Welcome to another addition of the Donnelly news
Weather news: most of the last week has been sunny and humid; air conditions and fans have had a good work out esp. over the weekend. Thankfully we escaped the severe weather that hit other parts of the state i.e. Brainerd. Crops esp. the corn continues to look fantastic although we can use more rain. As I drove to Barrett Wed. evening I saw several irrigation systems going when I got to the Hy. 27/59 intersection I hit a major down pour when I got home I saw we had had some rain here.

St John’s/Kongsvinger news: the summer worship schedule continues until further notice
The original 1980 Kong Kookbook has been reprinted, to purchase one contact the parish office at 246-3211
Good shepherd news: there will be no bible study on July 21st as Pr Mike will be gone on continuing education
Other church news: VBS-Bethel Lutheran Morris July 20-24th 9 a.m. -11:30 a.m. more info 392-5524 and at the First Baptist church -Morris on July 27-30th from 6:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.
Community news: On July 20th the bookmobile will be in town at 3:30 p.m. on main st and the firemen will meet all at 7 p.m. at the fire hall in Donnelly
"Meet the Candidates" (threshing Bee royalty) is Monday July 27th at 7:30 p.m. followed by a special community club mtg .Donnelly Threshing Bee will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year so the Royalty Committee will be hosting a Past Royalty Reunion to be held on that Saturday (29th) of the Bee. It is going to be a fun, busy “Bee" weekend.
There will be an open house baby shower for Brianna Neuman-Summer today (Saturday) from 10 a.m. to noon at the Morris Senior Center. Everyone is welcome
The LTD annual motor cycle run will be held today (Saturday) starting in Appleton at 10 a.m. traveling through the area with a stop in Morris about 12:45 p.m., I understand this will their last ride.
Rocking c horse ranch (Van Horn’s) will have its grand opening on Aug 1st from 1-7 p.m. at the farm (59312 150th St Donnelly) with a variety of activities. Tickets available at the gate
“Ms. Dawn Nellie” Pageant will be held on Friday evening, July 24, at the Donnelly Hall at 7:30 p.m. Come and watch local talent vie for the coveted title of “Ms. Dawn Nellie!”  Refreshments will be served.  Everyone is welcome Tickets will be available at the door this is a fundraiser for the 50th aniv celebration of the bee

Death notice: former Donnelly area resident Keith Sorensen passed away on July 10th a celebration of life will be held on July 19th in Rochester.

The Men’s fishing league results: swamp busters 2nd place, team members included Gary Gulbrandson, 3rd place sharp filets; members included Ryan Smith and Nancy Kisgen
Chad Swanson and Peggy Jergenson were the final button winners during Ppd in Morris
Sheila Hemming and Michael and Shelly Storck of Morris along with Michael and Cheryl Hahn of Grand Forks, N.D., are excited to announce the engagement of their children Amber Storck and Jared Hahn. Amber’s great grandmother was Olga Sax from the Donnelly area
The threshing bee royalty were part of the prairie pioneer days parade in Morris on Aug 13th 
Becca Holland won the 1-on-1 award at the recent girls’ bb camp at MAHS
The community club held another lengthy meeting on July 13th as we continue to finalize plans for the bee and other events. Weather news: crops continue to look very nice. My neighbor’s rain gauge said we got 3 inches of rain on Sun eve which I understand caused some local flooding in Morris. People I have talked to in the Donnelly area said they got anywheres from no rain to about an inch
St John’s/Kongsvinger news: there will be joint services at 9 a.m. at Kongsvinger every Sunday and at 7 p.m. every Wed. eve at St John’s throughout July and Aug.
The Kongsvinger Krusaders will again be participating in the Stevens county relay for Life on July 17th from 6 p.m. to midnight at Pomme de Park; contact Algene Larson or Sandy Dunn for more info, to make a donation, purchase a luminaire, or to participate as a walker
Other church news: the new location for “Burgers, Beverages and Blessings” on Wed evenings at 7 p.m. is at the old #1 Southside unless it is in use then it will be held in the basement.
Community news, on July 13th the community club and firemen will meet all @ 7 p.m. in Donnelly at the fire and community halls in Donnelly
There will be two open house bridal showers today (Saturday): the first is for Breanna Kruize, bride to be of Mitch Daly, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Morris. Parents are Peg and Brian Kruize and Pam and Paul Daly. Bring your favorite recipe; the second one is for Miranda Hauglund, bride to be of Josh Roaldson, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the residence of Vicky Dosdall, 44725 175th St., Morris. Miranda is the daughter of Jim and JoAnn Hauglund of Donnelly. The couple is registered at Target, Bed Bath and Beyond and Fleet Farm gift cards.
From Sandy Dunn: Nominations for our 2015 Donnelly Threshing Bee Royalty candidates are now open July 1 - 15.  Look for drop boxes in Donnelly at these locations.  Donnelly Coop, Donnelly Post Office and HD and Co. As of August 29, you must be between the following age groups. Little Miss 8-10 yrs.   and    Queen/Princess 14-18 years For those that are eligible to run for 2015 royalty, you will receive addition information by mid- July. Note change of date for "Meet the Candidates" is Monday July 27th. Donnelly Threshing Bee will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year.  The Royalty Committee will be hosting a Past Royalty Reunion to be held on that Saturday (29th) of the Bee. Raymond and Linda Ellingworth of New York Mills along with Dean and Leila Hormann of Starbuck are happy to announce the engagement of their children, Rebecca and Dexter. His grandfather is former Donnelly area resident John Delong
Sarah Jackson was crowned Miss Minnewaska princess on July 3rd her parents are Darwin Jackson of Starbuck and Deb and Kyle Smith of the Donnelly area
The Donnelly fire dept. won third place at the water fight in Graceville on July 5th and second in Morris on July 8th

Good shepherd news:  summer book club One Way Love starts July 12th after services, and continues for 6 weeks
Past week July 3rd Paul and Lori Dornquist, Helen Peterson, Wally Mccollar and I had supper together at the Lake Geneva Christian center in Alex. On the 4th of July I started the day at Kongsvinger, traveled to Hancock for their parade and then to starbuck for their parade, queen coronation, and fireworks, July 5th Durke visitation at funeral home ,services at WWV w/Pr mike Hanson officiating. July 7th visited Verle and Della Dunn in Donnelly, July 8th helped out at naps; attended BBB at Old # 1 and the Morris fire dept. water fights.

Welcome to another addition of the Donnelly news Happy 4th of July everyone, most Donnelly business will be closed until July 6th
Weather news: in my travels the crops all look very good so far thanks to some timely rains and sunny mild weather
St John’s/Kongsvinger news: there will be joint services at 9 a.m. at Kongsvinger every Sunday and at 7 p.m. every Wed. eve at St John’s; until further notice.  
The annual Fourth of July fellowship gathering will be held at the Kongsvinger Parish Hall today, (Saturday) starting with a flag raising ceremony at 11:30 a.m.  Come, reflect on the day, and enjoy a potluck dinner together (ice cream, bread, and beverages furnished).  Everyone is welcome

We had a good turnout for our ice cream social/block party on June 27th  it afforded me with an opportunity to visit with my former farm neighbors Rueben and Bernadine Kruize from WY. They were in MN for a family reunion.

Our annual ice cream social will be held as part of the block party today (Saturday) on the west side of St John’s church. Supper (free will offering) will start about 4 p.m. menu includes hamburgers, beans, chips, and of course ice cream and the Rendsville 4-h will be selling their famous pies. Other activities include the firemen water fights, beanbag tournament etc.   For more info call 246-3211. I will have more info about other com club events in the future
There will be a Sperr Family Reunion on June 28th at West Pomme Lodge, Donnelly, please bring a dish to share. It starts with coffee and donuts at 10:00 A.M. more info Lois Leavitt 763-221-6121.

Catlin Krenz of Bismarck ND and Craig Nelson of Grand forks N.D., were married on June 13th
The threshing bee royalty were among the units in the Runestone Days parade in Kensington on June 21st
Brady Jergenson threw a no hitter in Legion bb against Osakis on June 22nd
June 20th I attended the 85 birthday party for Ardis Gullickson at the sunrise apartments and the 90th for Marvel Wagner at the West wing village

Other events I attended this week include the Kiwanis talent contest at East Side Park, the closing ceremony for VBS at GSLC and at St john’s Donnelly the all-state Lutheran choir concert in Alex (visiting a couple of former Donnelly area residents beforehand), the trinity Lutheran centennial celebration in Alberta, the baptism for Martian Olaf Hanson at Gslc, some of the events of Runestone days in Ktown
 There will be a Sperr Family Reunion on June 28th at West Pomme Lodge, Donnelly, please bring a dish to share. It starts with coffee and donuts at 10:00 A.M. more info Lois Leavitt 763-221-6121. We have held a family auction for close to 20 years.  Myra (Billie) Sperr came up with the idea, of a way for the family to raise money to keep the reunion going year to year.  The auction has been fun and very successful over the years.  Myra passed away, but the tradition is carried on.  Over the years donations have been made to cemetery upkeep, hospice etc.  by the Sperr Family with extra funds from the auction.  Typically 100-200 relatives gather each year.

St John’s/Kongsvinger news: there will be joint services at 9 am on June 14th at Kongsvinger (note change of location) and every Sun. thereafter and at 7 pm every Wed. eve at St John’s; until further notice. The vbs kids will be singing on the 17th and there will be supper on the 24th before services.

St John’s –Starbuck annual ice cream social June 28th 11-1:30 pm
The Mn All-State Lutheran choir will be on tour thought out Mn starting on June 20th in Alex with stops in elbow Lake Ortonville among other towns.
Community news The St. John’s /Kongsvinger parish and Donnelly community club have decided to combine two events into one. Our annual ice cream social will be held as part of the block party on June 27th

Death notices: Bob Uhden of Donnelly passed away on June 3rd, local survivors include his wife Rose, daughter Deb (Howard) Kill & their family of Donnelly.  I was among those who attended his memorial service on June 8th.  Our prayers go out to his son Dale who was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident near Kensington on June 4th; thankfully he was able to attend his dad’s funeral on Mon.
Former Donnelly area resident Rollie Mau of Bakus passed away on June 7th his funeral is today (Saturday) in Fergus Falls
Former Donnelly area resident Darlene (Lange) Drewes of Morris passed away on June 9th.

Celebrations: tiger track :girls ;st meet: Savannah Aanerud was a member of the 4 x 800 relay team that finished 9th  ;Islande Sperr was a member of the 4x100 relay team that finished 14th

Next edition June 6th-12th

Welcome to another addition of the Donnelly news. This issue is dedicated to the memory of my aunt Pearl I. Anderson who passed away on May 27 2010

Weather news:  most of the last week has been sunny and mild; with a few cool days sprinkled in

St John’s/Kongsvinger news: Every Sun. through the month of June (except for the 14th at St John’s) there will be joint services at Kongsvinger at 9 a.m. and on Wed. eve at 7 p.m. at St John’s .there will be supper served prior to the services on the 10th and 24th the schedule for the rest of the yr. has not been established yet

Vacation bible school will be held on June 15th- 17th from 5:00 until 7:30 p.m. each day. Open to four year olds through completing fourth grade. For more info or to pre-register call the Parish office at 246-3211. 

There will be an open house bridal shower for Emma Strachan, bride-to-be of Tom Kloos today (Saturday),  starting at 10:30 a.m. at  Kongsvinger .

Good shepherd news:  Vbs will be held on June 15-18th, from 1-4 p.m. at Good Shepherd, Held in cooperation with Zion –Morris and led by staff from Lutheran Island Bible camp. To register or for more info call Zion Lutheran 589-2744

Open house bridal shower in honor of Melissa Ascheman, bride to be of Brent Koehl, will be held June 13 from 10 a. m.-12 p.m.

There is a baby shower for Martin Olaf Hanson on June 22 at 6:30 p.m. at Good Shepherd.

Celebration brunch at faith-Morris June 14th after services in honor of the completion of the parking lot project

Trinity-Alberta centennial celebration June 20-21st

Community news On June 8th the bookmobile will be on Main Street at 3:30 p.m.., the community club and the fireman will meet at the community and fire hall at 7 p.m.

Death notice: former Donnelly area resident Millie Wendt of Glenwood passed away on May 30th.preced in death by her husband Dale Sr.

Celebrations: Tiger track: the girls finished runner-up at the section meet Savannah Aanerud and Islande Sperr are members of relay teams that are going to the state, Savannah finished 7th in the 800 m and 5th as part of the 4x400 relay team, the boys finished in a tie for 13th Levin Strand was part of a relay team that finished 5th

Kody and Carrie (Roske) Kramer were married on May 30th at West Pomme lodge.

Brian and Peg Kruize of Morris, along with Paul and Pam Daly of Donnelly, are happy to announce the engagement of their children, Breanna Kruize and Mitchell Daly. Grandparents are Harry and Corrine Kruize, Nancy and Glen Knopp, Nick and Karen Daly

There will not be any LL games in Donnelly this yr. but there will be ladies sb games on Thur. eve and horseshoe games Tue. Eve.
