talking about a number of different research projects, but three of the papers are about the Boerner Family Cemetery.
This is an opportunity to meet some of the fabulous people that have been working on the restoration efforts at the cemetery.
On Sunday most parking is free on campus.
**The cemetery presentations will be in the middle, probably from around 1:30-2:30. It's not necessary to stay for the entire event; you can come and go as you wish.

Welcome to another addition of the Donnelly news.
Weather news: well it is typical MN weather again after a fantastic weekend that saw temperatures get up 70 on Sunday they have cooled off this week and we had some light snow on Wed. What snow that is left from the winter is disappearing fast
St John’s/Kongsvinger news: the last Lenten service will be at St John’s (March 25th) with a soup supper starting at 6 p.m.
There will be joint services at Kongsvinger on March 29th (Palm Sunday)at 11 am with the ss kids singing, contact the church office  for details about other holy week events .

Other church news: Habit for humanity pork chop fundraiser March 26th starting at 4:30 pm at the old # 1 Southside free will offering

Community news: The Bookmobile will be in town on March 30th on main St.
The Donnelly fire department’s annual fish fry will be held on March 27th starting at 4:30 pm at the community hall.

Tip night at the Pizza ranch on March 23rd will be a fund raiser for the college republicans

Celebrations: none

The Donnelly community club had their annual meeting on March 12th at the hall. We had an "ok" year last year, all the officers were re-elected. Thanks to everyone who helped prepare and serve the delicious meal. A reminder that we are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Donnelly threshing bee on August 29th and 30th ,featuring everything made in 1965, and IH tractors and machinery. The first meeting of the year will be on April 13th.
After attending the open house at “Wells Park” at the west wind village on Sat., I had an opportunity to visit with Mary Dripps for a while. Other events I attended during the past week include open houses at Pederson’s agri -serv and Larson’s farm supply in Herman, the pork producers’ supper in Morris, and the birthday dinner at Kongsvinger
The class of ’55 is still looking for an Iwatka and pictures for their reunion, the invitations are going out via UPS.

donnelly news

Next edition Mar 14th-20th
Welcome to another addition of the Donnelly news.
Weather news when I wrote my column last week we were digging out from a blizzard that dumped 6” of snow on us and a -20 overnight temp. This week temps have been in the 40’s and 50’s and a lot of the snow has melted.  Well I guess that is Minn. weather for you.
St John’s/Kongsvinger news: Lenten services will again alternate between Kongsvinger (March 18th) and St John’s (March 25th) with a soup supper starting at 6 p.m.
There will be a potluck birthday dinner at Kongsvinger on March 15 following services about noon.
The St. John's WELCA will have their annual St. Pats day party on March 17th at 2:15 pm at the west wind Village
Other church news: West central Christian homes, Inc. annual meeting will be held on March 15, at 1:30 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Morris, MN
Men of life at Hosanna worship center today (Sat.) 8-10:30 a.m.
There will be a St Pat’s dinner at Assumption -Morris on Mar 15th starting at 11 a.m.
Community news: The Donnelly co-op annual meeting will be held on Mar 19th at the town hall beginning with a noon meal.

Death notices: Brayden Darrel Bouressa of Alexandria passed away on Mar 7th survivors include his parents Kayla Lorraine Perrier and Brett Allen Bouressa. Grandma, Kimberly Bouressa, Grandpa Bill Bouressa, he was preceded in death by his great grandfather Dennis Bouressa
Doris Zimmerman of Chokio passed away on Mar 8th survivors include her granddaughter Melissa (Erik) Whittemore of Donnelly and their family

Celebrations: 4-h regional project bowl  Jr. white team 1st place team members included Kamren Sperr and Justus Moser ,his dad Jon Moser was the coach ;sr. white team 2nd place Jonna Moser was a member of that team Lee Johnston was the coach
Past week anniversary party for Mecklenburg’s and birthday party for Dick Cady then visited at Verle and Della Dunn in their house, and fundraising breakfast at Good shepherd. Mark and I visited Lou Eystad in the hospital on Tuesday, she is now home.
I have been informed that the invitation letters for the class of ’55 reunion have started going out via ups this week.
For those of you that have not heard our former pastor at St. John’s /Kongsvinger; Pr Luther and Sarah Johnson and family recently accepted a call to a church in Ottumwa IA

Next edition Mar 7th-13th
Welcome to another addition of the Donnelly news. This issue is dedicated to the memory of my Mom who passed away on Mar 14th 2004
Weather news well I guess March has come in like a lion with blizzard like conditions for part of the day on Tue along with about 6” of snow requiring the snow removal equipment to be put back into use again. Also some very cold weather with it thankfully things are supposed to warm up some soon.
St John’s/Kongsvinger news: Lenten services will again alternate between St John’s (March 11th) and Kongsvinger (March 18th) with a soup supper starting at 6 p.m.
There will be a potluck birthday dinner at Kong on March 15 following services about noon.
The st John’s WELCA will have their annual St. Pats day party on March 17th at 2:15 pm at the west wing Village
Good shepherd news: there will be breakfast following the March 8th services to raise funds for parking lot improvements.

Community news: Today (Sat) there will be a 25th wedding anniversary celebration for Loren and Kaylene (Kleinhans) Mecklenburg at First Baptist Church Morris from 9 am-noon, and there will be an open house 80th birthday party for Richard Cady from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Donnelly Hall.  If you can’t make it, wish him a Happy Birthday when you see him as I did when I saw him into a local restaurant on Sun.
New horizons Ag services (elevator) will have their annual meeting on Mar 9th at the Bigwood event center, in Fergus Falls, beginning with a noon meal.

Township annual meetings will be held on Mar 10th at various locations, most townships will have their annual meeting at 4 p.m. followed by voting from 5-8 p.m. Contact your town clerk or the st co auditor treasures office for specific meeting places and times.

Death notice: former Donnelly area resident Millie (Stambaugh) Jarski of St Louis Park passed away on Feb 20th.

Celebrations: Cambrie Diane Fehr was born on February 19th, to Mitch and Abbie Fehr of Morris.   Grandparents are Gary and Sandy Fehr, Vance and Kim Gullickson and Mark and Mick Ekren all of Morris. Great grandmother is Ardis Gullickson
Hadley Jo Ehli was born on February 17th,   to JoDee and Matthew Ehli of Donnelly.  . Grandparents are John and JoAnn Klosowski of Cokato, and Terry and Stacy Ehli from Wheaton. Great-grandparents are William and Betty Clark of Amery, Wis. and Audrey Slapnicher of Wheaton.
The Tiger 6th grade girls’ basketball team took first place in the Benson tournament recently Courtney Lehman is a member of that team
 4-h share the fun: Savannah Aanerud won the award for best actress
In addition to Mecklenburg’s other current or former Donnelly area couples that have or will celebrate significant anniversaries recently are Mark and Karen Janaowscky (35yr) 3/22 ,Steve and Jeanne Halbe (30yrs), 3/30 Robert and Dorothy Eissle (20yr,), 3/18 Vance and Kim Gullickson (20yr) 3/11 Ray and Laura Theilke (20 yrs.) 3/18
I need to clarify something from earlier columns.  There is NO all school reunion this year for either the Morris or Donnelly schools, but there will be a 60th class reunion for the MHS class of ’55, Aug 26th-28th.
