donnelly news

Next edition Mar 6th–Mar 12th

Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news.
The last week has been a bit of relief from winter with fairly mild temps and some melting going on. Mar has come in like a lamb hopefully it does not go out like a lion.
STJ/KONG PARISH NEWS: Parish Bible study on Psalms 23 continues on Thursday’s at St J (10 am) and will be repeated at Kong at 7 PM
Parish Lenten services “The Sign of Jonah” with supper at 5:30 p.m. and services at 6:45 p. m. will continue through Easter. Supper and Services will alternate ea week between Kong (Mar 10th) and St J (Mar 17th). Copies of the schedule are posted on the doors of both churches.
WCAWA will meet today (Sat) at the E-Free church in Hancock beginning with coffee fellowship at 9:30 am, meeting at 10 am. For more info call 795-2477
West Central Christian Homes will have it annual meeting on Mar 7th at Faith Lutheran church in Morris at 1 pm
The St Co DFL county convention will be held today (Sat) at 9 am at the legion in Morris.
Township annual meetings and elections will be held on Mar 12th in the area. Donnelly twp will meet at fire hall in Donnelly; Pepperton at the community hall in Alberta; most other townships in the area will meet in their town halls. Most annual meetings are at 4 pm with elections from 5-8 pm. Contact your county auditor for specific meeting times and places in your area.

Anna Anderson of Barrett formerly of Donnelly passed away on Feb 21st. Her funeral was held on Feb 26th in Barrett.
Bob Frank of Starbuck formerly of Donnelly passed away on Feb 25th his funeral was held on Mar 2nd at Fron. A sister Dorothy (Sam) Jordheim, sister in law Shirley Frank of Donnelly and their families are among his survivors. His family ran the Gambles store in Donnelly for many years. He was a good friend and I will miss him. I traveled to Starbuck on Mar 1st for his visitation. Afterwards I stopped at the Minnewaka home for a quick visit of some of the residents.

Wednesday, March 10: Multicultural Students in Morris, Part I. Students from China attending UMM will share their experiences and perceptions of UMM, Morris, and the U.S., and talk about their homeland. Part II, consisting of UMM students from various other countries, is scheduled for October. Morris Public Library Community Room, 1:00 p.m. Sponsored by Learning Unlimited.
Congratulations to Kody Armstrong (Jason and Niki) for being named to the honor roll at WCAHS and also to Samantha Larson to the honor roll at H-NHS
Congratulations to Paige Strand who earned her blue jacket from the H-N FFA recently. She and Landon Strand have also won several ribbons lately as members of the speech team in meets at Hancock and Wheaton.
Congratulations to Brandi Speer who has been named vice president of the Agribusiness/Agronomy Club at Southwest Minnesota State University.
Congratulations to Jake Long who recently qualified for a return trip to the state wrestling tournament this week by winning his class at the section wrestling tournament.
Congratulations to the MA-CA boys BB team that won the WCC south conf championship. Tyler Rouske is a member of that team.
The St Co Gen Soc & the Donnelly Community Club were among the many Stevens County non-profits at the expo at the armory in Morris on Feb 25th. Jim and Lou Eystad were among a goodly crowd that attended it. Clarice Dieter won the door prize from the gen soc.
Steve Fults and I along with many others attended the Donnelly co-op mtg. at the Donnelly Hall on Feb 26th.Thanks to the St J WELCA for preparing and serving the wonderful dinner. Later it was off to Morris where many attended the visitation for David Haynes at the funeral home.
Feb 27th Jim and Lou Eystad and I were among the family and friends who attended the funeral for David Haynes at Kong. We were also attended the Glacial Ridge conference convention at Our Saviors in Chokio on the 28th.
About 30 people attended the annual meeting of the Donnelly Community club Inc on Mar 1st at Sax’s café. We had a very successful bee last yr; plans are under way for this year’s bee on Aug 28 and 29th. We will be featuring the Allis Chalmers line of machinery and tractors this year. If you were unable to attend the meeting you can still join the club by mailing your dues to the don community Club. We are also always looking for ideas and/or suggestions for the bee and/or other events. The monthly meetings are on the 2nd Mon. of ea month (excluding winter months) at 7 pm at the hall. Thanks to the crew at Sax’s café for preparing and serving the delicious meal.
