Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news

Weather news:   some sub 0 temps snow on the ground reminds us that old man winter is on his way. Farmers around here are done for the year as far as I know but I talked to a friend from the Fargo-Morehead area who said there was a lot to get harvested up there yet as it was still very wet in that area

ST John’s/Kongsvinger news: st johns' meat raffle will be held on Dec 8^th tickets available from any St John's member or the parish office

Kongsvinger Lutheran church women advent brunch will be held on Dec 12^th at 9:30 a.m. note change of date.

Sunday school program will be held on Dec 19^th at 7 pm followed by a time of fellowship. There will be only one performance this year.

Good Shepherd news:  the Sunday school program will be held on Dec 15 during the regular church services at 9 a.m. In the aft there will be a dedication service for the new addition followed by an open house

Good shepherd sent 94 shoe boxes out as part of operation Christmas child.

Dec 7^th will be a busy day with a number of open houses, bake sales, craft fairs, bazaars and other events happening around town (at the museum, Sr center ,prca etc.)

Pedersen funeral home will have their annual time of remembrance Dec 8th at 4 pm

Flossie Mathison passed away on Nov 22^nd survivors include a niece Deb (Mark) Erickson of Donnelly and their family

Former Donnelly area resident “Winnie” Marth of the Herman area passed away Nov 19^th.the Kopacek family was among some other donnelly area residents that attended her funeral in Herman on Nov 29th

Former Donnelly area resident Marjorie Armstrong of Morris passed away on Nov 25^th. Her funeral is today (Saturday) at 10 a.m. at Faith Lutheran in Morris. She and her family were former neighbors of mine on the farm and have been lifelong friends.

Celebrations:  Tal Arkay Frank and Nash Arkay Frank were born Nov 15th to Randy and Kelly frank grandparents are Virgil and Theresa Fults and Ken Frank and Joan Radil.

Tiger cross county awards newcomer award: Becca Holland, Most Valuable Player: ayer;  in Morrisrise apto in dSavannah Aanerud and west central conference all-conference team.

Bryce Jergenson was named captain of the tiger basketball team.

Gage Backman was recently given a mentor scholarship and college now scholarship at SW state university in Marshall

Les Kopel, Kendon Lang, Dave Lonegran were recently elected members at large for the Stevens county fair board

 in the past week I have attend bible study at Good Shepherd ,fireman's bingo in Donnelly (with Mark), the fall festival at Kongsvinger ,visitation and funeral for Flossie Mathison in Morris, and  visited with Gary Weers at his apartment in the sunrise apartments in Morris.

Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news  this being thanksgiving week I want to say Manga Takk to all my loyal readers out there who have helped make this column a success.

Weather news:   some cold winds and near 0 temps during the past week are vivid reminders that we live in Minnesota.  Most farmers are done with their work for the year there are still a few with some crops to harvest and some fall tillage to be done others are busy doing some ditching tiling etc.

ST John’s/Kongsvinger news: the Kongsvinger fall festival is Nov 24^th

, beginning at 11 a.m.  On the menu grilled pork chops, baked potatoes, hot dishes and salad, there will be a bake sale and raffle items. Tickets available at the door

Good Shepherd news:  Mission of the month is “Haiti Mission to the Nation’s” Coffee money is going to gift/mitten tree youth project.

Thanksgiving eve services will be held at Good Shepherd and also at Kongsvinger at 7 pm on Nov 27^th. Good shepherd offering will go the Philippines relief effort Kongsvinger will go to the Stevens county food shelf

Other church news Thrivent for Lutherans invites you to a Christmas story by jean shepherd on Dec 8^th at 2 pm at the Alex Area Arts Association, more info contact the Thrivent office at 589-1731.

Bernice evon nystuen of Morris passed away on Nov 13^th survivors include her brother in law Ken Pedersen

Celebrations tiger volleyball awards Beth Holland defensive Most Valuable Player and west central conference all conference; tiger football Gage Backman outstanding defense and all -conference

Mackenzie Smith was named MSU /Courtyard by Marriott “athlete of the week”. She fished 44^th out of 203 runners at the central region meet in Sioux Falls SD

Deann Recker was named co support staff member of the year at Morris area schools at a recent staff recognition event she also honored for 20 years of service Vicky Beyer was one of the other nominees. Other recognized include Sharon Carlson (35 years), Kayla Erdahl (5 years), Sharon Carlson (10 years), and Kris Kloos (15 years).

Ezekiel Craig Swanson was born on Nov 4^th to Amy and Craig Swanson of Morris. Grandparents are Ralph and Mary Huebner, great- grand mother is Joyce Strand

The threshing bee royalty, and the St John’s/ Kongsvinger youth group, were among the participants in the parade of Lights on Nov `14^th.  Before and after the parade I attended some of the open houses around town. 

Nov 17^th I attended the Thrivent workshop at the Old # 1 Southside in the aft and in the eve the Stevens county Ag society meeting as they start making plans for next year’s fair. 

Nov 18^th Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended the final bible study on revelations at good shepherd.

For the next few months I will be writing an abbreviated column as I take some time off to catch up on some work and other things.

I had a request for the names of the Donnelly fire department fire and rescue squad I have posted a copy of the letter that was sent out to Donnelly area residents with the names on it on the Donnelly news face book page

Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news:

Weather news:   some very cool temps this week are a reminder of what is to come. Most farmers in the area have their crop in, and fall tillage done, some are doing some tilling and other odds jobs.  Considering the late spring and dry summer a farmer friend I talked to was happy with the yields they got and despite the rain not too much drying was required either.

 Marge Beyer of Morris passed away on Nov 7^th survivors include her daughter in laws: Carol (Benston) (Ed) and their family; and Jamie (Wilcox) (Joel) and their family

Celebrations: Tiger tennis awards Brittany Cardwell, most improved; Carly Gullickson, sportsmanship award.

Tiger athletes of the week during the fall sports season were: Carly Gullickson, Beth Holland, Rebekah and Savannah Aanerud, and Gage Backman

FFA awards: Marketing team, Silver, Joanna Moser was a member of that team, Ag issues team; Bronze, Rebekah Aanerud and Melanie Van Horn were members of that team. The chapter as a whole received 3 star award.

Significant anniversary celebrations: Herb and Carol Kloos, who are celebrating, their 60^th wedding anniversary, this month,  and  Scott and Kathy Bahr, who recently celebrated 30 years of marriage.

Several of us from the Donnelly area were among those who attended the Scandinavian heritage dinner at First Lutheran in Morris on Nov 6^th, en route home; I stopped to visit with Wally McCollar at his shop in Morris

Nov 8^th I visited my aunt Pearl A. Anderson at her apartment in the Sunrise Apartments

Nov 10^th several of us from the gs church attended the hymn sing at Federated church, in the evening I attended the Tim Danial concert at Morris area high school auditorium

Nov 11^th the Donnelly community club had their last meeting of the year, putting the wraps on another good year for the club. Afterwards I visited with Jim and Lou Eystad at their home in Donnelly. Jim was one of the veterans honored at the Veterans Day program at the school earlier in the day.  She said they had been to the dinner at the Mennonite church by Starbuck on Nov. 8^th.

Nov 12^th I attended the Grant County Ag society annual meeting in Herman.

Nov 13^th Mark and I attended the meatball supper at Faith Lutherran in Morris

I've had a request for Mark's address: it is 151 sunnyslope rd.  324-114 Morris MN 56267 e-mail: firebird357 @ Yahoo.com he has an unlisted # if you want it call me at 585-6435 and I will give it to you. He is doing good, had his post op on the 12^th, still tired and has some pain, but otherwise recovery is going good. The good news is that he does not have to go back to the cities, unless something unexpected happens, he will be able to be treated here in Morris.

Katherine Kay Weispfenning was born on October 12 at the United and Children’s Hospitals in Saint Paul to Ryan and Anna Weispfenning of Blaine.   Grandparents are Corrine Larson of Donnelly and Bill and Diane Weispfenning of Jamestown, N. D.  Great-grandmothers are Bertha Larson of Donnelly and Colleen Erickson of Jamestown, N. D.

Andy Brevig was recently appointed an officer in the local sons of Norway chapter

Mark Koepke was the week #6 winner the sun tribune football contest.

The tiger volley ball team won the section 3 AA north title Beth Holland was a member of that team

Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended the bible study at Good Shepherd on Oct 30^th.

I attended worship services at the West Wing Village on Oct. 31^st, with PR. Mary leading the services there; afterwards I introduced her to some of the staff and residents there

Nov 2^nd I traveled to Hancock for the open house at the school and also took in the Hancock expo

Nov 3^rd Joan and John Kopeck and I attended the welcome dinner for PR Mary at Kong. We met her sister and daughter at the dinner. Later in aft I was among those who attended the farewell program for PR John Smith at Trinity in Cyrus

Nov 4^th while visiting Mark in his apartment, we talked to his brother Jimmy on the phone down in FL.

Mark Koepke is home recuperating after having eye surgery on Nov 6^th at Fairview hospital in Minneapolis. As of this writing his recuperation from it is going good, we will know after he returns to the cities for his checkup on the 12^th. Thanks to everyone for all your prayers on his behalf.

Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news: this week’s issue is dedicated to the memory of my aunt Mabel Van Olst, who passed away on November 10^th 2002

Weather news   farmers have been busy taking advantage to the nice weather to get their crops in, yields have been fair. Lack of propane for drying crops has hindered efforts, to get it all done.  October 29^th was a preview of things to come, when we woke up to snow on the ground

ST John’s/Kongsvinger news: There will be joint services at Kongsvinger, on November 3^rd, at 11 a.m. followed by a welcome dinner for PR. Mary.

Church council will meet on November13th at Kong note change of meeting place.

Ted Uhden of Redmond Oregon passed away on October 1^st survivors include his brother Bob (Rose) and his family of Donnelly

Pearl Minnie Jipson   of Portland Oregon passed away on Sept 22^nd survivors include her sister in law Linda (cliff)   Hatlestad  

Audrey Gronwold of Tintah passed away on October 27^th survivors include her daughter Louise (Randy) Werk and their family

Jody Wilke of St Cloud spent some time over the weekend visiting his mother Pearl Anderson

October 25^th I attended the Minnesota citizens concerned for Life fall tour at the senior center in Alexandria, before the meeting I visited with a friend in the Bethany home.

October 26^th I attended the 60^th anniversary celebration of Sarlettes music at their store in Morris

Makayla Mau (Maynard and Lori) and Mason Dunn (Lowell and Sandy) were confirmed at Kongsvinger on October 27^th. At the Thrivent reception afterwards we sang happy birthday to Glen Werk. Several members of his family were home to help him celebrate.  Family and friends of the Mau’s and Dunn’s enjoyed a dinner together afterwards at the parish hall. In the aft Mark and I attended the Halloween party at the hall.  On the 28^th we attended the nonprofit expo at the Morris area high school, latter I attended a meeting of the Stevens county Republican Party steering committee at Detoy’s. I then traveled to assumption for the john Micheal Talbot event.

Adam Uphoff (Alan and Mary) was confirmed at faith on October 27^th.

I put a new box in the post office in Donnelly to replace the one that disappeared

          Oct 26^th -Nov 1st

Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news: this week’s issue is dedicated to the memory of my Dad, who passed away on October 31^st 2005.

Weather news: most of the past week has been cloudy cool and rainy with some occasional sunshine. Now that is has quit raining, farmers are busy making up for lost time getting the corn and other crops out.

ST John’s/Kongsvinger news: Makayla Mau and Mason Dunn will be confirmed on October 27^th, during joint services, at Kongsvinger, at 11 a.m.

There will be joint services at Kongsvinger, on November 3^rd, at 11 a.m. followed by a welcome dinner for PR. Mary.

Good Shepherd news:  a study on Luther’s large catechism will be starting soon; you can order one from the church, if you do not currently have one.

Operation Christmas Child is now underway, pick up a box and fill it up with supplies (sheet included in box), and return it to the church by November 18^th

Other church news: John Michael Talbot in concert at Assumption Catholic church on October 27th-29^th @ 7p.m. each night.

Community news: Halloween party will be held at the Donnelly Hall on Sunday (not Saturday as previously advertised), October 27 from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m.  Costume judging takes place at 4 p.m.  Everyone is welcome! 

There will be a nonprofit expo at the Morris area high school gym on October 28^th from 5-7:30 p.m.

Stevens County Genealogical society will meet on November 7^th at 1:30 p.m. at the library

Celebrations: the 5 and 6^th grade tackle football team won the championship in Willmar recently. Brady Loge was a member of that team his Dad, Ryan was one of the coaches

Kallan Roger Koehntop was born on October 11^th at Douglas County Hospital, to Kyle and Mandi Koehntop of Morris. Grandparents are Parker and Renee Kloos of Donnelly and Roger and Bonnie Koehntop of Morris. Great grandparents are Herb and Carol Kloos, Gerald and Kay Laager, Wilfred and Doris Arens, and Maynard Koehntop.

Tiger Sports boosters athletes of the week include, Savannah and Rebekah Aanerud and Carly Gullickson.

Jerry and Joan Kopacek spent an enjoyable weekend at Luther Crest Bible Camp helping out with the Camp’s Quilt Auction at Carlos Creek Winery on October 19^th.

Mark and I attended the customer appreciation breakfast at super valu on October 18^th, in the afternoon I attended the 97^th birthday party for Flossie Mathison at the courage cottage.

Duane Dahlen of Herman passed away on October 15^th survivors include his great aunt. Claudia Wilhite. I attended his visitation on October 26^th, at the Erickson Smith funeral home in Elbow Lake.

Mark and I attended the school board meeting in Donnelly on October 21^st afterwards we visited Herb and Carol Kloos at their home in Donnelly.

October 22^nd I attended a presentation on “Going to Work: The New Deal in Minnesota” by Doug Ohman in Elbow Lake at the Sanford room in the community building.

October 23^rd Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended Bible study at Good Shepherd in the a.m. then I went to the West Wing Village for the presentation “School House Memories” and in the eve “Cemeteries of Minnesota” at the Morris library both by Doug Ohman
