Kloos, Lee R. "Dick" Age 82, of Hopkins, died Aug 2. Retired Minnegasco employee and U.S. Marine from 1951-1953. Survived by wife of 58 years, Gerry; children Julie (Matt) Thompson, Lee, Trudy, Mary (Ron) Gould, Tom (Mary), Bob (Giovanna), Kathy (Brian) Miller, Joe and Chuck (Jennie); grandchildren, Bud, Abby, Carrie, Molly, Erin, Bridget, Will and Daniel. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to N. C. Little Hospice. Private interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Karen Long supplied me with the following info about her uncle Vern Anderson. He was born in Seattle Wash the son of Vedar and Olive (Holt) Anderson. Olive was born on a farm site just east of where Charles and Karen Long now live (11458 200th ave. Herman) Vern and his wife Thelma visited this location in the 8o’s and made several trips to MN through the years. Opal and Ervin Harstad and family also traveled to Northern Idaho every summer for many yrs. visiting opal’s family there. Karen says it is very beautiful country there. Vern was an avid gardener. When they came to MN he enjoyed visits with Chester and Edna Olson Paul and Laverne Kopitzhe, Willie Martian and others but esp. his aunt Marie Krogan. He served his country in the army. He worked as a millwright or a mechanic most of his life. He is survived by his wife of 65 years two sons Frank and George and their spouses 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew Eddie Harstad. A memorial service was held on July 16th with burial at evergreen cemetery Priest River Id.

Sioux Falls - Dolores A. Jackson, loving mother and grandmother, was born July 17, 1942 to Henry and Amelia Holdgrafer. She was raised on a farm near Donnelly, Minnesota and attended Morris High School. She graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Physical Therapy. She dedicated the past 40 years to helping families and children in her profession. Dolores was married to Jerry Jackson in 1964 and moved to Brainerd, Minnesota. While there, she worked at the hospital and started her family. They moved to Sioux Falls in 1971 and raised their five children. Dolores worked as a Physical Therapist for the past 40 years, with the last 22 years in the Sioux Falls School District in the Birth to Three Program. She was an active member of Christ the King Catholic Parish for the past 38 years. Dolores dedicated her life to helping others. Her greatest joys were working with children in her profession and spending time with her grandchildren. She took the time to embrace each child's uniqueness and special qualities. She will be remembered for her work with others and for always placing others needs before her own. She may be best described as sincere, genuine, and gracious. She will be greatly missed by those left to cherish her memory. Blessed to have shared her life are her children, Ann (Randy) Cowan, Mary Jackson, Jeff (Shawn) Jackson, John (Karla) Jackson, all of Sioux Falls, and Tom (Christy) Jackson of Midland, MI; her eight grandchildren, Andrew, Joshua, Davis, Miles, Addy, August, Joseph, Kaylee; and two brothers, Ron (Joyce) Holdgrafer of Schaumburg, IL and Gary (Mary) Holdgrafer of Edmonton, AB.

Lloyd Gust Stier, age 65, of Donnelly, died Wednesday, February 23, 2011, at the Minneapolis VA Hospital of congestive heart failure after battling heart disease since 1988.
Lloyd was born on September 15, 1945, to Clifford and Anna (Vleiger) Stier. Lloyd attended country school and then graduated from Morris High School in 1963.
Lloyd joined the US Air Force in 1965 receiving his basic training in Biloxi, MS and then was stationed at Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo, Texas working in security. While there, he met his true love, Glenda Stier at a traffic light and vowed to his friend that night that he would “marry that woman and they would have beautiful children together.” They were married on December 21, 1965.
Lloyd served in Seoul, Korea for 13 months during the Vietnam War and was sent to several different countries to perform his duties. After his overseas tour and receiving a Certificate as a Sharp Shooter, he was honorably released from active duty. He was very proud to serve his country and continued to serve through a number of veterans organization memberships.
Lloyd worked in many different jobs in Texas and Minnesota from positions in the gas industry to working for the Department of Transportation, but his career was in meat cutting. He received his Certificate of Completion of Apprenticeship in 1975 as a Journeyman Meat Cutter and bought the Barrett Locker Plant where he and his wife worked as a team. When his health wouldn’t allow him to work in his chosen field, he sold the locker and eventually had to stop working all together due to injuries he received in the service.
Lloyd enjoyed country music, camping, loved Johnny Cash, always had something to “putter” on in his garage, mentored neighborhood boys on how to fix on a car, wrote poetry and took pride in the title of “Super Dad.” He often would play cards with his friends and relatives, enjoying the conversations and adding his own humorous twist to stories whenever he got the chance.
He is survived by his wife, Glenda Stier, daughters Roberta (Robbie) and Shelly Stier, one grandson, Kevin Lloyd Stier, one Brother, Robert (wife Charlotte) Stier, two sister-in-law, Grace Stier and Barb Stier Aal, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Anna (Vlieger) Stier, brothers Russ and Dean Stier; sister, Betty Stier; nephew Brad Stier and niece Susan (Stier) Radil.

Funeral services for LuVern F. Wilts of Herman, MN will be held Saturday, February 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church in Herman. Reverend Jennifer Rose will be officiating. Visitation will be held Friday from 5 to 7 PM at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Herman and for one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Herman.
LuVern Fredrick Wilts, son of Earl and Alma (Brunkow) Wilts, was born March 22, 1924 in Eldorado Township in Stevens County, Minnesota. He was baptized at the United Methodist Church and confirmed at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Herman. LuVern attended Country School District #61 in Eldorado Township. During and following his schooling he worked on the farm with his parents. On September 21, 1949, he was united in marriage to Mildred Christenson. The couple made their home in Eldorado Township, where LuVern farmed with his brother and brother-in-law. In 1972, LuVern and his sons formed Triple D Farms. In 1983, LuVern and Mildred moved to Herman and LuVern continued to help his sons out whenever he could.
LuVern was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Herman, where he served on the church council. He served for 13 years on the Herman-Norcross School Board and served on the Eldorado Township Board for several years. He enjoyed farming, fishing, wood-working and camping at Ten-Mile Lake Resort. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
LuVern died on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, Minnesota, having lived to reach the age of 86 years.
He is survived by his wife: Mildred Wilts of Herman; five children: Dennis (Marcy) Wilts of Herman, Annegine (Larry) Vipond of Herman, Duane (Carol) Wilts of Chokio, Sharlene (Dale) Schmidt of Fergus Falls and Douglas (Ellen) Wilts of Herman; son-in-law: Jon Roehl of Fergus Falls; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one sister: Shirley (George) Libbon of Chokio; two sisters-in-law: Beverly Wilts of Chokio and Bernice Christenson of Hector, MN one brother-in-law: George Gow of Benson, AZ and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter: Corrine Roehl; one grandson: Bruce Wilts; his parents and two brothers: Winfred and Marvin Wilts.
Pallbearers for the service are LuVern’s grandsons: Bryan Wilts, Todd Vipond, Eric Vipond, Jason Roehl and Darin Roehl. Honorary pallbearers are LuVern’s granddaughters: Jennifer Joecks, Stephanie Richman, Kristen Gronwold, Amber Tabbert, Kaley Wilts, Roseanna Wilts, Angela Tharaldson, Karma Schmidt, Jessica Schmidt, Carrie Wilts and Kellie Wilts. Lloyd Volker, 92, Barrett, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011, at Johnson’s Adult Care Home, rural Barrett. Funeral services for Lloyd Volker will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 14, 2011, at Peace Lutheran Church, Barrett, with the Rev. Matthew Rose officiating. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery, Herman. Visitation is Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the Erickson-Smith Funeral Home in Hoffman and resumes one hour before the service at the church.
Lloyd Fredrick Volker was born on May 27, 1918, in Delaware Township, Grant County, Minnesota, the son of William and Zena (DeVries) Volker.
After his schooling, Lloyd worked for Ralph Sheets and various farmers milking cows. On March 27, 1941, at the age of 23, Lloyd enlisted in the United States Army, trained at Fort Meade, South Dakota, and was assigned to A Troop 4th Calvary with horses. The name of dad’s horse was, “Minnesota.” Later on when the horses were replaced, they let them loose and they ran free. The outfit then became C Troop Mechanized. After his training, he left from New York on a ship called “Highland Chief” en route to England. This ship was a meat hauler, and the soldiers hung their hammocks from meat hangers. The trip took 21 days and there wasn’t much to do except ‘hang on’. Sometimes their dinner plates would slide away from them. Lloyd was stationed in England four to five months, maybe longer. His duties while there were to drive an armored car, and his rankings ranged from Private, Private First Class, and when discharged he held the rank of Sergeant.
While serving overseas, Lloyd was stationed in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He received various medals: European, African, Middle Eastern Theatre Service, American Defense Service, and the Bronze Star. Lloyd left Europe in October 1945, departing from France or Belgium. It took him a week to return to New York from where he rode a train to Fort McCoy, Wisconsin, and was discharged from the military on October 31, 1945.
After military life, Lloyd attended Herman Agriculture School for Veterans. The Veterans were paid a certain amount of money for attending school one to two days a week for a six month period of time. He also worked for Jordahl Billboard Company with Ray Fabian putting up billboard signs and with Clarence Andrews and Everett Weiseman doing jobs such as painting and carpentry. Now we understand why he was so handy around the house and farm, always being able to ‘fix’ anything.
On Dec. 17, 1946, he was united in marriage to Nancy (Ritzschke) Volker, and together they raised nine children.
Lloyd and Nancy farmed east of Herman on the Jordahl farm from 1950-1966. In 1966, Lloyd purchased his own 160-acre farm and rented additional land. He “sold the cows” in 1974 and retired from farming in 1977. Lloyd still owns his farm today. In October 1985, Lloyd and Nancy retired and moved to Barrett Lake, where Lloyd resided until Dec. 27, when he went to live at the Johnson’s Adult Care Home. Nancy passed away on Oct. 18, 1992.
Lloyd is survived by his son Glenn Heins and wife Dolly of Nampa, Idaho, son Wally Heins and wife Dot of Goodview, Va., son Mike and wife Gretchen of Woodbridge, Va., son Terry and wife Maureen of Barrett, son Jeff and wife Brenda of Morris, son Bill and wife Darlene of Herman, daughter Pat and husband Eddie Dummer of Alexandria, daughter Brenda and husband Tim Itzen of Clewiston, Fla., and son Kevin and wife Nancy of Herman; 26 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; brother Bernard (Lenora) Volker, sisters-in-law Sylvia Volker and Ardith Ritzschke, all of Herman, and brother-in-law Hans Allen of Barrett; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy, brothers Ervin and Willard Volker, sisters Betty Allen and Sophia Berger (husband Paul Berger), his parents William and Zena Volker, grandsons Freddy Heins, Brian Heins, and infant baby Heins, and great-granddaughter Nora Jane Volker.

Funeral services for Gladys Amborn of Morris will be held Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Morris. Rev. Dell Sanderson will be officiating. Visitation will be held Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service 7:30 at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Summit Cemetery in Morris.
Gladys Marion Anderson, daughter of Carl and Elsie (Banister) Anderson, was born Aug. 4, 1922 in Framnas Township in Stevens County. Gladys was baptized on Dec. 2, 1922 in Morris and later confirmed into the Lutheran Faith. She grew up in the Alberta area and began her schooling at District #24 Country School. She continued her education at Alberta High School, graduating in 1942. On Sept. 29, 1943, she was united in marriage to Harry Walter Amborn at Peace Lutheran Church in Morris. Following their marriage, the couple purchased a farm near Donnelly, where they farmed and raised their children. Upon their retirement, they moved into Morris. Harry died on March 31, 2002 and Gladys has continued to live in Morris since that time.
Gladys was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Morris. She enjoyed sewing, baking, tatting and embroidery. She especially enjoyed the time she spent with her grandchildren.
Gladys died on Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, having lived to reach the age of 88 years.
She is survived by seven daughters: Sandy (Fred) Kranitz of Dayton; Donna (Ricky) Madsen of Cape Coral, Fla.; Vicki (Bruce) Strandmark of Byron, Ga.; Kathy Mohr of Morris; Deanna (Jerry) Pekar of Brainerd; JoAnne (Jim) Hauglund of Donnelly and Tammy Ehrp (Jerry Thorstad) of Morris; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband: Harry; two children: Sharon Amborn and Lester Amborn; one granddaughter: Mackenzie Hauglund; son-in-law: Darell Mohr and siblings: Ethel Doll, Irene Jones, Rose Anderson, Harlie Anderson and Glenn Anderson.
Pallbearers for the service are: Fred Kranitz, Ricky Madsen, Bruce Strandmark, Jerry Pekar, Jim Hauglund and Jerry Thorstad. Gladys Marion Anderson, daughter of Carl and Elsie (Banister) Anderson, was born Aug. 4, 1922 in Framnas Township in Stevens County. Gladys was baptized on Dec. 2, 1922 in Morris and later confirmed into the Lutheran Faith. She grew up in the Alberta area and began her schooling at District #24 Country School. She continued her education at Alberta High School, graduating in 1942. On Sept. 29, 1943, she was united in marriage to Harry Walter Amborn at Peace Lutheran Church in Morris. Following their marriage, the couple purchased a farm near Donnelly, where they farmed and raised their children. Upon their retirement, they moved into Morris. Harry died on March 31, 2002 and Gladys has continued to live in Morris since that time.
Gladys was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Morris. She enjoyed sewing, baking, tatting and embroidery. She especially enjoyed the time she spent with her grandchildren.
Gladys died on Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, having lived to reach the age of 88 years.
She is survived by seven daughters: Sandy (Fred) Kranitz of Dayton; Donna (Ricky) Madsen of Cape Coral, Fla.; Vicki (Bruce) Strandmark of Byron, Ga.; Kathy Mohr of Morris; Deanna (Jerry) Pekar of Brainerd; JoAnne (Jim) Hauglund of Donnelly and Tammy Ehrp (Jerry Thorstad) of Morris; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband: Harry; two children: Sharon Amborn and Lester Amborn; one granddaughter: Mackenzie Hauglund; son-in-law: Darell Mohr and siblings: Ethel Doll, Irene Jones, Rose Anderson, Harlie Anderson and Glenn Anderson.
Pallbearers for the service are: Fred Kranitz, Ricky Madsen, Bruce Strandmark, Jerry Pekar, Jim Hauglund and Jerry Thorstad.
