DONNELLY NEWS

Next edition July 9th-15th.
Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news.
Weather news: A couple of shots of rain during the last week gave the crops a boost however for the most part it has been sunny and hot.
STJ/KONG PARISH News: On July 10th service times switch with services at Kong at 8:30 am and St J at 10:15 am.
The July newsletter is now out; extra copies are available in the narthex of each church.
GSLC news: July 17th is new member Sun if wish to join please call 392-5548
The Christian alternative rock group “the city Harmonic” will be appearing at Trinity Lutheran church in Cyrus on July 17th at 7 pm. The concert is free but limited to 250 people so advance reservations are encouraged by calling 287-0409 or e-mailing jmaanum@runestone.net. An offering will be taken for feed my starving children.
The herrlinger family will be in concert at Fron Lutheran in Starbuck on July 16 @ 7 pm and July 17th at 10:45 am.
Luther Crest’s 22nd annual quilt auction will be held today (Sat) at the camp by Alex beginning with a review at 10 am followed by lunch and the auction. The silent auction winners will be announced at 1:00 P.M. during the live auction not afterwards as stated in the parish newsletter.

The tri county horseshoe league will continue to have games at the courts in Donnelly on Tue evenings through Aug. I have also been informed that there will be a ladies sb game on July 25th, this is a makeup date.
On July 11th the red hatters will meet at the Place to be at 1 pm (They will also have a meeting on July 22nd at the 4-h food stand in Herman at 11 am), the bookmobile will be in town at 3:30 pm, and the firemen, Rendsville 4-h club and the Donnelly community club will meet at the fire hall, town hall, and St J at 7 pm.
Congratulations to Brook Gillespie who won several events at the Chokio community picnic games.
Congratulations to the Morris VFW team that won the consolation championship at the Cold Spring/Roccori tournament recently, Chandler Erickson is a member of that team
Congratulations to the Morris legion team that won their own tournament recently. Chandler and Alex Erickson are members of that team. Alex was also named to the 2011 wcc south all -conference team in baseball and was also named MVP of the conference.
Congratulations to Kourtney Giese who received honorable mention on the wcc south conference all-conference team in track.
Congratulations to all the Donnelly area students that made the last quarter honor roll at MAHS too many to mention individually.

Congratulations to Jenna Moser who recently won the Theodore Thorfinnson and the Rex Warfield Cox memorial scholarships at NDSU.

Andy Brevig was among the wsca alumni who recently helped plant the alumni garden at umm
Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended the Kiwanis talent contest at Eastside Park on June 30th. The “Juharis Tribe” won first place. Afterwards I watched part of a Babe Ruth game at eagle’s complex. The black team coached by Rob Jergenson won the game over Vance Gullickson’s orange team
July 3rd Denny Bourssea and I attended the Independence Day celebration at Kong on July 3rd. Later our threshing bee royalty were participants in the heritage day’s parade in Starbuck. After the parade I stopped into the Minnewaska Lutheran home to say hi to some of the residents there and also visited with Darlene Christofferson at her home. Later in the aft Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended the golden wedding celebration for Dick and Myrna Hufford at gslc near Morris
The threshing bee royalty were also part of the 4th of July parade in Hancock; Sami Searle the “trail dusters” queen was also in the parade. Later I watched some of the tractor pull I am sure some of those pullers will also be in Donnelly for our tractor pull. At our last meeting it was decided to add another class for smaller tractors.
Pr. Mike Hanson and I had a chance to sit down for a “get acquainted” visit at the common cup in Morris on July 6th. Later Jim and Lou Eystad and I helped unload some of the items from the old good shepherd Lutheran church from the storage trailer and into the old prairie trailer building. Many of the items (old books, hymnals, tables, chairs, dishes, Christmas decorations etc.) will be sold at a garage sale next month. You can also donate items for the sale for more info call Dianne at 589-1130. Enroute home I stopped in Donnelly to watch the second game of the ladies sb doubleheader.
Joan Kopacek spent an enjoyable week at Luther Crest Bible Camp for Women’s Week.

DONNELLY NEWS

Weather news: for the first time this year we have gone a whole week without any major rains it has been mostly sunny and mild most of the week and things are starting to dry out some the crops in the area are looking very good.
STJ/KONG PARISH News There will be joint services at Kong on July 3rd at 10:30 am, followed by a flag raising ceremony, and potluck dinner. On July 10th service times switch with services at Kong at 8:30 am and St J at 10:15 am.
GSLC news: A trip to valley fair is planned for Aug 7th, vbs will be held on wed eves during Aug. for more info contact Pr. Mike
There will be no wam mtg in July or Aug the next one is scheduled for sept 10th.
Summertime means some sport activities in town. The final ladies sb game in Donnelly will be held July 6th at Aanerud field. The tri county horseshoe league also has games at the court in Donnelly by the PO on Tue eves.
Due to the July 4th holiday the following changes will take place. The city council will meet on July 5th at 7 pm at city hall. On July 11th the red hatters will meet at the Place to be at 1 pm (They will also have a meeting on July 22nd at the 4-h food stand in Herman at 11 am), the bookmobile will be in town at 3:30 pm, and the firemen, Rendsville 4-h club and the Donnelly community club will meet at the fire hall, town hall, and St J at 7 pm.
The po and most Donnelly area business will be closed on July 4th.
There will be an open house for Cammi Aanerud in honor of her graduation from the “century farm academy” on Sat aft July 9th at her home near Donnelly (15290 510th avenue),
Harriet Anderson of Morris passed away on June 28th. A brother Paul (Arlene) Nelson of Donnelly is among the family members who survive her.
Congratulations to Rose (Bob) Uhden who was recently honored for exceeding the membership goal as president of the Herman American legion auxiliary
Congratulations to Jason Strand who was recently chosen to fill the vacant seat on Herman city council.
Congratulations to Tara Flaten who was recently named to the honor roll at Hancock HS
Congratulations to Justin Johnston who recently won a scholarship from the MN Pork board. Congratulations to the Stevens county and Donnelly city attorney Charlie Glassrud who was recently appointed to be a judge in the 8th judicial dist. There will be an open house in his honor in the upper level of the St co courthouse on July 8th from 2:30-4 pm.
Congratulations to Mike Cihak who recently elected treasurer of the Eagles and to Fran Cin who was elected VP of the Eagles Auxiliary.
The Rendsville 4-h recently welcomed two new members Tabitha Van Horn (Josh and Beth Kieffer and the late Curtis Van Horn) and Carter Fults (Joey and Jen)

Bernice Erdahl and I were among the good crowd who attended the Kiwanis talent contest at Eastside Park on June 23rd. The dance group “We Get Up” won first place Justine Huebner was a member of that group, 2nd place went to the dance group “Recharge” Beth Holland and Sydney Byer were members of that group. By the time I got to Donnelly the sb game was over with so I visited with Denny Anderson in his home for a while.
Jim and Lou Eystad and I were among the good crowd that helped Ellen Wilts celebrate her 50th birthday at the Legion in Herman.
On June 25th I traveled to Willmar for the Willmar fest parade, and ran into my classmate Tony Cruze again. After the parade I visited my relatives Milt and Rudy Anderson and Roma Fostervold in their homes. Later the threshing bee royalty were among the participants in the old settler’s reunion parade in Barrett. After the parade it was time for supper ,then I stopped at the home to visit Esther Cline then stopped to look at the remolded lakeside pavilion and finally at the swimming beach but decided the water was too cold for a swim.
Jim and Lou Eystad attended the dedication service of gslc on June 26th. Thanks to everyone who helped to organize the great program, prepare and serve the dinner and esp. to the Good Shepherd Cemetery assoc. for their very generous donation to the church. In the aft I traveled to Alex for the Viking land band festival, Park Center was the grand champion. In the eve I visited a friend in the Bethany Home.
Kellen Erdahl was part of a Rockies LL team that won their playoff game in Donnelly on June 27th.
Vedar Harstad and I attended the men’s health night at scmc on June 29th. Later Deanna Recker and I attended the New Wine homecoming performance at first Lutheran. Suzanne Smith was the keyboardist; Tom Holland, Amber Recker and Kristina Johnson were members of the cast.
Deanna Heuer and I were among those who watched part of the ladies sb games in Donnelly on June 29th.
Pearl Amundson recently spent some time visiting her brother and sister law Chester and Gloria Larson and other family and friends in the area.
Lorraine (Jim) Aanerud returned June 25th from a mission trip to Rwanda, Africa as part of a team of ten from the Maple Grove evangelical Free Church who ministered at a free church Kigali the capital of Rwanda. Her daughter and son in law Laurie and Mike McBride and granddaughters Meghan and Elizabeth were also part of the team. They visited another church and school to encourage them in their ministry. They saw God at work in Africa. While in Africa they also enjoyed a safari in Kenya for three days while they viewed close up the wild animals of Africa.

DONNELLY NEWS

Weather news: Last week was mostly sunny and mild however this week it has rained off and on since Mon eve. What fields there are that have not been planted by now probably will not get planted this year. So far the crops are looking good.
STJ/KONG PARISH News there will be joint services at 8:30 am on June 26th at St J. Please note this is a change from what was announced in the summer schedule. There will also be joint services at Kong on July 3rd at 10:30 am followed by a potluck dinner.
There are also several other changes to previously announced events in the parish, the women’s book club will meet at 3 pm (change of time) on June 27th at Jeanne Ennen’s, the mutual ministry committee meeting has been rescheduled for June 29th at 7 pm at St J, the all committee meeting will be at 9 am on Aug 6th (change of time) and the block party has been rescheduled for that eve.
At the SW MN synod convention held on June 10-12th Kong was given an award for their contributions to the elca world hunger campaign

Correction: Harriet Rice of Morris passed away on June 12th, a nephew Darryl Gulbrandson is among the family who survive her. She was preceded in death by her sister and brother in law Mildred and Lloyd Gulbrandson
Dolores A. Jackson of Sioux Falls SD formerly of Donnelly passed away on Apr. 30th. Among the family members that survive her are her brothers and former Donnelly area residents Ron (Joyce) Holdgrafer of Schaumburg, IL and Gary (Mary) Holdgrafer of Edmonton, AB. she was preceded in death by her brother Delmar. I have posted her obit on my blog.
Myra Speer of Sauk rapids formerly of the Donnelly area passed away on Apr 27th.a memorial service will be held today (Sat) at the united Methodist church in Herman at 11 am
Irene Riedner of Alberta passed away on June 19th among the family who survive her is a granddaughter Elysia (Derek) Woodke and their family
Layla Long was born on June 2nd to Matt and Liza Long, grandparents are Sherman and Sherry Long, great grandparents are Adolph and Virginia Long.
Arden Frank and I were among those who attended the Kiwanis talent show at eastside park on June 16th, Cassie Hickman was the winner, a dance “troupe” “shake a tail feather” earned third place, Hailey Lesmeister (Casey and Daniele) was a member of that group. Earlier in the day I visited my cousin Bev Hurlbult at LL. She informs that her 15 year old granddaughter in Az. recently won a presidential scholarship. Enroute home I stopped in Donnelly to watch some of the ladies sb game.
June 17th I stopped into the center for small towns to visit with David Flugel and later stopped into McCollar Jewelry to visit with Wally some
June 18th Harry Kruize and I were among those who attended the Myron tractor repair sale in Morris. Later Jim and Lou Eystad were among those who attended part of the “play a thon” at Eastside Park in Morris.
June 17th Jim and Lou Eystad were guests of Tom and Colleen Dogotch at the Prairie Inn in honor of Father’s day.
The threshing bee royalty were among the participants in the Runestone day’s parade in Keng on June 19th. Afterwards it was off to tr. pull a quick reminder that we will have one again this year at the bee. Enroute home I stopped at shalom Lutheran for their pie and ice cream social and at the good Sam home in Hoffman to visit some friends.
Doug and Muriel Cardwell and I were among those of us that enjoyed a very exciting LL game in Donnelly on June 21st.
On June 22nd the Thorson Library in E.L. sponsored a presentation by Doug Ohman “Libraries of MN” that I attended. In order to accommodate another event the community club decided not to book him for this year’s bee but hopefully we can have him back for some future bee.
On June 23rd there was a sing a long at Immanuel Lutheran church of rural Barrett that I attended. The next one is July 20th

Sioux Falls - Dolores A. Jackson, loving mother and grandmother, was born July 17, 1942 to Henry and Amelia Holdgrafer. She was raised on a farm near Donnelly, Minnesota and attended Morris High School. She graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Physical Therapy. She dedicated the past 40 years to helping families and children in her profession. Dolores was married to Jerry Jackson in 1964 and moved to Brainerd, Minnesota. While there, she worked at the hospital and started her family. They moved to Sioux Falls in 1971 and raised their five children. Dolores worked as a Physical Therapist for the past 40 years, with the last 22 years in the Sioux Falls School District in the Birth to Three Program. She was an active member of Christ the King Catholic Parish for the past 38 years. Dolores dedicated her life to helping others. Her greatest joys were working with children in her profession and spending time with her grandchildren. She took the time to embrace each child's uniqueness and special qualities. She will be remembered for her work with others and for always placing others needs before her own. She may be best described as sincere, genuine, and gracious. She will be greatly missed by those left to cherish her memory. Blessed to have shared her life are her children, Ann (Randy) Cowan, Mary Jackson, Jeff (Shawn) Jackson, John (Karla) Jackson, all of Sioux Falls, and Tom (Christy) Jackson of Midland, MI; her eight grandchildren, Andrew, Joshua, Davis, Miles, Addy, August, Joseph, Kaylee; and two brothers, Ron (Joyce) Holdgrafer of Schaumburg, IL and Gary (Mary) Holdgrafer of Edmonton, AB.
Dolores, age 68, passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2011 after a short battle with T Cell Lymphoma. She was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 am on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Christ the King Catholic Church. Visitation will begin at 2 pm Wednesday with a prayer service at 7 pm at Heritage Funeral Home, 4800 S. Minnesota Ave.

Weather news: Many farmers in the area took advantage of the dry conditions during the past week to get more fields planted. Others were busy spraying and some were putting up hay. It started to rain Tue eve and rained most of Wed.

There will be LL games at Aanerud field on Mon and Tue eves at 6 pm until June 21st (with the Rendsville 4-h serving lunch) and ladies sb games on June 22nd, 23rd, 29th and on July 6th. The tri county horseshoe league also has games at the court in Donnelly by the PO on Tue eves.
Collne Kloos of Hoffman passed away on June 9th survivors include her husband Lawrence and their family.
Harriet rice of Morris passed away on June 12th, a nephew Darryl (Bev) Gulbrandson is among the family that survives her. She was preceded in death by her sister and brother in law Mildred and Lloyd Gulbrandson

Irene Pasche of Red wing passed away on May 31st, a sister in law Esther Pasche is among the family members who survive her.
Esettle Griffen of Anoka passed away on June 4th among the family members that survive her are her sisters Ruth Moerke and Marvel Wagner.
Brady Derek Woodke was born on June 1 at SCMC to Derek and Elysia Woodke of Hoffman. Grandparents are Steve and Molly Woodke from Morris and Bruce Riedner of Morris and Cindy Riedner of Morris. Great grandparents are Irene Riedner of Alberta and Bob and Dorothy Eisel from Donnelly.
Congratulations to Levin strand, who recently finished his elementary years at H-N without missing a day. He also won an award for perfect spelling the sixth grade.
Congratulations to Brianna Neuman who recently graduated from NDSS in Wahpeton and to Tracey Kopel who graduated from MSU-Morehead
Congratulations to Samantha Larson who made the A honor roll at H-N H.S.
Congratulations to Hope Speer who recently won a national certificate in the national piano playing auditions.
Congratulations to Morris B bb team that recently finished an undefeated season
Chandler Erickson, Tom Holland, and Tyler Henrichs are members of that team.
Congratulations to Ryan Beyer who was recently named to the lions all state all-star BB team.
The Morris area elementary school’s award program was held recently. Among those receiving awards were Brady Loge (Ryan and Jill), Miranda Papesh (Mark and Michelle), Brady Cardwell (Doug and Muriel), Kaman Speer (Duane and Lori), Kellen Erdahl (Brian and Ann), Morgan Biesterfeld (Walt and Kathi), Mason Dunn (Lowell and sandy) and Dakota Leupke (Alan and Mary Uphoff)
June 9th I attended the Kiwanis talent contest in Morris, Laura Kuhn was the winner enroute home I stopped at Aanerud field to watch some of the ladies sb game
Jim and Lou Eystad attended the music concert at the Main St galleria in Hoffman on June 9th. Carrie and Kellie Wilts were participants in it.
The threshing bee royalty were among the participants in the fashion show held at the wwv on June 8th. I understand they did a very good job and were asked to come back again next year.
John, Jack and Joan Kopacek and I were among those who attended the open house at glacial ridge state park by Starbuck on June 11th, Later Bev Larson was among the participants in the Cyrus Days parade, and Logan Mau and Baily Armstrong represented Donnelly in the Chokio parade. Enroute home I stopped to visit Delano and Linda Meyer at their rural Donnelly home.
Bryan Gilbertson and I were among those who attended the sing a long at the Eden reformed church in Herman on June 12th. Afterwards I visited Selma Bruse at the Pullman house.
A good crowd was on hand for the LL game at Aanerud field on June12th and the ice cream social at the hall afterwards. Thanks to the royalty for helping serve the ice cream and the Rendsville 4-h club for making all the good pies they sold at it. After the social it was time for the community club meeting as we continue to make plans for the bee. It will be held on Aug. 27 and 28th this year’s feature will be John Deere. It was decided that next year we will feature “the other green tractor” Oliver
Despite the rainy weather a good crowd was on hand in Benson on June 14th for the Pionnerland Band festival. KMS won the people’s choice award and Mankato won the grand championship/

DONNELLY NEWS

Weather news: For the first time this spring we have had a week of sunny warm temps that has helped dry things out enough to enable farmers to get some fieldwork and planting done. They finally got my fields planted on Wed. The crops that are up are looking very nice.
STJ/KONG PARISH News: The summer schedule with services at St J @ 8:30 am, and Kong at 10:15 am is now in effect. One change is that there will be joint services on the 26th. Copies of the summer schedule are posted at both churches or you can obtain one from the parish office
VBS day camp will be held on June 12th-14th from 6-8 pm at Kong and with a day trip to Luther Crest on the 15th. Open to students who have completed k-6th grade. Contact the parish office for more info.

Dorothy “Dotty” Hilla of Burnsville passed away on May 31st survivors include her niece (Dorothy (Hilla) (Robert) Eisel of Donnelly, she was preceded in death by her husband Don.
Jazzney Star Frank was born to Randy and Kelly Frank on June 2nd. Grandparents are Kenny Frank of Donnelly and Jo Radil of Parkers Prairie, Virgil and Theresa Fults of Morris.

The H-N elementary track and field recently held their 2011 track and field contest. Third grader Kellie Wilts (Doug and Ellen) and Sixth grader Levin Strand won several firsts in their events.
During Memorial Day ceremonies in Hancock a bench was dedicated in memorial park in memory of Kurt Kruize who was killed in Iraq last yr.

On June 3rd I stopped in to visit with my aunt Pearl A. Anderson enroute to Morris. Later Les Cin and I were among the many friends and family who attended the graduation ceremonies at MAHS.
Jim and Lou Eystad and I were among those who attended the wam mtg at Kong on June 4th. Dorothy (Libbon) Desens gave a very good presentation about mission to the Muslims in India. There will be no meetings in July or Aug the next one will be on Sept 10th.
Andy Brevig and I attended the st co rep mtg at Detoy’s on June 6th. Sen. Bill Ingebrigtsen and Rep Torrey Westrom also attended and talked about the past session and the budget stalemate.
Joann Kopel and I were among those who attended the LL game in Donnelly on June 7th; afterwards I watched some of the tri county horseshoe league action.
Elaine Harstad was among the family and friends who attended the memorial service for Ray Holton at Fron Lutheran church in Starbuck on June 3rd. On June 4th she and George traveled to Rochester for the graduation open house of their granddaughter Maren on June 5th.

DONNELLY NEWS

Welcome to graduation edition of the Donnelly news. I have listed the grads I know about for now and if I find out more I will list them in future weeks.
Weather news: Farmers have been busy taking advantage of the few sunny days we have had in the past week to get some crops in but a few days of heavy rain over the weekend have made that a difficult proposition especially in our immediate area. The forecast calls for some sunny and mild temps by the weekend.
STJ/KONG PARISH News: WAM will meet today (Sat) at Kong coffee at 9:30 am program at 10 am, the program will be “mission among the Muslims” Dorothy (Libbon) Desens, formerly of Morris, will report on her recent trip to India on behalf of the new hope mission society and its work among Muslims. If you have ever wondered what word alone was about but were reluctant to travel to other towns I hope you will take this opportunity to attend a local meeting.
The summer schedule starts on June 5th with services at St J @ 8:30 am, and Kong at 10:15 am. Copies of the summer schedule are posted at both churches or you can obtain one from the parish office
VBS day camp will be held on June 12th-14th from 6-8 pm at Kong and with a day trip to Luther Crest on the 15th. Open to students who have completed k-6th grade. Contact the parish office for more info.
The June newsletter is now out; extra copies are available in the narthex of each church.
GSLC news: Pr. Mike will be holding a bible study after coffee hour beginning on June 5th.

On June 6th the red hatters will meet at “a place to be” at 1 pm, the bookmobile will be in town at 3:30 pm, the city council will meet at the council chambers and the Rendsville 4-h will meet at the fire hall both at 7 pm

Summertime means some sport activities in town. There will be LL games at Aanerud field on Mon and Tue eves at 6 pm until June 21st (with the Rendsville 4-h serving lunch)and ladies sb games on June 9th,16th,22nd,23rd 29th and on July 6th. The tri county horseshoe league also has games at the court in Donnelly by the PO on Tue eves.
The Chokio foxy ladies will hold a sb tournament on June 11th in Chokio for more info contact Jessica Huebner at 585-6460
The Don Com club will have their monthly meeting on June 13th at the Donnelly Hall.
Ray Holten of Glenwood passed away this week. Survivors include his wife Carol (Frank) and their family. Her parents were the late Clarence and Myrtle Frank.
Congratulations to Tara Flaten who won several awards during the Hancock high’s awards show held recently
Congratulations to Brooke Gillespie who won 2nd place in 5/6th grade health poster contest at C-A H.S.
Congratulations to the Morris area h.s boys track team that won the sub -section track meet on May 26th Tyler Rouske is a member of that team
Congratulations to the Morris area h.s bb team that won the conference championship on May 26th. Alex Erickson is a member of that team.
Congratulations to Hannah and Samantha Larson who were recently part of duets from the H-N H.S. that won medals at the state FCCLA convention
Congratulations to the Morris area h.s envirothon team that recently finished in fourth place in the state completion. Natalie Johnston is a member of that team and her mother Judy was the coach.
