DONNELLY NEWS

Next edition may 21st –May 27th
Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news. This edition is dedicated to the memory of my aunt (and “mom”) Pearl who passed away last year on May 27th.
Weather news: the end of last week was pretty much as a washout as it started raining Thursday and basically kept raining on and off until early Sun. The sun came out Sun am and it has remained sunny and mild ever since although the evenings are still cool unfortunately the forecast calls for rain again this weekend. As the fields dry out, farmers are busy getting them worked up and planted although there are still a lot of wet spots around the area.
STJ/KONG PARISH News: May 22nd is baccalaureate sun in the parish; there will a brunch in their honor at 10 am at Kong and they will be recognized during services.
There will be joint services at St J at 8:30 am on May 29th
VBS day camp will be held on June 15th at Luther crest. Contact the parish office for more info.
Congratulations to Samantha Greiner who won a perfect attendance award from the parish ss and to all the other award winners too numerous to mention. Thanks also to Supt Laura Lehman and all the ss teachers for their hard work during the past year.
We want to welcome the newest member of our parish Brenden Jon Hughes son of Jon and Toni (Kloos) Hughes who was baptized at Kong on May 15th.

GSLC news: Rev Michael Hanson of Glenwood will be installed as pastor of gs on May 22nd during services at 9 am followed by a pot luck dinner (no ss). Everyone is welcome to join the celebration. His first service will be on May 29th.
There will be a farewell dinner and program on May 21st for Rev Ali Boomershine at First Lutheran in Morris following the 10:45 am service.

There will be a benefit for Clay and Melanie Van Horn today (Sat) at the community center and park in Alberta. They lost their possessions in a house fire in Dec. Dinner will be from 11-3 (free will donation). There will also be a silent auction, petting zoo, and pony rides.
Dorothy Kent of Benson formerly of the Donnelly area passed away on May 15th. A sister in law Virene Olson of Morris is among the family members that survive her. Her parents were the late Carl and Hazel Peterson of Donnelly
Congratulations to Tyler Rouske who won the 200 meter dash in the regional true track meet recently
Congratulations to the following Rendsville 4-her’s that have earned a trip to the state in knowledge bowl, MaKenzie smith, Kendra Sperr, Natalie Johnston, Cammi ,Rebecca and Savannah Aanerud
Congratulations to the C-A H.S. mixed ensemble-vocal that won a superior rating at the state music contest Alex Erickson is a member of that group.
Congratulations to Brady Gillespie, who was recently selected as the boy state representative, from c-a.
Congratulations to the Morris –CA SB team that won the wcc south championship on May 17th.Beth Holland and Hailey Henrichs are members of that team.
Congratulations to Joan Kopacek who was recently elected president of the VFW auxiliary
Pearl A. Anderson and I attended the ice cream social at the WWV on May 13th. Later in the aft I attended the visitation for Ron Hottovy at the Pedersen funeral home. His brother- in- law and I were classmates. In the eve it was off to Trinity in Cyrus for the concert by “Dakota Road”. At the concert, Tammy Speer announced that the “feed my starving children packing event” will return to Morris again in late Aug.
Many friends and family members were among those of us who attended the UMM commencement on May 14th.
Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended services at gs on May 15th. The guest preacher was Rev Paulus Pilgrim of Hutchison. His grandfather G. A. Pilgrim was pastor at Peace in Morris and St J in Donnelly for 40 years.
Ken Cline reports that his wife Esther is out of the hospital and back in the Barrett care center.
Wally McCollar was among those who attended the committal service for Harry “Buzzy” Olsen at St Theresia’s cemetery on May 14th. Others attending included his children, Bill and Mary Drips and some of their family, and several members of the Winkels family
Jody and Colleen Wilke of St Cloud came up on May 18th to visit his mother Pearl A. Anderson and help her out with some yard work.
Several weeks ago the west central Minn. cattleman’s association teamed up with Willie’s sv for a beef promotion event. One of the cattleman helping out at that event was my classmate Jerry Wulf and he said I should put it in my column that they were doing that. Since I aim to please I am.

DONNELLY NEWS

Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news.

Weather news: A nice Easter weekend has been bookended by cloudy, cool and damp weather. There is still some snow left and as far as I know no field work in the area yet.

STJ/KONG PARISH News There will be a May Day luncheon at St J on May 1st at 12:30 pm. There will also be a raffle associated with it. For tickets to the luncheon or to purchase a raffle ticket, contact Sandy Dunn at 246-3292.

Congratulations to Samantha Greiner and Garret Eystad who received first communion at Kong on Apr. 21st. Samantha parents are Greg and Donna, grandparents are Rollie and Jan. Garret’s parents are Marty and Mindy; grandmother is Bonnie Haynes great grandmother is Irene Strand.



GSLC news: a quick reminder that services are now being held at the church site on 480th ave.

GS and Kong both looked very festive on Easter Sunday thanks to everyone who furnished flowers for them. Special thanks also to those who provided the special music in both churches.

Dean Mthethwa from the SW MN companion synod in South Africa will be the speaker at Faith Lutheran in Morris on May 4th at 7 pm

The Morris e free church will open from 6 am -9 pm on May 5th for those who wish to participate in ndp activities I was told there will be no observance at the library this yr.

Tickets are now on sale for the new wine show at first Lutheran in May for more info call 589-3242.

Zion Lutheran in Morris will have their ABC sale from 8-11 am

There will be an open house baby shower for Kelly and Randy Frank (expecting a baby girl) from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Morris Senior Center. Everyone is welcome. Kelly is the daughter of Virgil and Theresa Fults and Randy is the son of Kenny Frank

There will be a Donnelly girls get together at 1 pm at the culvers restaurant in Rogers MN. Any ladies who have lived in Donnelly area are welcome. For more info call Doddie (Overson) Williams at 763-477-5360

The 2nd annual Mitch Kleindl memorial archery shoot will be held at Niemakel Lake Park today (8-5) and tomorrow (May 1st)(8-3). For more info call 808-0447 or 808-4562

There will be an open house at the Christus House in Morris beginning at 5:30 pm. Several people who participated in the spring break mission trip to Calif. will give a presentation about it.

The St Co Humane soc will have their annual meeting at 7 pm at the common cup.

On May 2nd the red hatters will meet at the place to be on at 1 pm. (Please bring a $3 May basket.) The bookmobile will be in town, the city council and Rendsville 4-h will meet at 7pm in the city and fire hall.

The spring meeting of the Tri county Horseshoe league will be held at the Place to be on May3rd at 7:30 pm. For more info call 246-3475

Citywide garage sales will be held in Donnelly on May 5th and 6th.

St co gen soc mtg May 5th 1:30 pm Morris public library

The following events will be held on May 7th :

Wam will meet at Trinity in Benson coffee at 9:30 am program at 10 am .the speaker will be Anne Gran from Alex about her recent trips to Ethiopia

There will be an open house wedding shower for Gerald and Erica Loher III, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Kongsvinger Parish Hall, rural Donnelly. All are welcome. His parents are Jerry Jr. and Jody Loher grandparents are Gerald Loher Sr. and Bertha Larson.

There will be an open house for Mitchell Heinrich in honor of his graduation from the “School of Tomorrow” (home school) from 2- 5 pm at the Morris Sr. Center. His parents are Scott and Beth, grandmother is Lillian

The Don Com club will meet on May 9th at 7 pm.

Tom Cross of Isile, Minn passed away on Mar 12th; survivors include his wife Yvonne (Waller) and her family. Her parents were the late Orval (Shorty) and Mamie Waller

Many from the Donnelly area attended the benefit for Sharon Anderson at the Legion on Apr. 23.

Andy Brevig and I attended the st co rep mtg at Detoy’s on Apr 25th.

Jim Eystad is now home after spending 5 days in the Morris hospital. On Apr 27th we attended the rummage sale at Faith in Morris.

DONNELLY NEWS

Next edition May 1st –may 7th

Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news. If you put an announcement in one of my boxes please put your name on it so I can contact you if I need more info.
Weather news: Temps have continued to remain mild although the nights still remain cool. Some rain over the weekend has helped freshen things up and give the crops a little boost. Farmers are busy taking advantage of the nice weather to get their crops in. It looks like most of the corn is in .My neighbor said they have prepared the ground but have not planted any beans yet and will probably wait until next week to do so. Some of the early crops are already up
STJ/KONG PARISH NEWS: May 23rd is baccalaureate Sun. Everyone who has a graduate(s) in the parish this yr is asked to submit their name(s) to the parish office.
Our parish, in conjunction with Bethel Lutheran of Herman, will again be participating in a VBS day camp, led by counselors from Luther Crest on Aug 1-5th, from 9-4 pm. Registration forms may be obtained from either parish office.
WordAlone Ministries will meet today (Sat) at Our Savior’s Lutheran church in Chokio, coffee at 9:30 am; program at 10 am. Prof. Jon Sorum will speak on "Why We Need a New Beginning". Everyone welcome
There will be an area Lutheran worship service at the Hancock community center on May 2nd at 10 am. Everyone is welcome. For more info call 392-5670
There will be an ndp gathering on may 6th at noon at the library in Morris and also at the community building in E.L.
The red Hat society will meet on May 3rd at sax’s cafĂ© at 9 am. Those attending are asked to bring a small plant for exchange.

The Donnelly com club will meet on May 10th at 7 pm at the community hall.

The Viking bookmobile stops in Donnelly on the first and third Mon of ea month from 3:30-4pm

Last week I mentioned that Bailey Armstrong had won a poster contest at the WCA elementary school. The contest was sponsored by the MN rural water assoc in celebration of Nat. water wk. Her poster went on to state competition where it was judged to be the best in the state. It will be featured on the cover of MWRA’S technical mag 2010 summer edition. Several members of her family traveled to Keng for the awards ceremony.

Congratulations to the silver pewee hockey team that won the dist 15 b2 championship in hockey on Feb. 21st. Brady Jergenson is a member of that team and his dad Rob is a coach.

Congratulations to the MAHS track team that won the Minnewaka track meet and placed 2nd in the Morris invite. Tyler Rouske is a member of that team he finished 5th in the sprints at Minnewaka and 3rd in Morris and 3rd at Minnewaka and 6th in Morris in the long jump.

An open house Baby shower will be held for Trent and Robyn Grossman today (Sat) from 2-4 pm at the Morris sr center. Trent is the son of Tim and Tammie Grossman and grandson of Bob and Myrna Tomalla.

Katie Braaten and Adam Erickson are engaged and plan to be married on July 31, 2010 at Long Lake Lodge in Brandon. Katie is the daughter of Barry and Jodie Braaten of Glenwood. Adam is the son of Mark and Deb Erickson of Donnelly and grandson of Evelyn Raasch of Morris.

Avery Ryan Kellen was born on April 19, 2010 at Stevens Community Medical Center, Morris, to Ryan and Tanya Kellen of Norcross. Grandparents are Patrick and Sheryl Waste of Maple Lake, Douglas Gulbrandson of Herman and Marsha Kellen of Wheaton and David Kellen of Herman. Great grandparents are Pearl Struck of Rogers, Sylvia Volker of Herman, Levern and Laura Kellen from Fort Walton Beach, Fla.

Kenneth A. Spittle, age 89, of Hendricks, Minnesota, passed away on April 9, 2010. Among his survivors is his daughter in law Colleen Spittle and family of E.L. He was preceded in death by his son Sid who was the manager of the Donnelly co-op for many years.

Grace Dosdall Heinrich, age 84 of Coon Rapids, passed away on April 13, 2010. Among the family that survives her are a brother and sister in law Chuck Heinrich and Phyllis Dyer of Morris formerly of Donnelly. She was preceded in death by her husband Fredrick and brother in law Julius.

Phyllis Smith of Morris formerly of Donnelly passed away on Apr 28th. Her funeral is today (Sat) at first Lutheran in Morris at 2:30 pm

On Apr. 23 and 24th I traveled to United Lutheran in E.L. for a sad and a happy occasion involving two old family friends. On Fri I was among the many family and friends who attended the memorial service for Hank Schroeder. He had a store on main St in E.L. for many yrs so when we were up for “Crazy Daze’s” during Flekefest we always had to go into the store to say “hi” to him. On Sat many of us returned to the church for the 90th birthday party for Dorothy Westrom she is Torrey’s grandmother. Earlier in the day I attended the "ABC" sale at Zion in Morris and was among a good crowd at the arts festival at MAHS.

A good crowd of family and friends was on hand on Apr 25th at Kong to help Lou Eystad and Denny Bourassa celebrate their birthday’s

Apr 26th a good crowd was on hand for the community dinner at the sr center in Morris. Enroute home I stopped in to visit Denny Anderson at his home in Donnelly.
