Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news.



Weather news: As I was writing my column last week, they were talking about a blizzard for the weekend, but it never materialized although I understand there was some blowing and drifting in the country on Tuesday. We did get several inches of snow Monday evening, however, which was enough for me to have to blow for the first time this year, and as I am writing this more snow is predicted for this week

St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news:  Chad Smith will lead a course in the use of the defibrillator installed at Kongsvinger in memory of Steve Larson on February 25th following services. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Lenten services continue every week until March 21st at 7 p.m. with lunch afterward and alternating between churches, February 28th at St John’s, March 7th at Kongsvinger.A complete schedule can be found in the February newsletter

KLCW will meet on March 1st at 11 a.m. in the blue room of the West Central Homes, followed by a potluck dinner. Note change of meeting place

Gslc news:  Lenten services continue at the church at 7 p.m. until March 21st   

There will be a Kingdom ball at the Morris Evangelical Free church on March 3rd, 6-8 p.m. at the church

There will be a BOLD women’s event, at First-Morris on February 25th, 12-4 p.m.



Widows and widowers are invited to Sunday lunches at noon in the basement at Old #1, Morris on the following Sundays: March 11, April 8, May 6, June 10, July 8, August 5, September 9, October 14, November 11, December 9. All widows/widowers are invited for lunch on their own and fellowship! Questions, call Rose Murphy, Grief Care Coordinator, Pedersen Funeral Home. There is an elevator in front of the old # 1

St Mary's –Morris annual dinner auction is today (Saturday) 4-10 p.m. at the National Guard Armory in Morris                   

Herman red hatters meet at Human Spring Buffet in Fergus Falls on Monday, March 5th at 11:00 a.m. 

Donnelly city council meets on March 3rd at 4 p.m. in the council chamber

Rendsville 4-h meets on March 5th at 7 p.m. at St. John’s

Copies of the 2018 RTA phone books are now available at HD & co in Donnelly or in other towns served by the company.

Death notice: Millie Wilts of Herman passed away on January 21st survivors include her son Doug (Ellen) Willits & their family of the Donnelly/Chokio area

The Bookmobile will be in town on main st on March 12th 3:45-4 p.m.

The Hancock Owls boys’ basketball team won the Pheasant Conference championship this year; Bennett Nienhaus is a member of that team

Past week a visit to my aunt Pearl in her apt in Morris, Backman welding open house Morris, a visit to friends in the Barret Care center, a visit to my friend Mark Koepke, at his apt in Morris. Lenten services at Gs (w/Eystads)

Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news.

Weather news: temps have not been too bad in the last week, but we have had some cold winds to go with them, forecast says a blizzard for the weekend, however, Wednesday was the mildest day we have had in some time with a high about 50 melting some snow & ice

St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news:  Lenten services continue every week until March 21st at 7 p.m. with lunch afterward and alternating between churches, February 21st at Kongsvinger at 7 p.m. and February 28th at St John’s. A complete schedule can be found in the February newsletter

Donnelly youth club meets on February 21st from 4-6 p.m. at St. John’s
Donnelly fire department meets on February 19th at 7 p.m. at the fire hall

Donnelly community club had their annual meeting on February 12th at the community hall. All directors up for reelection were reelected. Despite the rain last year, we had a good year financially, a reminder this year’s bee is August. 24-26th tri-feature is Oliver, Cockshutt, and Moline. The next meeting is March 12th at 7 pm at the community hall.

Millie Rae Kampmeier was born February 7, 2018, at Stevens Community Medical Center to Mac and Sydney Kampmeier of Chokio, MN. Millie weighed 9 lbs. 4 oz. and was 21 1/2 in. long. Grandparents are Joel and Jamie Beyer of Morris, MN and Tim Kampmeier of Chokio, MN. Great-grandparents are Carol and the late Sid Wilcox of Morris, MN and Ralph Kampmeier of Chokio, MN.
Death notices:  Elizabeth "Liz" Ann Ritter of Graceville passed away on February 12th survivors include her granddaughter Tana (Andy) Erickson of Morris Andy is a former Donnelly area resident

Past week a visit to my aunt Pearl in her apt in Morris, Tony Lesmeister visitation at the funeral home, a visit to Irene Stand and Geesien Kill at heritage apartments, adult Ed, Bible study and Ash wed services at Gs (w/Eystads) a visit to the WWV (villa)

Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news.

Weather news: well the groundhog saw his shadow last week so we are in for 6 more weeks of winter, it has felt that way for the last week, as it has been cold, however, the sun came out Wednesday afternoon and melted some of the snow.
St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news:  On February 11th following the 8:30 a.m. services at Kongsvinger the Kongsvinger cemetery association will hold their annual meeting and following the 11 a.m. services at St John’s their postponed annual meeting will be held.
Lenten services start on Ash Wednesday, February 14 with services at St. John’ at 7 p.m. (no lunch) continues on February 21 st at Kongsvinger at 7 p.m. with lunch afterward and alternating between churches until March 21st  A complete schedule can be found in Feb. newsletter
Installation of officers scheduled for February 11th has been postponed to a later date

Gslc news:  Lenten services start with Ash Wednesday services at 7 p.m. on February 14th at the church and continue until March 21sth    


Other church news: Rev Dan Belgum-Blad has accepted the call to be the new pastor at First Lutheran Morris. He is currently their interim pastor and is from Atwater

Weather news: past week has not been too bad temperature wise but some strong winds have made it feel very cold, no major snow yet
St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news: on February 4th Kongsvinger services will be broadcast on KMRS (1230 am) at 11 am
On February 11th The ST. John’s annual meeting that was scheduled for January 21st but was unable to be held due to a lack of quorum has been rescheduled for following the 11 a.m. services. Also following the a.m. services.the Kongsvinger cemetery association will hold their annual meeting

Other church news: February 4 - Super Bowl Sunday at Hosanna worship center. Pre-game activities at the church will start at 9:30 a.m.  At 10 a.m. we will hear from a professional athlete about finding Christ.  Wear your favorite jersey and bring a friend.
Bishop Jon Anderson of the southwest Minnesota ELCA synod will be at faith-Morris on Tuesday, February 6th from 4:00-5:30p.m. For Listening 2.0

Joe and Linda Holland of Donnelly, and Dean and Jeri Erickson of Chokio wish to announce the engagement of their children, Elizabeth Holland and Chandler Erickson. A wedding date of April 21, 2018, has been set. The couple plans to reside in Chokio. There will be a Bridal Shower for Beth on February 3rd from 9:00-11:00a.m. , at First Lutheran Church they are registered at Herberger’s, Target and B Inspired.
 Mallory Marie Livengood was born January 21, 2018, at Stevens Community Medical Center to Kody and Alisha Livengood of Morris, MN. Mallory weighed 6 lbs. 12 oz. and was 20 in. long. Grandparents are Russ Roske of Donnelly, MN, John and Holly Riley of Morris, MN and Lee and Audra Livengood of Sabetha, KS. Great-grandmother is Shirley Mitzel of Morris, MN.

Stevens’ county Republican Party caucuses will be held on February 6th at 7 p.m. at the old # 1 Southside. Registration starts at 6:30 p.m.; the Stevens County DFL will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Morris area secondary schools for information about caucus locations in other counties or parties contact the county auditor, Minnesota secretary of state’s office or local party officials
Jim and Lou Eystad furnished the lunch at Good Shepherd on January 21 in honor of their 64th wedding anniversary on January 17th

Death notices:  Elbert Holslin of Alberta, passed away on January 24th survivors include his brother in law former Donnelly resident Kermit (Karen) Stahn of Alberta
Former Donnelly area resident Georgia Smith of Morris passed away on January 30th. Local survivors include her brother George (Eliane) Harstad of Herman and their family
