Weather news: sunny warm weather and some welcome rain showers have been “just what the dr. ordered” for area farmers in the last week as they have been busy getting fields worked up and crops planted
In St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news: The summer worship schedule with weekly joint services at 9 a.m. alternating between the churches continues with services at Kongsvinger on June 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd. See the May newsletter for the complete schedule     
Bible study resumes after services on June 1st at the host church 
Community news: The next community mentoring program is June 12th at 7 p.m. at the Morris area elementary cafeteria.

Dorothy Zimmerman of Graceville passed away May 21st survivors include her brother Don (Barb Alm) Riley of Chokio
Ron Hagen of Granada Hills Calif. passed away recently his funeral is June 8th in Calif.  Survivors include his father Marlyn Hagen of Calif. and an uncle Verle (Della) Dunn of Donnelly and his family

Among the Tiger trap shooters that qualified for the 2014 championship in Alexandria are Brittany Cardwell, Lindsay Flogstad, Kourtney Giese, and Sam Heinrichs,
Beth Holland, Kortney Giese ,Rebekah and Savannah Aanerud are members of the Tigers girls track team that finished 5th in section 5A true team meet in early May and tied for first in the sub section team meet held at UMM last week. They all finished in the top ten in both meets either individually or a member of a relay team. Beth, Rebecca, and Savannah advanced to the section meet.  The boys placed 6th at the true team and won the subsection meet. Dalton Lupke is a member of that team
The Donnelly ladies were well represented in the Memorial Day services. At the Armory Liz Aschman presented flowers to the Gold Star Families. Jeanne Ennen and Pat [Mark] Smith carried the VFW AUX Flag and Banner, Jerry and Joan Kopacek marched with smaller flags in the possession to Summit cemetery and Joan participated in the cemetery program. John Kopacek was Staging Officer for the ladies and he also assisted with cemetery program preparations
Past week Jim and Lou Eystad attended the graduation open house for Katlin
 Vogel, visited her aunt Marlys alm at the West wing village and we attended the 75th birthday party for Chuck Spohr at the Morris senior center. Over the weekend Mark was able to see his old farmstead and the Herman school two places he had not seen in over 30 years. I attended the open house for Beth Holland at the old # 1 Southside, and the funeral for Eileen Jessnes in Wendell, my mom stayed with the Jessnes family when she taught at a school out in Swan Lake Township.

Corrections: Corrections: Rev A.J. Kluver and I traveled to Perham on May 10th and Wally McCollar received a 20 gallon from the bloodmobile

Weather news: for the first time this spring we have had multiple days of sunny warm weather. Personally I still have not seen much in the way of fieldwork yet or even a lot of evidence of it, saw a lot of untouched fields in my trip to and from Donnelly on Tue.

In St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news: The summer worship schedule with weekly joint services at 9 a.m. alternating between the churches  starts on May 25th at St. John’s and continues at Kongsvinger on June 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd  See the May newsletter for the complete schedule.     
Bible study resumes after services on June 1st at the host church  
        
There will be a spring cleanup at Kongsvinger on May 28th at 9 a.m.

Good Shepherd news. There will be a 75th birthday party for Chuck Spohr (Pr. Mike’s father in law) on May 25th from 2:30-5 p.m. at the Morris senior center. No gifts please.
Other church news: There will be a community vacation bible school on June 23-26th co- sponsored by Good Shepherd and Zion-Morris at Zion with staff from Lutheran Island bible camp –Henning leading the activities. Everyone is welcome 
Fund raising is under way for the “feed my starving children” packing event which will return to Morris again this year in August. Contact the Morris e Free church for more info.

Community news: The next community mentoring program is June 12th at 7 p.m. at the Morris area elementary cafeteria.

Brittany Cardwell was one of two tiger trap shooters on the Top 25 Female Members list in the Class AAAA-Conference 3 at the end of week three with a 23
The Tiger softball team won the west central north championship, Becca Holland is a member of that team.

Former Donnelly area resident, Alice (Devick) Hallman of Morris passed away on May 18th. Several of us from the Donnelly area were among those who attended her funeral at the Pedersen funeral home on May 22nd.
Ag country scholarship winner is Rebekah Aanerud; Carly Gullickson was named a recipient of a 2014 Road to Success Scholarship from Bremer Insurance of Morris and Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company of Grinnell, Iowa.
The Morris –Benson area storm squirts hockey team won first place at the MN. Hockey showcase held recently, Brady Loge was a member of that team, his dad Ryan was a coach.
Business professionals of America ambassador torch bearers were Dalton Lupke and Carly Gullickson

Isabelle Eve Marlow was born on May 5, at Stevens Community Medical Center, Morris, to Matt Marlow and Tracy Hagen of Chokio. Grandparents are Bud and Carol Marlow of Chokio, Janet Hagen and former Donnelly area resident Gary Ritzschke of Kensington
Tiger track at the west central conference meet the girls placed second, the boys third; Rebecca and Savanah Aanerud, Kortney Geise and Beth Holland are members of that team who finished in the top ten individually and/or as members of relay teams, in the   boys Dalton Lupke was a member of 4x800 that finished ninth.
May 22nd I was one of the guests of Wally McCollar at Buddies Bar and Grill in Hancock for a surprise 87th birthday party for Helen Peterson of Hancock.
I plan to recognize Donnelly area graduates in a future column if you have one you please let me know especially if it a post -h.s graduate. Also let me know about any upcoming open houses.



Every so often I stop into McCollar Jewelry to visit with Wally for a while one of the things he tells me is that he is planning on putting together a 60th class reunion for the MHS class of ’55 next year so if you are a member of the class or know somebody from there be sure to keep that in mind.



Some of the events I attended in the past week in the area include open houses at Valu Ford, SCMC, Amundon Peterson, the “buck of cancer” horse show at fairgrounds; Logan benefit, GSLC SS picnic, visitation and funeral for Vern Krupke, EMT open house at the ambulance garage, and the Kummrow benefit.

donnelly news

Next edition: May 17th-23rd
Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news;
Weather news: cool and wet are the operative words for the weather for the past few week as we have had rain off and on for much of it and temps are still on the cool side. Some farmers have gotten some fields planted, I see the wheat is up on the field by the threshing bee grounds but not much has been done this week. At least we did not get the foot of snow that a former Donnelly area resident in WY reported they got out there.
In St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news:  our graduates will be recognized during joint services on May 18th, at 9 a.m., at Kongsvinger and at a   brunch afterwards in the parish hall. There will be Joint services at St. John’s on May 25th at 9 a.m.
Details on the summer schedule will be announced later.
Good Shepherd news. May18th is the last day of Sunday school; to celebrate, there will be a potluck dinner at Green River Park at noon with games and other events to follow. We will also be recognizing our graduate(s) during services.

Nichole Logan benefit today (Saturday) at Old No. 1 Southside-Morris, she is the great granddaughter of the late Sam Logan of Donnelly and has cancer. Free will donation and silent auction
Picnic supper Benefit for Gene Kummrow May 21st starting at 4:30 p.m. at Zion -Morris he has cancer. Gene is a member of our threshing bee family he and his wife (Carol) are chairmen of the flea market committee. Free will donations

Graveside services for Cathy Elgin will be held at 11 a.m. today (Saturday) at Calvary cemetery in Morris, she passed away on Jan. 17th.

James Ruplinger, of Alex passed away on May 10th survivors include his daughter Amy (brad) Searle of Morris and their family
Laurie Ellen Kaehler passed away at home in Petaluma, California on May 7th; survivors include her brother in law Milford (Janice) Kaehler and his family.

Other celebrations: the Morris FFA chapter placed first in the ag literacy challenge and received the ninth overall chapter award program at the MN state FFA convention Rebekah Aanerud received 3rd place in ag communications; Beth Holland received a state FFA degree and was named region 3 star in agri business; and Savannah Aanerud won 1st place in creed and will advance to the nationals.  Many other Donnelly area kids were among the members of the chapter that brought home a “boatload” of awards from the convention either individually and/or as members of teams in career development. There are too many to list here.
The tiger girls and boys track teams took first in Ortonville; Kourtney Geise ; Beth Holland; Savannah and Rebecca Aanerud are members of the team that placed in the top 6 in their events either individually and/or as a member of relay teams.
The Donnelly community club had their monthly meeting on May 12th.  As we talked about plans for next year the general consensus was that we would feature everything made in 1965(cars, trucks, tractors, machinery etc.) the next meeting is June 9th at the community hall. This year’s bee is Aug. 23rd & 24th, and we will be featuring Ford.
About two dozen of us attended the community mentoring meeting in Morris on May 8th. The next one is June 12th same place and time
May 10th I met Pr. AJ  Kluver of Living word Lutheran church-Alex in Evansville from there we traveled to New Creations Lutheran church in Perham for a presentation by DR. Steve Paulson of Luther seminary

Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news; Mark and I want to wish our mom’s a happy mother day in heaven
Weather news: we had a really nice day on Monday otherwise it is has been cool. I understand some farmers have been out doing some planting but I have not personally seen anybody actually in the field.
In St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news:  Baccalaureate Sunday on May 18th, at 9 a.m., at Kongsvinger followed by a recognize Bruch. If you have a graduate this year please let the parish office know ASAP
There will be joint services all summer at 9 a.m., alternating between St. John’s and Kongsvinger. The complete schedule is included in the May newsletter.
Good Shepherd news. The youth will be serving breakfast and have a bake sale on May 11th to raise money for their trip to Montana this summer. The May coffee money will also go to help defray their expenses.
The May newsletter is now out; extra copies are available in the back of the church.
Other church news: may 10th 11th, 14th, 17th are the dates for the new wine dessert theater at first Lutheran. Dessert at 6 p.m. shows at 7 p.m. tickets available at either first or faith Lutheran churches.
Community news: There will be an open house bridal shower in honor of Chelsea Ringler today (Saturday) May 10th, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Morris Senior Citizen Center.

On May 12th bookmobile is in town at 3:30 p.m. the firemen and the Community club meet at 7 p.m., at the fire and community halls, in Donnelly
Beatrice J. Hansen of Barrett passed away on April 30th a niece former Donnelly resident Sheila Shultz is among the local survivors.  Irene Strand was among those who attended her funeral at Peace Lutheran in Barrett on May 5th.
Graveside services for Cathy Elgin will be held at 11 a.m. on May 17th at Calvary cemetery in Morris, she passed away on Jan. 17th.
David Guse, son of Jim and Colleen Neal of Alberta formerly of
Donnelly and Allan and Kathy Guse of Ortonville, is to marry Nicole Pederson, daughter of Diane Pederson of Chokio. A celebration will take place on June 21, 2014 in Alberta. David and Nicole reside in Elbow Lake with their three children.
Other celebrations: Wally McCollar recently received his 10 gallon pin from the American Red Cross for his blood donations over the years. 

FFA officers for 2014-2015 include Jonna Moser secretary and Becca Holland sentential; award winners at their annual banquet include Beth and Tom Holland, Rebekah Aanerud, and Jonna Moser
Donnelly area kids on 4-h project bowl teams at the state were: Jr. 2 (Justen Moser) (8th); sr. (Jonna Moser) (8th); sr. horse (Rebekah and Savannah Aanerud) (8th)   and Jr. 1 coached by Jon Moser (7th)
Tiger girls track team 1st at Sisseton, 5th in true team at Morris; Kourtney Geise, Beth Holland, Rebekah and Savannah Aanerud are members of that team and finished in the top ten in individual events and/or members of the relay team at both events with several achieving personal bests The boys finished 2nd in Sisseton and 6th at true team, Levin strand is a member of the 4x100 relay team that finished 5th (s) and 6th (M)
April 30th Lois Johnson, Joan and Jerry Kopacek were among the guests who dined with Ken Cline at the Fergus Falls VA Home. Later they assisted with the Bingo game sponsored by VFW Aux# 5039.
April 25th I visited my aunt Pearl in her apt. to express my sympathy at the death of her daughter Nancy. Mark visited her on April 29th later he, Pearl and Peggy Wishnack attended services there with Rev Miller as preacher.

 Past week the Stevens county genealogical society had a meeting at West wind village, many  of us from the area attended the stahn sale by Donnelly, and the Volker visitation at Pedersen funeral home, I attended the life song concert at the Elementary school concert hall; the “witness” worship drama at Living word Lutheran church –Alexandria ,visited a friend at the Bethany home in Alexandria, attended the visitation and funeral for Laura Carrington  visited friends at heritage apartments in Morris, and Mark and I helped out with NAPS. At the Volker visitation I had an opportunity to see two former Donnelly area residents I had not seen for a while Elroy Frank and Alan Werk
Dorothy Hilla called me to tell me she is having a moving sale staring on May 8th  at 1 p.m. continuing on May 9th, and 10th at 9 a.m. 306 e 6th St. Donnelly 246-3339

Weather news: it has been cold, rainy, and windy most of the week.
In St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news:  there will be joint worship services at St John’s at 11 a.m. on May 5th with the Sunday school kids singing. This will be the last day of Sunday school
Baccalaureate Sunday on May 18th, if you have a graduate this year please let the parish office know ASAP

Community news: Jeanne Ennen announces that the next community mentoring meeting is scheduled for May 8th in Morris at the elementary cafeteria at 7 p.m.  Other meetings will be scheduled in the future. Contact her for more info. About 6 Alberta area residents attended the one in Alberta on May 29th

An Open House Bridal Shower in honor of Jessica Nohl, bride to be of Taylor Witt will be held today (Saturday) at the Morris Evangelical Free Church
There will be an open house bridal shower in honor of Chelsea Ringler on Saturday May 10th, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Morris Senior Citizen Center.
May 9th and 10th is the weekend for all town garage sales in Donnelly. 
Meeting on May 5th are the Red hatters, at 9a.m. at the Herman bar and grill; Donnelly city council and rendsville 4-h, at the fire hall and council chambers in Donnelly, at 7 p.m.

Willis Volker of Herman passed away on Apr 24th. His visitation is today Saturday from 2-5 p.m. at the Pedersen funeral home in Morris, no funeral services. Bill and Linda Volker, Geff and Brenda Volker and their families are among the cousins and other family members in the Donnelly area that survive him.
Graveside services for Cathy Elgin will be held at 11 a.m. on May 17th at Calvary cemetery in Morris, she passed away on Jan. 17th. Among her survivors are a sister, Deloris (Donald) Braun of Donnelly, and a sister in law Elaine (Hatlestad) (Loher) Griffith
Wilton “Willie” Bock, of Wheaton passed away on April 25th survivors include his sister in law Debra (Marlyn) Riley of Elbow Lake. Marlyn is a former Donnelly area resident
Isaac Mark Horning was born on April 13, to Jessica and Mark Horning of Minneapolis.  Grandparents are Linda and Ray Weber of Maple Grove, and Pearl and Tom Horning. 
Other celebrations: Beth Holland, Kourtney Geise ,Rebekah and Savannah Aanerud  are members of the tiger girls track team that have placed in the top 10 individually in their events or as members of the relay teams in all their meets to date. Pat Daly won the Morris area schools scholarship car raffle car  
Tiger girls’ bb awards: Rebekah Aanerud hardest worker; Beth Holland MVP, Beth and her sister Becca were named all –conference team in the west central conference
Becca Holland was a member of the tiger sb team that finished third in their own tournament on Apr. 26th
Bryce Jergenson was a member of the tiger bb team that won their own tournament in Morris on Apr 16th
Sydney Beyer of Morris is one of two winners of the L.B. Hartz Academic Achievement Scholarship from Minnesota State University Mankato.
Former Donnelly area resident Scott Boener recently received a lifesaving award from the MN state patrol.


 Apr 26th I traveled to Glenwood to meet PR. Mike Hanson at his home, we traveled to DeGraff to pick up Jon Ahndt then went to the Augustana district convention in Hutchinson.  Well there I had an opportunity to visit with Rev Palius Pilgrim whose grandfather Rev Gastus Pilgrim was a pastor at St. John’s -Donnelly for over 40 years.   In the eve I attended the Philips 66 birthday party at the old # 1 Apr. 27th I attended services at first Lutheran with rev moon as guest pastor then to Neimackl park for the archery shoot. En route home I stopped in to visit with Jim and Lou Eystad in their home in Donnelly. Apr. 30th 50th birthday party for Julie thymian at McGinnis appliance in Morris
