donnelly news



Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news.

It has been mostly sunny and mild during the last week. So far we have had only some light dustings of snow.

In St. John’s/Kongsvinger News: The Sunday school program will be held on Dec. 19 at 9:45 a.m. at St. John’s and on Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. at Kongsvinger.

Service times will switch on Dec. 16 with Kongsvinger worshiping at 8:30 a.m. and St. John’s at 11 a.m.

Chevelle Whitmore was baptized at Kongsvinger on Dec. 3. Her parents are Nathan Whitmore and Crystal Henrichs.

The December newsletter is now out. Extra copies are available in the narthex of both churches.

From Good Shepherd Lutheran Church: There will be advent services on Dec. 12 and 19 at 7 p.m.

Good Shepherd and St. John’s/Kongsvinger parish both have a hat /mitten tree this year. Contact either church for details.

There will be a Service of Remembrance on Dec. 9 at 4 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris.

There will be a cookie factory at Faith Lutheran Church in Morris on Dec. 15 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Santa will be at the Donnelly Hall Dec. 9 at 1 p.m.

Dani Kloos, daughter of Phil and Kris, was severely injured in a car crash near Alexandria last week and a Caring Bridge site has been set up at http://www.caringbridge. org/visit/danikloos.

Scott Hunter Jensen was born on Nov. 12 to Christeena Jensen of Donnelly. Grandparents are Theresa Pagel of Morris and Mick Higgins and Cheryl Beebe of Donnelly.

Elin Milla Koehl was born on Nov. 5 to Lucas and Tracy Koehl of Morris. Grandparents are Roy and Jenell Koehl of Morris and Charles and Deb Hacker of Hancock. Great grandparents are Alice Wulf of Lester, Iowa, Donald and Janet Hacker of Hancock, and Wanda LeSage of Phoenix, Ariz.

Mary Teresa Clarke of Murdock passed away on Dec. 1. Survivors include her daughter, Sue (Joe) Jost of Donnelly.

Margaret Carlsen of Cyrus passed away on Dec. 4. Survivors include her daughter Jodi (Tim) Jergenson.

Former Alberta resident Harvey Andert died Dec. 4 in St. Cloud. Among the survivors is his cousin Jerry Kopacek.

Melanie Van Horn was named the recipient of the Morris Area High School citizenship award for the junior class for first quarter.

Among those receiving Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta Tiger football awards recently were Chandler Erickson - outstanding receiver West Central Conference; Tom Holland - outstanding offensive player, and the state academic team; Tom and Chandler were named to the all-conference team. The team received a gold academic award from the Minnesota Coaches Association. Tom Holland was also a co-winner of the Lions’ Merle Felstul award.

Savannah Aanerud and McKenzie Smith of the Tiger girls’ cross country team were named to the all-conference team. McKenzie was named the team’s most valuable player, academic all state, player of the week, and she was co-winner of the Lions’ Merle Felstul award. Both the girls’ and boys’ cross country teams won a gold academic award. Bo Gullickson is a member of the boys’ team.

Jim and Lou Eystad helped with the bazaar at the Morris Senior Center on Dec. 1. Bernice Erdahl worked at the museum’s open house that day.

Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended the sing-along at St. John’s on Dec. 2. Afterwards I visited Sam and Dorothy Jordheim.

Joan Kopacek was among those who attended a meeting regarding the future of the Donnelly Post Office. She tells me that it was announced that Donnelly is going to become a satellite of Morris sometime early next year.

On Dec. 4, I stopped into McCollar Jewelry to wish Wally a belated 75th birthday.

The United Farmers and Merchants State Bank is a drop off place for the Toys for Tot drive. The deadline is approaching for this program, so please bring your donations in soon.
